When Naegi had been accepted into Hope's Peak academy he had one goal. In fact, since the day he was born, he had held the same goal. To spread despair across the world.

When he had stepped across the gates, he couldn't help but smile. He had a plan, one he was sure to work. He needed one thing, allies. Fellow Super Highschool Level Despairs. He had tested, and succeeded, in minor tests, and had made many different estimates and simulations of how his plan would work. He had managed to complete almost all of the plan, and he only had to start it.

It was unfortunate that starting the plan required at least two more allies.

...Version 1...

When Naegi entered the school, he searched high and low for an ally, one both smart enough to fulfil his or her role, and loyal enough to actually go through with it. Preferably, it would also be someone who enjoys despair, just like himself. On the first day, he found two that would do exactly that.

Junko Enoshima, the Super Highschool Level Fashionista, and her older sister, Mururo Ikusaba, the Super Highschool Level Soldier, had fit all those categories. Enoshima, much like himself, was simply thrilled to find someone who understood her desire for despair.

Slowly but surly Naegi was able to win over students to his cause, recruiting all of them to make sure he would have enough Despair. It took a few months, but by December, he had figured out a way to spread his Despair.

Enoshima had managed to get the Super Highschool Level Mechanic on their side, and the Super Highschool Level Hope. Both were great allies, if the second was rather ironic, and would help greatly. Once he had about twenty machine-related students, he had them build it, their instrument of Despair.

Not only that, but he had gotten both the Super Highschool Level Idol and Detective to join his side himself, as well as a fair number of classmates. Sadly, he didn't have the same charisma as Enoshima, though their Despair was much the same.

...Time Skip...

It was done! Personally, he thought they were going to make some sort of human-like machine, but they settled on a bear, a short bulky one at that. It was useful though. It was relatively inexpensive, it could use weaponry, could broadcast stations, it had a very strong alloy to make up its claws, and it had an auto-exploding device that could be set off at will, allowing for our secrets to remain secret, and kamikazes. It was also surprisingly durable.

All in all, he was sure it would work, as soon as he gained some new coding from Chirhiro.

Still, with all this that was going on, there was a question that was becoming increasingly important. Who was the leader of Ultimate Despair? Is it Naegi or Enoshima?

...Time Skip...

It turns out, that problem was solved rather simply. A simple game of Rock-Paper-Scissors decided that he, Naegi Makoto should be the leader. It was funny that the world's fate literally hung in the balance of a single game, though. Such is the power of Despair.

In other news, he was finally ready to start his plan. First, he was going to need a few more copies of Monokuma, their cute bear machine, possibly a monochrome jacket for the end of the Killing Game. He would have the schools Super Highschool Level Hope play as well, just because it was such a funny prospect.

His forces of Despair now numbered in almost two hundred, almost a third of the students at Hope's Peak itself. Though the reserve students far outnumbered that. It would be interesting to bring down Hope's Peak with the ones they shunned. Hehehe. I think I'll start recruiting them too.

He was almost ready for stage two and three as well. As stage two should be accomplished by the broadcasting of stage one. After that, he had a few Super Highschool Level's going to hack into either the U.S. Nuclear Weapon's, or Russia's. He honestly wasn't sure which would be easier, as they were both far beyond his actual ability.

It was coming along nicely, if he did say so himself.

...Time Skip...

"Hahahahahahah!" It seemed that, just like he though, the world was enveloped in Despair! He had started the Mutual Killing Games as a constant channel, several in fact, he had thousands of followers now, and he had started several events so huge that they would have been called something else, probably with a better name, if they were the only major event.

Who knew that starting a Nuclear War between the Nine Nuclear Nations wouldn't be called World War Three? The best part, he had spilled so much information and secrets of each nation that almost all of them were undermined, especially since they were concentrating on fighting each other. Because of that, anyone who wanted to could easily make almost any weapon. Granted, Nuclear Weapons weren't quite as accessible as he wanted them to be, but he would just have to deal that they were both hard to make, and very costly.

Other than that, there were currently over sixty nine, and that's not counting any new countries, completely separate wars going on in the Northern Hemisphere alone. Along with that, there were currently an innumerable amount of rebellious parties waging civil war in their respective countries. The death rates were currently almost a million a day!

Naegi could stifle his laughter all day after that.

...Time Skip...

Naegi frowned slightly. "Is something wrong?" asked Kirigiri, one of his favorite women in the world. Naegi sighed, "A new organization called Future Foundation is starting to gain pretty significant power. It doesn't seem to be in Despair though. Have any ideas on how I can make their Hope turn into Despair?" he asked, knowing she was significantly smarter than him.

Kirigiri thought for a moment. "Not them specifically, no. You could use them as an example, let them gain power and unite a large portion of the world and them massacre them, however." she suggested. Naegi thought about that for a second. As it was, he had millions dying every day in violent Despair. He wanted Despair to go on to the next generation, however. As it was, it was a very real possibility that humanity would kill itself off before then.

He wanted to leave a few million, maybe even a half a billion, though he would have to stop conflict fast for that, still alive to tell the tale of Despair. As it was, he knew a few hundred would live as his direct followers. He also knew that thousands could no longer imagine a world without him, however, and would commit suicide rather than live with the beautiful world he had made.

He also knew that more than a few thousand would probably follow his more influential members. Some, like Sonia Nevermind, would have more servants than his surviving Ultimate Despairs if, no, when he died.

Naegi knew he had to leave a few people alive. But who? Suddenly, a thought of who would have peaceful Despair entered his mind, and Naegi felt a cold, cruel smirk form on his face. "I'm guessing you've got a Des-bear-ing idea?" she asked, mocking his Monokuma voice lightheartedly.

...Time Skip...

Finally, it was done. Hope's Peak, and their fifty seven inherited titles, were all locked under one roof, as well as many entertainment personnel, and servants. They would have a large, ever-growing Despair, especially with such bright hopes and periodic failures. Naegi also had a few Ultimate Despairs hidden within them.

Every once and awhile, he would order one to make a single, unimportant murder to make sure they didn't get too big a head, break a window down, ect, ect, but he would have them live in constant fear of both him, the dangers outside their single building, and his plan. He would make sure that none of their rescue attempts failed, but would also kidnap a steady supply of servants, making sure that they would replace their predecessors perfectly, and eventually they would all be full of Despair, and he would let them out.

Enoshima huffed beside him. "Why keep them all caged up and not even do a Killing Game?" she asked. Naegi chuckled slightly at her impatiens. "That's your problem, your too short sighted. If every human dies off, then there will be no more Despair. If both you and I are kept alive, then we can't find true Despair. For that reason, we have to ingrain into humanity the need to live though Despair, so that humanity as a whole can understand how wonderful it is!" he explained, laughing slightly.

Enoshima blushed heavily, "Your so wise! Though, I think I could live in a world with just the two of us." Naegi smiled.

...Version 2...

...Time Skip...

Sadly, it was Maizono that died first, in his shower nonetheless. Even more sad, she left the name of her killer clearly visible! Luckily, Leon seemed almost as eager as Maizono herself to kill someone. Unluckily, they were so eager to kill eachother that they didn't prepare for the Class Trial. Even better, he was almost assuredly going to lose, so he could wait for Leon's execution.

Naegi chuckled, thinking of how he could make the Class Trial more difficult.

...Time Skip...

Ahh! How wonderful! It seemed his enactment had convinced them all!

Even the Super Highschool Level Detective was trusting him! He couldn't let down his brilliant disguise yet, however. He would defiantly fool them all. Already this game was clearing the world of the last remnants of hope!

...Time Skip...

It seemed that Junko was getting bored. Using an obvious dead body to allow one "Free" planned failure of Hope.

Though, I would have used their precious people, instead of another illusive death. I guess Enoshima was running the game though, better just enjoy it as best as I can.

...Time Skip...

Yes! They, all of their brightest hopes were depending on this moment!

Sadly, Enoshima's plan to frame the detective had failed. Luckily, however, they had guessed about Murkuro and even therefor guessed Enoshima. They hadn't seemed to guess about himself, however, luckily.

Naegi shot down another point by Junko, a mere distraction from the true despair at this point.

Finally, after many minutes of debate, the two girls were done. The true despair in Junko Enoshima and Murkuro Ikusaba was beaten by the remaining hope of the Super Highschool Levels. To top it all off, so confident in their hope were they that they had named him, or all people, Super Highschool Level Hope!

Finally, they voted. Every vote, including the vote of Naegi himself, blamed Junko as the mastermind. As soon as the vote went through, Junko, Murkuro, and Naegi burst out laughing.

Naegi felt the matter of his jacket shift, and saw that its once green exterior had become half white and half black. He knew from experience that it also had two different colored ears on top, and sported a red pocket on its right side, modeled after Monokuma's red "eye".

Quickly, he reached into his pocket, taking out the red contact lens inside and putting it into his right eye as quick as possible. He felt his own, evil smile creep across his face.

"You've got that wrong." he stated, the class still staring at the mixture of Junko and Murkuro. Slowly, all at once, his remaining classmates turned to him, staring at him with gaping mouths. ?Maegi?" the super Highschool Level Detective asked.

Makoto Naegi, the leader of Ultimate Despair, smiled widely. "Thanks for playing! I guess this mystery was a bit too hard... eh?" he joked, mostly to Kirigiri.

...Version 3...

Suddenly, Naegi, the Super Highschool Level Luck, was having a problem.

He had woken up in a dark classroom, and had been instructed to go to the school's gym. It wouldn't be a problem, as he was enrolled, but he had gotten there late, and had then been challenged to kill his classmates.

"We'll never kill each other just to graduate!" he had yelled. Naegi sighed, here really hoped that stupid bear wouldn't keep him in the school forever.

...Time Skip...

"The Mastermind is Enoshima Junko!" the Super Highschool Level model reared back in defeat. "Ahahahahahaha! You got me! It's time tome for my execution!" she happily shouted, slowly lowering her hand unto the big red button. He was about to try to stop her, when she spoke again, "-is what you though I would say, right?" she smiled. Posing again, The Super Highschool Level Fashionista laughed. "While I am one of the Masterminds, there are actually three!" she happily exclaimed. "If either of them vote against Hope, all of you die!"

Laughing slightly, Enoshima pointed at them. "If you can't convince the other the everyone but them will die!" she exclaimed, breathing hard.

Everyone was surprised, though Naegi was, once again, the one to voice everyone's thoughts. "How are we suppose to tell who's the other masterminds?" he asked, only addressing Enoshima.

Enoshima thought for a second, before snapping her fingers. "Of course! I need to remind our precious students who they really are!"

She clapped her hand loudly, and a strange, red button slowly lifted from the floor. Elegantly, she slowly pushed the button down, until it made an audible click.

Pain flared through Naegi, and all the other Super Highschool Level students. All of them, without exception, remembered the last two years. Only one of them, however, remembered it all.

His entire life, from his first memory, a time when dropped some of his candy as a child, falling down and scraping his knee. He remembered his fascination with despair, and the plans and things he had done over the last two years. Slowly, he smiled a cruel, sadistic smile, as the him forged in True Hope, battled the him made of True Despair.

Naegi looked over the crowd, settling on his final ally, the disappointing Super Highschool Level Soldier, knowing she would do whatever he wanted, by indirect control of her sister.

Naegi, the Super Highschool Level Ultimate Despair, smiled.

Shaking his head slightly, more to give the appearance of clearing his head than actually clearing his head, Naegi spoke. "We can't give up! We've got to beat Despair!" That line made both sides of him smile, but it also sparked a massive conflict between the vastly different personalities. The battle between them increased rapidly every second, and soon made both of them take their attention off the physical world.

The battle inside them was raging strong, but it did have a fairly constant win-loss ratio. Despairingly, it came down to two completely unexpected variables. The raw experience of having the internal conflict between your Hope and Despair, Hope had a clear advantage. At the same time, he sheer amount of true memories his Despair side had made the battle.

It made it a simple test of who's memories would run out faster. It was easily averaging out about a year of Despair's memories for a single day of Hope's memories when his Hope side remembered something Despair hadn't expected.

He was in love.

...Version three Version 1...

Feeling conflict, the original Naegi shook his thoughts away, preferring to simply avoid the question enough to settle his internal debate. Now having experiance dealing with conflict inside himself, Despair easily crushed what remained of his Hope self. Once he did, and had correctly subdued his Hope self, he realized just how much Despair this would get him. Not the outer Despair, which he caused simply by existing, but the Despair he had always searched for, Internal Despair. Just thinking, realizing that got Naegi exited.

His exitment dulled somewhat, when he realized that he couldn't show it, else the Despair his classmates felt during their death would be dulled somewhat by time. Instead, Naegi shook his head and slammed his hands down unto the small platform in front of him, making sure to press the Kirigiri button, as that was who his Hope side had loved.

Smiling with absolute confidence, Naegi urged his classmates on, "We can't allow ourselves to lose just because of the Mastermind's trick! Now's our chance to spread Hope!"

...Time Skip...

Naegi sat on his favorite throne, staring at the pitiful attacks of Future Foundation against his domain. Sadly, this level of Despair wouldn't really excite him anymore. Sighing slightly, he thought of a way he could make a more exiting game this time. Joining it was rather nice. he supposed.

...Version three Version 2...

He felt love, for the first time in his life.

It felt so wonderful, so warm, and possibly even better than Despair. for a second, or maybe more, his Despair stopped. His Hope had felt love.

Love!

It was impossible! He couldn't comprehend what his alternate personality felt. He couldn't! By the time his Hope had notice, he was at The Most Despair Inducing Incident in the History of Mankind. His Hope self took a major blow, but didn't stop, and was, though slower, still progressing through it. He didn't know why, nor how, and he didn't understand what could possiably power his Hope! He knew that he was Despair! That he fought against his true nature! Why did he continue on! He questioned, before realizing.

Understanding for the first the first time in his life, the true, original Naegi Makoto simply gave up, enjoying the feeling of love in his last moments.

...PoV Change...

Enoshima noticed the change in her leader, the True Absolute Despair, immediately. Knowing his argument against her before, he was probably having a terriable internal conflict, but she was confident her true master would win. Her leader, the True Absolute Despair, smiled evilly at her.

"Sorry, I was the person hiding within us." What? her mind denied it. "No longer! Everyone! The True Despairs are-" Enoshima could hear. She thought she heard the sound of something breaking, of true Despair, but she couldn't see anything either. No sight, no sound, no hot, no cold, no emotion, no Hope, no Love, no light, it was what some would call Hell.

But it's better than the truth.

...Line Break...

...Time Skip... (Dangan Ronpa, Despair Girls.)

Naegi Komaru had finally escaped her imprisonment. Her brother, Naegi Makoto, had always been True Despair, but only the last few months had she been True Hope. Of course, when her brother had heard about this development, he had immediately hunted her down with an army of Monokuma. He had congratulated her personally on becoming Ultimate Hope, but had imprisoned her shortly thereafter.

Finally, with the help of Future Foundation, she had become free. Once they had heard of her title, and who she was, they had sent all of the forces they could spare to free her, and it worked. As of now, she was free, and on the run, but she would probably be unable to escape by her own. Ohh! There were two people! Ones that didn't look in Despair!

...Time Skip... (Super Danganronpa 2)

When Hinata woke up, he didn't really expect anything. He couldn't remember anything, and didn't know why he was here, or where he was to begin with. Waking up in a classroom was kinda ordinary, but that was to be expected he supposed. Having their teacher look like some pink fanatic girl that was defiantly not older than them, was not expected. When he was trying to understand exactly what was happening, he defiantly did not expect the walls to fall out, revealing them to be on a tropical paradise.

He guessed that waking in up in a classroom wouldn't be unusual, if he had just woke up, if he forgot his memories temporarily when he woke. He thought he may have remembered a sickness or something that did that. Still, the classes teacher, Usami and Komaru, were by far the strangest of his situation. Both were dressed the same, if an obviously robot bunny could be "wearing" something to begin with. Both had a white half for their right side, and a pink half for their left. Both were split straight down their middle.

Even stranger thing, however, was that they didn't seem to know each other. In fact, the two teachers had made a long series of introductions as soon as they met. Considering how similar they were, and their similar style and personalities, Hinata was not even considering them to be a coincidence.

Still, the strangest thing of all, was when everyone was finally ready to have fun, and their teacher, Komaru, had cautiously, and very slowly, inched into the water. Everyone was relaxing, preparing to have a nice, peaceful, fun day, and nothing was wrong with that. That is, until Monokuma appeared. Suddenly, he announced that they were to participate in some sort of murder game, their fun, relaxing day had turned into something horrible.

Still, he didn't really expect anyone to actually kill each other. It was stupid to think that they would, honestly. It was strange that Monokuma seemed to honestly believe that the students would kill each other. It was odd, and more than slightly unsettling.

...Time Skip...

When it was time to clean the beach house for the party, it was really a matter of who, exactly, would do it. It was solved fairly easily, luckily enough, as the their two teachers, Usami and Komaru, decided to work togeather to clean the relatively large beach house.

Another strange fact, it seemed that Komata, Super Highschool Level Luck, had developed some sort of crush on Komaru, and kept trying to talk with her about Hope. It was slightly unsettling, that one of his classmates was in love with their teacher, and more than slightly strange. It also brought another important question though.

Could they really trust their "teachers"?

...Time Skip...

Monokuma stood before them. "Since their hasn't been many murders lately, I've gotten dis-bear-ingly bored, so I've decided to mix everything up a little!" the robot bear happily announced. Suddenly, a table appeared between him, and us. On the table lay several cards with the names of me and my classmates. There was even a card labeled Peko Pekoyama, though it was crossed out with something that looked suspiciously like blood. In fact, now that he looked closer at them, it seemed that even their teachers, both of them, had slips.

Hinata felt a bad feeling in his gut, even as he and the rest of his classmates were forced to take the slips of paper. Looking at his, all he saw were two words. A name. "Izuru Kamukura." Looking at it made his head hurt slightly, and he felt a little queasy, bored, and irritated all at once. Still, it wasn't something anyone would murder each other for.

...Time Skip...

It was over. Finally, they had escaped. Through many casualties, they had finally made it out, with most of the class still alive. Finally, Hinata/Izuru finally opened his eyes. In front of him, stood the true master mind. Neagi Makoto. Izuru smiled "Couldn't you have broken us out?" he laughed slightly. Neagi smiled, "Thought you would enjoy going through such despair again." he smiled, insanity gripping the edges of his eyes.

Hints and Tips.

Version 1.

This is a before-story horror. You need to think heavily of how they do each action, and explain it as best you can. Also, you may want to switch Naegi and Enoshima, but I would advise that you keep them both relatively the same.

This story should have a slow for the character delve into insanity, or to absolute happiness. It should also contain a very blatantly opposite effect on the world as a whole. I say that because that was how it was in Cannon.

You will probably want to have the Naegi in this story act like a psychopath, and still remain very charming, perhaps with sociopathic behavior and thoughts.

Try to keep the aweing difference between Super Highschool Levels and normal people, as the Cannon story does. Do try to make the average person believable though.

A backstory as to why, exactly, Naegi is obsessed with Despair would be nice.

Version 2.

In this version Naegi is conscious of his title as Ultimate Despair the entire time. Have him constantly try to get others to commit murder, and perhaps even hid the evidence to increase their success rate.

It's not a very good story if you can guess its end. Why not have different motivations given at different times.

Perhaps save Mukuro, as Enoshima isn't the one calling the shots.

You will probably want to have this Naegi act like a psychopath, with very heavy mention of sociopathic thoughts and behavior.

Version 3.

In this story, Naegi isn't aware of his actual past until the very end of the story. For this reason, it isn't really interesting by itself. It's more of a side genre. Have a different main theme, and then pull the rug out from under them-sort of thing.

I would advise different murders and order, as Enoshima isn't the one calling the shots in this story.

Perhaps hinting at this outcome very heavily, but hide them in the story. Something like a mentioned shift in body language, or him not remembering doing something he did. Having several instances where he switches for a short period of time would work as well.

....Special Notice...

As for the part for Super Danganronpa 2 and Despair Girls, those aren't tied into any particular version, and could be written in any of them. Though you would have to explain why, in Danganronpa 2, the Remnants of Despair are in the simulation to begin with. Perhaps them actually becoming good people then emerging into the world outside would be good. You would also have to explain why Monokuma is there as well.

Random Sentence!: Huh, making a Death Ray strong enough to destroy the capital of France would take over a hundred years of charging with my current weaponry.
