Sesshomaru glared at his ringing phone hastily dug out of his pockets. It was his father, it was always his father. He had the worst timing imaginable and Rin had been so close to giving in, he scowled before completely blanking his features and answering, refusing to relinquish his hold on Rin even though she tugged. He turned her around and settled her against his chest so that she would be comfortable and he could stroke the soft ruff of fur and feathers. Slightly calmed he finally spoke in a bored voice. "Yes Father."

"Sesshomaru where are you?! Not only has the student you supposedly delivered home missing, but you have a marriage meeting in fifteen minutes and you're nowhere to be seen!"

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes and bent to kiss Rin's head gently before he replied.

"Father I rejected that meeting when you presented it to me and I've rejected it several times since as such I am not required to be there." He moved to playing with her ears and he wrapped his tail around her as she squirmed cutely and only the desire not to be heard by his father stopped her from squeaking. "Son this is for the company, we need this connection to be made. It will help us expand the school as well-"

Sesshomaru interrupted "Why don't you offer your other son then, the one you made heir to th company."

Sesshomaru's father had made his favorite the heir in his will, something that Sesshomaru had never quite forgiven. Still Sesshomaru may have been able to move on from that if his father hadn't tried to make him do all of the duties that would be taken away from him as soon as Inuyasha started training at 18. At which point he would have been moved to the position of his brother's secretary. Secretary. Not even Vice CEO or co-CEO No he would have been under his brother undoubtedly doing all his work and cleaning up all of his messes. His father should have known better but his father never tried to know him at all.

"He got two girls pregnant, twins, and I have to take care of that scandal first. Besides she asked for you specifically."

Sesshomaru snorted. He not surprised. Inuyasha was a spoiled horndog who constantly smell of a different female and sometimes alcohol. His father thought that having some responsibility might calm him down but it hadn't helped. Maybe having two children would.

"Well then father, it looks as if you have a large problem. You chose the wrong heir."

"Damn you Sesshomaru she is the heir to the Hāfu clan!"

Rin flinched and Sesshomaru's eyes widened in shock. The Hāfu clan was in his father's house, they were that close? He kept his voice cool as he replied. "Oh and who is this oh so mysterious hier."

"Kagura Onigumo. She's a beautiful girl and perfectly trained to be the perfect wife apparently She asked for yo specifically and marrying her is a clause for getting a contract with them. The Hāfu clan is very powerful son, you know that they make some of the strongest and longest living warriors. They are intelligent frugal and most of all rich! They have companies in everything from oil to jewelry. They only mate their heirs with those who are powerfu. I know that Kagura is a half breed but can't you look past that. With her you could be head of the Hāfu clan and their companies in a few years. So come down to the house and at least try don't let you bitterness for me ruin this family son."

"I am only following the example you set father."

With those parting words Sesshomaru ended the call and shut off the phone. He rested his head gently on her shoulder and nuzzled her neck as he let her scent relax him. But her scent was spiked with fear so he nipped one soft ear to distract her. "Did you recognize the name mate?"She jolted before speaking in a low rushed voice. "Kagura is my cousin and the one who lied about me going into a rage and hitting her. She was a bully and second in line to be heir. Her father was the one who killed my mother as she shielded me. She forgot. She forgot that I was immune to poison and she died tossing me to safety she was overtaken by the cloud of poison smoke and I never saw her again. He was her brother and she was the ruler. She wasn't supposed to mate my father because he's so weak and already mixed, but they made an exception because of his intelligence and speed. That's why she passed me to him. She couldn't outrun it, she was already injured. They both saved me. But now this, the Onigumo family again. They're so close, we have to move again. Why is she so close what if they've already caught my dad, I have to find him I have to warn him-"

"RIN, calm yourself mate" She finally seemed to be able to focus on his voice but the looked she gave him seemed devoid of life. He kissed her gently and his voice was even softer, "I will protect you Rin and everything you hold dear. I swear to you Rin no harm will come to you or your father. Trust me."

Tears filled her eyes at his declaration. Rin didn't want to run. She was so tired of running. The only way to stay was to entrust herself to either Koga or Sesshomaru.

"Stay Rin. Let me care for you, let me protect you, let me court you. Let me be what you need Rin."

She broke down and cried. It had been so long and she was so scared and so tired. She looked into his eyes and slowly through her tears that he was already gently wiping away, she nodded. The fierce look of joy in his eyes let her know deep inside, she'd made the right choice. So finally she let herself break down an cry herself to sleep on his warm chest. Sesshomaru looked at his proud strong and vulnerable mate and decided that anything causing her this much pain would have to be eliminated with extreme prejudice. His demon growled in agreement.
