Later I sat on one of the motel beds, my knees pulled up to my chest while Dean sat on the other bed, cleaning one of his guns. I hadn't spoken to him or Sam ever since what happened at the park and they hadn't spoken to me either. They'd helped clean out the wounds on my neck and wrist, but then it had been complete silence between us. I probably shouldn't have snapped earlier.
The door opened and I looked up to see Sam. "So, I think it's safe to say we can rule out Nessie."
"What do you mean?" Dean asked, his eyes not leaving his gun as he listened.
Sam went over and sat next to Dean. "I just drove past the Carlton house. There was an ambulance there. Will Carlton is dead."
"He drowned?" Dean asked, his voice surprised. Sighing, I turned to fully face them, swinging my legs over the side of the bed.
"Yep." Sam paused. "In the sink."
"What the hell?" Dean said and Sam shook his head slightly. "So you're right, this isn't a creature. We're dealing with something else."
"Yeah, but what?" Sam wondered. I frowned.
"I don't know. Water wraith, maybe?" Dean suggested, shrugging. "Some kind of demon? I mean, something that controls water..." I realized it when my brothers did. "...water that comes from the same source."
"The lake." Sam added after Dean finished talking.
"Yeah." Dean said, setting his gun down.
"Which would explain why it's upping the body count. The lake is draining. It'll be dry in a few months. Whatever this thing is, whatever it wants, it's running out of time." Sam said, slightly excited since we were beginning to figure things out. Or they were, anyways. I was just causing problems for them.
"And if it can get through the pipes, it can get to anyone, almost anywhere." Dean stood as he continued speaking. "This is gonna happen again. Soon."
He went over and sat in a chair as Sam spoke. "And we do know one other thing for sure. We know this has got something to do with Bill Carlton."
"Yeah, it took both his kids." Dean said, pulling his boots on.
"And I've been asking around. Lucas's dad, Chris—Bill Carlton's godson." Sam said, a little matter of fact like.
"Let's go pay Mr. Carlton a visit." Dean said, standing.
"Not yet." Sam said, standing and turning to look at me. "We need to talk about what happened at the park first."
"People are dying, Sam." I said, standing and heading for the door. "Let's stop this thing first then I'll tell you what I can."
Dean caught my arm as I went to pass him and he held me still. "No, Sam's right. We need to talk about it now."
"Why are you trying to pass this off as something that doesn't matter?" Sam demanded, crossing his arms over his chest as Dean let go of my arm and glared down at me.
I scoffed, looking between the two of them. "Seriously? We have more important things to deal with here, guys."
"Nothing's more important than family, Cameron." Dean said, his glare not dropping. "So we're going to stay here until you tell us what happened. No matter how long it takes."
"And if you don't tell us then you'll just be making it take longer for us to stop this thing so your excuse that we have bigger problems isn't going to work." Sam added, his eyes slightly angry still. "Did he say what he wanted?"
I sighed and turned away from them, throwing my hands up. "Not really."
"What did he say?" Dean asked as I turned around to face them again.
"He said, he wanted to talk and then he said he wanted to try something new." I responded, not meeting their eyes. "And other than that all I really know about what happened is that he can hear my thoughts."
"What?" Dean questioned, frowning. "You're sure about this?"
I nodded. "Yeah. Pretty sure."
"Why did you have such a problem telling us?" Sam asked, letting his arms drop to his sides.
"Because I don't really share things with people." I answered, frowning as I looked between them. "Since I didn't know anything really I figured it wasn't that important. I was hoping you would just drop it."
"Yeah, well it doesn't work like that, kiddo." Dean said, a little bit of anger still in his voice. "Even if it's the tiniest insignificant detail, if it's got something to do with the supernatural, I want you to tell us. Okay?"
I nodded, looking down at my feet. "Yeah. Sorry."
"It's fine, just try not to get so defensive about it again." Sam said, heading for the door. "Come on."
I sighed and followed after them.
(Sorry it's so short. I promise the next one will be longer. Please review and again thanks to snn7b!)
