Christian's POV:
"I know. I consider myself privileged to be loved by Phoebe. I want to ask you both for your permission to marry her. Mr and Mrs Grey, may I ask your daughter for her hand in marriage?"
I feel all the air leave my lungs as I process his request. I never expected this. I can feel Ana look at me, but I don't take my eyes off Joshua.
"Does our daughter know why you wanted to talk to us? Does she know that you are intending to ask her to marry you?" I inquire.
"Yes. I told Phoebe that I wanted to marry her before I had surgery, but I would wait till she told me that she was ready. Then before we flew out of New York she told me that she was ready, so if you both give me permission, then I will ask her properly."
"You asked her just before your surgery?" I narrow my eyes. Josh nods to confirm. "That seems a little impulsive. Maybe you were driven by the emotion of the situation and not thinking clearly" I query.
"I know it may seem like that, but I was going to ask Phoebe before I got ill. I love your daughter, and I would do anything to make her happy. I am aware that I hurt her when I left, but that is not going to happen again. She owns me" Josh informs us. Sincerity pours out of him, but I need more assurance than his words.
"If you would excuse us." I hold my hand out for Ana. Both she and Josh look shocked.
"Of course" Josh replies looking confused and nervous.
I lead Ana out of the room and up the stairs. Once we are out ear shot, Ana starts to question me. "Christian, where are we going? Josh was ready to convulse down stair when we walked out of the room."
"We need to talk to our daughter" I reply. When we reach Phoebe's room, we find her sitting cross legged on her bed and the door open. She was expecting us to come up and see her.
"I thought you were going to have a shower?" I comment.
"I am after you both finish. I inferred that you would want to talk to me after Josh informed you about that nature of what he wanted to ask. You did tell him yes didn't you?" Phoebe asks, excited and jumpy at the same time.
"We haven't said anything. Josh's request was clearly a surprise as you should be able to imagine" Ana says. I watch Phoebe as she fails to make eye contact with either Ana or I. Did she expect us to anticipate this engagement?
"Josh is downstairs and told we told him that we wanted to talk to you first." I update our daughter.
"Wait! Josh asked for your permission and then you just left him alone, in the main room? How? Why?" Phoebe stands up quickly and pulls at her hair. "Damn, he is going to be a wreck! Shit! His blood pressure is going to go through the roof that he is probably going to start rejecting his kidney! Fuck, he is probably shitting bricks" I raise my eyebrows in humor at my daughter over exaggerated comments but thin my lips due to her poor use of words. I am about to open my mouth and chastise her when Ana stops me.
"Phoebe Grace Grey, stop right now. Your father and I want to talk to you before we talk to Josh any further. Sit down and calm down." Ana says sternly. Phoebe sits back down, but, not before rolling her eyes.
"I am not a child" Phoebe mumbles before straightening up.
"Then don't act like one" Ana replies.
"Okay what you would like to ask me" Phoebe asks, now acting more like her age.
"Do you really want to marry Joshua?" I ask straight up.
"Yes." Phoebe says nodding.
"Do you want to marry him because he is the one that you want to be with or because of a sense of duty because of everything he had to go through recently?" I quiz her.
"Josh is the one I want to be with. I have told you both how much I love him, and that hasn't changed. It won't change. He is the only one I have ever wanted to be with. I love him so much" Phoebe says calmly, but with so much emotion.
I move the chair closer to Phoebe and take her hands, which causes Ana to move and sit next to our daughter on the bed. After years of marriage, she knows exactly what I am thinking. I don't even have to ask Ana, I know she is thinking the same thing I am.
"Phoebe, you do realize that even though Josh has had an outstanding recovery, a transplant does not give someone …." I sympathetically explain until Phoebe puts her finger on my lips.
"Dad and Mom, I know. I have spoken to Josh's doctors, and I know all the statistics. I know that some people survive a year and some live for more than twenty plus years. Josh isn't stupid, and he is extremely careful to take his medication, and follow doctors' orders. Also, thanks you Dad, he has the best doctor in the state."
I run my hands through my hair before looking at Ana. She gives me a small nod, and her perfect powder blue eyes tell me everything I need to know. I lean up and kiss Phoebe on her forehead.
"Just remember princess that no matter what happens, today or tomorrow, your mother and I love you and will support you. Of course, I will continue to be over-bearing, and over protective, even when you will be are married, and swear if ….." I take a deep breath and become horribly serious. "If Josh ever hurts you, then his renal issues will be nothing compared to what I will do to him"
"I know. Thank you dad and Mom"
Ana and I head back to the main room, where Josh is a little worse for wear. He stands as we approach, out of politeness and probably as a defense. I can't help but snicker.
"Joshua you have our permission to ask our daughter to marry you. If it is her wish when you ask her, then you will have our support" I announce. Joshua stands there frozen at first and then the largest smile grows on his face.
"Thank you." Relief washes off Josh, and he takes my hand to shake it and hugs Ana. "I promise that I will do everything I can, to make Phoebe happy."
"Mind that you do." I warn narrowing my eyes. Though this is a mild reaction for me, it is sufficient to deliver a clear message. Little does he know that I intend to present a more in depth message later, however; I will wait for an appropriate time though. Ana and I watch as Josh walks out the room and heads off to see Phoebe.
"Well… well…well. If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it." Ana says now standing in front on me and looping her fingers into the loops of my jeans.
"And what is that, Mrs Grey?" I tilt my head to the side as I pull her close to me and bury my nose in her hair.
"You didn't intimidate Josh. I thought you would have gone all CEO and over-protective father on him, but you were ever so composed." I nibble on Ana's ear and then grin at her.
"Christian… no," Ana says nervously.
"Anastasia, I have been planning this from the second Phoebe entered this world, besides I promised a few other people that they could help" Instantly I put my finger on Ana's lips, making her frown. Damn! Ana looks hot as hell when she does that.
Phoebe's POV:
It's Tuesday morning, and Josh and I have been in Seattle for over a week now. I have returned to work at Grey Enterprise, and Josh is working a few days a week again at his firms Seattle office and then working on law briefs here at the sound. We have commenced to develop a smooth daily routine, though I hope for us to move soon. My parents have been extremely accommodating, and even though the house and land are rather extensive, we need to seek out our own space.
I choose a necklace and genuinely wish I had already been reunited with my ring from Josh to complete my outfit. It has been ten days since my parents gave him their joint blessing to propose. I sigh and head downstairs to join them all for breakfast. Josh stands as he sees me coming down the stairs and starts to prepare a coffee for me. He started this little morning ritual as soon as he was well enough.
"Good morning Mom and Dad," I say politely as I pass them and head towards Josh.
"Morning Phoebe" they both reply in unison.
"Your coffee as you like it," Josh says formally and then smiles at me.
"You know you don't have to make coffee every morning," I say softly, so my parents don't hear. I look over, and they seem to be engaged in conversation either way, or at least are pretending to.
"I like to help to start your day, even if it is in this little way" Josh reply's in a low and equally quiet voice.
"I rather prefer the other way you start my morning, and there isn't anything little about that." I say smiling shyly, desperately trying no tot blush.
"You are incorrigible Miss Phoebe Grey" Josh, and I both forget where we are, and he starts to run his hand down my back.
"I would rather be incorrigible as Mrs…" I am unable to finish my sentence as my father interjects.
"Phoebe, are you going to have breakfast. We have a morning meeting today, and Josh aren't you due in your office this morning?" My father announces, reminding us of our surroundings. It is only 7:30am and none of us need to be at our offices for more than an hour and a half.
We both return to the table, and I commence to eat as my father and Josh make plans to play golf this weekend with Uncle Elliot and Ted while I converse with my mother. Ted is partnering up with Josh. Supposedly they are going to show dad and Uncle Elliot, how to seriously play. I love how Josh is close again with my brother. They both need each others friendship as they share so many memories.
Due to work, Josh has left the house, earlier than usual over a major case. He is still a senior partner in his firm even though he is only going into the office part-time. I am about to head out to meet my father, when I call out to my mother who is still getting ready for work.
"Bye Mom. I will see you tonight"
"Phoebe, wait" My mother is quickly running down the stairs to catch me.
"What's wrong?" I ask worried. My mom looks a little frazzled, which is unlike her.
"Nothing. I just wanted to say goodbye to you this morning and wish you a fabulous day" My mother tries to sound casual, but then hugs me tightly.
"Bye mom. I hope you have a fantastic day also." My mother hugs me tighter and doesn't let me go.
"Love you Phoebe"
"Love you too Mom. Are you a right?" I ask a little worried. Mom and I have always been extraordinarily close, but something feels off.
"Of course I am. You better go, you know that your father isn't that patient" We both giggle.
I walk out to find my father on his cell phone, waiting for me. He seems preoccupied, but I don't dwell on it, and the second we are both in the Audi SUV, I pull out my touch pad. Dad and I have been spending this time discussing current mergers and acquisitions to bring me back to speed with what is happening at Grey Enterprise. However I notice that my father is a little off today as he isn't actually listening.
"Dad? …..Mr Grey! The car is on fire!" I call out.
"What? Fire... Sorry Phoebe. My mind was elsewhere" my father admits. This is so out of character for him that it is actually unnerving.
"Where is elsewhere?"
"Doesn't matter. Are you still happy?" My father says flipping the topic back to me, and I know exactly what he means.
"Yes. Very" I tell him honestly.
"Your mother and I have noticed. We are happy for you and Josh." My father says somberly
"Then why do you seem so subdued?"
"Subdued?" My dad says repeated the word as if testing it out.
"Yes. Now stop avoiding the question. If you are happy for me and Josh, then why you are acting so down?" My father looks at his watch, and it occurs to me that he isn't going to answer my question. I decide to check my schedule on my tablet.
"Hey dad, we don't have a morning meeting" I tell him showing my schedule. It is so unlike my father to make little errors like this. He is always on top of his schedule and even mine.
"No, but there is somewhere you need to be today." My father states mysteriously. I look outside and realize that we are not headed towards Grey House. I was so focused on work that I totally ignored my surroundings.
"Where?" I ask, and then my father puts his hand on mine and desperately tries to offer me a smile, but can't seem to manage it.
"Phoebe, the reason I am a little sombre is that I am being forced to realize that you are no longer my little princess. You have grown up, and you don't need me…"
"Dad I will always need you. Surely the last so many months proven that, regardless of the fact that I am twenty-two?" I remind him.
"But you don't need me in the way you use to. I loved it when you were little and use to stay in bed pretending to be asleep until either myself or your mother went into get you and gave you cuddles. You don't need me to check your homework or teach you to ride a bike or car. You don't need to scare the monsters away from under your bed or to wipe your tears away. If I was to be, I would even go so far to say that you don't need as much protection these days, but there is no way I will ever relent on that matter." My father admits to me.
"I know, and I am used to having a CPO."
"I just wish you hadn't grown up so quickly" My father admits to me.
"Dad regardless of my age, I will always be your little girl." I tell my father reaching up and kissing his cheek. This seems to placate my father a little, and I hope he knows I am being honest.
"Well then my little girl, we have arrived." My father announces and gets out of the car and holds his hand out to help me out of the car. I look around, and we are in a garage, but not any garage. We are at Escala.
"What are we doing here?"
"I told you, there is somewhere you need to be today."
We both enter the elevator, and I notice that my father hasn't selected the penthouse rather we are headed towards the roof. "The roof?" I ask.
"Yes" My father says controlled, and I know he isn't going to elaborate.
As the elevators doors open, the image of the man that owns my heart appears. He looks youthful, and the morning light only highlights his wholesome looks further. Behind him is Charlie Tango, my father's helicopter. My brother, Ted exists from the cockpit, from doing a pre-flight check it seems, and shakes my Josh's hand. They talk briefly, but I can't make out what they are saying before my brother walks towards me and our father.
"The helicopter is ready to go. It's all ready for you Fifi and Josh" Ted announces.
"I didn't even know I was going somewhere today. Are one of you flying us?" I ask Ted and my father.
"I think you and Josh should have some privacy. Also, Fifi, you know how protective dad is, don't give him any ideas. " Ted advises me and grins. Our father narrows his eyes at Ted, but softens his look when he looks at me.
"I have Stephen flying you and Taylor has organized for Cameron to go with you both as your CPO. We love you princess and listen to your heart! When you arrive back, ring your mom first, she is upset that she isn't here with you right now, but we didn't want you to get suspicious." My father advises me. Cameron is one of the newer CPO's employed by my family. He is young, crazy fit and never seems to get tired.
"I will. If you speak to mom during the day, tell her I love her." I say goodbye to my father and brother, and then turn on my heel. I walk towards Josh and never once take my eyes off his.
"Is this why you left the house earlier than normal this morning." I inquire
"Yes." Josh replies
"So you have been waiting for me?"
"Yes. Want to go for a ride?"
"Absolutely. Where are we going?" Josh gets a naughty grin on his face and pulls me close. I close my eyes as I feel his lips on mine. Oh my even his kisses are perfect. Josh leads me to Stephen and then pulls out a silk scarf.
"I need to blindfold you" What? Blindfold me?
"Why?"
"Just trust me" I nod. Josh wraps the soft and cool material around my eyes until I cannot see. I feel Josh's hand take mine and extend my index finger out.
"Phoebe, lower your hand." I do as he requested and feel some paper. "Move your hand around and then stop at any point of the page with your finger." I oblige his strange request, and then feel him move the paper away.
"Can I see now?"
"If you wish, but I kind of like this on you" Josh removes the scarf and I am forced to blink a couple of times as I readjust to the light. "No, I was wrong. I actually prefer to look at your blue eyes." Josh compliments me, and I feel a slight warmth on my cheeks.
"You don't even know how beautiful you are, do you?" Josh says, and before I can say anything, his lips are pressed on mine and willingly I let him possess me. We strap ourselves into our seats and fly in a south-easterly direction. We have been flying for about forty minutes when Stephen tells us that we will be landing, and we arrive at a rather rural and isolated area.
"Where are we?" I ask Josh.
"I have no idea, and don't ask any more questions over our location. I will answer them later. Let's go and check the town, but first you and I need to get a change of clothes." Truer words have never been spoken. Josh is in a business suit, whilst I am wearing a black skirt, white top and black blazer in high heels. We both stand out horribly. Thank gosh the main town is close by.
The town center comprise of just a few streets, but it seems to have everything one would need. There is a small grower, diner, a few stores selling off and end, a bookstore and a clothes shop.
"This shop," Josh says and points to the clothing store. The store is lined with casual clothing and I look at Josh surprised as he takes control and starts to pull clothes off the rack. I try not to laugh as he checks out a few shirts that obviously don't come close to those which occupy his wardrobe.
"What are grinning at Miss Grey?"
"Just you. You are exceedingly… adaptable" I inform him.
"Thank you. You should choose a change of clothes and definably a different pair of shoes." I agree and walk over to the female section. There certainly isn't much of a range, but I choose some clothes and a pair of sneakers. After checking with the sale assistant that I can change into them and then pay, I quickly go to get changed. Josh is sitting on the small chair once I exit, and is sporting a pair of jeans, a flannel top and a cowboys hat. I try not to laugh at the scene.
"Nice outfit," Josh says smiling.
"Am I still the most beautiful woman in the world?" I ask to joke. I have chosen a pair of denim cargo pants, a sweat shirt and a pair of plain sneakers.
"Definitely!"
"Sir your clothes costs $40 and ma'am yours is $52. So that is $92 in total." The sales assistant informs us. Josh hands over a hundred and tells them to keep the change. Wow that's cheap. I don't even think that I have a piece of clothing in my wardrobe with less than $52, which is the cost of my current outfit.
We set out along the main strip and head off to the park, in the middle of the town. There is a family fun day to raise money for the local school.
"Which toy do you want?" Josh asks at a sideshow game.
"Do you think you can win one?" I playfully challenge him.
"Just choose one"
"The unicorn" Joshua pays for his game and we are informed that he needs to hit the middle of the bullseye at least two out of three times for a prize. However, the bullseye is horribly small, of course by design. I watch as Josh throws a baseball style pitch but falls short. His second and third attempt goes even worse.
"Damn it" Josh mutters quietly. His annoyance grows when he is offered a small consolation prize of a generic plastic pony.
"Don't worry about it. I like the little pony. I use to ride horses quite often when I was a child" I tell him as we commence to walk around the carnival.
"You never told me that."
"I started rather young after convincing my father that it would be safe enough with a trainer and protective gear. I was rather skilled at for a while"
"For a while. What happened? Did you stop riding?"
"Yes" I tell him, but not offer him any more information.
"Don't go all taciturn on me now. Why did you stop?" Josh starts to investigate.
"I got too confident. I was nine, and I had been riding for years. My parents had bought me a horse a couple of years beforehand, and I loved it. I named him Glitter Bug"
"Glitter Bug?" Josh laughs at the childish name I gave my horse. I can't help but laugh also now in retrospect.
"Yes I was only about six or seven when I got him, and he was a white-silver color. He was one of the most graceful animals I had ever seen or ridden. I successfully managed to clear several low jumps for a few months at this time, and I wanted to try the next level up, so I tried" I stop, not wanting to say anything else.
"And you didn't clear the jump, did you?" Josh probes.
"No. I didn't. It was too high. Now, I could use a coffee, what about you? It is almost lunch time. There is a diner here we can go to" I inform him, attempting to change the topic.
"First, tell me what happened when you tried to do the jump." I try to shrug it off, but one look at Josh and I know he is going to keep questioning me until I tell him.
"I didn't ask my trainer, and I didn't realize that the jump was set too high. It seemed lower at the other side of the field. So I set off on my horse, and I couldn't manage it. The horse and I hit the jump and fell back. Hard" Josh sensing my sadness moves closer to me and hugs me tight.
"Where you hurt?" Josh asks sympathetically.
"Yes and so was my horse. I had tried to hold on, but couldn't so I got thrown to the floor. I remember my parents screaming out my name and that they both ran so fast to me. Taylor called out something which I later learned was that he was calling an ambulance for me. They were worried that I, might have a back injury, and I was screaming in pain and for my horse. I ended up with a broken wrist, a couple of fractures and a lot of bruises. I must have taken years off my parent's life that day."
"What about your horse?" Josh asks. I sigh sadly. I was hoping that I had disclosed enough information, but Mr Joshua Harris, legal extraordinaire, doesn't give up so easy.
"My horse hit the jump and then landed badly. It ended up breaking both its back legs and there was a couple of other injuries. The vet advised my parents that it was more humane to allow the horse to be put down. Glitterbug wasn't young anymore and was in so much pain. I was devastated and told my parents I never wanted to ride again."
"Phoebe you were young and made a poor choice. You shouldn't have given up something you loved. I am surprised your mother didn't make or try to convince you to ride again." Josh comments.
"She might have if my father wasn't so adamant that I never ride a horse again. You may have noticed that my father is highly safety conscious and over protective"
"Oh I have noticed" Josh emphasizes
"I could have gotten hurt a lot worse and my father was aware of the fact. I was so upset over losing my horse and scared of being hurt that I would have refused to ride again, should my parents have pushed the subject." Josh leans down a little and kisses my forehead. I allow myself to be bathed in his love, to forget about my unhappy memory.
"Time for coffee and some lunch." Josh announces and leads me to the little diner. We chose a table in the corner and start to read the menu.
"What would you like?" Josh asks.
"You know what, I want a diet Coke, burger and fries, then an apple pie and ice cream" I announce much to Josh's amazement.
"Sounds good, I might have the same, minus the coke" Josh goes to the counter to order while I check my phone. I am surprised my father or mother haven't tried to ring me, but then again our allocated CPO, Cameron, is probably checking in with Taylor throughout the day. When I finally look up, I notice that Josh is talking to a man behind the counter, and they both shake hands.
"Lunch shouldn't be too long. I am rather hungry now." Josh states.
"Do you know that guy?" I inquire
"Which guy?" Josh feigns ignorance. I tilt my head to the side and raise my eyebrows.
"Do you notice everything?" Josh queries.
"Sometimes, now don't you go taciturn on me?" I tell him off a little. He just made me disclose why I stop riding, so there is no reason why he shouldn't communicate with me also!
"I don't know him. He was just giving me some information about the area. That is all." I am about to question Josh further, but he is saved by the arrival of our lunch. My stomach starts to rumble, and we both start to eat heartedly.
"I think I ate a little too much" I announce after finishing my pie.
"Good. You have lost weight over the past so many months. Everyone has noticed" Josh says frowning. Well it's been an intense year, from my family's opposition to Josh and me together, my dad's treatment of me at GEH, to Josh leaving and then temporarily starting up my own businesses to then finding out Josh was gravely sick and then his recovery. I feel like I have aged ten years just recalling those events. Eating three meals a day wasn't on my list of priorities
"By everyone, you mean my father noticed" I clarify rolling my eyes.
"And your mother, brother, you sister-in-law Lily, your Aunt Kate, some of your friends that I have seen in the past week and a half. I have a good mind to take you to a doctor when we get back to Seattle and have your weight checked." My jaw drops at his threat.
"You and your actions didn't help" I glare, but regret it immediately when Josh shakes his head in despair. "I am sorry I shouldn't have said that. It just my father has always taken issue with me not eating enough. I know Dad is just worried it because he cares, but it just gets tiresome after a while."
"I need to take care of you. I want to take care of you, just like you have for me" Josh says taking my left hand, and strokes my ring finger with his thumb, and then becomes quiet.
The door to the diner open and in comes a thirty-something man, sporting a large cowboys hat and looks around until he sees us. "Harris?" He says.
"Yes. Are you Maddox?" asks Josh.
"Yeah, my buddy here at the diner here rang me. Are you both ready to go?" The man whom I just learned his name inquires.
"Where are we going now?" Josh offers me a boyish smile but doesn't say anything. I am left with no real option but to follow. We get into Maddox's pickup truck, with a now discontented CPO, and drive out of town.
"Phoebe, do you trust me?" Josh questions me.
"Of course I do. You know that. I wouldn't be here in this town and in this truck if I didn't, with a CPO or without one."
"That's true." About forty minutes we arrive at our destination, and it is the last place I expected to be at.
"We're at a stud farm?" I exclaim, starting to feel nervous and clench Josh's hand.
"Yes. Don't worry it will be fine" We are led to a stable and offered safety gear.
"I don't know if I can" I confess.
"Then you don't need to. Just keep an open mind and don't rule anything out" Josh encourages me. Begrudgingly I agree, but make sure my helmet is on tightly. Josh is offered his horse, and it is a beautiful dark brown color. My ever so competent boyfriend mounts him and starts to ride around the paddock.
"Hey you never told me you could ride?" I call out prompting him to ride back towards me.
"I use to ride in the Hamptons with my sister. Are you going to come and join me? I will look after you."
"Ma'am this horse is for you. She is one of our most gentle houses" Maddox tells me. I take a deep breath as I get up. I can feel my pulse race, just sitting on the saddle.
"Ready?" Josh asks.
"Okay, just stay close"
"Always"
I tap the horse, and we start to move. Slowly at first, and slowly we increase our pace around the paddock. Before I even realize it, I feel so carefree and allow myself to relax completely. This is why I use to love riding so much.
"Can we ride out in the open for a little while?" I ask Maddox.
"Sure, I will have one of my guy's follow as a guide, just to make sure you are both alright." Josh and I ride out into the open, and as my confidence starts too grown, I pick up my speed.
"Phoebe, SLOW DOWN! I can't keep up" Josh calls out loudly. I slow down but can't stop laughing.
"Having fun?" Josh asks.
"I forgot how much I loved riding. Thank you Josh. You have given me back something I lost" Josh smiles broadly at me.
"Our guide told me that there is a little lake about a quarter of a mile away. The horses can have a drink there, and we can sit. He has promised to give us some privacy" I nod but wonder what we need some privacy from.
The lake is beautiful, and I can't help but pull my smart phone out to take some photos while Josh and our guide tie the horses, but give them enough room to move and drink at their pleasure.
"Everything you both need is in this bag. I am going to go for a hike up the path. Josh ring me when you are ready to head back" Our guide tells us.
"Thank you" Josh and I both tell him as we watch him walk off. Josh opens up the bag and pulls out a blanket, some water and fruit.
"How did you find this town?" I inquire.
"I didn't you did. You did." What? How? Josh advises me before, passing me a bottle of water and holding my hand to sit down. "I am sorry that I don't have any champagne, but the stud farm has extremely strict restrictions on drinking and riding their horses.
"I don't understand." Josh then shows me a map of the state, and I look at him confused.
"When I blindfolded you and had you point at any point on the page with your finger, you stopped at here/"
"Oh"
"Then I asked Stephen to fly us here. Have you enjoyed the day?"
"Very much. It's rather peaceful here, but..." I comment but don't finish my sentence.
"But?" Josh repeats my last word to get me to continue.
"It is that this is just not what I expect from you, though I loved it. I can't believe I didn't ride a horse after the accident. I should have after I recovered."
"Phoebe, life is unexpected. You and I have experienced that first hand. That is why I wanted you to choose a random place. Somewhere that you and I probably had never been to."
"Why?" I query.
"Because I don't know what the future is going to bring us both. My doctor tells me I could live a year or more than twenty with a transplant. So coming here, not knowing what to expect, was a way to show you that no matter what, I will work so hard to make our life together memorable. I want to help you try everything and achieve all your dreams." Josh then quickly sits up and pulls out the familiar little box.
"Phoebe Grace Grey, Will you marry me?"
"Yes"

Ana's POV:
"Christian, please tell me you are not going to do this." I have been desperately hoping that he would change his mind, but he won't.
"Ana, I need to do this, besides I am not going alone" Christian informs me. What?
"Who else is going with you?" I demand to know.
"Taylor, Sawyer, Ted, Elliot and Markus"
"At least Carrick is smart enough not to participate," I says rolling my eyes.
"Hey don't start with the eye rolling, especially now when don't have time to rectify your behavior, and you know that my father is too old to assist. That is why Ava's husband Markus offered to participate."
"I can't believe this" I criticize.
"What is going on with you two?" Phoebe says walking down the stairs.
"Nothing" we both say in union son.
"Is that why I can hear you both from my room?" Phoebe questions.
"I need to go out, but I will be back in a couple of hours." Christian informs us.
"You are going out? But tomorrow is…" Phoebe pleads.
"Phoebe, I will be back soon. I am sorry that I have to go out of all days, but it is extremely important. I will be home in plenty of time for dinner with the family." Christian reassures Phoebe before kissing her forehead and then me. He walks out of the house with Taylor and Sawyer before Phoebe can question him further.
"Mom, what is going on?" Phoebe asks.
"Phoebe, trust me you don't want to know"
Authors Note: So glad I found the time to write a longer chapter this time. I do hope you enjoyed it. I bet you can all work out what Christian is off to do, and why Phoebe and Ana were annoyed at Christian going out. Can wait to write the next chapter. Getting sad that the end is so close.
Please review if you wish. I would love to get to 5,000 reviews before the end of this story.
