Harry's Birthday and School Supplies
(With Harry)
'Ugh! Today is my birthday.' Harry thought as he laid in bed.
Every year his dad tried to plan a huge party. HIs intentions were to get Harry more friends. He just wanted everyone to see how wonderful his son was. While Harry was touched by how much his dad loved him and how proud he was, it made him uncomfortable being at a huge party. He really hoped this year his dad finally listened and only invited the people Harry was close to.
Knock knock
"Good morning grandson." His grandfather said. "May I come in?"
"Of course." He quickly sat up.
His grandpa came in and sat down next to him on the bed. He looked at his grandson and smiled. He was growing into a fine young man and he was pleased.
"Happy birthday."
"Thanks grandpa. Did dad overdo it?" He asked, biting his lip.
"No. This year I think he has accepted that you want small." He said.
"Good." He smiled.
"Indeed it is." He smiled back.
"Thanks Grandpa."
"You're welcome. Now your father will be setting the party, a small one, up in the dining room. Would you like to help me out in the lab until then?" He asked.
"Yes!" He answered in excitement.
"Alright." He chuckled. "I'll see you down there."
"Okay."
His grandfather left the room and Harry quickly changed his clothes. He then went down to the potion lab and began helping his grandfather with his potions. The day passed by quickly. It was soon time to eat lunch.
"Aw man." Harry pouted.
"I know." He wanted to pout too.
"Can we return after lunch?" He asked.
"We can." He smiled.
"Yes!" He cheered.
"Come on." He said.
"Okay."
The two had lunch in the sun room before going back to the lab. Soon it was time for Harry's party. He showered and got dressed. He then made his way to the dining room. He was happy to see that there weren't many people there. Those that were, he was close to.
"Happy birthday!" They said.
"Thank you." He smiled at them.
"You're welcome." They said.
"Food first and then presents." Brandon said.
"Okay." Harry agreed.
"Wonderful. Let's all sit down." He said.
They did as told. Harry sat between his grandfather and his father. It was his favorite meal, Bangers and Mash. It was sausage on top of mashed potatoes and gravy. Peas were on the side. It was the only time he ate peas. He loved them drenched in gravy. He wouldn't eat them otherwise. He gladly dug in.
"Do I have to eat the peas? They make my stomach hurt." Ron asked.
"No. What vegetable would you like instead?" Brandon asked.
"Green beans?" They were the only vegetables he liked.
"Alright. Would you like them in your gravy or on a separate plate?" He asked.
"In the gravy please."
"Alright. Dixy!"
"I'm on it sir." The house elf said and quickly took the peas away and put green beans on the plate.
"Thank you." Ron said to them.
"You're welcome sir." The house elf said before popping out.
"I love your house elves." The redhead said. "I'm so glad you treat them the right way."
Most house elves would have been shocked by the thank you and squeaked. They probably would have screwed up and their masters would have punished them. The Reese's house elves were different thanks to how they are treated. It made them not so afraid of them and they didn't become shocked and panicky by someone being nice to them.
"Thank you." Allen said.
"You're welcome." He smiled.
"Anyone else need to switch?" Brandon asked.
"No. Sorry about that. I forgot that peas didn't agree with Ron." Godric said.
"It's alright. Next time I will ask him and not you." His uncle said.
"Well to be fair I wasn't supposed to be here." He said.
Ron wasn't invited since he had an appointment. It had been rescheduled at the last moment. The healer had a family emergency. The healer was the Chudley Cannons team's healer. He was also in charge of making sure all the students in the summer program were healthy enough to play with the team. Despite it being for next year Ron still needed to be checked out. He would have another check-up next year a week before the program started. Ron was excited.
"That's true. We will be prepared for next year." He said.
"True." He smiled.
"How was meeting the team?" Harry asked him.
"Amazing." He smiled.
"That's good."
"It is." He smiled. "They were great to just let me babble on and on." He said.
"Saints." Harry teased.
"Brat." He pouted.
"Thank you."
"Ugh!"
"Children." Allen warned despite his smile.
"Sorry grandpa."
"Sorry sir."
"Just finish eating." He said.
"Alright." The two said.
They soon finished eating. It was now time to open gifts. Brandon went first. He handed his son a small wrapped box. Harry took it and opened it. He gasped when he saw it.
"Your mum used to write in this journal a lot. I believe you are old enough to have it." He already made sure it was age appropriate.
"Thanks daddy."
"You're welcome." He kissed his forehead.
"Here you are." Allen said.
"Thanks grandpa."
"You're welcome."
Harry opened his gift and inside was a brass cauldron. Pewter cauldrons were used in school but as an apprentice he could use brass. He wanted one but didn't buy it since he wanted to save his money for better ingredients and books. He smiled at his grandpa.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Remember that you can't use this in class." He reminded him.
"I will."
"Good." He smiled.
"Here you are dear." His aunt Minerva handed him his gift.
Harry opened it and smiled. It was a transfiguration book. Transfiguration was a class that he liked. Not his favorite but it was close. This book was on the dangers of transfiguring food. He smiled at his aunt.
"Thank you auntie."
"You're welcome, sweetie."
"May I go next?" Lily asked.
"Yes." Harry said.
"Wonderful. It's from both James and I." She said.
"Thank you aunt Lily, uncle James." He said.
"You're welcome." The two said.
Harry unwrapped the gift and found a dark brown leather journal. His name was at the bottom. He loved it. He smiled at them.
"With you being a potion apprentice and we know that you are going to try to get a herbology apprenticeship once you finish the potion one we figured you needed a journal to write in." James explained.
"I love it." He said.
"Great."
"Me next." Godric said and handed him a medium sized box.
"Alright." He opened it and smiled. "I needed a new potion cleaning kit."
"Even if you didn't you would eventually. These things are amazing." He said.
He learned about the kits last year. Snape had learned that many of them had no idea that a work area needed to be sterilized and that using magic to do so could leave behind a small piece of itself and compromise a potion. He gave them all a kit and taught them how to do it. Many grades had improved after that.
Now the kit he had gotten his cousin was more advanced since Harry was brewing advanced potions. Plus this kit would work better with his brass cauldron than his pewter cauldron. Allen had helped him when he asked. Godric really loved having a grandpa around.
Ron handed Harry his gift. It was in a bag. Harry pulled it out and found that it was a jasmine plant. He smiled at Ron.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. I know you wanted to start one and we have a field near our house and figured you would like it to start your potion ingredient garden." He explained.
"It's perfect." He assured him.
"Great." That made him feel better.
After that the house elves took the trash away as well as put the gifts away. It was then time for cake. Harry blew out his candles. His wish was for this to happen next year. They ate the cake before the party ended. Lily took Ron home and Godric went with his dad. Harry went to bed.
(The Next Day)
Harry was watering his new plant when an owl came. He waited for a house elf to check the letter before opening it. He found that it was his school letter. It was about time. There was only a month left until school started. He figured they had finally found a DADA teacher. Now he could finally get his school supplies. His aunt would be over soon.
He put the watering can away and went to get ready. He changed clothes and grabbed his bag. It was weightless and bottomless. He then went to his dad. Luckily he was in his study. He knocked on the door.
"Come in." His dad said.
"Hi daddy."
"Hi Harry. How can I help you kiddo?" He asked.
"My school letter finally came." He said.
"About time." He mumbled. "Alright. Here is some money."
"Thanks daddy."
"You're welcome."
"I'm going to go wait in the living room for Aunt Minnie." He told him.
"Alright. Let me know when you leave."
"I will." He promised as he hugged him.
"Good."
Harry left the study and went to the living room. He grabbed one of the magazines that were on the coffee table. It was a magazine dedicated to Magical Creatures. His dad was given a free subscription for all he has done for magical creatures.
His aunt arrived an hour later. She was beyond irritated. Every year the school letter was coming out later and later. It was because they were having a hard time getting a DADA teacher. It also didn't help that a fraud was taking the position that year. That fool had the ministry fooled and they put him in since a teacher had yet to be found. Seeing her nephew brighten her mood considerably.
"Good morning sweetie." She hugged him.
"Morning Aunt Minnie." He hugged her back. "Lexy?"
"Yes master Harry?" She asked.
"Could you please inform my dad that I am leaving?" He asked.
"Yes sir."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." She popped out.
"Let's get going." His aunt said.
"Okay."
The two flooed to the Leaky Cauldron and soon began shopping. They first started at the robe shop to get a few new robes for Harry to grow into. There they ran into Lily and Godric. They too had gone shopping. Since it was so busy they waited in the front of the store and talked about the new DADA professor.
"He's a fake." Harry said. "I have read one of his books and it is so obvious he lied."
"I've met him." His cousin grimaced. "He's so… ugh!"
"Tried to mooch off your fame?" He asked.
"Yes. He wrapped his arm around me and had people take our picture. It was creepy. Luckily dad told him off and the pictures were destroyed." He said.
"Good. I just hope he screws up so he doesn't stay our professor for long." He said.
"Me too."
"Heir Reese, it is your turn." One of the tailors said.
"Okay."
Harry went back with the tailor. They did their magic and soon he had four new robes to grow into. Godric went back and soon returned with some robes of his own. They soon decided to shop together. The last stop was the bookstore. When they entered they spotted the Weasleys and to their disgust, Lockhart.
"Why?" Harry whined.
"I have no idea." Godric grumbled.
"Let's just get this over with." Minerva sighed.
"Okay." The boys pouted.
"Godric!" Ginny had spotted him first.
"Freeze." Molly said. "Do not jump on the poor boy."
"Fine." Now she was pouting.
"Thank you Mrs. Weasley."
"You're welcome dear." She wished her daughter would stop with all that nonsense.
"Hmph!" Ginny wasn't pleased at all.
"Hey Godric, Harry."
"Hey Ron." Godric grinned at him.
"Hello Ron." Harry nodded his head at him.
"I can't wait for this year." Ron said. "We can try out for Quidditch."
"Good luck." Harry said.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." He said.
"Bless my soul-" Lockhart stood up.
"If you touch or take a picture of my son I will sue you." Lily glared at him.
Lockhart didn't say a word. He just sat down in his chair. Many women glared at the redhead but she just glared back. Molly wisely kept out of it. She wasn't about to defend Lockheart despite her having a small crush on him. Lily had a point.
"Ah, Arthur Weasley." A voice drawled. "What a surprise seeing you and your family here. Shouldn't you be at a second hand store?"
"It's nice to see you." He lied.
"Really?" The blonde raised an eyebrow at that.
"Let's just keep things pleasant." He said, not wanting to cause a problem.
"Blood traitor. The only way to get up in the world is to hope someone is stupid enough to get your daughter pregnant." He whispered.
"Excuse me?" He glared at the blonde.
"You heard me."
Arthur saw red. He punched Malfoy right in the face. Soon the two were trading punches and kicks. Molly tried to put an end to it but it didn't work. Harry, who heard what Malfoy said, cast a spell on the blonde. Soon a giant hand began spanking him. That made him stop hitting Arthur as the store laughed. He quickly ended the spell. With a red face he stood up and glared at them all.
"Whoever did that will pay." He vowed and left.
No one noticed his son sneak away. The rest of them get their books and leave. Harry told his father and grandfather what happened. He did inform his aunt Minnie about the spell. They were all proud of Harry. They all decided that no one needed to know about it.
