Halloween was coming sooner than the club thought it would. They had a few days to get preparations done and plan how everything was going to go. The maze was being prepared in the school yard, costumes were being picked for both hosts and for guests, and the entire event as a whole was getting set up. Each of the hosts had their own separate jobs and things they needed to help with, so everyone was busy for those few days. As a matter of fact, the club wasn't open for that few days either, but all the guests knew that it was because of the dance being set up. No one wanted to wait any longer.
It didn't seem like they waited very long, anyway, for the day had come. Halloween. The clubroom was silent, the halls were empty, but different classrooms were having their Halloween events. It was after school hours and the sun was setting. Outside, in the schoolyard, there was a garden area where all of the Host Club guests were waiting. Some of them were dressed in elaborate, beautiful costumes. Some merely wore dresses and small crowns to imitate princesses. Others just had on their regular school uniform dresses. But all of them were watching the sun set in the far distance, waiting for when they would all get to walk into the maze. Off to one side of the garden there was a small entrance, but inside it was dark and enclosed by walls, possibly made of bushes or maybe even just heavy curtains. It was really unknown what the maze itself was made of, but it was spooky either way.
When the top of the sun disappeared over the distant mountains, two lights came to life at the entrance of the maze. All of the girls turned, none wanting to make the first move to enter. But at the end of the tunnel they could see that there was a turn, and coming out from behind the corner of that turn was a hand. It wasn't really scary, it was just a regular hand, but it motioned for the girls to come into the dark. In small groups, one at a time, the girls began to enter the maze. As they went through there were sudden noises that would spook them, as well as people jumping out from behind corners with masks over their faces. All of the girls would get scared and want to turn back, but they would remember that this was leading their way to the dance and they would continue moving forward.
When they would reach the end of the maze, they would find that the walls end at the bottom of a staircase. They could look to the top of the stairs to find that there was a set of tall, see-through doors with many windows on either side. It was clear that this was one of the school's ballrooms, but it was so dark inside that the girls almost wondered if this was even the right place. When the girls would doubt themselves, there would be a voice behind them whisper to go inside. Soon, girls were walking into the dark ballroom, unsure of what in the world was happening. Once all of the girls were inside, the room was very dimly lit by the light coming in from outside, making sure the girls didn't trip or get hurt. The set of double doors closed as the last little group of girls entered, causing many of the girls to shriek or become afraid. The ballroom remained silent, minus the quiet whispers from each of the girls. Until they all began to hear familiar voices.
"Please don't be afraid! We won't let you all get spooked!" The sound of Honey's voice came from one side of the ballroom and a sudden spotlight came on in the top floor of the room. When all the girls looked at what the light was pointing to, they found that leaning against one of the pillars was Mori. He was dressed in a red trenchcoat, boots, and a pirate hat. Sitting on his shoulder was Honey, who had an adorable parrot costume on. As the girls all saw the two dressed up and began to aww, Honey smiled and waved, his feathers connected to his costume shuffling. Then came more voices.
"It is alright. We won't hurt you." The voices of the twins, in unison, came from the opposite side of the ballroom. Another spotlight turned on and faced the other side where two figures stood, leaning against another pillar. At first the girls were afraid, for there were two skeletons standing there in front of them. But when the masks were removed, they revealed the faces of Hikaru and Kaoru, smiling devilishly at the girls. The fear that the girls had before faded away as they saw the twins. Then, again, another voice.
"Don't worry. It won't be dark for long." Haruhi's voice rang out from the opposite side of the room that the doors were on. When the spotlight came on and faced that side, the girls turned to find that Haruhi was standing at the top of the first set of stairs. She was wearing a simple shirt and pants, but also was covered in a red cloak, the hood pulled up over her head but leaving her face to be seen. At first the guests didn't understand what her costume was suppose to be, but then another figure came out from behind her. Once Haruhi had caught all of their attention, Sol stepped out from behind Haruhi. His hair was ruffled, he wore a dark blue, almost black, cloak, and his hands were covered with furred gloves. He also wore a pair of fluffy, pointed ears on his head and had a tail trailing behind him. It was then that the girls knew what they were suppose to be: Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf, or a werewolf. Even though Sol's red hair was a bit out of place for the costume, his yellow eyes worked so well that no other host would have made the costume look better. Finally, there was that one voice that all the girls knew and loved that rang out through the room.
"Welcome to the Host Club's Hallween Dance, my darlings." Another spotlight shined above Haruhi and Sol to the top platform of the dance that overlooked the main floor. There, overlooking all of the girls and other hosts, was Tamaki and Kyoya. Both of them wore costumes that resembled vampires, only Tamaki had extra pieces of fabric connected to his arms, allowing it to look as though he had wings when he lifted his arms. A regular vampire and one that was turning into a bat.
The spotlights all remained on the hosts, allowing the girls to all take in each of the hosts an what they wore. Finally, the main ballroom lights flicked on. The room looked as it had for a dance from last year, the one where Haruhi had kissed another girl. There was a buffet set up on either side of the room next to the pillars, covered in food and drinks for all of the guests. There were also Halloween decorations scattered about, such as occasional fake spiders or plastic skeletons hanging from the pillars, as well as little cauldrons full of wrapped candies that the girls were welcome to take from. Clapping from the guests filled the room as they took in the sight.
Soon, music began to play and the dances began. Each of the hosts would dance with one girl at the time, the other girls either waiting their turn or dancing with each other while waiting. Sometimes one or more of the hosts would take a short break, which was when the girls would get the chance to request a dance. At the moment, Sol was leaning against one of the pillars, waiting to start dancing until the floor was slightly less crowded. Behind one of the pillars nearby was a small group of girls, some of Sol's regulars. They each peeked around the corner, wanting to go up and ask him to dance with them, but they were all scared. They knew he probably already had a line of girls waiting to dance with him, but they wanted to so badly...
A figure walked passed them and went straight up to Sol. As he turned his head slightly, he saw Sasuki walking towards him. She was wearing a pretty light blue dress, thin-fabric gloves, short-heeled shoes, and a masquerade mask over her face. The mask, light blue like her dress and decorated with small jewels and feathers, covered the top part of her face, but it allowed her equally blue eyes to show through. As she approached, she gently removed the mask from her face and offered him a smile.
"Hey Sol. Would you mind if I stole the first dance?" At first Sol didn't really know what to say. He hadn't danced with any other girls yet and was still unsure just how good he was at this sort of dancing. But he also was glad that it would be Sasuki he danced with first, since she was one of his regular customers who he saw and talked to a lot.
"Of course." He offered her a hand, which she took, and guided her out to the floor. She put her mask back over her face and he quickly made sure that his cloak and tail wouldn't get in the way. As the two began to dance, some of the other girls watched in both awe and jealousy. The werewolf and the masqueraded lady looked like such a perfect pair, and their dance was in perfect sync with the music. Some of the girls wanted to take Sasuki's place while others only wanted to watch, fearing that them dancing with him would ruin it. Both Haruhi and Kaoru, while they danced with their partners, snuck glances in Sol's direction, smiling at how well he was doing.
When the song ended, Sol offered his dance partner a bow and she curtsied in return. They both exchanged smiles before Sasuki turned and walked away, heading towards one of the buffets. There was then a few other girls that walked up to him, asking for the next dances and starting a little line to wait for him. He felt slightly overwhelmed, but he tried not to show it.
Throughout a period of time all of the hosts had each danced with around ten girls, but that was only a part of how many girls there were. They still had most, if not all of, the night to dance with all of the girls. It would take a while, but the club was determined to make this the best dance the girls had been to.
At one point during it all, Sol had stopped to take a break on the sidelines. He leaned against one of the far walls, his cloak now off from the heat. But he still had his ears, tail, and gloves on, still giving him the appearance of a werewolf. He closed his eyes and sighed, letting his feet take more of a break than the rest of him. He heard footsteps approach and opened his eyes to find both Kaoru and Haruhi walking towards him. Tamaki, Kyoya, and Mori seemed to be having some kind of special dance in the center of the room, so most of the girls were too distracted to notice.
"How are you holding up? Are you enjoying everything?" Kaoru approached with a smile, leaning up against the wall next to him.
"We still got the rest of the night to dance, so it's okay to take more breaks, you know." Haruhi stood in front of him, pulling back the red cloak's hood.
"Yeah, I know. But I'm fine. I'm just not used to dancing this much."
"I was kind of surprised that you knew these dances, but I guess you do come from a wealthy family, so it makes more sense, " Haruhi said, not really considering it. Perhaps Sol's past wasn't on Haruhi's mind, but why would it be? If it had been, maybe she would have put two and two together. Only Sol's brothers were considered a part of that family. They were the only ones who were worth teaching these dances to. The only way that Sol knew them at all was because of Yasutake, but even he had to do it in secret and couldn't teach him very often. It was a surprise to Sol that he even remembered any of the moves.
"Hey Sol, maybe we could-"
"Excuse me?"
Kaoru had been cut off by a familiar voice. When the three hosts looked over, there was a girl standing behind Kaoru. Kaoru and Haruhi didn't recognize her, but Sol knew her to be Sasuki. But why was she over here and not watching the others? Surely she wasn't here to ask Sol for another dance, that wouldn't be fair to the girls who hadn't danced with him yet.
"Could I possibly talk to Sol in private?" Kaoru and Haruhi exchanged glances before giving a respectful bow. Sol stood from where he leaned and walked over to her, which was when she started walking away towards the double doors all the girls came in from. The two of them quietly went outside through one of the doors and went to the small porch-like area, leaning on the railings that prevented anyone from falling. The two watched the plants and trees shift with the breeze, the moon starting to appear above them and letting light shine down on the gardens below. At first they stayed quiet, just watching the plants, but then she spoke.
"I...I wanted to talk to you about something that has been on my mind lately." She didn't really elaborate on that at first, so Sol just waited for her to continue. "I know that we have talked about our families meeting before, and how we should start to see each other more. But I...I just keep thinking about that day when the club was in that garden. You picking that rose for me...and when we had lunch together. All the times we have talked."
"Where are you going with this?"
She turned, removing her costume mask and facing him. Her blue eyes were bright and seemed slightly nervous, but also determined. Her hair was put up in a fancy style and her dress swayed, just like the leaves of the trees. "Sol...I think...I think I like you...as more than a host."
