Chapter 41

Amber had gotten up before Sam. She always was an early riser. Careful to make sure not to disturb Sam, she slipped out of her sleeping bag. Sam stirred and turned over but did not wake.

Tiptoeing out of the room, she headed downstairs. She had been thinking about Dean last night while trying to fall asleep. He seemed to be spiraling down into sadness again before everyone had gone to bed. As if once the excitement was over about the baby, the loss of Cas settled again on his shoulders.

When she reached the living room, she expected to see Dean still asleep on the couch. Or maybe sitting with the baby. Perhaps lying there with his eyes open, thinking about Cas.

What she did not expect was to see Dean with Cas tucked tightly in his arms, buried under the blankets. Simply staring at the two , she her brain could not process it.

Castiel was not pale, as in death, but there was a rose tint to his cheeks and his eyelids fluttered as he slept. He smiled in his sleep as Dean tightened his hold around him. Amber simply could not understand it. So she trudged back upstairs to the Bobby's room, thinking that she might be dreaming.

It must be a dream. Cas was alive and well and it was a dream. Bending over Sam, who was still asleep, she poked him awake.

Groaning, Sam sat up and glanced at her blearily. "What?"

Her mouth seemed like it did not want to work, so she grabbed Sam's arm and tugged him up. Sam frowned at her but stood. Continuing to pull him along, she led him back downstairs and into the living room. Not a word was spoken as they both stopped and stared at the pair on the couch.

Dean stirred, the back of his neck prickling as if someone was watching him. Opening his eyes, he saw he was right. Both Amber and his brother were standing there, gaping at him. Well, more Cas then him.

"Dean...what did you do?" Sam hissed, finally finding his voice.

"Nothing." Frowning, Dean sat up and studied his brother. Sam looked scared...he probably thought that Dean had made a deal or did some other stupid thing to get Cas back.

"Then how?" Sam gestured to Cas, who was still asleep.

"Cas came back to me." Dean grinned down at his mate. "God brought him back. Or that's what Cas says."

Dean brushed Cas' cheek softly and he blinked his eyes open, smiling. "Dean."

The hunter's face was the most beautiful thing Cas had ever opened his eyes to see. Cas reached up to Dean, snaking his hand around the nape of Dean's neck to pull him down for a kiss. Apparently he hadn't noticed Amber and Sam yet.

Clearing his throat, Dean gave a little jerk of his head towards the two. Looking over, Cas smiled at their shocked faces.

"Good morning."

"Cas, you're alive." was all Amber could think to say.

Nodding, Cas laughed. "Yes, I believe I am."

Kamael started crying for the first time, and all four jumped. They had almost forgotten the baby. Dean threw the covers off of them and bent to comfort Kam.

Amber was still watching Cas as though afraid he would keel over at any minute. To reassure her that he was indeed ok, Cas stood up, stretching his aching limbs.

"I'm fine," he smiled at Amber and Sam. Amber suddenly launched herself forward, gripping Cas in the tightest hug he ever believed that he had experienced. Wincing as he felt his bones crack, he gasped out, "Amber, you're cutting off my air supply."

"Sorry," she said breathlessly, releasing him. "I'm just so happy."

Cas' incision gave a twinge and he looked down; his white shirt had a light red stain on it. Apparently his wound had been oozing through the night.

Furrowing her brows together, Amber reached out to lift up the hem of Cas' shirt. The ugly stitches startled her. Glancing at Cas, she said, "But why-?"

"He's not an angel anymore. He's human." Dean answered for Cas. "He has to heal like a human now."

"Still.." Amber took another glance at the wound. It looked red and enflamed. "That doesn't look good."

Dean stood, holding Kam in his arms, to take a look. Amber was right. It looked infected. He would be damned to get Cas back after battling Lucifer just to lose him to an infection.

"Maybe Bobby can call Pat back?" Sam suggested quietly. "She could probably help."

Shifting Kam in his arms, Dean looked at Cas. Apparently the man did not realize that this was serious. Kam continued crying, reaching out one tiny fist to Cas. His little face was turning red and splotchy, tears flowing freely down his cheeks.

Cas met Dean's eyes. It was almost like they could still sense each other's emotions even though they were not bonded in the same way anymore. Silently, Dean handed the baby off to Cas, who cradled the child in his arms. Kam quieted immediatedly. Sam and Amber exchanged glances; they could feel that there was some of kind of silent communication between the trio.

Kam patted Cas' chest lightly and Cas took in a sharp breath of air. Gripping his shoulder, Dean's eyes widened.

"What?"

Cas answering by lifting up the hem of his shirt to reveal his stomach. The incision, although still stitched up and visible, looked a lot less angry. There were some scabs starting to form; the beginning of the healing process.

"Holy shit." Sam breathed. "He got rid of the infection."

Dean's fingertips brushed over his son's wet cheek in awe. There were countless times that he had seen Cas heal people, but it seemed strange to realize Kam could do it too, though to a lesser extent.

"He is part angel, Dean. Although he doesn't have full angelic powers he can perform minor miracles." Cas explained. The baby nuzzled into Cas, content and quiet now. "I think Kam is still bonded to me in a way. He sensed my distress and knew he could help."

"It's amazing," Amber said quietly.

"Kam?" Sam questioned, changing the subject. The name had not slipped by him.

"Kamael." Cas gave confirmation with a nod.

"I think's it's lovely." Amber smiled, glad the child had finally been given a name. "Does it mean anything?"

"An angel who presides over beauty, happiness and contentment." Cas answered, shifting the subject of conversation in his arms. It felt strange to him to hold a baby this way...his baby, he had to remind himself. It still felt unreal that he was a father. Unreal but welcome, and he realized that if he had stayed in Heaven, listening to orders, none of this would have ever happened. His heart grew cold at the thought.

Leaning forward, he touched his lips to Dean's, needing the contact to reassure himself. The hunter did not stop the kiss as he did before. When they broke apart, Dean wrapped an arm around Cas' shoulders, holding him close and they both stared down at their son, who was now sucking on Cas' shirt.

The name Kameal did fit exactly what they were both feeling now.

Amber started sniffling quietly, but it soon turned into loud bawling. Cas looked up, startled. Wiping tears away, she reassured him, "I'm fine..you guys are just so adorable! All three of you together like that...I can't handle it, it's so cute!"

Dean flushed with embarrassment as Sam chuckled. Cas simply smiled; the comment did not seem to bother him. In fact it did the opposite...it was delightful to hear that they were adorable together.

"What the hell is going on?" Bobby's voice echoed through the room. All turned to look at the older hunter, who looked as of he were about to pass out at the sight of Cas alive and well.

"I'll explain," Dean said quickly, eager to leave before Amber deemed that he was 'cute' again.

Taking Bobby into the kitchen, he glanced back at Cas, who had had happiness written all over his face. Although Cas wasn't a part of Heaven anymore, Dean felt like they had created their own Heaven here on Earth.
