Quinntana Fanfiction: Now and Forever
Chapter 12: Freezing to Melting
Quinn woke up to a sudden shiver. She looked over and realized that Santana stole the blanket all for herself. Recognition of what day it was hit her and she jumped out of bed.
She drove through the snow carefully. But her excited attitude got the better of her and she almost slid off the icy road. She couldn't risk getting into another accident. That would just deteriorate everything she has worked so hard for. Quinn realized that the more she thought about it, the more distracted she became. She decided to clear her head until she found a parking spot at the pound. Walking in, she was met with a line at the front desk, everyone there for the same reason she was.
Quinn was hoping that Santana would still be asleep by the time she gets back. Because if she wasn't, her whole plan would be ruined.
Thankfully, the line was moving along quite quickly and before she knew it, she was at the front.
"Hey Quinn! Please just sign here and you're good to go" said Karen as she brought up the small dog carrier with the same pup inside.
"Okay. Thanks Karen" said Quinn as she slides the paper back.
"He's happy to see you" said Karen as she smiled at how giddy the pup was.
"I know. And Santana's gonna be really happy to see him" said Quinn.
"Can you tell her I said "Hey"" said Karen.
"Will do. See yah" said Quinn as she took the carrier and waved goodbye.
Quinn hastily made her way back to the car and headed home. Once she got there, she left the pup in the car as she quickly went up and down the stairs with all the dog supplies. As she made her last trip up, now with the dog in hand, she quietly peeked her head through the door, listening for any movement in the apartment. When it was clear, she walked into the room and found Santana's sleeping form. She put the carrier down and opened it. She grabbed the pup and it started licking her face. Quinn chuckled as she made her way to the bed. She put it on the bed and it made its way to Santana and started licking her face.
"Woah. Quinn. Calm down" murmured Santana. Quinn just laughed quietly as Santana opened her eyes.
"Oh my God!" gasped Santana as she sat up and played with the puppy.
"Merry Christmas!" said Quinn as she sat closer to Santana.
"How did you know?" asked Santana.
"I figured it out. And I got a little help from Karen" said Quinn.
"Well, I already love him and I love you" said Santana, leaning in and kissing Quinn.
Their kiss was interrupted by another tongue licking their chins.
"I know he's not a stranger to you so you must already have a name for him" said Quinn.
"Yeah. I named him Leo" said Santana.
"Wow. That's a good name. Fits him perfectly" said Quinn.
"I know right. Here. Hold him for me while I go get your gift. Don't move" said Santana as she got up and disappeared out the door.
Santana came back to find Quinn and Leo in the middle of a staring contest.
"What are you doing?" said Santana.
"You said don't move. So we're not" said Quinn.
"Don't be ridiculous" said Santana, joining them back on the bed and ending their little game.
"What is it?" asked Quinn as Santana gives her the wrapped box.
"Why don't you open it" said Santana as she took Leo into her lap.
Quinn ripped the wrapping paper and her eyes grew wide as she realized what it was.
"Wow. Really?" said Quinn as she opened the box.
"Yeah. Merry Christmas Love" said Santana.
"I always wanted one" said Quinn as she started to assemble it.
"I noticed. So I decided to get you one" said Santana.
"Here. Lets take our first family picture" said Quinn as she scooted closer to Santana.
"Smile Leo!" said Santana as Quinn held the camera out in front of them, lens facing their faces.
Click.
Quinn turned the camera around to see the picture.
"Wow. This is a really nice picture. The quality is amazing. I'm gonna frame this later on" said Quinn.
"Yeah. It is. Look, we should get ready before the gleeks come over later" said Santana as she got up, holding Leo.
"Yeah, we should. I'll leave you to play with Leo while I take a shower first" said Quinn as she got up too.
"Fine by me. He's my best buddy" said Santana as Leo started licking her face as she made her way to the couch. Santana turned on the tv and let it play to fill in the silence of the room. Leo was just staring at her as if he was waiting for her to do something. Santana looked around the living room to find something she and Leo could play with. If she hadn't been looking carefully, Santana would've missed all the dog supplies in the corner. She smiled because Quinn actually went all out for this puppy. She picked up the tug-of-war rope and threw one end to Leo. Leo bit it and started tugging with Santana on the other end.
Leo was putting up a good fight and Santana was getting tired. Right when she gave up, she ended being pulled and fell face first on the the floor. Quinn saw the whole thing and started giggling when Leo started licking Santana's face.
"Wow. The Mighty Santana Lopez lost to a small puppy" said Quinn as she joined them on the couch.
"Whatever. You probably wouldn't have lasted as long as I did" said Santana.
"That's why I made you play with him instead" said Quinn. "Now get up and shower"
"Fine," said Santana as she got up to kiss Quinn.
Quinn turned her head away. "I just showered and you have dog saliva and sweat all over your face"
"Really Quinn?"
"Yep. I'll kiss you after you shower"
"You're treating me like a little kid"
"Yeah, but its cute. Now go"
Santana puffed out a sigh and went to the bathroom. There was a knock on the door and Leo followed Quinn as she opened it.
As soon as the door opened, Leo started barking.
"Woah. When did you get this little guy?" asked Rachel as she knelt to pet Leo.
"This morning. I got him for Santana" said Quinn as Kurt, Rachel, Finn, Blaine and Brittany walked in, the boys carrying the loads of gifts.
"He's so cute!" exclaimed Kurt as Leo licked his face.
"What'd she get you?" asked Brittany.
"A SLR camera" said Quinn as she handed them the camera. Rachel starts looking through the pictures.
"Aww. This is such a cute picture. You guys should frame it" said Rachel.
"I'm planning to" replied Quinn.
Rachel moves closer to Brittany and takes a selfie of them.
"Oh! Rachel, take one of me and Kurt" said Blaine as he posed to kiss Kurt on the cheek.
"Let me see!" said Kurt, taking the camera from Rachel.
"Finn photo-bombed our picture but I'll keep it" said Kurt. Finn was looking around, acting like he didn't do anything. But the slight grin in his features gave him away. Quinn took the camera to see for herself. And yes indeed, there was Finn in between the two. He was holding a mistletoe above them with a huge smile plastered on his face.
"Where is Santana?" asked Kurt.
"I'm right here" said Santana as she walked in the living room all dressed up but her hair wrapped in a towel.
Mercedes and the rest of the gang walked in through the door.
No matter how many times they had these gatherings, Quinn can't seem to get sick of it. She knows how most of the girls like to make an entrance. She knows how the boys are always lingering in the back behind them. She knows how they practically make themselves feel at home. She knows how all of these holidays and gatherings work. She knows and yet everything feels so surreal when it happens. Quinn looks around at the bunch she has learned to love and a small smile forms on her face. What she didn't notice, was that someone was watching her instead. Santana made her way to Quinn and hugged her from behind while kissing her cheek.
"What are you thinking about?" asks Santana.
"Nothing" replied Quinn, the smile still in place.
"Come on. I wanna know what made you smile like that a couple seconds ago" said Santana.
"Fine. I was just thinking about how we probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that night" said Quinn, turning to look into Santana's eyes.
"Yeah. I know what you mean" said Santana as she leans in and kisses Quinn passionately.
Both of them knew all the truth that was held in that statement. Yeah, they knew that it basically started on a drunken fling. But that night surfaced feelings and emotions that were buried deep down. Feelings that were masked and hidden from everything else life had offered. Emotions that were already there but didn't realize it until then. When both of their hearts were bare and naked. The alcohol just intensified the risk taking. The risk of jeopardizing their friendship. But now they realize that risk was worth it. Physically, they were in a drunken state. But emotionally, they were as sober as can be. Maybe that's why neither of them could forget what happened that night. Then one thing led to another. The months of texting. The day they made it official. All the drama that came after. And now they're married and have a life together. But today in particular, it gave Quinn a warm, fuzzy feeling so strong she couldn't stop smiling. And probably the fact that she loved Christmas very much.
"Will you two stop eating each others faces and join us so we can open our presents?" interrupted Rachel, sitting with the others around the Christmas tree.
"Presents?" asked Santana as she pulled away and made her way to the couch faster than Quinn could react. She looked up to the brunette, who was sitting criss-crossed and patting a seat next to her.
Quinn chuckled slightly and shook her head.
This morning, Santana was the reason she was freezing. But now, she was the reason she was melting.
She really loved this woman.
A/N I know I said I was waiting until Christmas got closer but it just came and went. I got caught up and I was too lazy to write out the next few chapters. But here is an update. Tell me what you think and send in ideas. Thanks for reading and enjoy the new year! :)
