Hermione and Ginny sneaked into the Great Hall early the following morning in order to be seated when their fellow peers piled in.
It was 10 minutes before Draco entered and sat at the Slytherin table with Blaise and Theo. Hermione nudged Ginny gently with her elbow and shook her head in their direction. Ginny flicked her eyes up and scowled back down at her plate. Hermione looked over and saw Blaise grinning over and saying something to the others. Hermione rubbed Ginny's hand
"We'll get them back" she whispered "they haven't seen the worst of us yet"
.
"Blaise, knock that sodding grin of your face"
"Why?" Blaise laughed "I'm happy, and it annoys Weaslette, therefore I will keep grinning"
"You realise Weasley is going to get you back for making the entirety of Slytherin house think you two are hooking up."
Blaise looked around and back to the girls, Hermione was patting Ginny's hand. He grinned again. "You mean they are going to get us back, mate"
"What?" Draco's eyebrows furrowed.
"Come on mate, they're in this together. Whatever revenge one of them has planned is performed by both of them"
Draco scoffed but glanced at the Gryffindor table anxiously, "that's not very brave of them"
Blaise grinned "It's smart, not cowardly. Anyway, isn't that what we're doing?"
Draco smirked "yeah... but we're Slytherin… we use any means to achieve our ends"
"Well, it has often been said that Granger was put in the wrong house"
Draco shook his head in denial but looked over at the brunette to find her glaring over at their table and whispering in harsh tones.
"Put her together with Weasley…" he pursed his lips "I think we are going to have to keep our eyes and ears open"
.
As the alarm clock in the common room dinged twelve Hermione arranged a cushion behind her head and swung her legs over the edge of the armchair as Ginny paced behind the sofa.
"We have to humiliate them" Ginny scowled, her hands tight fists
"Yeah, but what can we do. You know me Gin, I'm no good at thinking of ways to get back at someone." She breathed out a laugh "I'm not even any good at coming up with interesting truth or dares."
Ginny stopped pacing and placed her hands on the back of the settee. "Maybe that's it…"
Hermione frowned, throwing her head back against the cushion to stare up in question
Ginny smiled down, teeth glinting "who said that revenge had to be interesting?"
Hermione spun around to face her friend "we should go back to the basics?"
"And what's more humiliating than being put in your place in front of the whole school?" Ginny walked around the side of the fireplace armchair and slunk into its cushions. "Now for the preparation," she muttered biting the inside of her cheek
"Why do I get the feeling I'm not going to like your plan?" Hermione said apprehensively
Ginny tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, and took a breath, "here is what we're going to do…"
.
"Blaise, I honestly think you may have pushed her too far"
Blaise shook his head, moving towards the cold stones of the corridor to let some first year Hufflepuffs by "I know Theo, I just wanted to tease her, and my impulse took me there."
"Maybe next time listen to the little voice in the back of your mind, and avoid trying to get her into Slytherin territory"
Blaise shoved one hand his pocket as they approached the end of the corridor and opened the door with his other. A gaggle of third year girls blocked the opened door, causing Blaise and Theo to stand at the entrance, waiting for the group to pass. "You're right, next time I see the fireball I will apologise."
"It's the best thing for-,"
"Oi, you lot," a voice shouted from the grand staircase "last time I checked we only had one hour left of classes, you do not need to say goodbye to each other like you're never going to see each other again." The girls went silent as Ginny headed up the stairs, "get to class!"
With sullen faces the group hurried through the corridor past the boys. Blaise gestured for Theo to exit first until the doorway was blocked yet again.
Ginny froze, her mouth an o, before melting into a casual sneer. "I see now. I did think it was a bit much even for those second years."
Blaise and Theo both furrowed their brows and glanced at each other, then back at Ginny. "They weren't standing there for their own amusement," she sighed, exasperated at their ignorance. "Two tall 7th years with a stupidly stereotypical 'bad-boy' Slytherin vibe – they were trying to get your attention."
Neither men made any attempt to leave the doorway and Ginny stepped forward, "Unless you want me to think you are standing stock-still to get my attention I suggest you let me get to class."
Theo quickly stepped back against the door hinges, whilst Blaise slowly pulled the door open wider, "would it be such a ludicrous thought?"
Ginny scoffed, so Blaise persisted "look, about yesterday… I'm sorry for stealing your wand…" Theo kicked him in the ankle "and making you attention of the entire Slytherin common room."
Ginny breathed out through her nose, her stern expression softening "I accept your apology." She started to head further into the corridor, eyes burning a hole through her back before she shook her hands, turned around and clenched her fists as if pushing herself to say… "and it is definitely not a ludicrous thought that you might want to grab someone's attention. However, it is ridiculous that you might seek mine, especially if you mean to do that by making me angry."
Blaise lowered his head, but kept his eyes glued to hers, "noted."
Ginny nodded, then spun around and continued walking, just as quickly as she had stopped.
.
Hermione almost fell off her bed as Ginny marched through the dormitory door, "the plan is in motion."
"I thought you had class?"
Ginny gently closed the wooden door "I did, but Professor Trelawney looked into the crystal ball for her own fortune and saw that Firenze was in her classroom. She ended class early and headed straight for Professor McGonagall's office." She stopped and looked at her friend biting her lip in a grin
"I can't believe you roped me into this," Hermione groaned chucking a pillow
Ginny threw it right back, "don't go pretending you weren't fuming yesterday just as much as I was. Blimey, you even fell into his underwear drawer!" she grimaced.
Hermione sat up properly and leant against the bed frame, "Malfoy is never going to believe that I want to seduce him!"
"The plan isn't to make him think you are seducing him, it's to make him think that you're interested. A very important distinction," Ginny pointed a finger "if he coins on that you are trying to seduce him, our whole scheme is going to go down like blast-ended skrewt in Hagrid's Hut."
"Alright, alright. Did you ask Harry for the Marauder's map?"
Ginny pulled the parchment out of her pocket and revealed the hidden footsteps with a single tap. "Malfoy is just about to come out of Defence against the Dark Arts. Quick," Ginny pointed at a massive pile of books on Hermione's night-stand, "grab those and go."
.
"Theo, just because you were late to class does not mean you need to spend an extra hour writing notes," Draco leaned over his friend's desk, tapping his foot.
"Sorry mate," Theo finished off his last sentence in flawless calligraphy and put everything into his bag, whilst Draco made his way to the door.
Just as he was exiting he collided with a passing student and books flew everywhere. Looking up a hazel-eyed, girl with unruly hair met his gaze, "watch it Malfoy!" she chastised.
"Miss Granger, I do believe that you were the one hurtling through the corridor like a cursed broomstick." He bent down to help collect the fallen books.
"You will excuse me if I don't want to spend any more time in your presence than is necessary."
Theo watched in silence as Hermione seemed to shake her head slightly after speaking, before opening her mouth again. "If you would watch where you were going we wouldn't have collided in the first place."
"Don't pretend you don't live for these interactions, Granger."
Hermione flicked her tongue quickly over her bottom lip, before saying sarcastically "oh, I think we both secretly crave these interactions to liven up the mundanity of being nineteen-year-olds at school." The two continued to stare at each other, still crouching on the ground despite having collected all the books.
Theo adjusted his school bag, and the movement seemed to knock Hermione out of her trance. Standing up suddenly, she grabbed the remaining books out of Malfoy's hands and rushed off to the grand staircase.
Theo shook his head, "I do not get your interactions. She causes you to fall into lake-water, you turn her into a cat, yet still you speak more in your silences than you do with actual words." He turned to walk the same way as Hermione, before facing a still-crouching Draco "MATE, come on" Theo laughed. Draco slowly rose, his eyes still narrowed, and the two headed for the Slytherin Common Room.
.
"He buy it?"
"I don't know," Hermione sank into the hard wooden chair by the chess table "I chose the sarcastic route over blatant flirting."
Ginny tilted her head "that is probably good, more like you to try and hide your feelings."
"Hey!" Hermione picked up a pawn and threw it at her friend's arm.
"No offence meant, Mione! Personally I think I need to taunt Blaise one more time before the match, preferably just before it starts."
"As long as my part in this is done. I am all for getting back at them, but this plan is not exactly in my comfort zone." Ginny rose an eyebrow, "what?"
"Well, it just strikes me as interesting that this is outside your comfort zone, as you aren't really flirting."
"What's that supposed to mean, Gin?"
"You haven't exactly dated properly. You and Ron had been friends for more years than you were together so it was a natural development, and Krum was just as shy as you! Therefore it only stands to say that this is outside your comfort zone because it actually means something to you."
Hermione glared across the table "what a load of rubbish. I just find revenge more satisfying when it is something that you can see."
"Well don't worry. The look on their faces when they realise we played them into losing the match will definitely be something to see." Ginny leaned forward and placed the pawn back onto the table with a small smile, "fancy a game of chess?"
Updates will be a lot more regular from now on! I'd love to hear your reactions, who do you most like reading? Blaise and Ginny or Draco and Hermione?
