"Maya!"

Maya turned towards the voice and saw Riley off in the distance.

Riley noticed her friend and ran over, Maya meeting her in the middle.

They hugged each other tightly, Maya crying into Riley's neck. It was raining, but they didn't care. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't," Maya choked out.

"It's okay, Peaches, I know it's a hard thing to have to go through." She paused to kiss the side of Maya's head. "I don't blame you for running away." Riley felt Maya whimper against her neck, and that made her heart ache. Her best friend was feeling broken again, just when she thought that everything was fine. Nope. She then felt Maya shiver and get closer to her. Even though she didn't want to, she let her go and looked at her, noticing how her eyes were red and puffy. Riley cupped Maya's face in her hands and softly asked, "Do you want to head back now?"

Maya quickly shook her head.

Riley understood. She tenderly kissed her on the forehead and asked, "Well, it's cold out and it's raining. Do you just want to snuggle or something?"

Maya hesitated, but still agreed.

Riley took her hand and lead her over to a park bench. They sat down and Riley put an arm around her and pulled her closer.

Maya leaned against Riley's shoulder and shivered again.

Riley nuzzled against the side of Maya's head, trying to help both of them get warm.

Maya nuzzled her back, wrapping an arm around Riley's waist. "I'm so sorry, Riles..."

Riley softly kissed her on the cheek. "It's alright. Don't worry about it."

Maya felt the tears coming back to her eyes.

Riley noticed, so she started to stroke Maya's cheek, comforting her the best she could.

Maya looked up at her, then inched even further against Riley. It was absolutely freezing outside.

Riley let her get under her chin to get warmer, sighing as she rested her chin on Maya's head. "I love you, Maya. Don't forget about that, okay? I'll aways be here for you." Riley felt Maya shiver again, so she attempted to bring her closer, despite it being impossible.

"I love you too..." Maya took deep a breath and continued, "I left because it felt too fast. I was afraid that I would be left behind... again... I just couldn't watch without all of the bad thoughts coming back..."

Riley gently kissed the top of her head. "I know you feel that way because of your dad. But Shawn cares about you and your mom, he won't just leave you."

"It was just so overwhelming..."

"Shh, I know, Maya."

Maya leaned out from Riley's chin, even though she was still cold. she looked up at Riley and softly kissed her on the forehead.

Riley leaned into it and smiled.

"Thanks for running after me, Riles," Maya whispered in her ear.

"Well I couldn't not go after you," Riley softly pointed out. She then sighed. "We need to head back now, they're probably worried."

Maya nodded. "Yeah, that's probably best."

Riley smiled a little. "Well, let's go then."
