Girls POV

Clara lay quietly in her hammock, thinking about the events of the day. Because she had just woken up from her "coma" a few hours ago, she wasn't tired, but she wanted sleep to come because she knew what was coming next. "Amy are you still awake?" she whispered.

"Mmm-hmm." They laid in silence for a minute. Clara opened her mouth to speak again when they heard footsteps approaching. She suddenly realized that they had no means of defending themselves if they were attacked, other than the sonic screwdrivers and their karate skills- Clara was a black belt, and Amy knew just enough to hold her own in a fight. The person came closer, and Clara realized that it was just Teresa coming to bed. She sat down on the hammock the girls had set up for her and started unlacing her boots. Once they were off, she lay back in her hammock with one leg hanging out, bare foot in the dust, rocking herself gently. Clara cleared her throat.

"Oh," Teresa sounded surprised. "Didn't know you were still awake."

"Yeah… we both are… it's just kinda hard to sleep at a time like this…" Clara replied sarcastically. Amy snorted.

"For you maybe… I'm not scared in the least right now."

"Impressive. I'm pretty confused… and a little scared," Teresa admitted. "I hate not remembering anything, ya' know?" There was silence for a moment.

"Yeahhh…" Clara agreed halfheartedly. "I totally get you."

"Doesn't sound like you do!" Teresa exclaimed. The girls remained silent. "…There's something you're not telling me, isn't there." She accused. There was an uncomfortable pause

"Uhh… we'd better get some sleep… tomorrow's gonna be a big day…" Clara tried to end the conversation but Teresa wouldn't have any of it.

"Nuh-uh! Not until you tell me why you aren't scared and why you aren't upset at all about your memories being gone- what are you doing?" Her voice changed from angry to curious surprisingly fast. Amy had pulled out her phone (underneath the thin blanket to try to block the light but it wasn't working very well) and was rapidly texting someone. Clara groaned.

"A. MIL. I. A. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Amy held up one finger in response and they waited for her to finish whatever she was doing. Teresa stared openmouthed at the gadget in her hand, while Clara glared at it.

"Teresa, would you be so kind as to go get us a lantern or candle or some other kind of light? I need to talk to Clara a minute… alone." Teresa wordlessly stood and went in search of a lantern. The moment she was out of earshot, Cara turned to her friend and started whispering loudly.

"WHAT D'YA THINK YOU'RE DOING YOU COULD GET SOMEBODY KILLED AND THEN WHERE WOULD WE BE?! WE HAVE TO STICK TO THE STORY SO WE CAN SAVE NEWT! STOP TRYING TO CHANGE THINGS, AMY, OR I'LL HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!" She finished and glowered at Amy, who was calmly watching Clara with an amused look on her face.

"Clara…" she snorted. "I was texting WICKED to see if Teresa could find out- like if it would mess with her brain tests or whatever. They said that it might actually be helpful, and to try it. I've been texting them the whole time Teresa was here, and I just let my light show when they said it was ok." She looked expectantly at Clara, who was frowning as she processed this information.

"Oh…" was all she said. They sat in silence until Teresa returned. She plunked the lantern down in between the three of them then crossed her arms and looked purposely at them. Amy nodded.

"Alright- this is gonna be confusing and all, so save your questions till the end. Clara help me out if I need it, k?" Both Teresa and Clara nodded and Amy began. "A couple days ago, me and Clara were relaxing on a beach on vacation. We were reading one of our favorite books, when I heard a noise. I followed the noise into the woods and found one of our favorite characters from one of our favorite TV shows. His name is the Doctor and he can travel through space and time and he saves people's lives and he's just amazing." Teresa glanced over at Clara who nodded solemnly. Amy continued, "In the book that we were reading, one of our favorite characters dies, and we thought that we could save him, with the Doctors help. So he took us to some weird planet in the future and got us some medicine, then came here and dropped us off in the box. Unfortunately, you were in there, which meant that we got on at the wrong time. So basically WICKED- that's the people who put you here- texted me on my phone, saying that we shouldn't tell or make any trouble. Just now I was texting them asking if we could tell you because we need at least one person who will help us convince others to do things. Got all that?" Teresa looked kind of dazed, but she nodded.

"So… in your world… this… this is all a book?" The girls nodded. "And that means… that someone here is gonna…" she gulped. "…gonna die?!" The girls nodded again.

"But don't worry we're gonna save him!" Clara said defensively. A look of relief crossed Teresa's face.

"Oh good it's not me!" Her face crumpled into a frown. "Wait… do I know him?" The girls nodded solemnly.

"But don't worry. We're gonna save him." Clara repeated slowly. Teresa took a few deep breaths and nodded. They sat in silence for a moment more. Amy spoke up quietly.

"We should really get some sleep- it's gonna be a big day tomorrow and we won't get much sleep tomorrow night." Clara nodded.

"Wait… so you guys know what's gonna happen next?!"

"Oi…" Amy rubbed her eyes. "Yes and we should really go to sleep cos tomorrow is gonna be a big day. Trust us on this." Teresa nodded and turned off the lantern, then lay back. Clara could tell that her mind was racing, thinking, processing. She smirked. "Teresa…"

"Yeah?"

"Get some sleep!" Teresa giggled then rolled over. Satisfied, Clara relaxed and let herself slip off into unconsciousness.

When she awoke, she felt refreshed. Teresa's blankets were rumpled and empty, but Amy's head was hanging off her hammock, her mouth wide open. Clara grinned and sat up, rummaging through her backpack. She found her phone and checked to see if anyone was watching, then took a picture. Unfortunately, her sound was up quite high and made a clicking sound which woke up Amy. She opened her eyes and saw Clara sheepishly holding her phone up like she had been taking a picture. Amy launched herself at her friend, who dropped her phone and covered her head. Amy smacked her and Clara laughed her head off. They fell out of the hammock and rolled in the dust. Amy somehow ended up sitting on top of Clara's stomach and they sat there breathing heavily. Both girls were laughing so hard they couldn't breathe. Suddenly Amy was grabbed by her shoulders and jerked her off Clara. Hands were gripping her arms and pinning her to the ground. Newt's face appeared above hers and she sensed a dangerous glint in his eyes.

"It seems that you've forgotten the rules, Amy. Never harm another Glader." Amy paled.

"I was-"

"NO EXCUSES!" he bellowed. Amy's face hardened and she glared back at him.

"Well if you're gonna be so DIFFICULT maybe I'll just LEAVE!" She yelled. Clara finally realized what was going on and stood up, then squeezed her way in between Newt and Amy and pushed her hands against his chest.

"Whoawhoawhoawhoa chill dude chill! Everything is ok I'm fine! See?" Clara waved her hands, gesturing to her body, "Not dead!" A sly look came over her face. "Where you really that concerned?

"I'm gonna barf if you don't shut up right now." Amy groaned. Newt looked quickly between the girls with a confused face.

"But- she was-"

"Look. We're best friends. We have many… uh… inside jokes that many people won't understand. For instance…"she looked at Amy, who looked furious. "I can say one word- just one word- and we will die laughing. Ready?" she looked at Newt, who nodded confusedly. "…bananas." Newt looked at Amy, who busted out laughing, then at Clara, who was laughing just as hard.

"…Oookayyy… I still fail to see the point of this..." he said once they quieted down.

"The point is, we were playing and we WERE laughing the whole time… until you tackled her to the ground and started freaking out on her. Which is, by the way, a very bad idea." He shook his head, smiling slightly to himself. Amy looked at Clara and said, "Octopus" and they both died laughing again, tears streaming down their cheeks. Newt started laughing too. They kept on exchanging words that had no meaning to him, but evidently much meaning to them, laughing the whole time.

"Whales"

"Owen"

"Eagles"

"Monkeys"

Eventually they calmed down enough for him to take them to Frypan for some food and then to the fields to try their hands at being a track-hoe. He set them up with weeding some beans, which made Amy grumble, but just told them to get to work and then walked away. Clara grinned at Amy, "He touched my hand when he gave me the hoe."Amy rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath to Clara,

"I absolutely hate bean plants I have wasted sooo many hours of my life picking beans and weeding beans and snapping beans…" Clara picked up a chunk of dirt and threw it at Amy.

"Oh quit your whining!"

"You're just saying that because Newt is here- Thomas is in the maze with Minho, finding the griever hole." She threw some at Clara, who threw some back. Soon they were throwing handfuls of dirt at each other, and running down the rows of beans and corn. They were laughing and throwing dirt at each other and dodging the flying dirt. Soon they reached a section that had been watered recently, and now it was mud flying through the air. Amy laughingly threw one at Clara's back but she turned around and it hit her right in the mouth. Clara's face was shocked, then angered. Amy quickly turned and ran out into the rest of the Glade, Clara following. Amy was running as fast as she could now, laughing breathlessly. Anyone who was watching would've seen a strange sight: a girl being chased by another girl, both of whom were covered in mud and laughing their heads off. Clara slowed to a walk and sat down to catch her breath. Amy realized that she wasn't being chased anymore and slowed down too, then walked back over to Clara, who stomped on her foot. Amy fell over from laughing so hard. Clara looked up to see Newt coming towards them and realized what she had just done. When he reached them, Amy's laughter had stopped and she was lying on her back breathing heavily, a smile still lurking at the corners of her mouth.

"So…" Newt said slowly, taking in their mud splattered skin and clothing. "Is this another inside joke?"

"Now it is!" Amy said cheerfully. Clara just looked relieved that Newt wasn't gonna be mad.

"I thought I set you two up for weeding, not mud wrestling!" He joked.

"Yea sorry we just love mud wrestling so much that when we see a chance we take it." Amy said with a smile. Clara nodded.

"Pretty much!"

Newt smiled and scooped some mud off of Clara's shoulder and studied it intensely. Clara bent her head closer, curious at what he was staring at. Newt then ground the mud into her hair.

"I guess I'm in on this one." He smirked. A shocked expression ran over her face, then mock fury.

"Oh it's so war."

"Bring it on greenie." Newt mocked. Clara scooped some mud off the ground and flung it into his face. Amy got up off the ground and was in the process of pelting both of them with mud balls. Some stray ones hit other gladers, and they joined in the fight. Soon the whole garden was full of flying mud. Amy was trying to wipe the muck off of her glasses when she ran straight into a hard back. Gally turned around and stared at the girl.

"Oops." Amy whispered. Clara, not noticing Gally standing right there, threw an extra large mud ball. She missed and hit Gally straight in the chest.

"We are…. so dead." Amy croaked. Gally's mighty eyebrows drew together in fury.

"What do you think you're doing?!" Clara ran up to them and started stuttering profusely.

"IamsososorrythatwasanaccidentbutwhydoyouhavetobesorudeI'msorrynevermindjustdontkillmepleeeeease!" Newt ran up to the trio.

"Wow she got you good Gally" He exclaimed. Gally glowered in the girl's direction.

"I think we need to focus on more important things than a little mud fight." He stomped away to clean up.

Newt rolled his eyes. "Just ignore him. He hasn't been himself lately." After signaling the other gladers to start cleaning up, he put his hand on Clara's shoulder to lead them to the showers. Clara looked extremely surprised and pleased, until Newt turned to Amy and addressed her, his hand still on Clara's shoulder.

"That was some sprint, Greenie. Y'know, you might even have the chops to be a runner!"

"Well… thanks, I guess. But we'll have to see what Minho says, right?" Newt nodded, and gave Clara's shoulder a little squeeze. "Let's take you to the showers so you can get cleaned up, alright?" He brought them there and left them to figure out the shower. It was only when he left that he realized the girls had never met Minho.
