A/N: Hey everyone, sorry for the long wait.

For those who are reading my story Mai's Adopted, I know that I said that I will finish it first before any of my other stories but I'm currently experiencing a writer's block, but no worries I promise that I will finish all my stories despite not updating frequently.

Enough of that, here's another chapter of The Hunt Goes On. Hope you enjoy it.

FILE 1: RESORT HOUSE TERROR 3

Flashback...

Mai just grinned sheepishly at her, "I'm sorry, I just got really excited about what I saw. So, how did it go?" Mai exclaimed without taking a breath. Instead of answering her question, Yuri just grinned at her. Mai was about to start asking again but what she saw shocked her, because right before her...

...Flashback

-oOo-

In front of Mai were three spirit animals. All three of the familiars were white in color. There was a fox, a wolf and a lioness.

Mai just stood their gaping at the three. The three then came closer to Mai, waiting to be acknowledged. That was when she remembered Yuri telling her that in order for the bond to be completed she needed to give her familiars their names.

She looked at the fox and said, "Kon", the wolf "Kana", and the lioness "Kisa."

All three familiars bowed and said, "We accept you as our master and will be by your side when you need us." Mai felt within her heart and her soul the bond being formalized.

Yuri who had been quiet since Mai started forming the bond with her familiars finally spoke, "Well done Mai, you finally have your familiars."

Mai turned towards Yuri and grinned. "Yeah, I guess I do but I didn't expect to have three of them."

"If you wish, we could explain each of our abilities." Kon said to Mai as she sat in front of her

"Eep!" Mai was startled a bit and realized that it was one of her familiars who spoke. She then turned towards Kon sheepishly and said, "Sorry, I'm not yet used to having familiars. What do you mean by abilities?"

Kon just tilted her head towards Mai and started speaking, "As your familiars, each of us has certain abilities to help you. An example would be what I could do and that is to create illusions and I can also manifest myself into your dreams."

"I can understand the dream part but illusions. How will you do that?" Mai asked with a curious look on her face.

Kon then explained, "My illusions only affect spirits, but through this I could create an illusion and hide your presence. I could also sense and reinforce barriers. But my main ability is to guide you and protect you in your dreams. As your abilities grow the things that I could do will also grow as well."

Mai had a thoughtful look on her face, "So basically, you will be helping me with my dreams and your ability to hide my presence from spirits will help in stopping them from attacking." Mai said with a grin.

Although in the background, Yuri could be heard muttering about having a bone to pick with a certain narcissist. That she should have been informed of what had been happening to Mai prior to her coming. Mai and her familiars just looked at her, but Yuri raised her hand to signal for Mai to continue her conversation with her familiars.

Mai raised an eyebrow at her guardian, but it seemed Yuri was back into her own world and was oblivious to the looks Mai was giving her. Realizing that she won't be getting any answers from Yuri, Mai turned her attention back onto Kon, "Well then, I'll be counting on you Kon." Kon bowed towards Mai in confirmation.

Mai then turned her attention towards her two other familiars. Kana came forward next, "Just like Kon, I will also be helping you. But my abilities are mostly connected on your intuition. I sense that you're the type who brushes of what you feel." Mai chuckled sheepishly, since Kana just hit the nail on the head.

Kana just stared at Mai for a few minutes, which made Mai feel as if though she was being berated by her own familiar. Mai started fidgeting under her familiar's gaze while Yuri, who finally finished with her inner monologue and was watching the proceeding between Mai and her familiars, was trying not to laugh at the situation. Kon on the other hand was snickering at Mai.

Kisa chuckled and said, "Now Kana, let the girl of the hook. She was still untrained at that time and her powers were erratic at best."

Kana sighed, as though a great wrong had been done to her, and said, "Very well.' She then turned to Mai and said seriously, "Try to listen to your instincts from this point on; it might be the only thing that saves you and your friends lives. Understood."

Mai stiffened and said, "Yes, ma'am."

Kana then closed her eyes and continued explaining, "As to what my abilities are these would be sensing if one is lying or not and I am also able to sense if someone is possessed by a spirit or not."

Mai was quiet trying to absorb what Kana had said and was startled out of her thoughts when Kisa chuckled again and said, "You've taken up most off the girl's time, let me have my turn."

Mai then turned her attention towards her last familiar, Kisa.

"Now, now, see what you've done Kana. You scared the girl with that strictness of yours." Kisa said towards her fellow familiar. Kana just harrumphed.

Kisa then turned her attention towards Mai, "Now then, I wouldn't be as strict as Kana but this is the only thing I ask of you." Kisa stopped talking and looked at Mai, once she saw that Mai's attention was on her she continued. "The only thing I ask is for you to listen to what you feel, no matter what others say fight for what you feel."

When Kisa said those, Mai remembered the case they had when she continued saying that Kasai wasn't at fault. Mai then turned towards Kisa and her other familiars, "I promise, if a time comes and I don't listen to my instincts I give you permission to hit me or bite me in order for me to remember."

Kisa chuckled, "Very well, we will hold you to that. Now I know that you are curious to what my abilities are. My main ability is to help you communicate with spirits, though you will not be able to do it as well as mediums do. You will be able to sense and hear the spirits better. Not only will you be able to communicate with spirits, you may also communicate with your friends as well through telepathy." Mai nodded showing that she understood what Kisa had said.

"Well, it seems we have taken up your time, but if you ever need us, just call our name and we will come." Kisa said. Kon and Kana then stood up and went beside Kisa.

Kon then said, "Take care of yourself Mai, we'll see you soon." Mai nodded with a smile.

Kana then looked at Mai, making Mai stiffen. "Try not to get into trouble. Though I have a feeling I'm just wasting my breath."

Mai wanted to deny Kana's words but she bit her tongue, when Kana looked at her the same way Naru does whenever she was going to say something stupid. Mai couldn't do anything but nod stiffly at Kana. With that, Mai's familiars were gone and would appear once again when she calls them. Yuri who had been trying to keep herself from making any noise couldn't take it anymore and started laughing at Mai.

"Geez, Yuri, stop laughing at me." Mai said to her guardian, while pouting.

Yuri started taking in deep breaths to compose herself, "I'm sorry Mai, it was just too hilarious seeing one of your familiars berate you."

Mai stiffened and said, "I thought she was going to eat me with how she was staring at me."

Yuri just laughed at that, "So, how do you feel now Mai?"

Mai looked at Yuri and was about to ask what she meant, when she realized that she felt much more relaxed and calmer. She also no longer felt as though she just wanted to sleep the day away and she said as much to Yuri.

"Good, then that means your bonding with your familiars helped in stabilizing your abilities." Yuri commented with a tone of approval in her voice.

"What do you mean by that Yuri?" Mai asked her guardian.

"Remember the time, when you told me about the times you had trouble focusing and were always feeling anxious, as well as the fact you always feel sleepy from time to time?" Seeing Mai's answering nod Yuri continued. "It was during that time, I realized that it might have been the only way for your abilities to manifest." Yuri explained.

"What do you mean it was the only way for my abilities to manifest?" Mai asked.

Yuri looked at her ward and answered, "Your abilities are mostly connected with your dreams, but because you didn't have the proper training to control your abilities and you also didn't have an anchor to help ground you, your powers end up fluctuating. The times you feel anxious, out of focus, or the times you feel sleepy, and these are the times when your abilities try to warn you or show you something. Without prior training, you end up disregarding the cues your abilities are sending you."

Mai's eyes widened in realization, "So, it means that my abilities force me to fall asleep and dream, because it's the only way for me to see what my ability has been trying to show me all along."

Yuri nodded, "Yes, you are correct. This is also the reason why it is important for you to find and bond with your spirit guide. Even if you have the help of your familiars to help balance your abilities it is not enough. Despite the training I also give you, only your spirit guide will be able to help you understand your abilities better. Not all abilities are the same, remember that Mai."

Mai nodded, she was about to ask something else when she hears her phone starts to ring. She looked at the caller id and saw it was Keiko. It was also then when she caught sight of the time and realized she was late. She immediately answered her phone, "Hello, Keiko I'm sorry, Yuri and I were training and we didn't notice the time."

Keiko was then heard saying something, with Mai answering, "Sorry for worrying you guys, Yuri and I will be heading there already."

Upon hearing Keiko's answer, Mai finally turned her phone off. She and Yuri then rushed out of the apartment and were off to meet up with Keiko and Michiru. Unknown to Mai and Yuri, a figure suddenly materialized in the corner of the room saying, "Soon."
