Nick POV
Happy 3rd anniversary to this story slow to update but it will get finished. The main part of the story going to happen soon. A quick and shortest update for each chapter not going to be too long. A sample chapter that's fun.
Well, we told our friends the fantastic news. We stayed at the Tiki Hut for what seemed like hours. I wanted to tell our friends about Shutterbug's pregnancy with that camel joke and knew Shutterbug would enjoy for she loves that corny joke. She laughs every time I tell it to her even those I have said it to her a hundred times. I rock the dad jokes and I feel no shame. I learned that from my father and it's a wonderful thing. We said goodbye to our friends after hanging out. Shutterbug and I hold paws as we walk. We got a few things to do before heading home. One of the things is visiting our friend Flash hundred yard Dash. We're going to tell him the news and knew it was best to tell him when he was alone. He can grasp the news on his own time. This timing can be annoying at times but we know it's part of him. He lives in the Rainforest district and works at the DMV. A place that everyone hates to go for it's so slow. I find it annoying when I have done it and so does Shutterbug. With Flash or Priscilla since we have a friendly relationship.
"He's lying to you,"
Hearing a judgmental voice stops us in our tracks. We have gotten looks and whispers because we're foxes. But this is different and not in a good way. It never is in these moments. Always full of judgment. Looking to see that a random rabbit had said that. He looks to be middle age and by his scent, he's from the Marshlands. We have visited a few times it's a nice district. Of course, there's no surprise it's typical remarks from them. There are others about looking at what's happening. There's an older gentlemammal a fossa watching as well. He looks displeased with what's happening. In his right paw is a walking cane. I wonder what I would be like in old age. I hate to imagine losing my good charismatic face. I wonder if I will walk with a cane. In my family, we still have good health even in our elderly years. Shutterbug family is the same for our grandmother still rocking. Keeping up with our electric kits. Like lemurs, they come from Madagascar. He stands looking closely at us I guess this is some excitement in his old boring life. There are a few lemurs and a jaguar watching as well. They should mind their own business but we're all guilty of looking when someone or some mammals are making a scene in public. We all live for drama or just like to see it unfold. Seeing strangers fight is fun even more so when over nonsense. Makes life more exciting and we're glad that we just get to watch.
"What are you talking about?" Katheryn asked
"He's gay can't you see that? Why else would he wear a flower crown."
Oh, it's about my Marigold and this isn't the first time I have gotten such remarks. I have gotten so many since I got my beautiful flower crown. I don't let them get to me for they don't bother me. I love flowers because they're beautiful and Marigold is still my favorite. Still not much of a gardener but I have gotten better Shutterbug says I have a yellowish-green thumb now. It's closer to a green thumb. I won't get a green thumb but I have blossomed from a brown thumb so that makes some so happy. Wearing my Marigold crown has become natural to me I have tuned out voices like that.
"What a small sad world you live in," Katheryn said, "Flowers are for everyone and some bucks are florists and they have wives."
Shutterbug has her smile and she pulls my paw. That means we're leaving and I agree it's a waste of time talking to him. We do walk away leaving him in his sad small world. He would be staring us down with such hate in his eyes. Today is full of happiness no one going to ruin it. We walk for a few minutes and find ourselves alone again.
"That was great Shutterbug," I say
"It feels great like always does," Katheryn said
What Shutterbug said is true standing up always feels great. Especially when it comes to bigots like that gentlemammal. We still hold paws and I kiss Shutterbug on the cheek. Shutterbug kisses me right back. I feel a drop of water on my paw and I see that's going to rain again. The rain is randomized which makes it more fun. We let go of each other paw and I turn over to Shutterbug holding out my paw.
"May I have this dance?" I ask
"You may sir Artem," Katheryn said
Shutterbug takes my paw and I pull her in with a smile on my face. Shutterbug and I begin to dance in the rain. We love doing this and don't care about what others think of us. It's our life and we're making the best of it. Everyone should try it dancing in the rain is fun. Shutterbug and I dance with our hearts and without care of how others see us. We dance as it seems forever. Shutterbug kisses and I kiss her back.
"We still got it," Katheryn said
"Still worth for Dancing with Topliner or So You Think You Can Prance," I say
In another lifetime we would be dancers and great ones. Making our rise in So You Think You Can Prance. It would have been had since we're foxes but our heart and talent pull us through. That would have been a wonderful life as well. We would still adopt and have a wonderful family. We walk around some more.
The DMV Department of Mammal Vehicles is in Savanna Central. A place that everyone dreads going to. It shouldn't take at least seven hours to do what you wanted. Even if it's to update your driver's license. It's best to do it when you have nothing to do and bring something fun. Luckily we don't have to worry about that. Flash is on a break so we're right on time. So we head over to him. Getting looks from mammals we head to his desk.
"We're visiting Flash on break and we have no business here," I say "Hey Hundred Yard it's nice to see you."
"Hello Flash as Nick said," Katheryn said
"He..llo….Nick and Katheryn….it's…..nice…to….see…..you," Flash said. "What….brings…you….here…..today?"
"We have some wonderful news to tell you," Katheryn said
"Alright…..we'll…take..it…to…the….break…room." Flash said
Great that's a good way to tell the news. Shutterbug and I start heading to the breakroom. Flash tags behind. Slow walkers the majority hate I don't mind either does Shutterbug, for she can be a slow walker. It must take half their break to get to the room. We wait at the door and it takes Flash a few minutes. We head inside and it's like any break room. The only thing that stands out is the slow TV. I tried watching Sloth viewing of a movie but it couldn't last it was so boring. We take a seat at a table.
"Break….almost…..over…..what…news….do…you…have?" Flash said
"What do you can a three-humped camel?" Nick and I say
"What…do…..you…..can….a…..three…three….humped…..?" Flash asked
"Pregnant," Katheryn and I say
"...Congrat…ul….ations." Flash
Flash slowly gets what we're saying and his reactions are always fun. We all race at our pace. There's no shame in taking it slow and steady. Even when others get annoyed by your pace keep on going. After all the sloth beat the hare in the story The Sloth and The Hare story. We shake paws with each other. Flash will be going back to work and have more friends to see. We walk out of the break room waving goodbye to Flash. As he slowly heads back to his desk. The line is bigger now we're lucky that we're not here today. We find ourselves outside again.
There's another mammal that Shutterbug going to tell and that's Catherynne. One of the rabbits that are friendly with us. Gideon Gray and Aspen will be told once we make a trip to Bunnyburrow. We plan to make that trip soon. Our kits love going to Bunnyburrow there are big fields to play in. They also enjoy seeing the crops thinking it's cool to see how food is grown. Corn mazes our kits have a lot of fun with them. They are fun and corn on the cob is good. Best with butter a bit of salt and pepper a good summer food. There are not many crops seen during the winter time but they do grow some vegetables during the winter. Like spinach or kale which can be grown in the winter. We have our herb garden and tomato garden. Shutterbug now enjoys fresh tomatoes for she didn't always like them. I did for tomato sandwiches are delicious even more so with bug bacon.
"Let's head to precinct one," I say
Now we're making our way to our cop friends. Cecelia and Bridget are cops that have helped us out and we became friends. Other cops are friendly and we like them. Like Benjamin Clawhauser who's a friendly cheetah who loves Gazelle. He was thrilled that Shutterbug knows Gazelle mammally so she got him a backstage pass to meet her. That was a grand day for him. Benjamin is ZPD dispatcher not the best at his job but he has the heart. We also learned that Chief Bogo is a huge fan of Gazelle. That took me by surprise moments like you shouldn't judge for mammals will surprise you. Chief Bogo and Meria are not friends, but we have a friendly acquaintance relationship. They have helped us out a lot. Especially what happened with Mr. Stone he's still in prison and good riddance he deserves that fate. They'll be pleased with the news. We're going to enjoy some coffee or tea with baked goods. Coffee and donuts can't go wrong at a police station. Shutterbug will be having tea she doesn't care for coffee. She tried it once and found it alright. I do enjoy coffee and it from time to time. Walking over to precinct one won't take too long.
Precinct One is the ZPD headquarters and is in the heart of the city. The headquarters is in division one so close to the center of Zootopia. So that's why ZPD headquarters is located here. It's a large building and many press conferences have been held here. There have been fundraisers as well. As we head over to precinct one we see that Duke Weaselton is being let out of the building. He's a small-time criminal mostly trying to con mammals with pirated DVDs. He got to change careers in a few years as DVDs become a thing of the past like VHS. Even Bluray will be replaced.
"Hello Duke Weselton," I say
"It's Duke Weaselton fox," Duke said
In another life, I would know Duke Weaselton for I would be a low-time criminal like him. In this life, I have passed by him not buying into his DVD con. Anyway, we always have the DVDs he tries to sell. Duke doesn't like when mammals mess up his name. I suppose I can give him that it would be annoying but also funny. Duke gives me a glare and I know a part of it is jealous. Duke knows I have a successful business even when I'm a fox. Weasels aren't seen in much positive light. Like they're seen as sneaky and sleazy. As a fellow mammal who's put in a bad light simply because I'm a fox, I do feel bad. He could have dreams that he could never make true. Duke walks over more than likely getting ready for his next scam. Shutterbug and I enter the building like almost always Clawchauser is enjoying some donuts.
"Hello, Nick and Katheryn you're right on time," Benjamin said
"It's what we do," Katheryn said
Yep, Shutterbug hates being late. We wave over to him and he waves over to us. Of course, we told them that we were coming and we don't want to bother them at work. After all, they have important jobs. Looking at the area where press conferences are held. I remember the one held after what happened with Mr. Stone. That's a thought for another day today is a good day it's a great day. Benjamin waves to a fellow officer Chief Bogo told he could spare a few minutes. That's all we're going to need. Looking up to see that Mayor Lionheart is here I wonder what's that about. He looks proud of himself he has that face a lot and I roll my eyes.
"Chief Bogo won't be happy right now but we can make him happy," I say
"You read my mind," Katheryn said
Chief Bogo has clearly shown that he does not like Lionheart. We don't either and he's well-loved by Zootopians. We can see through his friendliness there's selfishness trying to break through. But we can think and talk about him later. Chief Bogo will be in a mood but our news will make him happy. Benjamin follows us over to the break room where Cecelia, Bridget, and Meria are waiting.
"Hello Katheryn and Nick it's nice to see you," Cecelia said
"We feel the same," I say,
Of course, everything is set up in the break room. The coffee smells nice and it's a fresh batch. The baked goods smell good as well. Shutterbug heads over to make some rose tea just brought for her. She takes out her flower mug which she has with flower tea. I still find it interesting that flowers can make tea. I do like them make me feel good. I head to make myself a cup of coffee. Deciding to have a donut and some chocolate chip cookies. While Shutterbug has two cinnamon rolls and a red velvet cupcake. Benjamin sits having a plate of donuts. Meria and Cecelia have coffee like me. Cecelia has a jelly-filled donut and Meria has a frosted brownie. While Bridget has herbal tea and a chocolate cupcake. Shutterbug and I take a seat next to each other. Meria sits on the other side and the seat next to her is for Chief Bogo. Bridget sits on Shutterbug's right side and Cecelia on my other side. Benjamin sits across from Bridget.
"Flower tea never thought that was possible." Cecelia said, "It's true that you learn something new every day or feel like it."
"Yep, those who invent knew flowers were perfect tea, or at least most of them." Katheryn said, "flower bombs are my favorite."
Katheryn right and she's sure is happy about that happening. I take a sip of my coffee yep it's good. Better than I can make at him. I just make the basics I know there's a whole coffee world out there.
"Those are the teas that flowers blossom in water," Meria said
"Yes they are so much fun," Katheryn said
Shutterbug takes a sip of her tea and has a smile on her face. I smile she's so adorable when so happy. I take a bite of the donut the icing perfect isn't not running like its water. Icing like that is bad for it sticks to your fur.
"Oh yes, our kits enjoy those bath bombs," Cecelia said
"We second that," Meria said
"We're a third," I say
We all laugh at that and we found out that Cecelia is a wonderful mother to five kits. We found about Meria and Chief Bogo kits as well. Each of their kits is wonderful and their youngest kit gets along with yours. Cecelia kits also likes hanging out with ours. We hear the door open up and enter Chief Bogo. There's an annoyed look on his face.
"So Judy Hopps is joining precinct one," Bridget said
"Mayor Lionheart wants that and it's what he's getting," Chief Bogo said
Oh, of course, it was going to be about Ms. Hopps. After all, she's going to graduate from the police academy top of the class. I guess she's capable of being a cop. Chief Bogo doesn't believe in her it makes sense. He's a tough buffalo and he would see Judy as a small rabbit. He still has some bigotry in him. Idris makes himself a large cup of coffee. I know he's annoyed that mayor Lionheart didn't ask him how he felt. Mayor Lionheart did it for his self-image. He's going to show that in his speech when announces Judy Hopps joining the heart of the city. That's going to make him popular with small preys just as he wants.
"You should give her a chance she will surprise you," Katheryn said
"I will try Mrs. Forester," Chief Bogo said
Shutterbug is so kind believing in Judy and she does know how she feels to a point. She has been told that she can't do things due to Autism. That mostly came from the Icenhowler's they are thoughts for another day. Chief Bogo kisses Meria before he takes his seat.
"I think she's going to be capable," Cecelia said "She rose to the top of her class that's no small feat."
"That's true, and she did it just like you did Chief," Bridget said
Chief Bogo takes a long sip of his coffee. He comes from a long line of police officers so it's no surprise that rose to the top of his class. Their oldest son and oldest daughter became police officers. Another son became a firefighter.
"I have to see it for myself." Chief Bogo said
"She's going to die," Benjamin said
I almost choked on my cookie when Benjamin said that. Shutterbug almost spits out her tea in surprise. They're surprised too and we laugh hard. He doesn't mean she's going to get killed it's more that she going to crush under the weight of being a small prey doing police work.
"Darn Clawhauser I didn't know you had it in you I like it," Bridget said
"Being a cop can be tough," Benjamin said, "I saw it in my dad's eyes even when he tried to hide it."
"I believe she's capable for we all have we just got to reach for it," Meria said
I didn't know this fellow cheetah had it in him. We know about his dad and he was a well-loved cop. Died on the job and had many honors. As Shutterbug would say we all have darkness in our hearts. That's from Kingdom Hearts and I think Shutterbug has pure light. Yeah, we are all capable of things we just got to find ours and reach for them. That's what we all did and we're happy. Judy Hopps going to be happy with her life and I guess it will be fun to see what she's capable of. To see how she's going to be a police officer. It's easy to tell she's going to be loved by preys more so with preys around her size. So that's good for them. I just worry about her bigotry I know she's not going to view foxes in a good light. That is easy to tell and hopefully, it won't be too bad.
"Alright with that out of the way, what's your news, Nick and Katheryn?"
"Oh I'm so excited," Benjamin
"It's going to be wonderful," Bridget said
"That it is," Cecelia said
"Yes, I can see it in their eyes," Meria said
Yep it's almost time to tell our news and it's going to be formal. Those we know that they would love the camel joke. I can tell that Chief Bogo would smile he does like my jokes. He hides his reaction for he's professional and serious as he is. We know that Cecelia and Meria have figured out their mothers after all. Chief Bogo would know he would understand for he has felt as we do. Meria is a great lawyer after all. Benjamin has a huge smile on his face.
"We're pregnant we're going to have a kit boy or girl." Katheryn and I say
"Ohhhh Niccccck and Katheeeeeryn!" Benjamin said
"Congrats," Bridget said
"Congratulations Katheryn and Nick," Chief Bogo said "I had that look,"
"Yep I knew it and congrats," Cecelia said
"I had the same look and feeling congratulations," Meria said, "Ask us for any advice and we will give it to you."
Yep, we knew that Cecelia, Meria, and Idris would figure out the news. After all, they're parents and we will ask them if needed. We have family to help us and it will be nice to get some outsider advice. Benjamin lets out his happy squeak and he claps for us. Our other friends are so happy for us as well.
A short chapter for this story's anniversary of this story. I knew wanted a chapter out today so I just went for a simple one. Nick wouldn't be bothered by others' remarks for flowers are for everyone. They would dance in the rain not caring if others saw them. Flash will play a small role I like him and he is best in small roles. Will I add the shorts to this story I might as well I enjoy them? They don't fit perfectly movie-wise but I still love them. Obviously in this life, Nick would just see Duke from afar and know Mr. Big from stories he's going to play a part as well. Yeah, Judy joining the heart of the city is like what happens in the movie. In this case, Chief Bogo going to be different. Mostly the same just has a different side thanks to Nick and Katheryn. Obviously, Cecelia, Meria, and Chief Bogo would have figured it out a parent would know an excepting mother and father. The ohhh is the same tone as in the movie and short Do You Think You Can Prance? So until next time readers.
