Girls POV
Clara felt something tickling her arm. She cracked open one of her eyes and saw Amy leaning over her struggling with something around her waist. Her long hair was brushing against Clara' tanned arm. She groaned and tried to sit up, but found that she couldn't. "Hold on just a minute!" Amy said cheerfully. "I woke up right after Teresa left, and Clint stayed behind and put restraints on our waists and wrists. Probably thought that we might do the same thing she did." She finished undoing Clara's restraint and helped her sit up. "Here, drink some water." She said, handing Clara a half full cup. "Thanks." Clara downed it in one gulp, and Amy poured her some more from a nearby pitcher. "Amy, I'm pretty sure the doctor put something wrong in that serum thing cause I'm not feeling the best."
"Oh, don't you worry!" Amy bubbled "I felt like that too, at first, but then it hit me that we are actually in the Glade- the real thing!" At this, a grin broke out on Clara's face.
"We really are, aren't we!" She jumped up. "You're right! I do feel better!" she grabbed Amy's hand and started dancing and singing, "we're in the ma-aze, we're in the ma-aze, and I'm gonna marr-rry Newwwwwwt cause he's amazinngggggggg and I love himmmm and Newt's-"
"How do you know my name?" Newts' voice asked accusingly. Clara shrieked and hid behind a very confuzzled Amy.
"Ehhhh…. ehehehhe… hi." Amy said nervously. Clara peeped over her shoulder, squeaked again, and hid her face.
"What in the buggin' maze were you doing?"
"Uhh… would you believe me if I said dancing?" Amy tried. Newt shook his head and ran a hand through his hair, muttering under his breath. Clara made some more squeaking noises.
"Ohmygoshhe'sevenmorebeautifulinreallifeIcan'tbreath."
"HUSH!" Amy elbowed Clara in the stomach.
Newt, not noticing the exchange, motioned for them to follow him and walked out of the hut. Amy shot Clara a look that said, don't you dare try anything stupid! Clara nodded, ran her fingers through her hair, and straitened her shoulders. Amy snorted and they walked out after Newt. He led them to a building which was situated right in the corner made by two of the walls. They followed Newt inside and sat down gingerly on the edge of the bench, while Newt remained standing. He cleared his throat, then began.
"First off I wanna know why you two were dancing." He stared pointedly at them. "That's not exactly normal when greenies first wake up."
"Well, I'm not exactly normal." Clara smiled and batted her eyelashes. Amy made some gagging noises, which were quickly silenced by Clara grinding her heel into Amy's foot.
"What she's trying to say is… that we just… like to…when we wake up…."
"…Alright then. That's not weird at all. Secondly, can you remember anything about yourselves?" The girls quickly looked at each other, then Amy nodded. "We remember our names… kind of. Oh by the way, I'm Amy." She gave a friendly smile as she elbowed Clara in the side. "Oh yea- and I'm Clara! It's wonderful to meet you!" She said, widening her eyes and giving him her signature puppy look. Amy rolled her eyes. Newt tilted his head and nodded slowly.
"The names Newt. Welcome to the Glade. Now it's getting late, so let's go get your sleeping arrangements made." He walked out of the council hall, leaving the girls sitting in shock. After a moment, Amy jumped up. "I think he wants us to follow him, Clara," she reminded her friend, who was staring at the door intensely, "not sit here and daydream about him."
"Oh posh if that had been Thomas you would've done the exact same thing." Amy glared at her.
"…Shut up." Clara laughed at Amy's face, then skipped through the door and ran after Newt with Amy hot on her heels.
After they set up their hammocks, Newt had said he had some business left to take care of and left them alone. Being the only girls in the Glade, with the exception of Teresa, they got to have their hammocks set up a little ways off from the boys. They were both quite happy with this, as they could talk without fear of eavesdroppers. They lay on their hammocks quietly thinking. Suddenly Amy sat up and snapped her fingers, startling Clara. "Brb." She stood up and ran towards the Med-jack hut. She was soon back with both of their backpacks. "We never even looked at what the Doctor packed us!" she said excitedly. Handing Clara her backpack, she flopped back down on her hammock, which dumped her unceremoniously on the ground. Clara laughed at her startled face, and soon Amy joined in. They received some strange looks from passing by Gladers, but at the moment, they couldn't care less. Amy stood and brushed the dust off her pants and hands, then carefully sat down on her hammock. Both girls eagerly opened their packs to see what was inside. Clara pulled out her items one by one: a fresh change of clothes, a notebook and pen, a hairbrush, two containers of shampoo and two of conditioner, probably from some strange alien planet, the syringe with the cure for Newt, and two pamphlets about how to use a sonic screwdriver. Huh. The doctor must have slipped them in by accident. She glanced over to see what Amy was doing. Amy was also pulling out items: two small empty wooden boxes, a set of clean clothes for her, two toothbrushes and a tube of toothpaste, and two copies of the death cure. Clara went back to examining the shampoo when Amy gasped. She looked up at Clara, her eyes shining. She pulled out one last item from her backpack and Clara let out a gasp too. It was a sonic screwdriver. Two sonic screwdrivers. She reached out a hand and grasped one of them, then brought it close to her face to examine it. Amy was doing the same with hers. Clara handed her one of the pamphlets, and they eagerly flipped through them. A soft jingling noise sounded, and both girls looked at each other. "That sounded like your phone," Clara said, surprised. Another jingle sounded this one a little different from the first. "That sounded like YOUR phone!" Amy said with a laugh.
"But my phone is back in my normal clothes pocket in the Tardis- unless…" Clara looked pointedly at the outside pockets on her backpack and Amy's. Both girls hurriedly undid the snaps and pulled out their phones.
"Wow the Doctor thinks of everything!" Amy exclaimed. She turned on the screen and there was a text waiting for her. She frowned, not recognizing the number, and turned to Clara to ask her if she knew, but Clara was equally puzzled, having received a text from the same number herself. "Um ok this is weird," she said. "We're in the middle of the maze and I have three bars of wifi…"
"Huh. Me too." Both girls unlocked the phones and opened their texting apps, reading the message that had been sent to them.
We don't know who you are, or how you got inside the box, or how you have so much knowledge, but we do know this: tell anyone about anything and you will be visited by a Griever. –WICKED
"Whoa…" Clara breathed. Amy just stared at her screen.
"…Clara…"
"What?"
"I think we should text back saying that we don't want to change anything here, we just want to change something later that won't affect them. Cos we don't want to be visited by a Griever." Clara chewed on her lip, thinking.
"Yeaaa… yea that would probably be a good idea." She said slowly. Amy nodded, her fingers already typing out a response. Before she sent it she showed it to Clara, who read it thoughtfully, then nodded.
We don't want any trouble. We are just trying to help. We can say that we do have foreknowledge and we'll try not to be troublesome and we'll try our best to not mess things up for you. We realize how important this is. –Amy and Clara
Amy sent the message, then stood up and stretched. "I need to take a walk to clear my head. Wanna join?" Clara nodded. She stood up and walked towards the lookout tree, Amy by her side. Upon arrival, Amy looked up to see the top of the tree. "Ooh, Clara I don't think I can go up there." Amy was terrified of heights. Clara looked up, a slight smirk on her face. There were two people sitting on the edge of the platform with their legs hanging off, and Clara recognized who they were: Thomas and Teresa. She watched as Teresa pulled something out of her pocket and handed it to Thomas. He examined it, then stood up and offered his hand to Teresa. Clara looked at Amy, who frowned at the sight of Thomas holding Teresa's hand. They quickly made their way down, Teresa in front, and jumped onto the hard packed earth below the tree. Thomas glanced over at them, then stopped and walked over. Amy gulped.
"You're the other girls- the ones who came up with Teresa, right? You didn't have any…" He looked over at Teresa who was watching them curiously. "…trouble… when you woke up, did you?" Clara laughed.
"No actually. But we wish that we'd been there to see it!" Amy chuckled, and Thomas shifted his gaze from Clara to her. He stared at her for a moment, and then shook his head slightly. Teresa walked closer.
"Um… well hi… I'm Clara… oh and this is Amy." Amy nodded her head in Thomas's direction.
"Well I'm Thomas, and this is Teresa." Teresa smiled at them warmly.
"Nice to actually see another girl here!" she said cheerfully. Both girls nodded.
"We set up a hammock for you with us- if you don't mind. Newt let us have a section away from the other boys so…" Teresa smiled thankfully. The four of them stood there for a moment, then Clara shook her head a little.
"You should probably go now… Alby's waiting." Thomas nodded his thanks. "You're right. We'll catch ya later then?" he said hopefully. Amy tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and nodded. Thomas smiled and walked off with Teresa. Clara glanced over at Amy, who was staring at Thomas's retreating form dreamily. Clara snorted, bringing Amy back to reality. "Oh yea- like your face was any better when Newt left!" she said defensively.
"Hey I didn't say anything!" Clara smiled at her face and continued walking around the Glade. Amy jogged to catch up with her. They found their way over to Frypans kitchen, where they got some delicious stew for dinner with freshly baked bread, then headed back to their hammocks for some sleep.
