AN: Hey guys, I know it's been a long time. I'm really sorry for that. I took a step away from OuaT ff when I stopped watching it. But I promised you all that I would finish this. I've made some changes to it and the newer version will be posted to AO3. Updating every chapter here would kind of suck though, so just a couple of the changes that will effect your reading here are that I changed calling Maleficient Mel to Mal. Idk why I didn't to start with. I also changed Mulan's name back to Mulan because of OuaT introducing a canon character named Lily. The other changes, best as I recall are all grammar errors, tense changes, that kind of thing. Again, I'm so, so sorry for leaving this abandoned for so long. Forgive me, please.
Chapter 15
Two months later…
The Poisoned Apples had finally completed their album. The studio was making preparations for a release date and then a tour to follow, but for the first time in her life that didn't mean much to Emma Swan. She was standing in the airport with her friends while they were waiting for the most important people in their lives to land. They were all that mattered in that moment. Her heart pounded when they first came into sight, and she took off at a sprint.
Henry met her halfway, having run ahead of his mother as soon as he laid eyes on Emma. "Kid! I swear you've grown a foot! I've missed you! Did you finish the song?" she whispered the last part to make sure Regina couldn't hear as she approached.
"I missed you too, Emma! And yes, I did," he whispered back. He didn't let her go until Regina cleared her throat behind him.
Emma looked up and grinned, "Well hello there, gorgeous." She snaked her arms around her girlfriend for the first time since they had made it official. She decided in that moment that she would never find a place in the world that made her as happy as the space between Regina's arms. She fought with all her might not to kiss her senseless right there. She didn't want to draw too much attention to them, so instead she kissed Regina lightly and quickly. She almost immediately regretted that decision as it left her wanting so much more.
"We have waited too long for this," Regina whispered in her ear before she slowly pulled away, kissing Emma's cheek as she did.
"Tell me about it. I swear the best form of torture for me now is being kept away from you guys," the blonde replied. She waved across the airport when she saw that Granny, Mary Margaret, and Aurora had joined the others.
She grabbed Regina's hand as they made their way over to the rest of the group, excited that she was finally able to do so. "Hey, guys! We've missed you," she told them as she hugged each of them.
"We missed you all too," Granny told her. "I hope you know how much I love all of you because I hate flying."
"We know," Ruby told her. "Thank you for coming, Granny. Mother's Day weekend would have been hella weird without you."
"You're kidding!" they suddenly heard David shout from a few feet away. "That's what you've been hiding?"
"What's going on?" Mulan asked.
"Guys! I'm gonna be a dad!" David yelled excitedly, as he lifted Mary Margaret off the floor and spun her around.
"I wanted to tell him in person," Mary Margaret said, blushing furiously while he set her back down.
"Oh my God! What?! That's great!" Emma exclaimed.
Everyone offered their congratulations to the happy couple as they made their way over to the baggage claim area to collect their things before they all separated to do their own things. Emma wanted to take Regina and Henry out to her favorite little café that she had discovered. Granny just wanted to nap, so Ruby took her back to the hotel. Mary Margaret and David went to celebrate their parenthood, and Aurora had insisted that Mulan take her shopping.
During the cab ride to the café, Henry was distracted by trying to see everything out of his window all at once. Emma decided to take the opportunity to fully kiss Regina. It started soft and sweet and deepened as it went on. Neither of them knew how long it lasted, but they broke apart laughing when Henry finally turned around and mumbled, "Gross," under his breath. His smile let them know that he wasn't really all that bothered by it though.
"That was the kiss you deserved back at the airport," Emma told her girlfriend. "I was just trying not to draw too much attention to us."
"Why's that?"
"I wasn't sure if you'd be comfortable with it, honestly. I know this is all still new for you."
Regina smiled and grabbed Emma's hand, pulling it in to kiss her knuckles gently. "Thank you for being so considerate, but let people stare. Let them talk. I don't care. I'm here for you, no one else."
The blonde felt a flutter in her chest and kissed Regina again quickly. By this time, they had gotten to the café. They had lunch, and then Emma showed them around some of her other favorite places in town.
When they made it back to the hotel room that evening, they were all exhausted. Emma pulled out the sofa bed for Henry, and the two women made sure he was settled for the night before they turned in as well.
The next morning Regina woke to find that she was in bed alone. She was slightly surprised until she heard voices down the hall. She rolled out of bed and made her way toward the sound of her favorite people. As she got closer she realized that they were singing together. She couldn't make out the words, but she didn't think it was a song she had ever heard before.
When she finally saw them sitting at the kitchen bar together her heart leapt into her throat. They sat facing one another, and Henry was playing what looked to be one of Ruby's guitars very softly while Emma was singing words written on a piece of paper. She cleared her throat to let them know she was there, and to keep herself from tearing up at the sight of them.
"Mom!" Henry jumped up and ran to hug her. "Did we wake you up? We were trying to be quiet. Happy Mother's Day!"
"Good morning, Henry." She placed a kiss to his forehead. "You didn't wake me, and thank you. What were you guys singing just now?"
"You can't hear the whole thing just yet," Emma told her. "Breakfast first."
It was then that Regina noticed the mountain of food on the counter. There had to be at least a dozen pancakes there, along with bacon and eggs. "You cooked for me?" she grinned.
"We did. Henry helped. Happy Mother's Day."
"Thank you."
After they ate and washed the dishes, Emma turned to Henry, "You ready, kid?"
"Absolutely," he grinned. He took Regina by the hand and lead her over to sit on the sofa. "Mom, I've been working on this surprise for you for a few months now. I know it's frustrated you, but I hope that this makes up for it."
He and Emma each grabbed a bar stool and pulled them over to sit directly in front of her. Henry once again picked up Ruby's guitar and Emma picked up the sheet of lyrics she had earlier that morning. What happened next moved Regina to tears. Henry began to play, and they sang the sweetest duet that Regina had ever heard.
E: She's the sky that holds the clouds
E: She's the lady of the house
H: A blind believer in all I dare to be
E: There's no safer place I've found
H: Than the shoulder of her white night gown
H: Oh I've got the best and the worst of her in me
H: And I'd share her if I could
E: So the wars would all be over
H: 'Cause she'd raise us all as friends
E: And no one would ever wonder if somebody wanted them
H: We'd walk on grass that's greener
E: And our cares would all be freer
H: If the world had a mother like mine
E: She's my one great love
E: She's the one I wanted most
H: She's the light in the window of the house I grew up in
E: She takes the midnight call
H: She's the bravest of us all
E: Still she sings in the garden, she let's her hair down in
E: Oh the wars would all be over
H: 'Cause she'd raise us all as friends
E: And no one would ever wonder, if somebody wanted them
H: Tonight would be easier
E: And our dreams would all be deeper
H: If the world had a mother like mine
E: Don't go away, don't go away from me
H: Oh I understand, she is a helping hand still
E: I have to say
E: She's the sky that holds the clouds
H: She's the lady of our house
H: We both need her, but no one more than me
E: Oh the wars would all be over
H: 'Cause she'd raise us all as friends
E: And no one would ever wonder, if somebody wanted them
H: We'd walk on grass that's greener
E: And the dishes would all be cleaner
H: If the world had a mother like mine
H: Oh like mine
Regina was openly sobbing by the time they had finished, and they both jumped up to wrap her in a group hug. "Thank you. Thank you both. That was beautiful."
"I love you, Mom," Henry told her sincerely. "I'm sorry for being such a jerk to you sometimes."
"I love you too." She offered him watery smile.
They spent the rest of the day together doing whatever Regina wanted to do, which was staying in the hotel with Emma and Henry. They were all that mattered to her.
Another AN: The song I used for this chapter is a modified version of Mother Like Mine by The Band Perry
