Turning toward the window Max stared out while the other students were finishing up their papers. It was actually a beautiful day. The sky was fairly clear and it looked as though a nice breeze had come in from the north. Perfect for flying. Gazing wistfully toward the trees off to the back of the campus she ignored when Mrs. Meyers called for papers to be passed forward.

Someone slapped her over the head with a sheet of paper.

Turning in her seat with a glare fit to melt iron Max eyed the red haired earwig sitting behind her. "Got a problem?" She inquired snarkily. By the look in the girl's eye, yes. Yes she did. Max realized this day was quickly going to the dogs.

"Pass the papers forward, will you?" The red head sneered and shoved the same papers at her. With eyes glaring holes into the girl she snatched the sheets and had to refrain from returning the early sentiment and bringing the papers down on the girl. She rather suspected she could make it hurt quite a bit more than cherry head here had managed.

"Well aren't we all sunshine and rainbows today," Max muttered as she turned to the left and passed the papers a row over. Honestly, did she expect Max to pass them on to the blind kid who was sitting behind an empty seat? There were a few chuckles from near by and the red head, Lisa she heard someone whisper, went red in the face.

Mrs. Meyers, either not caring or determined to see the day through without blowing up at the new student, turned to the computer and booted up the monitor. The rest of the class involved a boring power point that covered everything they were apparently supposed to have read about last night. Yeah, she bombed that quiz big time.

At the end of class she hung back with Iggy while he explained to Mrs. Meyers the general supplements he normally used. The recorder and general examinations given before or after a class period started. Meyers seemed to take it all in stride and conceded to his points. She asked if he had one, seeing as she hadn't seen it during class. Iggy explained a hasty departure from his last school which had left him short one recording device.

Max, then, was particularly shocked to hear Mrs. Meyers offer to make sure he had a new one available to him by the start of the next class period. As Iggy acquiesced to the offer Max stared from boy to lady with something between shock and suspicion. Iggy had the old hag wrapped around his finger.

It was totally unfair!

The brunette slumped out of the classroom after receiving a stern reprimand to read chapter two before class the following day. Max didn't bother mentioning she didn't even have a book. Shock number two came as she and Iggy entered the hallway and she noticed the emo kid – Fang, she reminded herself – standing beside the door with a world weary look to him. When he saw the two he turned without a word, their only incentive a clumsy wave in the direction he'd started walking. Too fed up with it all Max gave Iggy a grumbled demand, took his arm, and drug him after the retreating boy.

Max watched Fang with growing ire as he, admittedly, did little to earn it. What was his problem, anyway? What had she done to piss him off so completely? Was it her fault he had no sense of humor? Couldn't take a joke? Couldn't be the least sensible bit of polite? Now that she thought about it, she honestly had no clue how she had managed to ruffle the kid's metaphorical feathers. Normally she had a clue; a reason, even if it wasn't a good one.

So she walked after, her mood somewhat contemplative. Had she sat in his seat? Did he have some problem with new kids? Max thought back to the conversation she had overheard in the hallway he was in some theater class. Yeah, okay, so that was pretty lame. He was probably embarrassed, right? Sounded like a personal problem.

She had been nice enough to last her into this life and the next. She had no reason what so ever to feel bad for this person. Honesty if he wanted to be and idiot and go shaking her off then so be it. She didn't have time for this kid and his antics.

Iggy walked beside her, clearly in no requirement of her assistance. She was still rather mystified with how quickly he was able to adapt to new surroundings. Blind people, as a rule, needed help with things. Iggy could handle new terrain as well as anyone with 20/20 vision. Probably a bit better, seeing as she was tripping over her own feet half the time. But, he was a bird kid. He had super powers, basically. She supposed it came with the territory.

She turned her attention to another, more pressing matter. Where on earth were they going? They had walked out of the building and into another, but the classrooms were slowly dwindling and they were reaching the end of the hall quick. She squinted at Fang. Did he even know where they were supposed to be going?

"Hey, Fang," she bit her tongue, having almost called him 'Emo Kid'. No brownie points to be given for that one, "Where exactly are we going?" His reply was little more than a turn and glare. A surprise, then. Max rolled her eyes.

Emo kid that he may be, she doubted he was actually going to do anything untoward. There was a blind kid with them for Pete's sake. He wouldn't hurt a blind kid. Her? Well, it would be fun to watch him try.

Finally they reached the end of the hall and stepped out onto the sidewalk and she still had no clue what was going on. Where they supposed to have a class outside or something?

Then the answer hit her.
