The Turquoise Empire
Mille Voix- Capital City
Known as the city of the rich Established two thousand years ago in 4,930 AT, the city is a massive mixture of culture and architecture. Located in the middle of Draconis it is well known for being the place to stop before resuming your journey. Once a simple outpost for inns and merchants it eventually prospered from a village to a town than to a glowing city.
It is the smallest country in the world as stronger nations took the land over the years. However, they remain a very proud nation as they mainly fight by negotiating for whatever it is they need.
Royalty
Their kingdom is unlike many others at the time. They nominated their leaders by the richest merchants and landowners of the time. But as usual for the monarch, they rule until they abdicate or die. They did not want a hereditary leader as much as the first rulers tried to it make legal. However, over time it did not matter how people voted, it eventually became corrupted as many people wanted to host the seat of power by any means necessary. Assassinations became synonymous with the Turquoise Empire. It was a feared but wanted seat... Many have tried and failed to become leaders. But it was never safe once you become a Queen or King. The enslaved folk eventually had a saying "If the new King or Queen last a year we are blessed." But the power of being monarch had privileges of hosting the most glorious parties, living in the Palace of Voices, everyone will do as you command.
International Relations
Early in their new country, they had a rocky start as Red and Green tried to take over them. But in years they managed to hold them back as they quickly became allies with the Black Empire. They have always been close and as a piece, their relationship with gold is a shaky one. Having wars with them a few times over the years.
When slavery was acknowledged many other countries disagreed as Turquoise made strong allies with Black, Orange and Green.
For their slavery acts however they try to appeal to everyone. They want to be the crowning jewel of the world. But behind everyone's back, they spy on everyone. But sadly the secret came out and their reputation fell as other Empires no longer trusted them like they used to.
Slavery
Slavery was passed in 5,699 by King Richard III as the country was becoming broke. After all their continued opulence lifestyle was a high price to pay. In a moment of desperation for the wealthy, they connected with the Green, Black, Purple and the isolated country of Orange. Many innocent people and dragons were kidnapped to be bought and sold. It was known as the hundred-year cruelty. Taxes were sky-high for all travellers and many citizens had sold their own children or themselves on the market for ends meet or to leave the cursed nation. The Gold Empire claimed refuge for those who needed to escape. This caused the slavery war which Gold won. But the slavery pact of Turquoise remained as they are now allies with other slave nations. Gold could not risk a world war but took in many immigrants and stopped trade with the Turquoise for five hundred years.
City Districts
The Royal District
The royal palace of Mille Voix is a large district of its own. Built on the highest hill named peace hill the leader can look down at everyone and can see impending invasions. It was once a simple castle that was built to everyone's agreement in the town. But the newly nominated King Leon II desired to compare themselves to the opulence of the Palace of Gold. He and his backers spared no expense to create their own eyesore and so, the palace of voices was built. It was finally completed many years later during Queen Stephanie II's reign. Being the first Queen to rule from her new stead. Having thirteen floors, a thousand rooms for noble guests, fifteen thousand much smaller rooms for servants, fifteen kitchens, fifty large dining halls, the world's largest ballroom, and the council pavilion that can hold a thousand people and dragons.
Next to the palace, a dragon's den is built. Looking very similar to the opulent palace the dragons were spared no expense to live a royal life. Holding five hundred rooms and large that dragons of massive sizes can live inside.
Merchant District
The richest merchants live here. The main street is called Mansion Road with at-least three hundred mansions of different sizes. The majority of owners are wealthy merchants hence the title of the district. Many of the mansions have been owned by generations of families who have supplied the world with different varieties of fancy goods. From spices to dragons. The roads are a beautiful paved red as the mansions are white with many massive green gardens. Each is fenced as they are defended by family household guards or slaves.
Constant resides here.
The Wealthy Entertainment District (Street of fun)
The large area is direct across the merchant district and below the Royal district. The heart of the city is where the wealthy entertain themselves. Cafes, Theatres, restaurants, the Etienne puppet hall, library, gentlemen's club, ladies club, auction house, Wealthy travellers inns, guest houses, dragon racing tracks, dragon polo fields, high-class brothels, museums and art exhibitions. Entertainers such as musicians, and human and dragon statues line the street. However, they do not beg for money… They are to only perform as art.
The New Common District
The newest area where the average worker lives. After resuming trade with gold much of the people returned as slavery has gotten under control. King John II hoped to bring more visitors to improve their economy and relations and outlawed slavery. Simple workers who are not owned by anyone. Chefs, entertainers, smaller merchants those who wish to make it big. They are rows of small connected houses that are long and thin. However, it has a high turnover rate as it is one of the more dangerous areas. Crimes such as raw draconium dealings, theft and drugs are prominent.
The Common Entertainment District
The cheaper version of the wealthy district. For those who are poorer. The streets are not kept as well as the wealthy. Cracks on the pavement are prevalent so many accidents occur for those who have carriages. The street markets reside here. Gambling dens, dragon mating houses, The lower brothel houses were also built there.
The Old Common District
The smallest district in the city, where smaller merchants, bakers, teachers, blacksmiths, gear makers, and carpenters once lived. But due to slavery being legal many tried to immigrate to other countries In 5,700. Which left many of the basic houses empty. It is run down as many of the houses have become overgrown with plants and grass. It almost looks like an abandoned town, with the magnum opus the hospital created by Queen Marion The Kind. The cobblestones can be seen when the grass is cut but have become uneven due to time. Many of the wealthy children and criminals have been known to loiter around the area as it is not guarded unlike the wealthier parts of the city.
It is rumoured that the Mordecai base is hidden underneath. But was never founded.
The Slave District
Is the poorest and most populated of all. Located a half-hour ride outside the city, the slave district is deliberately separated from the rest of Mille Voix. To prevent slaves from escaping a large mote is built surrounding the district.
The buildings are tall and cramped together. Influenced by the tower designs of Inclementia. Factories of gear and fabric makers occupy half of their district as many slaves live there working day and night on command by their masters. As they are guarded day and night by slave keepers. Smoke billows from their factories as it creates a terrible eye sore for the city. Many of the wealthy propose to knock down those buildings and build them further away on the horizon. But many of the owners opposed the idea afraid they will not work hard enough knowing their masters are further away. So, the slave district stayed much to everyone's annoyance.
Lifestyle and the People
The wealthy live the richest lifestyle that anyone can for the time. But as spoilt and retched they seemed they are most open and sexual compared to other Empires. Sex and drugs run rampant in the city as they are known to be the city of love. Everyone criticizes them but they took it as strength. Orgies in the palace is not a rare occurrence as brothels of all kinds are spread across the city and country.
Food
The Turquoise Empire love food. Being the centre of the continent, they have many different cuisines. However, they only eat what is the phase of the time. Food and drinks tend to come in phases, which are usually started by the monarch.
Fashion
Opulence, is out there and expensive. Their fashion is everything in their culture. They use clothes to speak as well as their voices. Known for creating fashion shows for designers to showcase their wares.
Dragon Life
Dragons never had an official role in politics unlike everyone else in the world. The dragons who are owned by the royals lived in luxury in the dragons' den next to the palace. As a protocol for the time dragons wanted their own space. At first, the dragons were gold as were the humans. But in the hundreds of years of living and breeding there, the turquoise mutation takes place. The last of the gold dragons emigrated back to Loan in 5,266.
The turquoise dragons look similar to their black draconium counterparts. Four-legged as their bodies and heads are slim like snakes. However, their scale patterns vary from turquoise to various greens and blues. They are known to have beautiful melodic voices as they can mimic other roars and tones.
The average dragon pulled carriages and raced, polo with their rider. They did not own houses or anything under their names. They must have an owner present.
The Mordecai
The Mordecai is an organization that was estimated to be founded during the century of cruelty. The creator of it is unknown. But they managed to keep themselves a secret for a while. But found a business of information and assassination. A business the Empire found highly profitable. They are greatly feared among the realm but are highly useful. As world leaders and the wealthy use the Mordecai for their own gain.
