Chapter 7: Gerard Garwin

"What-?" Caleb began in utter disbelief, "Reid. Slow down, because you're not making any sense…"

Reid stood at the foot of the stone stairs in the Danver's basement with his three brothers. "I'm telling you. Kayla. Was. Possessed." Reid said, his face was easily readable- which was what sent the other three into a panic. Reid never displayed emotion like this, he was always quick to show anger- but, that was it for his emotional range.

"What do you mean, possessed?" Pogue asked as he leaned forward in his seat.

"Possessed. The- the witch that she's been getting these crazy, like-like flashbacks to-. She- she took over Kayla's body."

"Do you think this was because you guys were in a church?" Caleb asked suddenly getting the whole picture. Tyler had filled he and Pogue in the minute they'd arrived at the house. "If this witch or whatever, is being backed by the power of a demon, then I'm sure going to a church just aggravated it more."

Reid just stared at him, not sure what to say. His concern wasn't arguing at this point. His sole focus was saving Kayla from whatever hold these spirits had over her. "How- how can we help her…?" Reid's voice broke the heavy silence. His three brother's all stared at him not sure where the could begin.

Caleb's eye flashed as a book came soaring over. "There must be something about this in the book." He muttered as it opened before him. Reid watched his eyes scanning over the pages in the book. Reid stood there as his irritation began to grow, "So… what we're just supposed to sit here and watch as you look through the book for answers twiddling our fucking thumbs?"

Caleb's eyes hardened into a glare and shifted to Reid. "Yes. If you want to look through more books tough guy than be my guest. If not then wait while we try to help you."

Reid sighed running a hand through his blonde hair. "Look, man, I know it's tough, but right now… this is what we've got. Unless you wanna go to-."Tyler began

"I don't." Reid cut him off knowing Tyler was going to suggest going to their parents. Reid's relationship with his father was strained ever since the Jake incident- his mother too. He still had a hard time dealing with them lying to him concerning his birthday just because they weren't married.

"O-okay, well let us help you. You know we've got your back." He told him quoting his words from last year to Caleb amidst his 'Chase chaos'. Reid let out a heavy breath and took his seat impatiently waiting as the guys got to work with books.

Reid sat there for about five minutes before he began fidgeting and stood with a, "I'm gonna check on Kayla." And walked upstairs. He pushed the door open and turned right headed across the hall into the sitting room. He'd lain Kayla down on the dark chaise lounge, across from the uncomfortable couch- only to find it empty.

"Uhh… Guys!" He hollered spinning around looking for any sign of her.

The footsteps that he heard coming up the stairs calmed him the slightest bit, "What is it?" Caleb asked coming up first, of course.

"She's gone," Reid said panicking inwardly. "Where could she have-?"

"Looking for me?" The guys jumped as the look to the opposite side of the room. She'd entered in through the kitchen doorway.

"Kay-Kayla?" Reid asked her he eyed her up and down trying to look for any sign that sent alarm bells off in his head. Her little smirk was the only tell-tale sign.

"Hello, boys." Her smirk widened into a grin as her eyes flashed yellow, again.

"Who're you?" Caleb asked his tone not giving away the shock that was running through him.

"Who am I?" Kayla asked with a giggle. "I thought I'd made that rather obvious." She took a step towards the guys, slowly. She turned and walked behind the chaise lounge running her hand along the back of it. "You can call me Adrienne."

"The one from 164-?" Tyler's face held shock- he wasn't as good of a poker player as the rest of the guys.

"Oui, Mon ami." Kayla responded in French- Adrienne's native language.

"I want my girlfriend back." Reid spat out his anger boiling over.

"Oh, mon amant. I'd like to think I am the better, more impressive version of your weak, fragile girlfriend." She answered coming around to the front of the chaise lounge facing off with the four boys.

"Yeah, well I'd say your judgment sucks," Reid replied as his eyes flooded black and Kayla's body was lifted into the air as if hanging from the ceiling by her wrists.

The guys behind him seemed to be on the defensive as well. The room was filled with a thick tension that made it hard to breathe. Kayla- Adrienne hung there as her glare softened and she tossed her head back laughing maniacally.

"You- you all really think you can take me?" She asked still chuckling as her eyes scanned over the boys. "Well, I'm sorry to disappoint." She continued as her eyes flashed a bright yellow color and she dropped from the air, landing on her feet.

"I'm way more powerful than you could even imagine." She began staring at them, hard. "Perks of being dead, I suppose." She flipped her red hair over her shoulder. "You four are just beginning." She said softly. Her eyes flicking from one to the next.

"You two. You've ascended." She said staring at Caleb and Reid who stood side by side. "You're limited in what your powers can do now." A smirk found its way on her lips. "Luckily for me- this body hasn't yet."

"Her birthday is in a week, you've got a time limit, mon amant," Reid said using the name she'd always called him back sarcastically.

Kayla laughed as she moved quickly her arms came up and the four boys went soaring. Each pinned to the walls in the room.

"What do you want?" Caleb groaned out trying to fight her hold on him, unsuccessfully.

"I want life. I want this body. I want this power. I want everything I never got a chance to have." She replied coolly as she moved to Caleb her hand on his chest as she leaned closer to him. "I want something better than what I was given, tell me…" As she spoke she moved up onto her tip-toes and moved so her face was inches from him, "Is that so bad?"

"You had your time." Caleb hissed at her his eyes hardening into a glare. He'd reached within himself to grab at his power to find it locked away just out of reach.

His eyes widened in surprise, "What- what'd you do to me?"

Kayla moved back on to her feet as she moved over to the wall that Tyler and Pogue were pinned to. She spared them a glance her eyes flashing yellow as she passed them. They each felt a chill run through them at that. Her gaze then focused on Reid. His anger was reaching new heights.

"I. Want. My girlfriend back. Now." He said hoping the pause would give his words the oomph behind his threatening tone.

"Unfortunately, I need you to keep your power, mon râleur." She said wearing a smirk as she moved beyond the open doorway into the hall where she'd had Reid pressed against the now-closed basement door. "I've got the most delightful plans for you. I knew your power was familiar to me, and for the life-." She'd stopped and chuckled at her words, "Well, not the life of me, but you get it. I've finally placed it. You're a Garwin." She said. Reid's eyebrows went up as he heard her utter his last name.

"I knew a Garwin." She said softly as her hand caressed the side of his face. "A sweet, sweet man from Ireland. He was my everything the last few days of my life. Mon torturant et mon amour. I loved him."

Reid felt his eyebrows turn down in his confusion. "Gerard. Mon Sauveur. Without him… your dear girlfriend would not be here today. He'd saved my daughter- bought her and my sister safe passage to the new world- to here." Kayla was suddenly in front of him her hand on Reid's chest she moved it down her fingers never leaving his body, as her hand moved down his chest he felt his feet touch the floor, but he was still pressed into the wall.

"You want your girlfriend, Mon amant? Well, I want my love back as well." With that, she leaned up and pressed her mouth to his. Reid let out a shocked noise as Kayla's body was suddenly leaning against his. He didn't like the tricks his mind was playing on him. His girlfriend stood before him and he could feel his body reacting, but his brain was going haywire knowing that Kayla was not the current occupant of it. The kiss was totally different. Kayla's normal confident demeanor was changed for one that was sweet, and loving. Adrienne was less self-assured with her kiss in comparison. Reid didn't like it.

Her hand other hand joined in as it laid flat against his abdomen underneath his long-sleeved shirt. She pulled away slightly her breathing harder than before. Reid saw her eyes flash from the normal blue he loved seeing daily to the yellow warning signs he'd grown accustomed to Adrienne's presence. "I shall have Gerard back if it costs your girlfriend her life," Adrienne promised him, with that her eyes flashed again and she fell to the floor unconscious. Reid and the guys were released from their hold. Reid dropped to scoop up Kayla as he heard the other guys 'thud' to the floor. He carried her back to the sitting room and placed her in the lounge again. The guys gathered around him looking on worried.

"Kayla?" He asked his eyes scanning her over for any injuries. "Kayla? C'mon baby…" He muttered as his hands took hold of her head. He willed her to awaken and after a few moments he heard the sweet sound of her gasping in air and she looked around.

"G-guys?" She asked her voice back to higher in pitch than when she'd been possessed by the spirit of Adrienne, "What happened?" She questioned pushing herself to sit up only to lie back down because of the dizziness that hit her. "Whoa."

"You alright?" Tyler's voice asked from behind Reid.

"You were possessed," Pogue said while Caleb just studied her. His eyebrows knit together in thought.

"Baby, it's so good to hear your voice," Reid told her as he kissed her quickly, relief flooded his words.

"I- I don't understand. How'd we get here? We were just at the church…?" She asked after giving Reid a slight push back. Her confusion was visible, and the guys realized that when she was possessed she had no recollection of anything.

"God, I feel like I've been sleeping for days. This feels great compared to the last several days." Kayla said as the guys began trying to explain things to her. She stood and stretched. "God, I haven't felt this good in weeks."

"Babe," Reid called catching her attention. "You-you were possessed." Kayla paused as if her mind hadn't heard them telling her before.

"Possessed?" She questioned with disbelief. "Riiight." She nodded crossing her arms. "Could it be possible that I've just been so freaking tired that I passed out."

"No." Reid and the guys told her each shaking their heads, "We- we saw you as… Adrienne." Tyler told her.

"Yeah, and let me just say she's a bad ass," Pogue admitted. "What did she do to us, by the way?" He tacked on. "When she looked at us her-her eyes flashed and I felt a chill."

"Yeah…" Tyler agreed sitting next to Pogue on the couch. Kayla stood by the chaise where Reid sat and, Caleb took up the sitting chair.

"I don't know," Caleb answered with a shrug.

"Try your powers," Reid said as Adrienne's statement about not taking his hit him.

"What?" Pogue asked feeling confused.

"Your powers. Try them. I- I think she bound them."

Reid saw as both Pogue and Tyler standing there abnormally focused on nothing in particular, not even the slightest change in their eyes.

"What the hell-?" Pogue said as Tyler's face changed to one of outrage.

"How-?" He began.

"Are you kidding me?" Pogue's anger quick to rear its head. "I- I can't feel it at all." Pogue went on.

"Even if it was simply bound and I couldn't use it I would still feel it. I-I don't feel anything."

"Me neither," Tyler said shell-shocked.

"She- she took them," Reid said bluntly, his eyes met with Caleb. "What about you?"

Caleb shook his head, "I can't use them their bound. I can still feel them, but I can't get to them." Reid's mind raced as to why.

"I think it has to do with us ascending. Our- our powers are connected to our life force- theirs aren't. She can take theirs and leave them living, not ours."

"She didn't even touch yours!" Pogue cried out in outrage.

"Yeah, there's a reason for that." Reid snapped back at him.

"Gerard," Kayla muttered coming up next to him. She took Reid's hand in hers and held it tightly. He nodded in answer.

"Who the hell is Gerard?" Pogue asked.

"He's a Garwin," Reid told them explaining that He was someone in his family line that had had a hand in Adrienne's torture- but, she had been in love with him.

"No way," Tyler said his surprise clear on his face. Pogue just looked tired, and Caleb had some wheels turning in his head. "what is it, Caleb?" Kayla asked him as she sat by her boyfriend.

"I just want to test a theory, "He began as he stood. "I want you to use your powers on me."

The silence that echoed the house was deafening, "Uhhh… what?" Kayla asked feeling like she hadn't heard him right.

"C'mon. Throw me into the wall or something. I don't know. Just use them." He could see Kayla's hesitation so he picked up the nearest thing which was one of his families old knick-knacks, and threw it Kayla's direction. She reacted instantly and deflected it so that it hit the nearest wall however the force behind her power was 2 times what it had been and it went straight through the wall into the kitchen.

"Holy shit," Pogue said as he and Tyler looked up from their heads and saw a hole in the wall.

"Well, I found your powers, guys," Caleb told them as he looked between Kayla, Pogue, and Tyler. Everyone remained silent as Kayla breathed heavily from the power now coursing through her.

Alright, everyone! I know this is shorter than usual, but unfortunately, I've been working a lot more lately and I do need to get some sleep tonight. Thanks for your views, I tried to incorporate some French because I'd assume that someone that lived in France would be pretty fluent in it. However, I am not. I mostly took Spanish all throughout high school, so I apologize if any words were used wrong. Thanks again for reading, and drop a review of what you think of the plot twist.
