FILE 1: RESORT HOUSE TERROR 2
Flashback...
As for a certain narcissist, let's just say if Mai saw him she wouldn't be able to stop laughing. Because lo and behold, Naru was standing at the middle of the room like a statue with Gene trying to snap him out and Yuri taking pictures of him to be used for black mail purposes.
...Flashback
-oOo-
It was a fine day, the trees were swaying along with the summer breeze, birds chirping happily, the sun shining brightly with its rays filtering through the window. It's warmth directly enveloping a sleeping brunette.
Said brunette started to stir, she then stretched thinking that it was a wonderful morning but it was all destroyed when she saw what time it is. "EEHHH!" She screeched while flinging her blanket off of her. She then started running around her room getting ready, while thinking along the lines of Naru killing her for being late.
She stopped what she was doing, when she heard a knock on her door, "Mai, I heard you scream. Is there something wrong?" Yuri asked, while entering Mai's room.
She arched an eyebrow and commented, "I know your excited and all Mai, but I think you're going overboard with the preparations. After all, you're going to be meeting Michiru and Keiko around 10 and it's only 8 so you still got a lot of time."
Mai at first had a wide eye look on her face, but once Yuri's words finally registered in her mind, she faced palmed herself. "Ugh, I guess Naru is right when he says I'm an idiot."
She plunked herself onto her bed and covered her face with her arms. She then sat up and looked at Yuri with a sheepish grin, "Hehe, I guess I've been so used to going to the office and forgot that Naru allowed me to go with Michiru and Keiko to the beach for three days."
Yuri just rolled her eyes at her, "Well, if you're acting this way then I guess you really need this break." She then shakes her head and looked at Mai, "Well, since you're up and about, how about joining me and try to see whether anyone is up to make a familiar bond with you."
"Alright", Mai answered. She remembered the day she and Yuri talked about familiars.
-oOo-
Flashback...
Yuri became Mai's official guardian four days ago and was currently training Mai in making protection wards, when she asked Mai, "Mai do you know anything about familiars?"
Mai looked at her blankly. "Guess that answers the question." Yuri commented. She then closed her eyes and called out, "Leo, Lyra." Right before her appeared two identical tigers.
Mai looked at them with a shocked look on her face. "These are Leo and Lyra, my familiars." Yuri explained as she saw Mai's look. The two tigers went to Mai and started to nuzzle her. Feeling their soft fur on her hand, snapped Mai out of her stupor.
Mai looked at Yuri as she pet the two tigers and asked. "What are familiars?"
"Familiars are a cross between a spirit guide and a shiki. Like a spirit guide, they accompany you everywhere and they protect you as well. The difference between a familiar and a spirit guide is that for a familiar you can basically bid them to do what you want. A spirit guide on the other hand is someone, whom you bond with but you have no power over them and they become a part of you in a way is quite intimate, even uttering a word about your spirit guide would make you feel as if though you violated the bond you have with them." She stopped for a while to see if Mai understood what she said.
"A spirit guide is a part of me, a part that I am the only one who can know and communicate with, a familiar on the other hand is someone I can bond with but at the same time can do my bidding that would be its similarity with a shiki, it differs to a shiki in the sense that anyone can see a familiar while a shiki can only be sensed by its employer." Mai commented.
"You sell yourself short you know that", Yuri said to the girl. Mai on the other hand had a confused look on her face. Yuri sighed "As your guardian it is my duty to make sure that your well taken care of and it also means that I have to see how you are faring at school. Why do you even allow Naru to call you an idiot, you could have been the top of your year but because of your absences you only got the top two spot. What did you do to make Nolly call you an idiot?"
Mai scratched the back of her head with a sheepish look on her face, "I guess it was because when I started working for him, I didn't have any knowledge on what he was even doing. I think it also had something to do with me getting attacked by spirits wherever we go."
Yuri's eyes widened, "What do you mean by spirits attacking you? I thought the reason why I was here was because of your abilities, no one told me about getting attacked by spirits."
"Well you see, since I started working for SPR and in every case we've gone, I've been in one way or another had been attacked by a spirit. Ummm, is there anything wrong about that?" Mai asked Yuri in confusion.
Yuri wanted to scream but she stopped herself since Mai wasn't the one at fault, rather it was a certain narcissist whom she had a bone to pick. Once she made a note to hound a certain person, Yuri took a deep breath in order to calm herself down before answering Mai, "Yes there is, being attacked by spirits isn't really a problem but being attacked nearly every time is the problem."
Yuri stopped for a while to think on how she could explain it to Mai, "Spirits in general tend to communicate with the person they think would be able to help them, technically the number one person for this would be Masako since she's a medium but if the spirits are choosing you over her then that's a cause for concern."
Mai then interrupted her, "Wait, are you trying to tell me that the spirits are attacking me because they are trying to communicate with me." Mai asked incredulously
Yuri nodded her head, "For you it would seem that they are attacking you, but for the spirits they see it as a way for them to communicate to you. The spirits don't know any other way for them to communicate with you because you were still untrained and you don't even know the real extent of your abilities."
Yuri then sighed for the umpteenth time that day, "You said that you felt as if though something was preventing you from returning inside your body, but you also said that there was another presence there but didn't feel dangerous rather it felt warm and safe." Mai nodded her head.
"I have a theory for that, what I think happened there was that your spirit guide tried to help you return to your body but because you haven't bonded with your spirit guide yet, he/she wasn't able to fully help you. But I think it was also because of Gene inhabiting your body that prevented you from forming a bond with your spirit guide." Yuri stated.
"I remember Naru telling me that a spirit normally knows more than a living person, like how the spirits know my abilities, so my spirit guide would have already known about me before I even knew who he/she is." Mai said while looking at Yuri for confirmation.
"Correct, see I told you, you're selling yourself short by allowing Nolly to call you an idiot." Yuri commented to the girl.
Mai just grinned at her and said, "I know, I know, it's just that whenever Naru is near me I start to feel like an idiot or rather instead of feeling like an idiot, Naru just riles me up and every common sense I have just flush down the drain." Yuri just raised one of her eyebrow at Mai's answer.

"Mai, Mai, MAI!" Yuri shouted.
"Wha-what", the girl said disoriented. Yuri just shook her head at the girl. She then motioned for Mai to sit at the middle of the living room.
Once the both of them were seated, Yuri addressed Mai, "Alright, the first thing that needs to be done in order for you to bond with a familiar is to meditate. You need to clear your mind of any thoughts. The moment you accomplish this, you would then be pulled into a dream scape which will give you a glimpse of your familiar."
Yuri stopped for a moment to see whether Mai was still paying attention to what she was saying; though she know that Mai is quite intelligent, the girl could get side tracked quite easily. She then had a thought that Mai's tendency to space off might be the reason why Naru calls her an idiot.
She then composed herself and started talking again when she noticed that Mai's focus was still on her, "As I said before when we had our talk about familiars. The number and abilities of your bonded familiars will depend on your needs."
Mai nodded her head and said, "Like how you have two familiars, though they are both tigers Leo helps you with your abilities as a medium, while Lyra helps you with your abilities as a clairvoyant."
Yuri nodded, "Correct." Yuri then noticed that Mai had a troubled look on her face "What's wrong?"
Mai looked at her, "If that is the case then does that mean that I would only have one familiar?"
"Not necessarily, though I understand you made that conclusion because I have two abilities and two familiars." Mai nodded her head. Yuri then waited to see whether Mai would say anything, but when Mai didn't she continued, "As I said, the number of your familiars will depend on your needs and not on how many abilities you have. It's only pure coincidence that I have two familiars and two abilities, I could have ended with one or more, and even none at all; but seeing as two were the only number I need that's what was given to me."
"So I could have any number of familiar or none at all depending on my needs." Mai stated.
Yuri just nodded, "Yes, so with that answered are you ready to make a familiar bond?" Yuri asked the girl.
Mai nodded enthusiastically, with a grin on her face. Yuri just laughed at the girl's excitement. "All right, all right, now I need you to calm down and start to meditate." Mai nodded her head; she then took a deep breath and started to meditate. Just like how Yuri taught her, she begun to close of her senses one by one. She started by closing her eyes, which closed of her sense of sight, she then continued from her sense of hearing, smell and finally her sense of touch. She was finally pulled into a dream scape.

After a few minutes...
Mai finally finished her meditation. She opened her eyes and stood up immediately, but was completely overwhelmed by a lot of things and because of this she started to sway. It was a good thing Yuri was there to help steady her.
"Geez, Mai, how many times do I have to tell you to let your senses come one by one, in the same order you shut them off during meditation or else you'll end up swamped with different things." Yuri berated the girl and helped her to sit on the couch.
Mai just grinned sheepishly at her, "I'm sorry, I just got really excited about what I saw. So, how did it go?" Mai exclaimed without taking a breath. Instead of answering her question, Yuri just grinned at her. Mai was about to start asking again but what she saw shocked her, because right before her...
