Chapter 55
The house was quiet, and Bobby hated it. After years of being alone most of the time, he had gotten used to the solitude but these past few days had shown him what it was like to have a houseful of people.
He tried to concentrate of his work. It was odd that he couldn't; there was less noise and distrations now with everybody gone but he just couldn't focus.
Throwing his book down on his desk, Bobby gave up and wondered when the boys and Amber would be back. Amber had said something about being gone all day while she was running out the door, tugging poor Sam with her.
Bobby rubbed his eyes. He would miss all the idjits when they all finally cleared out. It was like having a family again. The house seemed brighter and more alive then it had been in a long time.
A roar of an engine came from outside, and Bobby recognized it as the Impala's. His heart lifted and he heaved himself out of his chair to see how Dean and Cas made out.
"Dean..let me put Kam upstairs and then I can help you."
Bobby heard Cas arguing with the hunter before he even got outside.
"No, I got it." Dean grunted as if lifting something heavy.
Cas gave an exasperated sigh. "You're so stubborn."
He almost bumped into Bobby as he reached the front stoop at the same time as the hunter. Gesturing to Dean, who was dragging a big box across the yard, he said, "Maybe you can help him with that before he breaks his back?"
Without waiting for an answer, he hurried inside to put Kam safely upstairs so he could help Dean.
Bobby went over and grabbed the other end of the box, hauling it up so it wasn't so heavy for Dean.
Dean protested. "I had it."
"Looked like it."
They made their way to the front stoop and into the house, heaving the box upstairs to their room. Cas had pu Kam in his drawer on the bed so that he would be out of harm's way.
He followed the other two men downstairs to unload everything else. It went pretty quick with Bobby helping and finally all of the items were in the room, waiting to be unpacked.
Bobby wiped his brow, surveying everything. Looked like they got whatever they needed.
"Bobby," Cas turned suddenly to the older hunter. "Thank you for the money."
Bobby smiled and patted Cas on the back. Cas seemed much happier then he had been in the past few days. "Don't worry about it."
Sticking a hand in his pocket, Dean pulled out what was left of the cash Bobby had given him. "There was some left over-"
"Keep it." Bobby interrupted. "Put it toward something you need."
"Like the wedding." Dean mentioned offhandedly to Cas.
"Wedding?" Bobby asked.
Dean lifted Cas' hand to show him the ring there. "We're getting married." he said proudly.
"Congratulations." Bobby gripped Dean's hand tightly. To him, marriage didn't seem as permanent as the relationship Dean and Cas had before, when Cas was still an angel. Bobby knew they had a stronger emotional bond then; they were actually connected. Maybe they were doing this to make it feel more like the bond they had before.
The phone rang from downstairs and Bobby said, "Just call if you need help setting anything up."
He gave Cas another pat on the back and hurried down to answer the phone as it rang again.
"Should we get started?" Dean put his arms around Cas' waist and pulled him close. Their lips touched and Cas smiled under the kiss.
"Can't wait."

Cas sat next to Dean on the bed as both looked over the room. They had put everything in their respective places; the dresser drawers were full of Kam's things, and his crib was set up in the corner. Kam's makeshift bed was put back into it's rightful place, inside the drawer and Kam was tucked up in his new blankets in his new crib.
They had hung their own clothes in the closet, but the clothes barely took up half the space. Cas pretty much had only a few shirts and pants to his name, plus his original suit. Dean didn't have much more.
"That's pretty sad..the baby has more clothes then we do." Dean joked, letting himself fall back onto the bed.
Kam made a noise from the other side of the room, and both looked over at him. He had turned on his side so he was looking at them with big eyes.
"I think he likes his new bed." Cas said quietly.
"Sam had this thing when he was a baby..what's it called..a mobile. We should have gotten Kam one. It hangs over the crib; I think Sam's had bears hanging from it. It's supposed to help the baby relax or something."
"Next time." Cas said. "we'll start a new list."
Dean pulled Cas down next to him, and ran a hand through his hair. Their eyes met, and Cas' were sparkling while Dean's looked troubled.
"Are you happy?" The hunter asked quietly. The atmosphere in the room had changed. When before it was light, now it was full of worry.
"Of course I'm happy."
"Then why do you keep talking about leaving and how maybe this wasn't meant to be?" Dean said softly, brushing a finger along Cas' cheek.
"Dean...I didn't mean any of that. I was being stupid." Cas leaned forward to touch his lips to Dean's. "I am happy, with you. I just feel a little lost..there was a purpose before, to end the Apocalypse. Now there is no goal and we get to choose to do whatever we want. It's strange."
Dean nodded, agreeing. There had never been a point in his life where there was not a case to solve. It was strange for Cas, but it was odd for him too. He knew deep down in his heart that there would be a time when he would hunt again. Maybe not full time, but something here and there just to keep him sharp. Once a hunter, always a hunter.
