Chapter 27
Asami and Korra radioed Lin to meet them at the hospital. There had been rumors of Great Uniter supporters in the city, but police haven't been able to confirm any disturbances. If they were there, they were keeping a low profile. "Are you sure they said there was a faction here in the city?" Lin asked Kuvira. "That's what I heard. They said they were going to contact them. I don't know exactly why, but I am guessing it might have something to do with the fact that I fought back when they attacked us. I told them that I wanted nothing to do with them and that I had no intention of seizing power again." Kuvira commented. Bataar was watching and he could help but worry. If there were supporters in the city that meant Kuvira was in danger especially now they know she betrayed them. "Where do we go from here?" Asami asked Lin. "I think the best thing to do right now is to keep Kuvira out of harms way. I will be a detail outside your penthouse and a police car will follow you everywhere you go until further notice." Lin replied. Kuvira didn't like the sound of that….How was she to practice her lava and platinum bending? "Will they be coming to the track at the Sato mansion?" Kuvira asked. Lin knew why she was asking. "We will arrange our schedules and make time for you to practice. You need to train and either Korra or I will be with you when you do that." Lin replied. "Thanks Lin." Kuvira smiled. "Anything for my niece." Lin patted Kuvira on the back. "Please stop getting yourself hurt. This is getting ridiculas." "I will see what I can do." Kuvira jested.
"This is troubling. They knew where you were. I wonder if they might have someone tracking you because I know you said that we were the only ones who knew where you were going for your honeymoon." Korra thought outloud. "That crossed my mind." Bataar replied. "It wouldn't be too difficult to track Kuvira especially being that everyone knows what she looks like and whenever she is in the city, she is usually with Korra or Asami not exactly low profile company. Then again, we were in the middle of nowhere. They must be desparate for them to approach us like that. They know Kuvira's reputation. Her metal bending rival only yours and mother's Aunt Lin." Bataar commented. "Bataar quit being polite, I think your wife has gotten even your grandmother beat. Your grandmother couldn't even bend platinum or lava." Lin interject watching Kuvira blush. "Stop being so modest kid. You have accomplished something that no else has ever though possible." Lin complemented.
"Oh that reminds me, they saw Kuvira lava and platinum bend." Bataar informed. Korra, Asami and Lin looked at him in shock. "That's not good." Korra replied. "So, I guess the secret is out then." Asami stated. "Not necessarily. I don't think we should jump the gun on this. Until there are reports, we have nothing to worry about. This still needs to be kept underwraps." Lin insisted. "Bataar, you'd better call your mother. I was with her when Asami radioed me. She is worried sick and it wasn't easy insisting that she stay at the hotel."
"I'll take Kuvira home and then I'll go see her." Bataar insisted. "We can take Kuvira home. Why don't you just go straight to the hotel? We want to hear about your honeymoon. It's been two weeks and we have a lot of catching up to do. What do you think Kuvira?" Korra offered. "Sounds good to me. Bataar you've got to drop that stuff off for your family anyway." Kuvira insisted. "Alright, what ever you want sweetheart. I'll see you later and girls, please make sure my wife doesn't do anything she isn't supposed to do." Bataar winked. He knew his wife. She was always so independent even when she was injured like this.
Bataar and Lin took his jeep to the hotel where he found Suyin as nervous as ever. "Why didn't you call me? How is Kuvira?" Suyin asked. "I thought it better to pay you a visit. Kuvira will be fine. She was shot in the leg, but you know how strong she is. She took out a half dozen benders after she was shot." Bataar boasted. "That is a relief. Then again, I am not surprised she could take them out. She is a prodigy, but then again she is my daughter." Suyin beamed. "You have no idea how good she has gotten. She is better than us now. I was sparring with her a few weeks ago, and I ended up on my ass. She's learned a few new tricks." Lin smirked. "She is amazing." Bataar agreed.
"Oh Mother, Aunt Lin, before I forget… we picked this us for you." Bataar stated handing Lin and Suyin each a wrappd box.
"Bataar they are beautiful." Lin commented. She was the first to open her box to find a matching pair of earings, bracelet and necklace. "The craftsmanship is just amazing and where in the world did they ever get crystals this pure and how in the world did they get these intricate designs in the platinum." Lin asked before seeing the look on Bataar's face. She knew where it came from and who made it. She had no idea Kuvira was that creative, but then again that kid was full of surprises. "Please thank Kuvira for me. She has very good taste. I think that kid knows me too well." Lin smiled. "She knows you like to keep things simple. The two of you have a lot in common." Bataar replied.
Suyin opened her box to find an elaborately designed set of earings, bracelet and a very unique necklace that had some resemblance to the jewelry designs in Zaofu. The different shades of green crystals brought out the shine of the high-quality platinum. The necklace had a lot of very detailed floral work. Suyin was shocked. She had never seen a piece like it. The jeweler must be very skilled. She became lost in the patterns and the sheer beauty of the piece. "Bataar this is absolutely beautiful. Where ever did you find this?"
Bataar was waiting for this question. "You know Kuvira….she has a knack for eyeing things."
"Kuvira picked this out?" Suyin asked. She was surprised that Kuvira would want to have anything to do with getting her anything. She still refused to look at her, let alone actively pick out a gift for her. "Yes, Kuvira picked it out. She has good taste, though you would never know because she doesn't really wear jewelry." Bataar smiled.
"The only time I have ever seen such fine work is in metal jewelry that has been bended, but you can't bend platinum. You'll have to give me the name of the jeweler." Suyin insisted. "Mother I am sorry to disappoint you, but the jeweler is anonymous." Bataar insisted.
"That's too bad. Anyone who can make jewelry like this should be famous. I'm serious Bataar this is stunning. I know this probably won't mean much coming from me, but please thank Kuvira." Suyin sighed. Bataar wrapped his arms around his mother as he saw her eyes tear. "I will mother." Bataar comforted. "I hope the two of you will be able to work everything out one of these days. You aren't the only one who is in pain, but Kuvira tends to keep things bottled up, but I know it is hurting her as much as it is hurting you. I can tell by the look in her eyes everytime someone mentions your name."
"I am not going to get my hopes up. As Lin mentioned before, Kuvira is more like me than I imagined, including my ability to hold grudges." Suyin relented. "Mother, I had better get going. Korra and Asami brought her home, but you know how well she listens to anyone. The healer told her to take it easy for the next few weeks while her wound heals. I am afraid she is going to take it as an optional order." Bataar confessed.
