Return to Shiloh Chapter 23: All Together Again)
Did you get her settled, Josie? Yes, Uncle Henry. Supper's just about ready. Alright,Josie. Would you like to help me set the table, Ellie? Yes, I would. And with that they went back to the kitchen. Let's go into the parlor, everyone. Hello, Jamie. How's your arm? It's doing just fine, Judge. I don't believe we've met, young fella. My name's Jamie Cole, sir. What's yours? Emmett Ryker. I'm pleased to meet you. How do you know Judge Garth? I was a deputy sheriff around here for years. I met just about everybody around here the first two years I was here. Did you know my cousin Dan Grant? No, I'm afraid I never had the pleasure,Jamie. But the Virginian told me about him, though. How did you hurt your arm? Some rustlers shot me when I was riding through and Josie was the one that found me. I've been here ever since. You've been having trouble with rustlers,Judge? Unfortunately, yes, Emmett. How long has this been going on? It started before I came back here. Have you got any ideas about catching them, Judge? We've got a few. I was going to go talk to Sheriff Abbott about this, but this storm blew up. But I'll be speaking with him as soon as this storm clears and we can get into town.
That sounds like a good idea, Judge. Supper's ready, Uncle Henry. Thank you, Josie. Let's eat, everyone. Would you say the blessing, Uncle Henry? Of course. Bless this food and those gathered around this table and watch over loved ones that are out in the storm. Amen. That was lovely, Uncle Henry. Dig in, everyone, before it gets cold. This is good, Miss Josie. The best meal I've had in quite a while. You're very welcome, Mr. Ryker. Call me Emmett. Everyone does. And you can call me Josie. Then suddenly a crash of thunder sounded outside. Say,that one was close. It certainly was, Jamie. Let's hope it didn't hit anything outside. We had a storm the year before my pa was killed that did more damage than an angry bull. That must have been a big mess. It sure was, Josie. It took us a week to clean up the place. Do you think the animals are alright, Uncle Henry? I'm sure they are, Josie. We've got a good strong barn. That was a delicious meal, Josie. Thank you, Uncle Henry. And I made a pie for dessert. I'll go and get it. I'll help you clear the plates, Josie. Thank-you,Jamie. I'll be right back, everyone.
