Chapter 53

Cas had found an old plastic tub in the basement and converted it into a bath tub for Kam. Cuurently, he had the baby's head raised to keep it out of the water with one hand while he scrubbed Kam gently with the other.

Dean found him in the bathroom and a grin exploded across his face. He kneeled on the ground, and waved the bundle of cash in front of Cas' face.

"Wanna go shopping?"

"Where did you get that?" Cas glanced at him with surprise.

"Bobby. It's a present for Kam. He also said we can stay here as long as we need; we can fix up the room for ourselves."

Cas' face brightened considerably, and he lifted Kam out of the water. Dean grabbed a clean towel and handed it to Cas, who wrapped Kam up. "That's great news."

He was getting restless and worried about what would happen when Bobby told them it was time to go.

"Can you dry him while I clean up?" Cas handed Kam to Dean so he could empty the makeshift tub. Dean grabbed his arm to stop him.

"Cas..I want you to see that I'm trying. I'll give you everything you want.. and more."

Cas placed a hand on Dean's cheek. "Are you still worried about what I said last night?"

The hunter looked down at Kam, giving no response. That in itself was answer enough for Cas. He kissed Dean, slow and soft, and whispered, "I don't want you to think about that. I don't want to think about it. I was stupid for saying those things, and I wish I had not gotten caught up in the moment and said them. I promise you that I will not leave. Til Death do us part, Dean."

Dean had almost forgotten about their engagement. He grinned, leaning forward on his knees to return Cas' kiss. "Last night is forgotten, then. Let's wipe it from the past and never mention it again."

Brushing his fingers against Dean's cheek, Cas whispered, "It's forgotten."

He stood to dump Kam's bath water out, and Dean grabbed another towel to dry Kam's little tuft of hair. The baby made a small noise, and Dean kissed the tip of his nose.

"Do you want to go pick out some things for your new room?" he whispered. He knew some people liked to talk in stupid voices to their babies, but there was no way he could do that with Kam. He had a feeling that the kid knew what they were talking about and speaking to him like that would insult his intelligence.

"He's been healing me, you know." Cas sat on the edge of the toilet seat. "My incision..it looks better every night."

He lifted the hem of his shirt to show Dean. The hunter agreed that it was healing at a much faster pace then it usually would.

"We'll have to pull the stitches out soon," Dean looked closely, noticing that the incision could hardly be seen. "Maybe in a few days."

An apprehensive look came over Cas' face. Dean chuckled. "Don't worry. I'll be gentle..unless you'd rather Pat do it-"

"Wha's Pat?" Cas looked thoroughly confused. Dean had forgotten that Cas had not actually met the woman.

"The woman who did the C-section on you. The one who sewed you up."

Dean's face had darkened suddenly and Kam whimpered, as if sensing the change in mood from his father.

"No..I don't want her to do it." Cas hugged Dean; since the hunter was on the floor, he was lower then Cas so Cas had to lean over. "I only trust you."

"Hey..let's get Kam dressed and leave okay? I think it would do us both good to get out of the house." Dean changed the subject abruptly. He stood, holding Kam carefully and left the bathroom.

Sighing, Cas got up to follow him. The mention of his Death brought back bad feelings for him; he could only imagine what it did to Dean. It didn't help that they were sleeping in the same bed that his body had been, wrapped up like a mummy. When he had awoken from Death, he had a hard time getting out of the sheets. He could imagine Dean standing above his body, pain spreading through him at the loss of his mate.

Dean was wrapping a clean diaper around Kam when Cas came into the room, and Cas grabbed some clothes to dress him in. They were lucky they had picked out some things already {actually, stole some things} the night before they summoned the Reaper.

"Dean...let's forget that that ever happened too, ok?"

Cas didn't elaborate, but Dean knew he was talking about the night of his death. Dean hesitated for a second, then nodded.

"Yeah. That's one thing I never want to remember." Dean held Kam so Cas could pull a shirt over his head. "Let's start over..pretend that we're just two guys that got together. We have a kid, a place to live, we're going to get married-"

"You're what!" Amber popped her head in the open door. She had been passing by when she overheard the conversation.

"I proposed to Cas last night. We're going to tie the knot." Dean said proudly, and Cas smiled shyly. Amber whooped and came in, dropping to her knees to pull both of them into a hug.

"This is awesome!" Amber sang out. "Any plans? Is it going to be some big crazy wedding?"

"We haven't talked about it...but I think the smaller the better. Maybe just me and Cas."
Amber rolled her eyes. "C'mon! This is supposed to be an amazing day! Go nuts!"

Cas smiled at Dean before saying, "The amazing part is marrying Dean. I don't need anything more then that."

"Alrighty then. when you change your minds, give me a shout. I can plan the greatest party ever." Amber gave them both another squeeze, and patted Kam on the cheek before standing. "Oh, Sam and I are going out. Need anything?"

"We're actually going to go shopping for Kam." Dean said. "Want to come?"

Amber smiled slyly. "No, thanks. Sam is actually taking me out. As in a date. Just the two of us." she squeaked excitedly. "Probably after we're gonna bunk in a motel and have lots of sex. He promised me before he became Lucifer's meatsuit."

"Okay..not something I wanted to hear." Dean muttered. "Have fun..I guess..but no details about the sex part if you don't mind."

"Will do, Captain." Amber saluted. "Have fun with your shopping. Maybe we'll see you around town."

She popped out of the room and galloped down the stairs like an elephant. Dean could hear her calling for Sam once she was downstairs.

"She's like a five year old. She's too energetic and doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut." Dean complained, but Cas knew that it was an act. He could tell that Dean had a soft spot for the girl and she was part of the family now too.

"Should we go then? And hope we don't run into Sam and Amber smooching?" Dean added as he heard a car fire up outside. Sam must have borrowed Bobby's Chevelle.

"Yes." Cas nodded, and took a last look around the room, thinking of what they could buy to fill it and make it their own.
