Chapter 5: The Dream

So upon starting the sequel I've realised writing this particular chapter is not matching up with the current one I'm working on so this one is due for a major re-do. Thanks for your patience everyone! It is deeply appreciated!

Falling asleep couldn't have been any harder for me that night. The constant tossing and turning, I kept getting hot then changed to freezing cold. It just went from extreme to the other, once I'd finally managed to shut my eyes and drift peacefully off to dreamland. I was met with a land that was anything but a dream.

My hands were bound behind my back as I was marched through an old town. Everyone seemed to be speaking in a different language with their angry faces glaring at me. I'd remained silent through it all. I was surrounded by different men in all black robes. Most if not all were armed with bibles and crosses. I was pulled through the town as things faded, and refocused with new scenery. I was in a hall being led into a dingy, dirty cell the dirt floors under my now bare feet. Two women were now with me as the tore my dress from me leaving me clad in my white shift. Low-cut and baggy it exposed cleavage and my shoulders. I was then pushed down to the straw-stuffed cot in the room and pain seemed to rain down on me. It felt as though the women -whose faces had begun to twist and contort- were pinching me everywhere they could get their boney hands at.

The surroundings shifted again as I could feel my hands bound behind my back I was up against a wooden beam. I watched the crowd before me jeer and throw rotten food in my direction screaming, "burn the witch!" and quoting scripture at me. I gulped looking around and seeing I was in fact tied to a pyre. The sticks were set a blaze suddenly and I could feel the heat surrounding me. I screamed in fear. I struggled as much as I could against the ropes that bound me, the thick black smoke seemed to choke me- that alone should've been enough to kill me. The flames began to lick at me feet causing me to shriek in pain. "Please!" I begged only to be ignored by the jeers and cheers of the surrounding crowd. "Please no!" I screamed louder still feeing the flames begin to creep up my body in slow agony.

"Kayla! It's okay! You- you're dreaming!" I woke up to Sean trying not to get hit by one of my flailing limbs, breathing fast I sat up only now feeling the tears falling down my face. I was shaking.

"Kayla?" He asked gently, his grip on my wrists loosening now that my flailing had subsided.

"What the hell?!" we heard. Sean must've left my door open when he'd come to check on me. Reid was standing at the door and saw me, with my tear-stained face, panting and shaking self to Sean who was sitting next to me on the bed still holding my wrists.

"What the fuck, man?! You're a psycho get away from her." He shoved Sean away from me sending him to the floor.

"Reid!" I shouted, he acknowledged me but his eye's never left a rather pissed off looking Sean.

"It's really not what it looked like." I explained with a sudden break in my voice.

"Yeah right, He got all pissy last night thinking that I was gonna sleep with you. Correct me if I'm wrong Sean but it sure looked like jealousy to me."

"No, Garwin I knew you were gonna hurt her, I know what you do Garwin. You fuck girls then forget them. You made the mistake to do that with my cousin!" Shouted Sean. "And this," Sean started "Was me hearing her crying from next door, so I came in to help her out thinking you had something to do with it!" He finished getting up warily, Sean shifted his gaze to me and asked in a softer voice. "You ok?"

Nodding I said, "Yeah, I'm fine now. Really. Thank you."

Sean walked out saying "I'm right next door, if you need me." giving Reid a horrible look.

Reid sighed out in frustration. I glanced at the clock and read 3:44, it was definitely gonna be a long day tomorrow.

"You wanna talk 'bout it?" came Reid's calm voice.

I shook my head not knowing how to describe what I'd seen, maybe I was wrong about my lineage. "Well, I mean if- if everything's okay…" Reid trailed off starting to leave but I stopped him by crying out.

"No!" I cried standing from my bed now, "Please. Don't go, please. Just stay. I- I don't wanna be alone." I finished looking to the floor feeling rather embarrassed.

"Are you alright, red?" Reid asked me his head tilting to one side. I sighed as I delved into the dream I'd had. Reid sat with me listening intently. "I- I don't think the powers originated from John Putnam." I finished. Feeling more confused than ever. "Which leaves me to wonder-." I began.

"Where they came from." Reid finished his eyes looking to me intently. I nodded now looking around the room feeling as though there were a pair of eyes on me.

Well, it's not a complete overhaul, but this chapter has some major changes to the story as a whole. Thanks for reading guys!
