Hi, so here is another chapter and I hope you enjoy it. There are only four more chapters left of this story so please stay tuned as we get through to the end of it.

So this was fun to write and for once I actually took dialogue from the book so there will be some lines from Breaking Dawn in the next couple of chapters at least while the Cullen's are fighting the Volturi.

This chapter is in Emmett's point of view, I think the next one will be as well and then we switch to Rosalie's for another one and then one each for the final chapters. At least that's how I've planned it out.

Disclaimer-Nothing here is mine.

Please Read and Review.

This will probably be more book related than film related so that dream/vision thing that Alice did in the film is not gonna happen here.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

Chapter 24-A View To Kill

The Volturi are here, explanations are given and a battle line is crossed as Emmett stands with Edward against the full wrath of Italy and the vampire world.

"Every time I close my eyes, It's like a dark paradise. No one compares to you, I'm scared that you won't be waiting on the other side. Every time I close my eyes, it's like a dark paradise. No one compares to you, but there's no you, except in my dreams tonight. Oh-oh-oh-oh-hah-hah-hah-hah. I don't want to wake up from this tonight" Lana Del Rey, Dark Paradise.

They were regal in their destruction. Everything so perfectly planned and yet…yet Emmett thought that he could see the nerves flickering between the guard. They had not expected this much resistance. They had not expected any kind of push back and he shot a look at his sister in law and wondered just how much skin Bella had in the game. If she was able to block the offense and the defence…if she could project her shield…then they were in for one hell of a fairer fight.

He eyed the line watching.

It wasn't hard to find the one he was looking for. Edward was watching him too.

Felix.

It was obvious by Edward's description that it was him. He was easily the biggest, the tallest and the one that was built for destruction. Emmett staring at him clinically took in their same built and height and started assessing weak points.

He had time after all. Felix had not even noticed him looking.

No. His attention was on other things.

He seemed torn between looking at Rosalie and looking at Bella like a cat that had been given two very nice portions of cream and didn't know which one to start first. Emmett had a very wonderful vision of smacking his head into a rock until It parted from his neck and from the twist in Edward's lips that might have been a smile he knew that his brother had picked up on the murderous imagery that was floating around his head.

Hell probably agreed with him.

Edward was now smirking.

Yeah. Really agreed with him.

They stopped walking some distance off and Emmett threw his head back in the game.

Aro was going to have to make a speech. It was now or never and he scanned the line looking for weaknesses. Clearly he would have to be the one take Felix if it came to a fight. Clearly he was going to have to take down the biggest and the most physical of the vampires. Leave the ones with gifts to go after the ones with gifts. Emmett was perfectly happy letting it come down to a test of brute strength. He thought maybe he would be good enough to do it as well. Granted he didn't know what the point of someone like Felix was when you had Jane but if he could take out Felix that was one less that he had to worry about.

And seriously if the fucker so much as looked at his wife in that way again Emmett was going to march across the field and gouge his eyes out of his sockets with his thumb.

Edward said nothing for a second and then he began to speak and the reason why Aro was looking distinctly unruffled revealed itself.

"They're worried about the faces they don't recognize – Zafrina and Senna in particular – and the wolves, naturally. They've never been outnumbered before."

"They don't count their witnesses" Edward continued at Tanya's exclamation. His lips twisted as if he was finding something rather amusing but it was a far cry from Edward's usual amused look.

"They are nonentities, meaningless to the guard. Aro just enjoys an audience."

Emmett tried very hard not to snort.

Carlisle turned his head his hand in his wife's and looked at Edward.

"Should I speak?"

How Carlisle could remain so calm was beyond Emmett. If he had a beating heart he was sure that he would be in a hospital with how fast it would be beating. Next to Carlisle, Esme looked very much the same that Emmett felt. He couldn't blame her. Now it was upon them, reality it was hard to think of anything else.

Edward nodded.

"This is the only chance you'll get."

And so Emmett watched as his father walked into no-man's land. Esme standing on her own behind him her face twisted like she was going to cry and Emmett suddenly felt a lick of fury wash down his back so potent if it was not for Rosalie's arm wrapped tightly around his own he would have snarled.

Those fuckers had made his Mom cry.

He pulled his head out of his thought process and back into the game just as his father stepped forwards and began the long process of getting the Volturi to listen.

Well…if anyone could he supposed it would be Carlisle.

Emmett didn't know about the politics of the vampire world. He was not Edward, he had not bothered to learn about the intricacies anymore than he had bothered with the human world (they didn't vote, after all they were all technically buried under gravestones) but he knew that Aro had an audience and was playing to it and he knew that Caius (the sneering blonde whose face seemed almost made to be punched in) was not impressed by it. It was also clear to see that despite the way that Aro acted, soft spoken and controlled and calm and the way Caius was the exact opposite, it was Aro that was in charge.

And then Caius dragged forwards Irina.

Emmett couldn't stop the hiss that came out of his tightly clenched teeth. Next to him his wife was so stiff she would have done herself serious damage if she was human. They were both locked and loaded, gazes on the woman who had caused all of this with her actions and Emmett didn't need any kind of gift to know that he and his wife were on the same side in this.

He didn't even need to look to know what her thoughts on this were. He knew Rosalie. She did not have to speak her mind for him to know what she was thinking and it was the same thing that he was thinking.

Let the bitch burn.

It might be uncharitable, it might be unkind, certainly it was not something he would ever dare to mention in front of Tanya or Kate and certainly not in front of Carlisle or Esme but he couldn't stop himself from saying it even if it was to his wife in the privacy of their own embrace. He could not stop himself from thinking it either. If the stupid…if she'd just listened all of this could have been avoided. If she had just come to see Carlisle then all of this could have been handled with more care and Irina would have known…and to be honest she had been a part of Carlisle's and Esme's lives before Emmett had been, there was no excuse for that betrayal. He might not have understood until this moment, the true taboo of the immortal children but he understood family and he understood friendship. Call him a simple man but that was all that mattered to him. That had been the bread and the butter on what he had been raised on.

So yeah, he thought viciously as he looked at Irina cowering as the force of her mistake crashed down on her.

Let the bitch burn.

But then Aro was still speaking and it was clear that he was not satisfied with Carlisle's explanation. He wanted more.

That seemed to be Aro's mentality, more, more, more.

Greedy little shit.

He wanted Edward.

Like hell. Emmett thought turning his head to his brother as Bella shifted her grip on Renesmee tightening to the point where the little girl must be struggling but mercifully kept silent. Like hell Edward you don't have to go over there.

Edward didn't even acknowledge that he had heard the thoughts. Carlisle turned around his gaze flickering to his son and then back to his wife as if it was taking all of his considerable strength not to defend Edward, to stop him from coming over. Emmett made a half step to join but Rosalie's grip on his arm was suddenly so tight that he couldn't move.

Edward kissed his wife, kissed his daughter and caught Emmett's eye. For a heartbeat the two brothers stared at each other and then Edward winked and then he was gone. Emmett blinked, if you asked him he didn't think there was anything about this situation that was worthy of winking but then again he didn't know half of what went through Edward's head some of these days.

He turned but as he did something caught his eye.

Bella.

Who was smiling.

In fact not just smiling but full on beaming and then full on laughing.

Oh God that was just all they needed. Bella fucking snapping. Emmett didn't have the strength to stop her and Felix. Actually if he was banking his bets on that fight he was backing his sister all the way.

Jane, the demonic little blonde was watching Bella and she snarled. Bella looked nothing short of gleeful. There was something there that Emmett didn't get but it was like Bella always the quiet human girl was finally coming into her own as a vampire. It was as if the confidence that she'd had when she had gone after Edward, when she had convinced him to sleep with her despite all the risk, when she had carried Nessie to term despite all the odds stacked against her, had finally come out.

Huh.

Edward and Bella. Emmett and Rosalie. Jasper and Alice. Carlisle and Esme. There was nothing the Cullen men found more sexier than a strong confident woman.

And there Edward was, in no-man's land and there was nothing that they could do to stop it. Emmett gnashed his teeth together watching as Aro read his brother's thoughts. Felix leered in Rosalie's direction again and this time out of the corner of his eye Emmett saw Carlisle raise a very pointed eyebrow and he had to suddenly stifle the urge to grin. Whatever had transpired between his wife and Carlisle the night before had only made their relationship stronger and it was becoming apparent that if Felix took so much as a clear step across the clearing it might not be Emmett who got to him first.

But while Aro was engrossed with Edward it was Caius that Emmett found himself looking at. The look he was shooting Jacob and the rest of the wolves from Sam at the oldest to the smallest one who looked no bigger than a puppy was something that even to Emmett raised concern. This was fear mingled in with hatred and God only knows what else and he shifted a little running down the line of wolves.

Sam Uley seemed to know that Emmett was looking for him and he turned his muzzle. Emmett jerked his head and the big dog turned taking Caius and his malevolent glare in one swoop of dark eyes and fur. The muzzle nodded up and down as if Sam Uley was saying that he too saw the expression on the vampires face and that this one was the one to watch and Emmett nodded.

And here they had once thought they couldn't work together.

Those were the days.

Caius watching the wolves saw Sam snap a little and his head reared backwards eyes wide. He was afraid Emmett realised. He was afraid of the wolves.

Interesting.

But then he saw Aro let go of Edwards hand.

Head in the game McCarty

"You have given me much to ponder, young friend," the dark-haired vampire continued and Emmett saw defeat in Edward's shoulders and for the love of all that was good in the world he couldn't understand why. He couldn't understand why because Aro was acting as if he believed Edward, as if he finally understood that Nessie was half-human, half-vampire and not an immortal child. It was what they had wanted for so long. So what was the problem?

But Rosalie let out a soft gasp and her eyes turned butterscotch bleeding to look at Nessie and Emmett realised that she knew what was going on. For the life of him he did not understand why but he knew what was going on before anyone else did. He turned to look at his wife his brow furrowed in confusion but before he could…

"May I meet her?"

OH HELL NO.

"I never dreamed of the existence of such a thing in all my centuries. What an addition to our histories!"

Emmett watched. Rosalie let go of his hand and he grabbed it back praying she had not let go just so she could prepare to spring.

"Will you introduce me to your daughter?"

Edward very slowly nodded as if he wished that he could be doing anything else and then he tilted his head to the side. It took Emmett another heartbeat of time to realise that he and Aro were having some one sided conversation that nobody else could see and he saw to his concern that Caius, Felix, Jane, that drippy shield woman that Eleazer had mentioned once, the other woman Chelsea who kept them all as slaves (standing next to Heidi and both of them decked out—to quote his common tongued mother—like a couple of street whores ready for payment)…they didn't like it.

So control was an issue then.

Interesting.

Emmett would full admit he was not the smartest man in the room but he thought he was picking up a great deal on the inner workings of the Volturi just by looking at them. So secure were they in their superiority they failed to realise that they were bleeding insecurity to every vampire around them both their witnesses and the people they had condemned. They were showing that they were fractured with Caius still holding Irina by the upper arm, Marcus looking as if he was watching paint dry and Aro clearly running the show. Couple it with the fact that little demonic Jane looked like she was inches away from launching herself towards Bella like some demonic vampire missile and it was a poor showing of unity and control.

Yes Emmett might not be the smartest man in the room, but he thought that he had understood much of was happening her today and quite a bit more that was being unsaid. It was all fascinating and yet repellent to watch. The whole thing made him feel like he was watching something dirty.

He watched as Aro turned around his arm around Edward's shoulder and they came back together Aro brushed aside his shield with another wave and she fell back looking as if he had ripped her heart out of her chest. Rosalie next to him shifted and Emmett didn't have to look to know that her beautiful face was probably twisted into a very ugly snarl.

He doubted the woman…what was her name…Renata? Would even notice.

Again there was another conversation between the two of them that Emmett watched and then…

"Felix, Demetri"

Emmett didn't so much as look at the other one. His gaze was all on Felix.

Come on Edward he thought with all that he had come on, let me have one shot at the bastard. Pick me, pick me, pick me.

Edward didn't look at him.

Actually come to think of it that was actually quite smart.

"Bella" Edward called. "Bring Renesmee and a few friends"

Before he even managed to turn his head Bella was already responding.

"Jacob, Emmett"

Rosalie next to him went stock still. Jacob growled. Emmett grinned.

Fucking finally.

He ran a hand down Rosalie's blonde hair and cracked his neck to the side passing Esme as he stepped away from his wife and letting his finger touch her elbow in support. Carlisle he didn't look at. He wasn't sure what he would have done if he had looked at either one of his parents in that moment, or if he had really looked at his wife who he had left behind with his soul in her hands.

This was his moment. This was battle cry. It wasn't as fast paced as Jasper's had been but this was Emmett's battle. He didn't have gifts, he didn't have the gifts that Edward, Alice, Jasper, Bella or even Nessie had. All he had was himself.

But this was his battle. This was his moment. This was his battle cry.

He stepped forwards with a clear view to kill.

And he didn't look back.

And there you go, I hope you enjoy and I will do my best to bring you the next chapter as soon as possible. Only four more left.

Next Chapter-Emmett comes face to face with the Volturi for the first time. Aro deliberates. Decisions are made and goodbyes are said before something truly shocking happens.
