Ch 13 Worrisome Times

As Dogo and Kopa were heading out the sun had come up and Simba and his Pride were beginning a new day. Cala and Asha were getting ready to join the hunting party when Jasiri approached them. "Mom have you seen Kopa?" the rusty brown lioness asked. "I woke up this morning and he was gone."

"No dear I haven't seen him," Cala said, looking at Asha who shook her head no. Just then Kovu came up to the three lionesses with Kiara, Safara, Chafu, Vitani and Nuka right behind him.

"Hey there," Vitani said with a smile. "Mom sent me to find you guys. We're getting ready to head out for the hunt."

"Kopa's gone," Jasiri said, causing the group to gasp in surprise. "He was acting really strange last night and thins morning he wasn't there."

"He probably needed to clear his head," Nuka said. "But if it'll make you feel better me, Kovu and Chafu will look for him while you're on the hunt."

"Thank you Nuka," Jasiri said with a grateful smile. "I'd really appreciate that."

"As would I," Asha chimed in. "I've been very worried about Kopa. He just hasn't been himself lately."

"Don't worry Mom we'll find him," Kovu said, giving his mother a nuzzle. Just then Zira was heard calling for the lionesses.

"We'd better get out there," Safara said.

"Please let us know if you find Kopa," Kiara said.

"We will," Nuka promised, giving Kiara a comforting nuzzle. Kiara gave her love a smile as she dashed to catch up with the other lionesses.

"Well shall we go boys?" Chafu asked with a smile. But just then Simba stepped into the cave.

"Ah Nuka there you are son," the golden King said with a smile. "And Chafu I'm glad you're here too. We need to do some training today."

"But Dad we can't," Nuka declared. "Kopa's missing and we promised the ladies we'd look for him."

"Well we can look while we train," Simba said.

"But Dad," Nuka began.

"I'm sorry son but this can't wait," Simba said. "After all you and Vitani are going to be two soon. That means you'll be having a mating ceremony. You're mother and I plan to step down soon after that. I can't have you and Chafu being unprepared when the time comes."

"Don't worry guys," Kovu said with a smile. "I can look by myself. You guys go ahead."

"Fine," Nuka said with a sigh knowing he was beat. "Lets go." With that Nuka, Chafu and Simba headed out to do some training while Kovu headed out to find his missing brother.

Meanwhile Kopa and Dogo had reached the area near the gorge. "How much further do we have to go?" Kopa asked as he sat down and closed his eyes.

"Not to much further," Dogo declared. "But if you're feeling bad then we can stop for a bit to rest."

"Its just my damn head," Kopa said. "Its hurting again."

"Well have you had anything to eat today?" Dogo asked. "Cause I know I haven't."

"Yeah I am pretty hungry," Kopa admitted.

"Be right back," Dogo said with a smile. Without waiting for a response Dogo dashed away. A few minutes later he returned carrying two decent sized jackrabbits with him. "Here," Dogo said, tossing one of the rabbits to Kopa. "Enjoy."

"Thanks," Kopa said as he devoured the rabbit. "Where'd you get this from anyway?" Kopa asked as he swallowed the last bit of rabbit.

"From us that where!" an angry sounding voice cried out. Kopa and Dogo turned and saw Chana standing there with Moto and Kijana right behind her. The three young jackals looked very angry.

"You stole our kills Dogo!" Kijana cried out, getting right in Dogo's face.

"You left them out in the open," Dogo said. "So they were fair game."

"Like Hell they were!" Moto shouted. baring his teeth at Dogo while his siblings did the same.

"Whoa there lets just calm down here," Kopa said, getting between Moto and Dogo.

"I can't believe you even associate with the likes of him Kopa!" Moto shouted, causing Kopa to take a step back.

"For real!" Chana chimed in. "He's just like his mother: a liar, a thief and a manipulator!"

"Don't you dare talk about my parents!" Dogo snarled, getting right in Chana's face.

"Hey back the Hell off my sister!" Kijana growled, shoving Dogo away from Chana, causing his to stumble.

"C'mon Kopa lets get the Hell away from them!" Dogo growled. "Before I do something really stupid!"

"You know Kopa," Moto said as Kopa began to follow Dogo. "You don't have to go with him."

"Yeah stay with us Kop'," Kijana said. "We can hang out. Its been forever since we've done that."

"Remember what I said," Dogo hissed in Kopa's ear. "They don't care about you. They only want to hurt you."

"I'm hanging out with Dogo thanks," Kopa said. "So I'm good." With that Kopa turned and began to walk away. But suddenly a wave of dizziness came over him and he felt sick to his stomach.

"You ok Kop'?" Kijana asked, the concern clear in his voice.

"I..." Kopa began, closing his eyes tight in an effort to get the spinning to stop.

"Now's your chance," Kion's voice echoed in Kopa's head. "Show them whose boss around here."

"Yeah," Kopa muttered. "You're right. I'll do just that."

"Kopa," Kijana began. "What are you..." But suddenly Kopa let out of furious roar and attacked Kijana, taking him by surprise.

"Kijana!" Moto and Chana cried out, their eyes wide with shock. They went to help their brother but Dogo quickly intercepted them.

"Not today!" Dogo snarled as he hit Moto and Chana hard in their faces, sending them sprawling across the ground. Before they had a chance to recover Dogo charged over and hit them once again. Chana crashed into a rock and was knocked out cold. Moto also hit the ground and had the wind knocked out of him. "I think they get the point Kop'," Dogo said.

"Right," Kopa said, getting off the badly injured Kijana. With that the two males left the injured young jackals, neither one of them caring if they lived or not.

TLKTLKTLK

Chana heard a soft voice call her name. "C'mon sweetie open your eyes," came the familiar voice of Fauti. Chana let out a groan and slowly opened her eyes and she saw the concerned face of Fauti and Kuato looking down at her. "Oh honey are you alright?!" Fauti asked, giving her daughter a gentle nuzzle.

"What happened to you guys?!" Kuato asked at the same time.

"Are Moto and Kijana alright?" Chana asked, raising her head and looking at her unconsious brothers.

"They will be," Kuato said with a smile. "Kijana was pretty badly injured. But he'll make a full recovery happily."

"That's a relief," Chana said with a sigh. Just then they heard a low groan. Looking over they saw Moto was waking up.

"Ugh my head," the oldest jackal sibling groaned as he opened his eyes.

"Oh honey we were so worried," Fauti said, as she and Kuato gave their oldest boy a gentle nuzzle.

"Son what happened?" Kuato asked.

"You didn't tell them?" Moto asked, looking at Chana with surprise.

"I was more worried about you and Kijana," Chana said, nodding towards their still unconsious brother.

"Is he gonna be alright?" Moto asked softly.

"He'll be just fine honey," Fauti said with a small smile. "He just needs time to recover right now."

"Damn that Kopa," Moto grumbled. "Him and Dogo are gonna pay big time for this."

"Wait did you say Kopa?" Kuato asked, his black eyes wide with surprise.

"You bet your ass I did," Moto growled. "Kopa's gone completely off the deep end. He and Dogo attacked us. For no reason at all. And when I find Kopa I'm gonna kill him myself."
