And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and would have eaten of it.

But her husband saw it and said unto her, Woman, forbear: Knowest thou not that we are already like unto God, being made in his image and likeness? Why then doest thou this wickedness and rebel against the LORD?

The woman answered and said, The serpent beguiled me, and I would have eaten thereof if not for thy word.

When the man saw the serpent, he perceived its subtility and said, This is not a serpent, but an enemy. The LORD rebuke thee, Satan. Be thou gone, thou worker of iniquity.

Immediately the serpent departed from them, and Adam and his wife lifted up their eyes and beheld the tree of life in the midst of the Garden.

And Adam said unto his wife, Go to, and let us eat of the tree of life, for the LORD our God hath not commanded us aught concerning it. And they took of its fruit and ate, and the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they had everlasting life.

And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife presented themselves before the LORD.

And the LORD said unto Adam, Blessed art thou, Adam, for thou didst believe my word and kept the commandment which I commanded thee. Therefore the whole earth is thine forever, and thy wife's with thee.

Behold, I give all things into your possession, all cattle and every creeping thing, fowl of the air and fish of the sea. They are given into your hands, to rule and have dominion over them.

And the LORD God blessed Adam and his wife, and commanded them again that they be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it.

And it came to pass that Adam knew his wife, and she conceived and bare Cain, saying, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she bare again his brother Nezah*.

And Adam called his wife's name Eve, for she was the mother of all living.

And the LORD God blessed Adam and his house, and delivered the earth into their dominion daily.

*The name Nezah (נצח) means in Hebrew, "enduring" and "forever". This is because that, Adam and Eve having not sinned, he would live forever and not be slain by his brother Cain.
