After brainstorming hundreds of ideas on how to make our night special I decided my apartment was not the place. Between pictures of Sofia, the piles of washing on the couch and the mess that had accumulated in my kitchen there was no way my apartment was the place to me.

I did some google searching for some lovely hotels that could take two guests at such last minute and stumbled across a hotel called the Rendevouz Hotel. It was 5 star, open spaced and overlooked the city. There was a large bedroom with a beautiful open living room and a bathroom made for a king. Just booking the room made me nervous.

I packed a handful of different lingerie's into my duffel back followed by a few sex toys that were bound to come in handy. I realized I didn't have normal clothes so I stuffed a few of them on top to be safe. I headed down to the hotel so I could set up the room.

I lay flower petals all over the bed like an absolute cliché, put a mix CD into the stereo system and prepared the spa bath with flower petals and a bubble bath mixture. I prepared a range of cheese and crackers on the table with a bottle of Arizona's favourite wine. I even loaded a lesbian porn video to get us in the mood if things were feeling a bit stiff. I had planned for everything. Tonight was going to be perfect.

I texted Arizona the address of the hotel and the room number so she could let herself in before heading to the hospital to do some paperwork that was due in the morning. I had almost finished and ready to take off when Karev ran into the room in a huff and a puff. "Meredith is in the ER" he called before running right back out again.

It took me .1 seconds to register what was going on. I stood to my feet and ran the hallways all the way to the ER. By time I got there they were already wheeling her towards an OR. "What the heck happened?" I asked frantically.

"We aren't entirely sure but she looks like she has been beaten. She is bleeding all through her abdomen and she has a serious gash on her face not to mention the potentially broken bones throughout her right arm. We need you Torres" Hunt said.

"Let me scrub" I said without a second thought. Throughout the surgery we encountered problems. Meredith's lung collapsed, her breathing tubes needed repairing and no matter how many bleeders we stopped more seemed to pop up. "De Luca, call Arizona and tell her I won't be table to make it. Tell her I was called in on a surgery. Don't tell her who's! Tell her I'm sorry."

De Luca grumbled under his breath as he stood away from the OR table as a first man assist to participate in grunt work for an attending.

We were in surgery for 9 hours trying to repair all the damage Meredith's body had encountered despite all the trauma her body faced not once did we lose her. The nurses transported her back to a room after surgery while Hunt, Karev and I scrubbed out in unison.

"Her arm will be fine. Her hand was undamaged so given some physiotherapy she will regain full momentum." I explained to the others.

Karev seemed less confident as did Hunt. They looked at one another before Hunt finally spoke up. "She is in for a rough night. She may get a clot or more bleeds may come. If she makes it through the night she will be fine. I'll get a resident and an intern to sit on her all night."

"Does anybody know what happened?" I asked finally.

Karev shook his head. "She was brought in by an ambulance. She was found outside the Seattle Tavern. They suspected a mugging gone wrong. I just don't know why she was there."

After doing the required paperwork, giving two interns and a resident the important job of looking after Dr Grey I headed to her room to check on her. She was sleeping which was to be expected. She looked badly beaten. Bruising all over her face, stitches holding together a nasty cut. I could just imagine Mark being here and telling me how I butchered a basic stitch. Meredith's arm was held in place with a cast and her stomach had been wrapped tightly in attempt to avoid further bleeding. She was pretty badly beat up.

By time I finally left the hospital it was 7am and I was exhausted. I went to the hotel to check and see if Arizona was there but the bed was unslept in. It almost looked like nobody had even been here. I drove by her house on the way to my apartment but her car wasn't there either. I finally pulled up outside my apartment noticing Arizona's car parked only a few cars ahead of me. I locked my car and headed down to her car to see if she was in there. The blonde was fast asleep in the driver's seat dribble falling from her mouth. She was adorable.

I knocked on the door lightly which startled Arizona. She swiped at the dribble hanging from her mouth and she reached for the button that wound down the window.

"I'm so sorry" I said sincerely.

"I understand. I heard it was a tough surgery."

"Do you want to go inside?" I asked her.

Arizona nodded, wound up her window, grabbed her bag and got out of the car. "Are you okay?" Arizona asked me noting my silence.

"Can we just go inside first?"

I didn't tell Arizona about Meredith until we were settled into bed. I wanted her to bed ready to hear it and I wanted to be ready to tell it. She almost immediately tried to get out of bed but I reminded her that she was sleeping and she wouldn't wake for at least another 13 hours. Arizona and I lay there our bodies moulded together perfectly as we both took in everything that had happened that night. One of our best friends was fighting for her life and there was nothing we could do about it.
