Chapter 10

SG-1 had returned to base to debrief General Hammond on the meeting with Thor of the Asgard. Upon stepping off the ramp Jack had the most disturbed look upon his face. Sam noticed the expression.

"What is it, sir?" she asked him as she stepped off the ramp.

"I just trying to picture Thor as a young, hot, teenage Asgard." he confessed.

She nearly burst out laughing but managed to contain her humor. She let out a grin, "I can see him as a young, hot, teenage Asgard."

He cocked an eyebrow, "You can, Carter?"

She laughed amused, "Ah-ha." She then noticed the disturbed look on Quincy's face. She asked, "Everything okay, Quince?"

"No!" she shook her head. "Thor and the Asgard look worse than I ever could have imagined. They only got a few years left at this rate and that's being conservative. The cloning issue is far worse than what Thor is letting you know. In five years they will all be gone at this rate."

Jack asked, "You think it's worse than what Thor is telling us?"

She nodded hard, "Yes! The Caduceus is their only hope at this point."

Daniel had to agree, "Thor did seem to have more hope this time. He even offered to let Quincy stay on the ship and they could look for the Caduceus together. Which was highly unusual." he added.

Quincy rebutted, "The Asgard and my people worked together in the past. That's not unusual."

Sam stated, "Rarely does Thor offer to let us stay. Not unless it's an emergency." She then cocked her head as she looked at her friend, "I'm trying to imagine what life was like ten thousand years ago with a teenage Thor."

Quincy shrugged, "Things were normal for me back then. This is post apocalypse for me."

Cam spoke up, "I have a question. The ring that Cassie Frasier used to send you all back to your right time in the future. Why can't we use it to go back ten thousand years and get a ZPM right from the Ancients themselves? Why go only six thousand years back?"

Sam explained, "If we did that we would end up on Atlantis, here on Earth ten thousand years ago. The wormhole will bring us right back to Earth." She looked at Quincy, "Didn't you say the city was a ship and it used the ZPM's for power?"

She nodded, "It has three of them. It only needs one to function. Two are for back up."

Cam suggested, "Why not go back to when Atlantis was on Earth then?"

Quincy stated, "Because there was a virus running through my people and we don't to want to bring it back with us here. I could use the ring to get us back that far. We would risk bringing the virus back with us and exposing modern day people from Earth to it."

"You know," Sam pondered. "If we could get a sample of that virus, Janet could analysis it. That way if whoever released it on your people decide to release it on us we have time to study it and maybe find a cure."

"I'm pretty sure there is no cure." Quincy stated.

General Hammond entered the gate Room. He addressed the prize team. "Report Colonel."

Jack spoke to his friend and commander. "Thor is going to help us find the research ship." He glanced at Sam and Cam, "He also thinks we need to find Atlantis. It may have the last known coordinates of the research ship. Thing is, in order to dial Atlantis, we need a battery thingy and Adams thinks we can use the ring that Cassie Frasier used to send us back from that 1969 incident to back when Ra ran things and get one she thinks he had in his treasury."

Hammond asked, "Where is that device that Cassie Frasier used to send you back, Colonel?"

"Apparently Adams has it." he motioned towards Quincy.

She explained, "My aunt's boyfriend was an inventor who was obsessed with time travel. His name was Janus. He made the ring for her and she left it to me when she ascended. I have it at home."

Hammond stood for just a moment as he processed the information. He then replied, "I see. Are you willing to give us the ring?"

"I will bring it in." she agreed. "It has to go to Cassie Frasier so she can make sure the team gets sent back to the right time from the 1969 incident. Meaning, Sam must take possession of it someday anyways. So, at one point, I must have told Sam who I really am." She glanced at her friend. "My best guess is I gave it to you to make sure Cassie got it to send you back home."

"Would make sense." she agreed.

Jack couldn't help but ask, "You got any other Ancient tech at home, Adams?"

She confessed, "A few things."

"Such as?" he wondered.

She recalled, "A personal shield. A healing pen. Some tools."

Jack asked, "Can you bring it in?"

"I suppose." she agreed. "But it is my personal property. You can't just keep it."

Hammond assured, "I understand any technology from your people would your property. I will not confiscate anything from you. Anything you wish to share with us is volunteer and greatly appreciated."

Quincy felt more at ease with the assurance. She gave a soft smile, "Thank you, George." she spoke softly.

He smiled in an assuring way. "Go home and get that ring, Quincy. You are the last Ancient and we need your help."

She sighed slightly as she was reminded of her plight. She pulled herself together and agreed, "I'll go get that ring."

Sam volunteered, "I'm coming with you."

"Okay." she agreed.

An Hour Later

Sam and Quincy returned back to base carrying a small box of articles that were Ancient in origin. Quincy placed the ring on her finger for safe keeping for it was the smallest of the pieces of technology she possessed. As they stepped off the elevator Sam wondered aloud.

"I wonder how Cassie was able to activate that ring in the first place since it's gene encoded?" Sam pondered.

Quincy stated, "The ring is programmable. I must have encoded it to her genetics at some point. Or you encoded it."

"Must have." she agreed. "Just wish Cassie in the future gave us a little more information. All she said was we were on a wonderful journey."

Quincy had to agree, "You are on a wonderful journey. For you it's all about discovery. For me it's about the past."

Sam stated, "We really should go back to when Atlantis was here on Earth and see your father. Maybe he can give us information on the virus and where his ship is. It would be better than sneaking past Ra's nose in Egypt."

"If we bring that virus back with us it could wipe out every human on Earth." she warned. "Teenage me was already infected."

"But your father could help us and the Asgard." Sam countered. "How long was it between you being cured by the Panacea to when your father fell ill?"

"Six months." she reported. "Then he and my sisters all got it at once. At first I thought I must have been a carrier and gave it to them but the timing was off. I'm not sure how they were exposed to it. For that matter I still have no idea where I got it from either."

Sam pondered, "So, there is a six month window between when you got it and when they got it. You're right. That was a weapon. They had to have purposely exposed. Same with you."

"I know." she agreed.

"Let's get permission to use the ring to go back to when Atlantis was here on Earth. You can at least warn your father and maybe he could help us." she suggested.

"But I'm a teenager and already on Atlantis." she countered. "Should I even go? What if I meet myself?"

"Then give the ring to the Colonel and let him use it to bring us back. He has the gene." Sam proposed.

Quincy stated, "It's too small for his big fingers. It's a ladies ring. And he doesn't have an entire gene like an Ancient would. His abilities to use it will be limited by that fact alone."

Sam told her, "If we go back to the past when Atlantis was still on earth we either have you come with us and you risk meeting your self or we have the Colonel control the ring. Those are our only options." She then dangled a carrot, "If I had the opportunity to go back in time and see my mom again, I would jump at the chance."

"I would like to see my family again." she confessed.

Sam gave a knowing look to her friend.

"Okay! Okay! We go to Atlantis first, warn my father, get what info we can and then go to Egypt and get the ZPM that Ra had in his treasury." she agreed.

Sam stated, "Did you say the city ship has three ZPM's and two are spares?"

She nodded, "That's right."

"Why not just grab one of the spares." she suggested.

"Because if they submerge the city then will need all three to keep the shield up." she told her. "or else we would be dialing the gate to a flooded city."

"I see." Sam gave a hard nod. "I guess we need to leave the city's ZPM's in city's then. Especially if we are going to go retrieve it."

"That was my thought." Quincy agreed.

As the walked Cameron Mitchell rounded the corner. He greeted his fellow Majors. "Quince! Sam! How did it go?" he inquired.

Quincy held up the box, "Got everything."

He noticed the ring on her hand. "Is that the ring?"

Sam confirmed, "That's the ring that Cassie used to send us back."

"Neat." he grinned. He began to walk with the two. "It's cool being able to turn the Star Gate into a time portal. Using the wormhole we could send ourselves anywhere through time and to any planet. That's cool!"

Quincy rolled her eyes annoyed.

Sam had to agree, "It is kind of cool, huh." She to Quincy, "Janus must have been a interesting man."

She shrugged, "I always thought he was a bit of a dork myself."

Sam gasped, "He was your aunt's boyfriend. Did your people even use the word 'dork'?"

"Exactly!" she laughed.

Sam began to wonder if the Ancients themselves were more like modern earthlings or if it was an effect that living on earth had on Quincy. Her question would soon be answered as she glanced at the ring knowing where it could lead them.
