Lost Keys
Chapter 17
"Come on, Soul – cheer up," Wes said, annoyed by how grumpy Soul was through the whole ride, "it's been years since they last saw you, they've changed."
In the back seat, Soul had his arms folded and his red eyes looked like they were saying 'I'm going to kill you'. Next to him was Maka, who had Max wrapped up in a blanket on her lap. His feet were on Soul's lap, but the weapon didn't mind, the kid was sick after all.
"Why?" Soul asked halfheartedly.
"Huh?" Wes looked over his shoulder for a better look.
"Why do they want me all of a sudden?"
"Well, it's just a family visit –"
"Family visit –My ass! Something's up and you're not telling me everything." Soul growled in frustration.
"Temper, temper, you'll see when we get there." Wes smiled and laughed a little.
"Driver," Soul called, "can't you just turn around and take us to a hospital?"
"I'm sorry sir, but I only take orders from Mr. & Mrs. Evans."
Wes laughed, "Sorry Soul, I promised them I would bring you over."
Soul felt like a volcano inside him was about to erupt. They forced him to play the fucking piano, but ignored him and supported his older brother instead. They scolded him if he missed a note while playing, but didn't appreciate all his efforts, even when he played all the notes correctly. They only cared about their reputation, nothing else mattered to them.
He finally managed to get away from them, finally escaping using his weapon form as an excuse. They probably had forgotten all about him, and after years, they suddenly want him back? They're up to something… and it's definitely not just a family visit.
"We're here." Wes said.
Make's eyes widened when she looked through the window. The house was huge, with a big garden, a beautiful fountain, and music that seemed to be coming from inside the house. It was like a castle. Something every little girl dreamed of. And this used to be Soul's home? As soon as they walked in, Maka was overwhelmed. Holding Max in her arms, she took in the beauty of the house. Golden tiles, big chandeliers, and the long room that was filled with people dressed in fancy clothes, musicians preforming, guests having expensive drinks, and gourmet foods made especially for those people.
"What's with the party?" Soul asked his bigger brother.
"Oh, just a party." Wes said simply with a smile.
"Is that who I think it is?" A woman from the crowd called.
"He does look familiar."
"Isn't that Wes's younger brother?"
"I thought he had given up on music a long time ago."
Soul's sweat dropped. They stared to gather. Soul suddenly felt like it was harder to breath. At first, they came because of their curiosity, but the expressions on their faces flipped. Confused, Soul only managed to hear whispers, but that only confused him even more.
"Oh my goodness, is that what I think it is?"
"Is that why he decided to leave?"
Soul felt cornered. What the hell did these monsters what?
"Soul…" Maka whispered desperately. She also looked completely stuck in the situation. Out of the crowd, a woman wearing a silky red dress with a pearl necklace and earrings somehow squeezed herself through.
"Sweetheart! You finally made it!" She tackled poor Soul and planted a few kisses on his whole face, smudging lipstick all over. "You've grown so much!" She cheered. "I – oh… oh my." She finally saw how his face looked after her lips had attacked his poor face. "I'm sorry – let me fix that, honey." She pulled out a napkin, tapped the tip of her tongue to it before holding his chin and started whipping the kiss marks on his face as he struggled to get away.
"Mom, s-stop! Knock it off!"
Maka couldn't help but giggle, which brought the woman's attention. The white haired woman released Soul and turned to Maka. "And who might you be? Oh, this is so embarrassing! If I would've known my little boy was going to bring his friend over I would have –" She stopped when she spotted the sick child in Maka's arms. Her smile suddenly faded in an instant.
"M…may I speak to you upstairs?" She asked nervously.
Wes patted Soul's shoulder, "Good luck."
"Mom…?" Sitting on a fancy red couch, Soul watched his red-eyed mother pace around the room while laughing hysterically.
"Haha… An- and I said that's not a hate, it's a raccoon! Hahaa! Oh, the good old says!" She continued laughed while Soul and Maka felt like sinking into the couch to hide. What the hell had possessed his mother?
"I just love strawberries, do you kids like strawberries?"
She suddenly got so close to their faces they almost stopped breathing. "Oh- and speaking of strawberries!" She got up and sliced some cake and brought it up to them. As she handed them over, they noticed how her hands were shaking while holding the plates. "Strawberry cake! Go on – have some!" Maka and Soul looked at each other for a moment before taking the plates.
"Oh, where are my manners? Hold on – let me get you some tea! No, no, no, you can never have cake without some relaxing tea! With cream or honey, dear?"
Maka hesitated before answering, "H… honey, please?" she wasn't even sure what she wanted, so she just replayed randomly.
"Excellent choice, dear!"
"M… Mom, you okay? " Soul stared sweating badly. This maniac mother scared the life out of him.
"No!" She cheered with a scary smile while pouring the tea in a flower pot.
"Mom, please, just site down…" Soul tried to calm her down, it worked… somewhat.
She sat down on the couch in front of them and crossed her legs, still eyeing them like a hawk with a huge smile.
"I was supposed to tell you something important, but I completely forgot what it was. You know how that happens, right? When you try to keep something locked in your memory, but it suddenly disappears when you try to remember. Hahahaaa!"
"Mom, relax… you're starting to get scary."
His mother breathed in and out slowly, an attempt to meditate. "I'm very sorry. I guess I don't know what I'm feeling right now." She rubbed her head, "Soul, honey, you know I've always wanted grandchildren, and you have a handsome boy, but don't you think this is too early?"
Soul scratched his head, "I … wait – what?"
"Oh, now I get it. I understand this wasn't intentional, and I'm very glad that you're taking responsibility for your actions. Honestly, I would have like it if you were to respect both you and your lover's body before acting out, but I'm happy that you managed to raise a lovely child and support your lover through – "
"Wha- Stop! Hold it!" Soul managed to stop her before she damages his brain even more.
"What's with all the commotion?" a male's voice came from behind. A tale man in a black tuxedo stopped when he saw Soul. "Son, nobody told me you had arrived. I never thought you would actually come over –" he blinked repeatedly, trying to figure out wither he was dreaming or just hallucinating.
"Honey… is it just me? Or is there a young lady holding a mini sized version of my son?" He pointed at Maka with a shaky finger.
"Can you believe it, darling? My baby Soul has had a baby of his own for years! Isn't this great, darling? His son is absolutely adorable! And his lover is gorgeous as well!"
Knocking on the door, the new maid had just brought some muffins that Mrs. Evans had ordered her to get after hearing Soul's arrival. This maid was still a newbie, and already screwed up a lot in just one day. From spilling drinks and breaking plates, to accidentally arranging Mrs. Evans's underclothing in Wes's clothing drawers in his room, which she thought was Mrs. Evans's.
But not this time... She will not screw up this time. Just give them the muffins and leave. Easy!
She took a deep breath and opened the door, "I brought the muffins–!" She suddenly gasped, dropping the muffins.
"YOU FILTHY LEECH! JUST WAIT TILL I GET MY HANDS ON YOU!" The man had cornered Soul into a corner, if it wasn't for Soul's mother holding the man back, who knows what would have happened. The couch Maka and Soul were sitting on was flipped upside down, and the poor Meister was standing next to Soul's mother, screaming at the man to leave Soul alone while holding a child that suspiciously resembled both Soul and Maka. The maid felt like the whole world stopped spinning in those few seconds.
"Calm down, old man – just let me explain!" Soul tried to control the satiation, but it was no use.
The man snapped his neck to look at the frozen maid.
"AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? GET OUT!" He screamed before the poor maid quickly apologized and fled.
The maid breathed out and leaned against the wall, "I'm so fired…"
