Chapter 44
Cas laid on top of Dean's bare chest, breathing softly. Dean brushed the hair away from Cas' forehead and smiled.
"We need to go back, baby."
"I know." Cas sighed. He loved being alone with Dean, just the two of them. He wouldn't care if it was only the two of them left in the world..that would be enough for him. And Kam, of course. He would never be parted from his son.
A sharp rap on the window startled both of them, and they quickly threw on some clothes instinctively before even checking to see who it was. All four doors of the car suddenly flew open, and then Cas and Dean were being dragged out, from opposite sides.
"Castiel." a voice snarled in Cas' ear and he started trembling. That voice was all too familiar.
"Raphael."
"You're a human now." Rapheal threw Cas to the ground, smirking. "So you can't take Dean and disappear on us anymore. No more tricks from you."
There was a commotion on the other side of the car; Cas could hear punches being thrown and then a loud grunt and thump as if someone fell to the ground. Cas knew very well that it was Dean, even though he couldn't see.
Leaping to his feet, he made to rush past Rapheal but the angel grabbed him. "No more interfering. You're just another one of the maggots now."
Cas fought against Raphael, but his hold was unbreakable. Rolling his eyes at the fruitless attempts of the fallen angel, Rapheal touched two fingers to Cas' forehead. Immediately Cas became still, slumping in Rapheal's arms. The archangel released him, letting him collapse onto the grass without a further thought.
Zachiriah brought Dean around, finally managing to get him under control. The hunter had blood dripping from his mouth and his left eye was starting to bruise. Wincing painfully, Dean tried to focus..his vision was blurry.
He saw another angel..Raphael. His arms were crossed, smirking at Dean. At his feet on the ground was Castiel. He was not moving.
"Cas!" Dean screamed. A burst of adrenaline raced through his body and he struggled against Zachiriah. "What did you do to him?"
"Nothing he didn't deserve." Raphael grinned, and Dean paled.
"He's alive, Dean." Zachiriah drawled. "But we can easily change that if you don't cooperate."
Dean stopped fighting immediately, staring at Cas' motionless figure. "What do you want? It's over. Lucifer is gone."
"Micheal wants to talk to you, Dean." Raphael replied, stepping over Castiel's body. "Just talk."
"I'm done with him." Dean said stubbornly, and Raphael's eyes burned.
"Fine. As we said..if you don't want to, that's fine." Rapheal bent next to Cas, reaching out to touch him.
"No, stop!" Dean said desperately. "I'll go..just leave him alone."
"Good choice, Dean. The first good one you've made in a long time." Zachiriah hissed in his ear. There were two swishes, and in the blink of an eye, Cas was the only person left on the field.
