Runa sat back languidly knowing that she would not have to wait long, one of them would break and considering that it looked like an attack on the originals she was betting on Kol speaking first. Correct again she mused as Kol opened his mouth to talk.
"You see Lia" Kol started mischievously "they were plotting to kill us, we found out and confronted them" he finished almost laughing at the thought of these children hurting him. Runa however was shocked. Her head snapped around to look at the Salvatore's eyes narrowed into slits.
"You were doing what little saviour?" she questioned staring at him intently as if trying to read his mind. Damon was shrinking back before deciding that he had good reason to try to kill them. "Nana, it's not like the idea came from nowhere, they've been wreaking havoc on our lives for a year!" he exclaimed, Stefan jumped in too "Klaus killed Elena's Aunt, then Elena herself. Elijah betrayed us" he continued for his brother.
The Mikaelson trio glanced at each other almost warily, before Runa spoke up cautiously "is that what you call 'wreaking havoc'?" she asked somewhat incredulously "I mean it wasn't nice of them to do but it's not even close to any of them at their worst. "I mean Kol was daggered for multiple reasons, one of which is he compelled the helmsman of the Titanic to carry on and hit the iceberg instead of going around it…that is wreaking havoc" she said rolling her eyes at Kol who was grinning.
Damon and Stefan looked at Kol with new eyes, thinking that maybe they got off lightly. "Wait you killed over one and a half thousand people in one day?!" Stefan demanded outraged with the youngest original who dismissed his question with a proud grin. Damon just stared wide eyed at him wondering how he didn't feel the guilt of all those deaths.
"We're getting off subject, being the originals we are not able to be killed, how were you planning to accomplish this?" she got back on the topic of killing her family.
"We thought about using a witch, or finding a white oak stake" Damon mumbled almost hoping she wouldn't hear he was not that lucky though. "Oh little saviour" she sighed disappointed in her young vampire who looked down ashamed at being the subject of her disappointment, it was not a fun place to be. "I was doing it for Elena, she deserves to be safe from Klaus…I love her" he trailed off hoping to gain her sympathy, that was destroyed when Klaus spoke up.
"Don't leave out all the details mate, you linked us together so that when one dies we all die" his voice was smug having outed Damon's secret. Runa rose and walked to crouch by her little saviour.
"Look at me" she demanded, when he refused she grabbed his chin and pulled him up so their eyes met "Day are you aware that as originals we are the originators of the vampire race and as such when we are killed our sire line dies with us?" he nodded "so you would sentence tens of thousands of vampires to death?" she continued her questioning this time he looked conflicted.
Stefan intervened feeling it unfair that his brother was taking all the blame "we wanted Elena and the rest of Mystic Falls to be safe" he stated but Runa had then heard enough, she stood back up and started pacing before coming to a halt. "Damon I thought you got over the whole 'the woman I love is more important than anyone and everything' I'm truly disappointed that you've reverted to your former ways" Damon looked at her sadly but couldn't really feel bad for what he had been planning.
"Let's move on, you two and your merry band of friends will not be killing my family or you all will face the consequences" she spoke dangerously "I'm leaving, darling" she turned to Kol "would you give me a ride to the mansion? I wish to see Bekah and Eli" he held out his hand in response which she grabbed. They turned and left the room "Niklaus are you coming? We have things to discuss" Klaus followed them immediately, wanting to move on from the anger she felt towards him.
The Salvatore's stood up and went after them, Damon felt devastated. He knew that he disappointed most of the people in his life but his Nana was the exception, it made him feel sick to think they may not be okay anymore.
As the Original's made their way to the door they noticed a small crowd of people in the parlour. The brothers instantly recognising the Scooby gang. "Nana wait!" Damon called after her uncaring that they would all see him in a vulnerable position, she was worth it. "I apologise for disappointing you, I assure you that I will make this up to you" he promised, the people in the room looked beyond shocked at his outburst.
Runa nodded at him and looked around slowly taking in the new faces. "Are we doing introductions? Or are we leaving?" she asked lightly, Bonnie turned to the group and gestured to them "This is Tyler, Caroline's boyfriend and a hybrid, Jeremy, Elena's brother, Matt is a friend and they are both human. We're missing the resident hunter" she finished. Runa glanced warily at them "hunter?" before turning to Stefan "you're friends with a hunter?" she questioned incredulously.
"He's best friends with Damon" Stefan replied, while said vampire glared at him "tattletale" he snarled at his baby brother who grinned unrepentantly. "Your best friend is a hunter?" she asked Damon with a raised brow, as he was about to respond the door opened "why does everyone just walk into my house?" he wondered aloud.
Alaric walked in slowing down when he saw the originals before noticing the newcomer "Runa?" he asked stunned, she turned to the newcomer "Ric?" she questioned back very surprised to see him.
Everyone stood confused at the two people who were just staring at each other. Klaus fed up with him looking at Runa "how do you know my wife?" he asked threateningly this was soon overshadowed by the uproar of people basically just saying 'wife?!' "Yes my wife, let it go".
"You're married?" Ric asked as Klaus turned to answer he realised that he was talking to Runa who had taken a small step towards him. "Yeah" she answered simply "we weren't together when you and I met" Klaus was boring holes into the back of her head wanting answers. "How do you know the hunter?" he demanded grabbing her wrist, "we met years ago when I was trying out University" she spoke soothingly and watched how he relaxed.
Caroline took a step forward "so you trying to woo me was what?" she asked viciously. Runa glance towards the blonde before staring at her husband who rolled his eyes "you know our rules" he said to her before turning to the baby vampire he had been trying to get. "It was just to try and sleep with you, don't be so naïve. I love my wife." He said the last part to Runa who was fighting a smile, he counted that as a victory.
"Really? So you buying me a beautiful ball gown, giving me the diamond bracelet you stole from a queen and offering to show me the world was a way to sleep with me" she said doubtfully not realising how much trouble she just got him in. He glared at her briefly before turning to his enraged wife "oh Nik you've done it now" Kol laughed at him. "Shut up brother before I put you down" he growled at him.
Runa took a small step so she was in front of her baby brother "don't threaten my darling, there will be no more threatening our sibling with those abominable daggers. As for Barbie, I cannot believe you gave her my bracelet" she spoke bitterly any thoughts of reconciliation at the moment were gone. "We were leaving" she reminded Kol moving towards him before once again being stopped this time by Elena.
"What are you doing here?" she demanded not liking how everyone seemed to be fine with this random person coming into their lives. "Watch your tone doppelganger, I came here to see my family. You are nothing to me and don't think that your blood being useful to him" she gestured to Klaus "will prevent me from killing you." Runa glared just wanting to get out and see the rest of her family.
"So it's okay for you to kill the person I love but I can't kill Klaus" Damon asked aggressively, making Kol step towards him "mind yourself mate, you talk to her like that again and I will tear you apart" he threatened his nemesis with chilling smile.
"Leave it darling, I've got this" she smiled gratefully at Kol before turning to her protégé. "We have been in love for a thousand years. Your love for Elena is both admirable and pathetic." Elena looked insulted while Kol laughed at the doppelgangers face. Runa continued "you could not hope to grasp the depth of devotion that comes from knowing someone that long, the level of trust you have in them. The fact that you think your love for Elena someone you've known for 3 years is in any way comparable to spending a millennia loving him is insulting." She spat out acerbically, Damon deflated a little "While we're talking about it how dare you try to turn my family against each-other the loyalty that comes with being part of this family is beyond your comprehension! No matter the faults we stay united always" she grabbed Kol and Klaus before turning to leave.
"He's a monster" Tyler spoke for the first time, thinking back on all Klaus had done to them. This only enraged the new original further as she turned with her eyes lit with anger.
"You call him a monster, but like Elena with Damon and Stefan I see the good. Stefan you slaughtered villages, killed countless people, and Damon while not nearly as bad as Stefan you are not a saint" the Salvatore brothers looked down for once thinking about the reasons behind trying to kill the Originals.
Runa turned her ire to Elena "Neither of them are good just because they've stopped killing for now. Niklaus killed your aunt but how many aunts have your two lovers killed?" she asked rhetorically before smiling maliciously at the blonde baby vampire "even little Caroline killed that boy who was no doubt someone's son or brother. Their family" she stated.
"Niklaus has always been ruthless but you have only known him at his worst when he was so driven to break a curse his mother put on him that he was blinded to everything he was doing. You have not seen him in the centuries previously when he would drain criminals especially child abusers. Or spend hours on end wracked with guilt over killing his mother and hurting his siblings. I do not condone all of his actions but will you be any better once you've lived as long as we have?" the question hung in the air unsettling them all.
Unrelenting and wanting to get this over with so she could leave Runa carried on "what true reasons do you have to call a man you barely know let alone understand a monster? What gives you the right to go after our family just because they could potentially be a threat?! Why because Rebekah was looking for companionship and you stabbed her in the back, used her. Elijah because he betrayed you when he was meant to kill my husband?" She laughed derisively at the thought.
"Would you Stefan ever actually kill Damon? Or under what circumstances would you Elena kill your brother if there was another option? Huh? Damon? Would you kill Stefan? You all would betray everyone for your family because in the end no matter if you are a human or vampire, family is forever" she finished softly as the Original brothers stepped up behind her, in a show of solidarity.
"Like I said before you couldn't comprehend the depth of the devotion we feel for our family until you have lived as long as us, when it is only your family that survives all, we are all we have left. Forever and always. You wonder why I stand beside him and you don't understand why I would never let you murder Niklaus?" She asked incredulously. "My family! 1000 years is a long time do you really think I could ever find it in myself no matter his faults and the bad he's done to just let you kill him? It would be reprehensible! Imagine the pain that would come from having someone you've known, loved, hated, and shared every emotion, almost every memory with die? You would be crippled by the sheer force of it" with those final words she took the Original's hands, ignoring Damon's attempt to catch her eye and walked out leaving those behind to for once truly think about their actions.
