A small heads up. Since I haven't gotten to this story in a little while, I don't fully remember the timeline and the days. So right now I am going to do a generally small time skip. Nothing happened in between. I'm just going to say that after the shopping center nothing changed. This is now a little closer to Halloween.
A few days had passed since the whole club met up at the shopping center. Things seemed to go completely normal for a while. Everybody just went about their business, for the most part. The only two people who acted differently were Sol and Kaoru. They seemed to come together and talk a lot more than usual, as well as walk together down the halls. In all honesty, Tamaki had been one of the first people to notice, for when he saw it happening his mind instantly went to the fact that Sol was probably gay. Of course that escalated into different questions: does Sol know Haruhi is a girl? If he thinks that she is a boy and he is gay then is that why they were together the other day? What if he does know and was just teasing him? Are Sol and Kaoru a thing? Does Hikaru know? The questions just kept piling up in his mind until he finally gave up, not thinking much about it.
He wasn't the only one to notice. As to be expected, Hikaru noticed as well. Similarly to Tamaki, different questions came into his head. Were those two just friends? Was Sol actually gay? Was Kaoru swinging in a different direction? He had asked Kaoru about the two of them once or twice, but all he got was that those two had just been getting to know each other more and had become good friends. That didn't really give him the answer he was looking for, but he tried not to think about it.
As for Haruhi, the conversation that her and Sol had when they got home from the water park was still in her mind, even after the events that occurred at the shopping mall.
-when they got home-
Haruhi and Sol watched as the black car containing Hikaru and Kaoru drove off. The two of them went inside, both changing their clothes and getting ready for bed. Sol was making himself a cup of tea when Haruhi came out of her room. She thought back to when Kaoru said something questionable at the pool, and when Kaoru and Sol had been sitting alone under the umbrella while it was raining.
"Hey Sol, can I ask you something?"
"Go ahead."
"What happened between you and Kaoru?"
Sol remained silent for a moment, stirring sugar into the hot tea. He sighed and looked over at her with yellow eyes. "Why are you asking?"
"At the pool...Kaoru pulled down your sleeve when your bandages were showing and didn't ask about them. And you two were sitting by yourselves when it started raining. Did you tell him?"
The two of them went into the living room, sitting on the ground at the table. Sol took a few sips of tea before he finally spoke. "When I went to the bathroom to change, I went into the men's so that the guys wouldn't get suspicious. While I was changing Kaoru walked in and he saw the bandages. That and...I think he saw my bra, which was likely why he looked away, even though I'm not exactly very big. He promised not to tell anybody." He took another few sips before talking again. "When we were sitting under that umbrella, I told him. The fight, me living with you. He told me that he wouldn't tell anyone."
Haruhi nodded in understanding. The conversation didn't really go anywhere from there.
-back to now-
The club was all together, sitting in the music room at a meeting. Kyoya was going over the plans that were going to be happening soon. It was going to be Halloween soon and the club had to think of what they would do. Of course, the opinions of the other hosts was being thrown out as well.
As each of the hosts suggested their own ideas to Kyoya, Haruhi and Sol remained off to the side of the group, merely listening as options were given to them. Every time that a new idea would be said, it would be written down on a large whiteboard that Tamaki had randomly pulled out from behind a curtain, which wasn't anything new. There were plenty of good options on the board already: trick r hosting, haunted club, a scary maze, and even a scavenging hunt of some sort. But there was one thing that had been written on the board that was off to the side. Whether it had been written during the meeting or some other time and left there was unknown, but it was still there: dance.
Haruhi hadn't noticed the word off to the side, but was focusing more on the actual ideas. Sol, on the other hand, had noticed and wondered if that had been one of their ideas. Throughout the meeting Sol had said nothing, so it came as a surprise when he suddenly spoke up. "How about a Halloween dance?" The other hosts looked at him with confusion, not quite understanding what he meant. He pointed his finger at the side of the board. "It says 'dance' over there. Maybe it could be a dance where you dress up in a costume rather than formal dressing?" He then remembered one of the suggestions that had been popular during the suggestions: the maze. "Since everyone seems to like the maze idea, what if we had a short maze or trail set up that led to one of the ballrooms that the guests go through?" He didn't think that anyone would agree with his idea. But each of the hosts began to say that it was a great idea and that they had never thought of it before. While each of them went on their own to talk about the maze and what costumes they would wear, Haruhi approached Sol.
"Where did that come from?" Sol merely shrugged, saying how he saw the dance idea off to the side and thought of it on the spot.
It wasn't long before an announcement was made about the coming event. It was official. On the day of Halloween the Host Club would hold a Halloween dance in one of the ballrooms. The guests would need to dress in a costume and would go through a small trail outside the ballroom where they would get frightened by the hosts until they arrived. Once they were all inside the ballroom, a scene would be set and the event would begin.
This began the questioning of the hosts by their regulars, even Sol.
Sasuki and the two other girls who normally visited with her were sitting at Sol's table. "Do you know what you're going to dress up as, Sol? I'm very curious." Sasuki had been thrilled when she found out about Sol's participation in the event.
"Are you going to be something really scary?"
"I think you should be something cool-looking!"
In all honesty, Sol hadn't really thought about what he wanted to dress up as. He had seen a couple of costumes he remembered from when he was a little kid, but obviously those were all kid costumes, so they would never fit him. "I don't know yet. I was thinking about getting a costume that matches Haruhi's somehow."
"What about Kaoru?"
One of the girls had asked the question, catching Sol's attention. He turned his head to look at her, confusion on his face.
"Lately you have been hanging out with him a lot, right? Would you try to match him as well?"
"No? Why would I try to match my costume with his? It's true that we have become close friends, but he and Hikaru are a pair. There is no reason for me to do that, " Sol was confused by the fact that the girls instantly assumed that he would try to match Kaoru.
From then on the subject of matching Kaoru was dropped. But the girls continued to ask questions about the dance. Eventually the three of them had to leave, but all the rest of his customers also asked similar questions, minus the Kaoru part.
Towards the end of the day, when the club was closing, some of the hosts came together to talk. Honey, Mori, Tamaki, and Kyoya were on one side of the room having their own discussions while Hikaru, Kaoru, Sol and Haruhi were on the other side.
"So did Kyoya tell you about one of the newer ideas they thought of to add to the dance?" Hikaru seemed to hold the current important information that the others wanted to hear, so they looked expectantly at him, giving him a look that suggested that they didn't know. "I think all of us are dressing as pairs. It's Kyoya and Tamaki, Mori and Honey, us, and you two. He said we should find some way to match our costumes for when we make our entrances into the ballroom." All of them exchanged glances.
For a while after that, and even when Sol and Haruhi got home, they started to discuss what their costumes were going to be.
This is a very short chapter and I did that on purpose. Not only is it short because of my lack of writing lately, but it is also short so that the next chapter will be much longer, as many "special event" chapters that I've previously had have been. I hope that you liked this very general intro to the Halloween event!
