Lost Keys
Chapter 16
"A recorded message?" Stein asked through the phone. Soul had called him and informed him about what had happened. "Do you still have the box?" Stein asked.
Soul reached into his pocket, making sure the recorded message box was still there, "Yeah."
"Good. Bring it to me later. I would like to examine it."
'More like dissect it…' Soul thought. "Yeah. Sure." With that, he turned off the phone. He turned to look at his surprise guest passed out on the couch. Man... This guy was so heavy Soul thought he was about to break his own back just to drag his brother to the couch. Why the hell did he come here anyways? Soul hadn't seen this bustard in years, and now he decided to show up? Something didn't seem right…
Wes's lips began to twitch automatically, mumbling something in a language Soul didn't know existed. Taking a closer look, Soul noticed that his eyes were still closed. Dreaming? A smirk creeped on Soul's face. He grabbed a glass of water and nearby and proudly flipped it upside down over Wes's head, which caused him to snap his eyes open and spring upright screaming like a maniac, dripping with water.
"Always wanted to do that!" Soul laughed.
Still In shock, Wes scanned the room, and sighed in relief. "I just had the craziest dream…" He pressed his hand to his forehead, as if trying to calm himself down.
Maka pocked her head from the other room, "Soul, do you have a spare blanket for Max?"
"Sure, just take mine."
"Thanks!" She ran to his room. Soul turned back to see the puzzled look on Wes's face. "Max?" He asked, not sure what else to say.
"Yeah. The kid that you saw earlier."
The older brother clutched his head, "Dear mother of pearl! It wasn't a dream!" He screamed and pulled at his hair, "What would Mother and Father say? How do I inform them? This is a catastrophe!" He kept going, blabbering nonsense Soul hardly understood.
Soul's sweat dropped, "You… You okay?" He started to wonder if his brother had bumped his head.
Wes napped his head to glare at him, and suddenly grabbed Soul's shoulders. "Soul!" He called in the most dramatic voice. "I'm so ashamed of you! How could you be so foolish? Do you have any idea how Mother and Father will react to this? And what's worse? You were hiding it all this time! You have better be taking responsibility for your actions!"
Soul felt like he was flouting in space, not realizing where he was headed. He finally snapped out of it when his brother, who was holding him by the shoulders like a ragdoll, shook him violently, hoping it would somehow shake out some answers.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Soul growled.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. Don't act like you don't know!" The older brother yelled in anger. "How could you get a girl pregnant at such a young age? And do you have any idea how it feels to suddenly know that I'm an uncle? And that my little brother is a father!"
…eh?
Nothing made sense anymore. Him? Father? Soul puzzled the situation then realized what his idiot brother had meant. Soul slapped himself in the face from the stupidity of it all.
Wes sighed loudly, "What a relief." He sunk back in the couch. "How long will you be watching over him?"
"Not sure… probably as soon as we find his parents." Soul explained.
"Well, that's not good." Wes folded his arms behind his head, "Mother and Father want to have a chat with you back home. You think we should take him with us -"
"Not happening." Soul quickly cut him off. "This is way they sent you here? To take me back?"
Wes sighed, "Soul, they don't want to take you back, they just want to talk."
"And I don't want to talk." Soul raised his voice.
"Soul, they haven't seen you in years."
"And now they suddenly care?"
"Soul, just give them a chance."
The sound of Max vomiting distracted Soul from his Brother. "Go home. I have more important things to worry about." With that, Soul got up and headed to where Max was.
Wes raised an eyebrow. "Interesting," he whispered to himself.
As soon as Soul entered the room, he knew the situation was not good. Max was panting heavily with sweat running down his pale face. It looked like Maka was doing her best to keep him comfortable. Wrapping him up in blankets and constantly offering him water.
"Soul, he's getting worse. He needs a doctor."
Soul picked up a nearby hone, "I'll call Dr. Stein." He dialed the numbers and waited. He saw Wes take a seat, observing him.
"Yes?" Stein answered.
"Stein, the kid's sick. Could you help us out?" Soul asked. He heard some cursing coming from Mo from the background… Something that sounded similar to 'damn you humans'.
"I'm afraid I can't."
Soul raised an eyebrow, "What? Why?"
"Well, you see," Stein searched for an easy way to explain. "I'm in a sticky situation at the moment."
Earlier, Stein had tried multiple ways to remove the object from Mo's leg, but with no success. Then he tried using chemicals to hopefully melt it off, but it turned out someone had labeled the chemical samples incorrectly. As soon as Stein applied a drop of whatever was in the chemical glass on to Mo's leg, the drop exploded into a web of green goo, gluing Stein and Mo to the desk. Stein managed to hold on to his phone with his only free hand.
"Human, get me out of here!" Mo screamed, but couldn't do anything else while his whole body was stuck to the desk.
"I'll call you back later." Stein's thumb reached for the off button, only to have his phone slip from his hands.
Soul paused for a few seconds. He sighed and placed the phone back. He noticed Maka was staring in horror. She mistake read the excretion on his face while he was on the phone.
"Soul?"
Soul sighed, "He's not coming."
He could see the frown on her face deepen. Max shifted upright tiredly, pushing off the blankets. Maka was about to push him back on the couch, until she realized why he had gotten up. She quickly grabbed the bucket next to her and leaned it to him. He grabbed the sides and started vomiting.
Soul felt guilty for not being helpful at all. He turned to his older brother. "Wes, can you drive us to the hospital?" As much as he hated asking for favors from his brother, he had no choice. Of course he could use his motorbike to get them there, but how the hell is he supposed to drive while the kid can't even hold on?
Wes stared at him for a moment, but then smirked.
Shit… what is he planning?
"Well, I could do that, but I have a better plan…" Wes said. He leaned in towered a confused Maka. "Lend me your ear for a second, if you don't mind."
Maka nodded and she allowed him to whisper something to her which made Soul feel uncomfortable in the stomach. Maka's face brightened up. Wes leaned back. "Well, Miss? What do you think?"
Maka nodded to him and turned to Soul.
"Well, little brother," Wes started, "what do you say? We all go visit Mother and Father?"
You

Kidding
Soul felt his blood freeze.
"Uncle Ben's a doctor, and I think Mother and Father would be delighted to meet this young lady here." Wes's smile grow, and so did Soul's anger.
"Oh, and by the way," Wes continued, "The driver will be arriving in a few minutes."
That bartered…
