Chapter 13: Memory Act 1
But the moment wasn't to last at all. As the cats and heroes gathered back around Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella came out again and slowly started towards them. As the cats sensed their presence, most of them started getting territorial again. Coricopat and Tantomile hissed at her before leaving. Rum Tum Tugger flexed his mane at her before walking off. Jemima tried to touch her, but Skimble blocked her. Pouncival pretended to get friendly with Grizabella before shoving her. Demeter tried to reaccept her, but she couldn't find the strength. Bombalurina brought her away. Munkustrap stood before Grizabella, but Old Deuteronomy gestured him to go. Munkustrap took one last hard stare at Grizabella before walking away.
[Grizabella Reprise]
Jellylorum: You see the border of her coat is torn and stained with sand
Victoria tried to touch Grizabella, but Jellyorum brought her away.
Jemima: And you see the corner of her eye twist like a crooked pin
Jennyanydots brought Jemima away from Grizabella, hissing at her before leaving. As she saw that she was alone on the stage, Grizabella tried her best to imitate the dance she saw at the Jellicle Ball. But she couldn't do it after 6 tries. She was too old and too pained by her past, seeing that it was pointless. "Is she okay?" Ginny asked. "She's broken hearted. She wanted nothing more than to be accepted again. She's been hurting badly ever since she left the tribe." Old Deuteronomy explained. The heroes looked at Grizabella, feeling their hearts break as she started to sing.
[Memory Act 1]
Grizabella: Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory?
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight, the withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan
Every street-lamp seems to beat
A fatalistic warning
Someone mutters and the street-lamp gutters
And soon it will be morning
Memory
All alone in the moonlight
I can smile at the old days
I was beautiful then
I remember a time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
The heroes felt like tearing up as she ended her short song. As she began to leave, Old Deuteronomy reached for her. She stopped and reached back, feeling him reaching for her. But she didn't turn around, pulls herself together and leaves. "Poor Grizabella." Carmelita said. "She still feels the memories of when she was happy with the other cats." Neville said. "And they still cast her aside when she wants to make amends." Dean said. "I don't blame them. Before I became a thief, I was cast aside from everything." Sly said. Everyone understood that. "But I doubt any of us could feel the pain Grizabella feels." Ron said. Everyone nodded in agreement. "Actually…I do." Harry said.
