"Mayuzumi-senpai?" Kuroko called out to him. Walking a few steps towards the senior with uncertain steps. Mayuzumi had promised to continue teaching him ball handling and improvise on it in everyway but somehow Mayuzumi seems reluctant to even be there in the fourth gym with him.
Mayuzumi leaned at oneside of the gym wall, his arms crossed and not forgetting his usual blank look that is simply having no expression unlike Kuroko's undecipherable blank face. But his aura seems to be questioning Kuroko something but neither knew what. Kuroko hesitated the question that hang at the tip of his lips not surrendering to Mayuzumi's expressionless face. Kuroko bounced the ball once before catching it again his hand. He is not sure if…
"You do realize it's half an hour past our training session, the other members must have gone back home already."
Mayuzumi quirked his eyebrows and gave a glance at his watch, nodding he said. "It seems like so. I didn't notice the time had fly by, you are dismissed." Mayuzumi turned around to pick up his bag and make way to the exit door.
Kuroko is definitely worried now. Did he did something wrong?
Kuroko pack his things up and slung the bag on his shoulder and walked to the storeroom to store the basketball before going back to his apartment. Although when he opened the exit door to the fourth gym, Mayuzumi-senpai was seen standing in front of the door, clearly had been waiting for Kuroko. Kuroko gave no reaction to it though it is a bit of a surprised he did not feel even the littlest bit shocked. Kuroko step out of the gym and then slam back the door shut before it was locked.
Kuroko turned to Mayuzumi-senpai waiting for him to speak.
"I'd like to talk." Mayuzumi said emotionlessly then he started walk towards the school gate, signaling Kuroko to follow.
Kuroko trudge quietly behind his senior, feeling wary out of nowhere. Walking in silence until they arrived at a fast food restaurant, Kuroko look up at the name, Maji Burger. Considering it is a known fast food restaurant it is not overly weird to find another franchise in another district in Japan.
Mayuzumi pointed him to find them a place to seat while he go to line up at the queue and order them something to eat. Kuroko nodded without a sound and left Mayuzumi to queue, his eyes wandering about for an empty seat, preferably next to the window and luckily there is a lot of empty tables for two that is positioned right at the window. Somehow he was reminded of Kagami when he took a seat. A small chuckle break through his lips when he remembered the first couple of days with Kagami at Maji in Tokyo.
The first time he saw the tall redhead he was only going on about using him to show to the other Generation of Miracles of how wrong they are about him, how he can survive without them but of course not. Kuroko could never play with somebody's feeling that had done him nothing wrong and so from a simple intention it turned out into a beautiful friendship. Kagami had done him a lot, saving him multiple of times especially during their tournament with Touou Academy.
It feels strange not to have the taller redhead around him because they are always together, they are partners afterall and best of friends too. They met up during the weekends, school holidays, they went to dinner at Maji Burger almost everyday after practice, they had went out shopping for basketball shoes together, and there was a lot of other things that he would like to do with Kagami and the Seirin boy basketball members. But mostly he misses Kagami than the others.
Kuroko look out of the window and continued to reminisce his moments with Seirin, and Kagami. He was so busy deluding in his own thought that he didn't even notice Mayuzumi slipping in to the seat in front of him, staring at him. Looking at him sighing, smiling through his eyes, the edge of his lips curved downwards, forehead creasing in the slightest into a frown and a lot of other expresssion he might have accidentally displayed.
Mayuzumi took a slurp from his strawberry shake before drawing out Kuroko's attention. "Kuroko." Kuroko was pulled away from his memories of him and Kagami first match with Kise Ryouta and blinked at Mayuzumi. Slightly annoyed at being interrupted while he was saydreaming something nice. Mayuzumi pushed the tray to Kuroko after having taken his portion of dinner, strawberry milkshake, a teriyaki burger and french fries. Kuroko eyes the contents of the tray, taking the vanilla milkshake and stared at the cheeseburger in wrapping. Should he eat?
"Kuroko." Mayuzumi called him again and Kuroko turned his gaze to face Mayuzumi's.
Kuroko said nothing.
Mayuzumi satisfied that Kuroko is now facing him continued. "I want to know something. Why did you move here, to Kyoto, to Rakuzan?" It has been plaguing his mind since the first day Kuroko appeared in Rakuzan Academy. And he of course, he wanted the answers.
Kuroko was quiet for sometime trying take in the question and arrange the words to sentences to form an answer to such a deadly question. What is the answer actually? If he thinks about it, during when Akashi persuaded him, the reasons Akashi gave him, well there is only one word that requires to answer that question. "Akashi-kun." That is his answer. That he found logical, and also…true. Akashi persuaded him, even threatened him.
Mayuzumi was a little bit irked by Kuroko's answer. Kuroko moved out from his family to stay in Kyoto in an apartment alone, leave the school that gave him so many memories, the team that he had worked hard with to achieve the Winter Cup. All because of Akashi Seijuurou? Does Kuroko Tetsuya has no selfishness for himself? Somehow a spark of anger light up in him and he asked his next question, without noticing that his voice was laced with a little bit of ire.
"What was Akashi to you?" Also another question. "Why is he so important to you?"
Kuroko was a little bit wide-eyed at the question, no he isn't ready to answer that question, he can't, he won't, he will not. So he just stayed quiet and shut his lips. His eyes staring back at Mayuzumi with a little impudence.
Mayuzumi cleared his throat, clearly Kuroko is refusing to answer his simplistic but deep questions. Fine then, he shall just twist his question. "Answer this one then, what are you to Akashi?" A little bit of a sly smile quirked at his lips.
Because from Kuroko's panicking eyes, he knows that Kuroko Tetsuya doesn't have an answer.
