The Obvious Wishes
Bloom could see Earth from her seat.
As she looked out the window of the small ship, she saw the blue and green planet. Her heart raced and her palms began to sweat.
Why was she so nervous?
"That's Earth," she told Nick. She couldn't turn her eyes away from the enlarging planet.
"I guess it isn't a dead planet," he muttered. "We need to get this system updated." Bloom didn't say anything. Instead, she just stared out the window.
Should she have brought her brother here? How did she know she could trust him? She only knew him for a few hours!
It was too late now. They were already approaching Earth's atmosphere.
Bloom's eyes flicked to the controls that she was in charge of. The antitracking device was on, making them invisible on the radar; and the invisibility shield was up, making them invisible to the citizens on Earth. The fire fairy didn't want to be breaking news around the Magic Dimension, she wanted to keep this visit as secret as possible.
Was it right for her to come?
They were landing on Earth already. There was no turning back. She had to trust Nick now, she had to trust she wasn't going to be on the news.
"I'm not getting a high magical reading coming from here. At all. Are we sure we're on the right planet? You had to right coordinates?" Nick questioned, quickly punching on the controls as they entered the atmosphere.
"Nikolaos, do-"
"Bloom, why do you keep calling me Nikolaos?" the red haired guy questioned. Bloom looked away from the window to look at her brother. He was staring right at her, his eyebrows raised.
"Well, that's your name, isn't it?" Bloom questioned tentatively as he entered the last layer of the atmosphere.
"Technically, yes. Prince Nikolaos of Domino. But everyone calls me Nick," he said. Bloom nodded and looked back outside quickly just as they touched down to Earth.
"Oh, yes, of course," Bloom muttered.
"So, what are we doing here? You said you wanted to visit some friends?" he said, brushing off his sister's odd behaviour.
"Uhm… yeah. Kind of," Bloom muttered. She turned to him. "What you see here, you can't tell anyone else. It's completely top secret."
"Of course, Bloom. I wouldn't say anything to anyone regardless. This is what we do, it's nobody else's business." Bloom felt her heartbeat a little harder at the sincerity in her supposed brother's voice. He sounded so truthful and like such a nice kid.
Could she fully trust him?
No. Not yet.
"Promise me." He raised his eyebrows, questioning her doubt in him. "Please, Nikola- Nick."
"Bloom, what's going on wit-"
"Nothing is going on with me, Nick," Bloom sighed tiredly. She was tired of everyone asking if she was okay or what was wrong with her. Had the Bloom in this world been really that awful?
"You're… different. Really different. And you act confused by your life. Did someone put a spell on you? Or-"
"No, Nikolaos," the fire fairy snapped. Tears threatened to spill over, but she forced them away. "I am fine. I'm fine." She took a calming breath, her hands gripping on to each other tightly. "I'm fine."
"I know you, Bloom. When you say you're fine, that means you're not fine. Especially when you repeat it over and over." Bloom was shocked. That was true for herself and it must've been true for the alternate Bloom he had known. "I'm not going to pry it out of you, but please know I'm here for you if you need. I know you usually go to D, but know I'm always here for you."
"Thank you," Bloom breathed, taken back by Nick's sincerity. He looked genuinely concerned for her. "I… Things are hard to explain right now. I know these people here will help make sense of everything. Don't worry, it'll all be fine." Nick laughed and gently touched Bloom's shoulder.
"Why are you saying that to me? I should be the one telling you that it'll all work out. You're the one having a hard time right now, not me." Bloom chuckled and stood up from her chair.
"Are you always this funny?"
"Well, duh." Bloom chuckled again.
"Come on, let's go."
Bloom stepped out of the small ship that had landed deep in the forest with Nick following her. She had no idea where they were or if they were even close to Gardenia.
She pulled out her new phone and disabled the lock screen. Luckily, she had guessed the password on her second try. It wasn't too hard, seeing as it was her birthday.
The fairy was given another burst of luck when she realized the layout of her phone was the exact same as her one from her previous life. Clicking the navigation map, she let her thoughts wander as it located where they were.
She had been holding out well, seeing as her life on Domino had been completely flipped upside down. She had woken up in a strange room with a much different closet and appearance, she had encountered strange people in her castle that she had found out was her brother and sister, she had a completely different transformation list paired with a power she knew nothing about and her horse wasn't hers anymore.
What made her able to handle it all was knowing she had people still there for her, like her friends, Sky, her brother and her adoptive family.
"So here we are," Nick pointed to the red dot on the hologram image of earth. "Where do you want to go?"
"Gardenia. It's over an ocean. It'll take a few days to get there," she sighed. He looked at her, really confused.
"Can't you just teleport us over there? It shouldn't be too hard. You just were tested to teleport between completely different systems," the red haired man told her. Bloom bit her lip and shrugged.
"I don't really know how," she finally said, deciding it would be best to be honest… To a certain degree. She wouldn't tell him about her wish or how her life had fallen completely apart on Domino. No, she didn't know if she could trust him enough yet.
"Really?" he questioned. Moments after, he shook his head. Nick was beginning to expect this from his sister today. "Well, you're able to transport us to and from any place as long as there is fire."
"How do I know there is fire there?" Bloom asked. Nick shrugged.
"You just… know. I haven't been tested on this ability yet, but I know how to do it… In theory. You were going to show me tomorrow in training. I've done it once before during our mock battles. Do you want me to try to do this? It might be better to do it in smaller distances if you want me to do it?"
"Yeah, that would be a good idea. It sounds like you know more about it than I do, so you're the best option," Bloom agreed. Nick nodded, a look of worry spreading over his features. "If you aren't comfortable, we don't have to. We can fly there."
"No, I got this," he pushed. The red head closed his eyes as he tried to find a usable source of fire.
Could she trust him with her life?
Bloom snorted in her mind. Of course she could, what did she have to lose?
Plus, he was her brother. He wouldn't harm her on purpose.
"Alright, I got a location. So, we are right outside of Moscow, Russia. Personally, I'd like to travel over land since longer distances take a lot more energy. I say we go from here to Bergen Norway. After that, to some place in Greenland. From Greenland, we'll go to Chicago, Illinois. Then all the way to Gardenia, California."
"That sounds like a long trip," Bloom sighed. Nick shrugged.
"Better than flying the ship. I don't know how much fuel we have left." Bloom nodded.
"Alright. Do you think you can do this?"
"Of course," Nick nodded. Bloom wasn't too convinced.
"Too bad Stella wasn't here. The Ring of Solaria would've been very useful right about now."
"Wait. Princess Stella of Solaria?" Nick asked. Bloom turned to him. How did he not know her best friend if he was her brother? He acted as if they were so close as well, did he just not take an interest in her friends?
Unless…
"Actually, don't explain. I'm sure I'll figure it out soon enough." Nick laughed and started clearing the branches away from the ground, leaving a circle of cold, damp dirt.
While he worked, Bloom had an uneasy feeling in her stomach. Why didn't her brother know about her best friend? If he didn't know Stella, how could she have been in the castle and switched her whole wardrobe?
The uneasy feeling turned to sickness, but she quickly pushed it down and began to busy herself by helping Nick line the cleared space with rocks.
"So all I have to do is set a fire here and set a fire there, then I'll be able to connect them and bring us there. Simple enough."
"What about forest fires? That's the only thing I'm worried about. When we leave, the fire could spread," Bloom pointed out, looking at their surrounding area. They were in a highly dense forest, it would be awful to have a fire here and her to be the cause of it.
"Don't worry about that. Once we get to our next location, I can suffocate the fire," he said.
"Wait. You can do that? That's amazing," Bloom breathed. Nick laughed.
"You're the one who taught me how to do that. You really used to mess with me during training." At a fond memory, Nick let out a few chuckles.
"Wait. I can do that?!" Bloom awed, clearly impressed. Never had she tried out controlling fire like this. Her powers weren't used in fooling around ways! They were the most powerful in the Magic Dimension, she was always practicing battle defence and offense. Especially since she had always been battling witches since she found out she was a fairy.
"Uhm… Yeah." Nick didn't expand further and Bloom cursed herself internally. She was scaring him. She needed to act less surprised with these facts she should know. "Alright, we should be ready to go soon."
He crouched over the space on the ground. With the flick of his wrist, flames erupted in his palm and he lowered them to the ground. Without anything there to burn from, the fire still danced happily. Nick closed his eyes and he stuck his hand into the fire. Even though Bloom knew their own powers couldn't hurt the castor without being altered, she still flinched and expected him to scream out in pain.
"Alright, a fire is lit. Do you remember what you need to do to transport?" Nick turned back to her, brushing his hand against his shirt. Bloom shook her head no and he laughed. "Alright, well, all you really need to do is feel the fire. Right now, there's a direct link that's fairly strong since they're both youthful fires. It's the best time to transport. You just stick your hand in the fire and you'll feel… I guess a rope type thing? You'll need to grab onto it and it'll bring you directly to the next fire. Just make sure you're always focusing on the other fire and the connection, just so you don't get lost." He laughed and Bloom had another sinking feeling in her stomach.
Oh dragon.
"Do you want to go first?" Bloom asked. Nick shook his head.
"No, I think it would be best for you to go ahead of me. I'll make sure the connection stays strong from this end." Bloom nodded and walked up to the fire.
It was now or never.
Bloom stuck her hand into the flames. Instantly, she could feel something to grip on to. It was drawing her hand closer and closer; she had to fight against it to keep it from pulling her hand in.
"Do I just grab?"
"Yeah. You got this, Bloom."
She smiled before she gave in to the pull. The fire fairy was engulfed in flames as she flew to their next location.
"Do you really think this dress looks good on me?"
Bloom's vision had gone completely cloudy, almost like she was looking through a rippling pond at the pictures around her. The voice that she heard was wonky, like they were talking into a deep cave and she was at the other end of it. Bloom couldn't tell the picture either. All that she knew was that there was white.
Lots of white.
Bloom could see that there was a girl in front of her, standing on a pedestal. The princess couldn't tell any details about the girl, other than she was blonde and looked like she hadn't been in the sun in weeks. The mysterious girl was wearing a white dress. It was pretty from what Bloom could tell. There was lots of elaborate beading and crystals along the bodice while the shirt flared out into a ball gown.
"It's beautiful." Bloom could hear another voice. She was shocked to realize it was her speaking.
Where was she exactly?
"…You may experience flashbacks, time lapses, flash forwards, and other time travel issue to get you up to speed on your new lives..." The words of her guardian echoed in her mind.
Was this what she was talking about? Was this a flashback?
"I don't know if it's the one though. Oh, I don't know. Maybe I should just let the palace design one for me." The girl in the wedding dress huffed loudly, sounding quite sad. Bloom thought she knew the voice, but she couldn't place it. Maybe it was someone from Alfea that she went to school with?
"You told me you really wanted the experience of this though," the other Bloom pointed out.
"Yeah, but I didn't know it would be this hard!"
"Maybe you should try a different style? Longer train?"
"No, I don't know. I… I just don't know. Maybe we should just… Go home? Rethink?"
"If that's what you want, then sure."
Bloom landed on ground with a hard thud, but she was to weak and went tumbling to the forest floor.
What had she just seen? Who was that? When was that? Why were they shopping for wedding dresses?
"See, wasn't that hard, was it?" Nick asked as he slowly formed out of the fire.
"I… Yeah," Bloom managed, still regaining herself from the flashback. Who was that? What did those images mean? Who's wedding was this?
Memories from earlier in the day flooded back to her. Didn't her mother just say something about a wedding and being busy?
Bloom's heart raced.
Wedding?
"Alright. So, just a few more trips like this. You're good? Not feeling sick?" Nick asked. Bloom's eyes narrowed.
"How many times do I have to tell-"
"No," he interrupted. "I was just asking because I don't really know what I'm doing, so I'm checking. Sorry." Bloom felt her heart sink at the dejected look on his face.
"Nick, I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Let's just keep moving." With that, he set another blaze and they were off.
Lucky for them, they didn't land too far away from Mike and Vanessa's house. It was just a quick cab ride down the main road, which was a relief to Bloom.
But she was still shaking.
Why was she so nervous? It was just her parents.
Maybe she wasn't just nervous about her adoptive parents meeting her brother from her home kingdom? Or was it that she was just nervous that Nick was going to be meeting her adoptive parents? Was she able to trust him with this? If she was indeed living in this new world that had no idea of Earth, was she right in trusting him? She had only just met him. What if he turned out to be a bad person?
Wait.
Bloom's heart dropped with pain and fear and her head started pounding. If she grew up on Domino and the rest of the Magic Dimension had no idea about Earth, would Earth have any idea about her? Would her parents remember her?
Bloom began to panic.
What if she had wished her whole life away!?
"Everything alright, Bloom?" Nick asked. Bloom turned to him and nodded her head slowly.
"Yes," she lied through her teeth. "I'm fine." In reality, she was on the verge of a panic attack.
It was too late now. She was just pulling up in front of her parent's house. She had to trust Nick. She had to trust her parents would remember her.
She had to trust.
Bloom pushed her worries and doubts down and focused on her family and life on Earth. It felt like she hadn't seen them in ages.
"Ready?" Nick asked his sister. Bloom nodded and stepped out of the car.
"Let's do this," she muttered.
