Silent spirits
She had spent the day with Enzo. The vampire had come to be pleasant company, even if he is friends with Damon. Though it can be seen as a bonus to be able to annoy the older Salvatore brother. She has also started to realize that she needs to make friends of her own and while Matt has been a good start, broadening her horizons can't be wrong.
Having returned to some peace with the drama and threat against the doppelgängers gone, they are all still doing their best to not always look over their shoulders expecting trouble. But it's not like they have forgotten that their family will never truly be left alone, that there will always be those that want something, most often revenge.
Returning to the mansion she is fast reminded of how everything can change in seconds because Caroline's car is standing on the road. There is no sight of anyone else but considering how the spirits can reach out to her friend at any time they could be alone and everything is still going wrong. That the one thing she can clearly hear is Kaiden's cries aren't making it better.
Leaving her own car, she approaches Caroline's and can see the blonde in the driver seat, her head leaning against the door, it looks like she is sleeping. Ignoring her friend for now she gets to Kaiden in the back. He doesn't appear harmed, which is a relief, but she is worried that Caroline hadn't woken from the screams.
After making sure that her nephew is fine, she moves to Caroline's side. Carefully she opens the door and supports Caroline so she can sit straight in the seat. "Hey, Care?" she shakes her slightly.
Nothing is pointing to Caroline having used her powers, which means that she should be able to wake her. But if this is like what Kol described happened in New Orleans, then she should probably not be close when Caroline does wake up. Maybe at least move her from the car so they aren't right next to Kaiden.
Taking the safe choice, she lifts Caroline from the car before trying to wake her again. If this doesn't work, she will have to call her brother for help. But he should have felt if she did something big with her powers so that he isn't already here isn't filling her with confidence that he can achieve something that she can't.
Maybe it's coincident, maybe her calling Caroline's name is doing a different, but whatever is causing it, her friend starts moving. "What…?" she blinks a few times. "Rebekah?" slightly confused Caroline is looking at her. "Am I awake?"
"Quite certain, yes." She answers. "Want me to pinch you?"
Caroline shakes her head and looks around. "What happened?" then she is quickly on her feet. "Kaiden." The mother is fast by her son's side. "Thank god." She is breading out when she can see that Kaiden is fine.
"Are you okay?" she asks her friend who nods but looks slightly unstable. "Was it the spirits?"
The first answer is a shrug and a sigh. "It didn't feel like it. There were these two women, one blonde and one with black hair, I've never seen them before." She then explains and is massaging her temples. "Maybe a third person, I'm not sure."
"So not like your previous visions?"
Scoffing Caroline answers. "No, not even close, I thought I was awake the whole time. This was very different from what I've felt before." She explains. "And I can't ask Cyrena about it."
"We could call Kol." she suggests.
"No reason to chase him home, we can ask when he shows up on his own." She gets an answer from her friend who sighs. "How about we just get back to the mansion for now."
Caroline takes a few steps before having to catch her balance. Immediately she's by her friend's side and supports her. "I drive." She makes clear and guides Caroline to the passenger seat. She can get her own car later.
She gets a nod from her friend who looks like she could fall asleep at any moment. This is definitely not normal and has her worried. Not that Caroline has had many visions, and she hasn't been around for any one of them, but she has never heard or seen her this tired after them.
The short way to the mansion is done quietly. At most, they interact when she gazes over at Caroline to make sure that she is still awake and shakes her slightly when she feels like her friend is close to falling asleep. Everything is feeling really uncomfortable.
Once outside the mansion, she calls out to her brother who doesn't take long to come out. "What's wrong?" he asks.
"Help her in," she orders before taking Kaiden out of the car. "I found her standing on the road."
It doesn't take long before Klaus is supporting Caroline and is asking her what happened while helping her inside. "I don't really know." He isn't getting more than her. "But the spirits or someone wants something, I just don't know what."
So they only have two unknown women and maybe a third person, that isn't much to go on. "Is there any way to find out more?" she asks.
"I guess to let it take me again, whatever it was." Caroline doesn't look like she likes the thought of it.
"Is it safe?" Klaus asks and helps Caroline to sit on the couch in the living room. "Is Kaiden safe?" he turns towards her.
"He doesn't have any injuries from what I've seen." She hands over Kaiden to him and takes his place by Caroline's side instead.
Her friend takes a deep breath. "I can feel how they want to drag me back." She says and looks at them with tired eyes. "I need to know what they want." She closes her eyes and lets herself fall asleep.
She isn't completely sure where she is. She doesn't recognise the forest as the one around Mystic Falls, so she has no idea how to navigate through it or what would be the closest way to civilisation.
But she doesn't think it matters, it's answers from the spirits that she needs and those she should be able to get anywhere. Annoyingly though, they don't seem talkative. Something is obviously wrong because her visions before having been forceful, and direct if not confusing before she has found her footing, this one is empty.
There is no sign of life around her. "I'm here, what do you want to show me?" she yells out without an answer. "When did you all become quiet?"
"They're occupied." A voice comes from behind her.
It is giving her the chills and she isn't certain if she should turn around, not certain if she wants to face the woman. But she needs answers and since everyone else is absent, she feels like she has little choice. Facing the woman, it turns out to be the one that was seated in her car, the older one with black hair.
"What do you want with me?" she asks the stranger.
"I want what was promised me." A hand is stretched out towards her and instinctively she takes a step back.
This isn't feeling good, but no one is trying to stop the woman. "What was promised to you?" is this something she could help with; is she meant to do so or stop whatever the stranger wants? She doesn't know what is right.
"The firstborns." The woman answers.
At the same time, something is grabbing around Caroline's arm, and she is being pulled backwards, away from the woman that is screaming after her, but she can't hear the words. Not that she feels safer, though, not when the other woman is now standing in front of her.
The younger one of the women and the one with blonde hair is looking kinder at her. "Help me." She begs. "She must be stopped." She isn't getting any wiser.
"Who are you?" she asks the woman. "Who must be stopped?" but she gets no answer.
The woman disappears just like it happened when she saw her for the first time. This isn't giving her anything, she would gladly go back to her old visions, she might not have much control over them, but she could understand them.
Once more she is standing alone in the woods. What has she missed, what does she need to see, to know to be able to wake, to get the information she needs? If the older of the women is telling the truth, what is keeping the spirits occupied?
She looks around her trying to find anything and fixes her gaze on what looks like complete darkness. It's impossible to see what lies beyond, but she wants to know, she wants to face it. But it doesn't matter how many steps she takes, how fast she moves, she can't get any closer.
"Leave it be." She, for the first time, hears the spirits. "She has only caused destruction." Whom are they talking about, she tries to ask but is ignored. "Leave it be." She is forced backwards, and everything disappears.
The sleepiness has left her when she wakes up, but she can't say that she is feeling any better, or wiser. Two women, none of them feels like the spirits. There are no images or movements to guide like with Kol and New Orleans, no this is something completely different.
She can feel Klaus's presence beside her, how he is tensely waiting for her to say something, maybe anything that can explain what is happening, it's just that she has no idea what to say. She would love to give him a target, something, or someone to plan for and maybe kill, but she has no idea whom.
Should she help the younger one, or is she meant to make sure the older one gets what she has been promised? The firstborns. Firstborns what, who's. and said it in plural so she was at least promised several. Why does this make her feel sick?
"Luv?" Klaus's patience seems to have run out. "What happened?"
She sighs. "The two women were there again. The younger one wanted my help stopping someone, maybe the older one." Was that why she pulled her away from the older one? "The older one, she was promised the firstborns." Why can't she get clear answers? "What does this have to do with me?" she thinks out loud.
Her first vision, nature wanted to guide her to Kol, to the answers that might help against the threat that was Silas. The second showed her what was coming for New Orleans and how to find where Cyrena was. Both showed her what she needed to know, something only she could do, so what did the two women have to do with her?
If it wasn't the spirits that showed them to her, who did, the women themselves? The older one wants what she is promised, that is what she wants from her. A pit opens in her stomach. "Kaiden."
