Rin awoke slowly. Her head throbbed and her arms felt strained. She opened her eyes but the world remained black. She could feel that she was in a chair her arms tied behind her. Her head was fuzzy and she only knew that nothing good end came from being hit over the head and dragged to a new location. She struggled for a moment to test how tight the bonds were and found that they were handcuffs. She smiled, whoever had kidnapped her didn't know her very well. Metal was easier than the ropes for her. Do to her months of torture she had a pretty high threshold for pain and due demon attributes her healing was quick as well. Escaping would be as easy as two quick jerks to her thumb. First, just to make sure that it wasn't some kind of trap to lure her into using her powers She didn't smell anything, which was strange, and she didn't trust the silence that surrounded her. She decided her escape would have to be as human as possible. It would be troublesome not to be able to heal her wound but if at all possible she didn't want to risk exposing her and her father's secret. So she grit her teeth grabbed her thumb and yanked quickly downward biting down on a gasp of pain. Carefully she slid her hand out of the handcuff. She forcibly slowed down her healing by biting her tongue and directing it elsewhere before jamming her thumb back in place. With a hiss of pain she held her throbbing hand and looked around. She almost rolled her eyes. She was in a jail cell with glass instead of bars at the front. There was a nice bed and the chair she'd been tied to as well as a sink a toilet and a mirror. The people who had kidnapped her had way too much money to waste. She didn't see her father anywhere so she was their only target which meant it couldn't be the wolves or Kagura which left... Who in the hell had kidnapped her? There was a light knocking on the tank, turned to see who it was and this time didn't hold back her need to roll her eyes.
"Really? Out of all people, you? I don't even know who you are!"
"You wound me darling? We met at school remember? You pretended not to like me so I'd pay more attention to you."
Rin thought long and hard as she stared at her brown haired captor.
His face annoys me. She thought and that's when everything clicked into place for her.
"You're the annoying fake Kohaku. I told you I don't like you because I don't and clearly I was right to reject you." She looked at him consideringly as his entire demeanor began to change. "I believe the word for people like you is sociopath."
Kohaku laughed at that, not a pleasant laugh but a cruel one that filled the dark and empty hall.
"Oh, Rin. The only one to see through my façade, to reject me how I wish I could seduce you and show you in full what kind of man I really am." He looked her up and down in a way that made her feel both dirty and violated. "Maybe I still will if you're a good little demon." He laughed again at Rin's horrified expression. "Yes Rin I know so you might as well let that hand heal." He grinned as she glared. "Oh you want to know how I know your little secret? Well, Miss Sakura I was employed by a certain person to hunt you down. Can you guess who?"
Horror filled her eyes her eyes as one name came to mind.
"Kagura." The name was said with equal parts horror and fury.
Kohaku grinned "Well she did say I could deal with you however I like and, though I am sure she meant for me to kill you I'd rather add you to my personal collection." He said casually. Rin was both confused and frightened, curious as to what he meant but afraid to ask.
"Go ahead my dear ask what you want to know I promise I won't bite." He said with a show of teeth that Rin wouldn't dare to call a smile. Swallowing her fear was hard but she finally got the courage to ask, besides she really was curious.
"What do you mean your collection?" Why was his smile getting more terrifying?
"I'm so glad you asked Sakura my dear. If you'll turn to your left you'll see a large window allow me to, illuminate your situation." Suddenly there were lights, lights everywhere so bright Rin instinctively recoiled covering her eyes. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the bright lights. It wasn't until then that Rin realized she'd been standing in near complete darkness. She hadn't reapplied the contacts that dimmed her vision to human levels so she hadn't noticed.
As her eyes her eyes adjusted Rin saw a multitude of cells just like hers, and just like hers most of them were occupied. Not everyone was a demon through which confused Rin. She counted three humans. She turned to Kohaku with a confused look.
"Welcome to my Menagerie of the Wicked and Strange. You see not many people object to locking demons up in cages and as a demon slayer and assassin I get many requests to kill demons. But as fun as that is it does get boring after awhile. The blood and screaming can only satisfy for so long. So I started this side business. Cages filled with those my clients assign me to get rid of, a collection of the beautiful and strange. My masterpiece!"
Horrified Rin could only tremble. "But there are humans here." She said shakily. Kohaku grinned an innocent carefree grin. "Well, I am sometimes commissioned to get rid of a pesky human or two. Those were the ones who were pregnant with demon offspring." He smiled angelically and somehow it was scarier than his crazed grins. "I already have buyers for their young. I might even get commissioned for them to have more."
"Now that's enough questions dear. Get settled I have another human to retrieve, two in fact and their ripe for the breeding! The males are of course in a separate building. So your father is alive and well, for now. Be good!"
With a jaunty wave a metal door slid down over that side covering Kohaku from view.
Yep it's the Kohaku no one asked for! Tell me what you think.
