We're getting so close to the end! Ah, but how will it end? Only I know.
Yes. Yes, it was a giant ghost badger who immediately jumped after Walker's guard again as soon as it was out of Jazz, dragging him straight through the wall as it caught his leg between its teeth and went intangible with him. Well, then… That part was simplified a lot more than expected.
Jazz coughed a bit but managed to not throw up- as was one of the symptoms from being overshadowed for a long time- and shakily got up, noticing them easily. "Oh my god-" She pulled herself upright, staggering over to the cage. "What happened? Do you know where a key is?" she asked.
"Walker has it," Sam answered, seeming to not trust this just yet. Dani couldn't blame her for that. Why in the hell was a badger there? And, more specifically, why did it seem like the badger had specifically helped them?
"Can you phase through, Dani?" Jazz asked after, clearly trying to think of the best way to get them out of there. Sam spoke again before Dani got a chance to reply, though.
"She can, but she started melting again when she passed out."
"Our guns should be in the next room over, though. I saw a sign on the door saying 'Evidence' when Walker's goons were dragging us up here," Tucker added to it. Dani wasn't sure if she should be grateful they cared enough to be so worried about her or irritated they didn't even want to let her try.
"I can get us out of the cage, guys. I'll just have to conserve elsewhere until we can find some more Ecto-Dejecto."
"No, Dani. We'll find another-" Jazz started objecting again, but Dani didn't listen. She concentrated hard on both keeping herself together and making the cage intangible, ignoring the three of them as they continued trying to argue with her quickly until the bottom of the cage disappeared from beneath them and dumped them on the ground. Or at least, Dani hit the floor. Sam and Tucker tumbled down through it was small shouts of surprise but managed to catch themselves from going entirely through. Or at least, Sam caught herself and had Tucker catch onto her ankle.
Jazz hurried over and helped them both back up through the floor, slightly unnerved. She'd spent a lot less time in the ghost zone and had forgotten humans phased through things. "Are you all okay?"
"Dani, you shouldn't have. Are you alright?" Sam asked quickly. Dani nodded again, panting again. This was bad. She was so much worse this time.
Sam hesitated but nodded a little as well. They had to get out of there.
"We should get our weapons then find the Speeder," Tucker stated. It wasn't something any of them could argue with, so he reached out to help Dani up then (almost surprisingly) led the way to the far wall before peeking his head through it for a moment and pulling back with a shudder. "Man, that feels weird."
"Are they there?" Jazz asked, hoping so. It was clear this was wearing down on all of them. She felt horrible after being overshadowed for so long, Dani was melting, and Sam and Tucker didn't look much better off with bruises forming and open scratches. Naturally they hadn't given in easily, even with Jazz and Dani stuck as hostages. They'd been in worse, though, so they could tough it out.
"Yeah, someone just put them on the table." And with that, he led the way through the wall. They each followed him through, checking for themselves before stepping all the way. Tucker passed a weapon each to Sam and Jazz, keeping the other for himself.
"Now we can defend ourselves, but how the hell are we getting out of here?" Sam asked, knowing they didn't have the time for an elephant in the room.
"You guys came in the Speeder, right?" Jazz asked.
"Yeah, but there's no telling where it's at now."
"You didn't lock it down to prevent them from driving it?"
Sam and Tucker looked at each other then back at her. Obviously they didn't know they could do that.
"Well... who knows this place best?"
"Sam had to come through here with Danny to save our class before," Tucker volunteered.
"I can try getting us out, but we need something to get to a Portal."
Damn, they were at a predicament. They couldn't just go around the building. They were bound to get in a fight and have all the guards on them. Dani supposed maybe she could- Who the hell was shouting? Without any prompting, Dani stepped over to the door and stuck her head through. At least here she didn't have to worry about using her powers when in human form in the Ghost Zone. The sight was a good one for once as she told the others when stepping back in. "Well, all the guards just went up either end of the hall chasing that giant badger and ole' Boxy. Let's just try to sneak it for now."
It wasn't a solid plan, but it was more of a plan than they'd had. Dani quickly went to the wall opposite the one they'd come through, checking the next room first before going on through. If they could at least figure out what floor they were on, they could be better off, so Dani carefully led them through until she stuck her head through the outside wall. Top floor still, so they hadn't been dragged too far from where the Speeder originally was. She went back through to tell the others.
"We're on the top floor. Any ideas where he might've put a vehicle?"
Sam thought for a moment. "Maybe the chamber where he had all our classmates in suspended animation at? It would be big enough and is blocked from ghosts."
"It's worth a shot. Where is it at?"
"Big room on the second floor, somewhere above the cells."
Dani nodded and continued to lead as they got moving again towards that, peeking down through the floor before jumping downwards. Easier than going into the hall and trying to take the stairs. She knew she should be going easier on herself than she was, physically, but it wasn't taking an overly drastic amount of energy to keep herself together at the moment since she wasn't using any of her powers. Amazingly enough, they both found the room and the Speeder was there. Sam hurried over to unlock it, ready to fire at any moment in case any ghost showed up.
It felt way too easy as they managed to get into the Speeder, Sam starting it up and driving them out the best they could. The ease of it was explained a bit better at seeing the lunchyard as they passed over it, though. Any prisoners Walker had locked up had been let loose somehow with guards fighting everywhere and about ten ghosts fighting Walker himself in the middle of it all. From the passenger seat, Dani could see the white ghost notice them… And get shoved to the bottom of a pile-on in his moment of distraction before he could go after them.
When they got out of view of the jailhouse, however, Sam stopped the Speeder in its tracks, looking straight at Jazz.
"Who was the ghost Danny was fighting when you first found out about his powers?" Jazz looked confused for a moment before understanding and answering.
"Spectra and Bertrand during Spirit Week." Sam nodded and looked to Tucker who spouted off a random fact before she even had to ask. Jazz then asked Sam a question in return and almost asked Dani one but thought better of it. Dani could guess why. She felt horrible, and she doubted any ghost would want to even try overshadowing her when she was like this. Not that the others knew it yet, either, but she was incredibly resistant to overshadowing which had surprised even her when she discovered it. She supposed it was in her making, though. Once everyone was satisfied with that, Sam got them moving again. The trip back to Amity Park in the human world would take forever, but it would be a good chance to rest. Which was incredibly good for Dani as she passed out as soon as she'd phased the Speeder upstairs and out of Vlad's old house, staying just barely enough aware to continue trying to keep herself together. It wasn't as much of an immediate problem as it could be since there was only so far she'd melt with the amount of energy she did have, but something had to be done very soon.
*Danny*
Danny wished he could say or even think something along the lines of "Never figured I'd release a bunch of dangerous ghosts for the sake of saving people", but he wasn't the least bit surprised it was something he had to do. Walker had built up quite the number of convicts again which was his own downfall once more. Unlike the last few times, however, Danny managed to avoid a direct showdown with Walker himself. Instead, he helped the escape from the sidelines as much as he could to avoid running into his friends and sister..s? Was it a proper term to call Dani his sister instead of his cousin? Cousin had just been an alias, after all, and he was abruptly reminded a battle was not the time to think about that sort of thing as he got blasted backwards by a wayward shot. Right. Think about other things later when it wouldn't get him bruised or worse.
He went straight back to helping, continuing on even after he heard the Specter Speeder fly overhead, meaning they were safe. He didn't want to just abandon the ghosts who had just helped him out, so once again, he was involved in a full-on riot in Walker's prison until the place was clear of all but Walker and his constructs. Danny froze them all swiftly as the rest of the ghosts fled, dragging them all up to the containment area Walker had put the Speeder in. They'd find a way out eventually, but putting them behind a wall of their own making would hold them for a decent while at least.
Once he had them all in and closed it up, he did one last check through the building before heading off to get back home. Though this time, he went towards Vlad's old Amity Park portal so it'd be a shorter trip. He felt bad for the others having to fly so far in the Speeder, but he couldn't have opened Vlad's portal without them knowing he'd been there. This sucked so much. He didn't want to be kept away from them any longer, but… He couldn't stand the thought of fearing his parents again. He'd spent years of his life doing that already, He didn't want even more of it. And it was these thoughts that accompanied him as he flew on silently.
Danny avoids them all once again! I'm going to try to post the last two chapters tomorrow if I can get them written, but if I can't, then Tuesday this story should definitely be finished. I don't have anything to do Tuesday, so you all hold me to it, alright? Make sure I finish no later than Tuesday. Love y'all.
