FILE 1: RESORT HOUSE TERROR 5

Flashback...

They didn't notice the same figure appearing again, saying "Soon." before vanishing out of sight. Mai and the rest of the team did not realize that things were about to become worse and Mai was heading straight to it.

...Flashback

The three finally arrived at the station; Keiko started to search for her cousin, who was supposed to pick them up. Before any of them realized it, someone was hugging Keiko from behind and was squealing, "I'm glad you're finally here! I missed you so much!"

Keiko turned around, and her shock was replaced by glee. Grinning at her cousin, she squealed as well, "I missed you too Kaori."

Keiko then turned towards her two best friends and started with the introductions, "Girls, I want you to meet my cousin Kaori."

Both Mai and Michiru bowed towards the older girl and introduced themselves. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Watanabe Michiru."

"I'm Taniyama Mai, it's nice to meet you, Kaori-san.", The two girls greeted with a smile on their faces.

Kaori then greeted them with a grin and said, "Nice to meet you two as well." She then addressed all three girls, "Well then, come on you three we better head out before grandfather starts to worry and send a search party." They laughed at Kaori's comment, although Mai felt that something was wrong since what Kaori said felt as though it was half true, she then shrug off her instincts about something bad happening. Mai then followed the others towards the car.

During the ride, Kaori started telling them stories and legends about the resort. "One of the legends was based or originated from where the resort itself is currently built on. It was said that a great beast used to roam the land targeting young people, the young would start to act strangely, some would vanish for the days but in the end they were all found a shell of themselves, as though their souls were sucked out of them. When the land was shrouded in fear, a young noble appeared to save the people but he was killed by the beast and his body was never found, so a shrine was built in his honor. The beast was hunted down by the young noble's guards and they fought on the shoreline, they managed to kill the beast at the cost of their lives. Their blood painted the sands and that is how the beach was known as 'Red Cove Beach' for the color of its sand." Kaori finished her story.

She turned around to look at the girls' reactions and laughed, when she saw their wide eyes filled with horror. "You guys look as though you've seen a ghost, but don't worry the story is just a fake. It was made up by the elder folks to scare the young children to not do anything wrong or misbehave, or they would be eaten by the beast and all other variations of it. With everything that has been happening, quite a few are becoming paranoid.

This caught the attention of the three. Keiko asked her cousin, "What do you mean? What happened?"

Kaori sighed and started telling them, "Well our cousin Shiori and her friends started to act strange, destroying things or properties, having temper tantrums and the like. There were also occurrences of someone or something wailing during the night, growling sounds from some kind of animal, dead birds littering the shore and other incidents, which couldn't be explained by anyone. Most of the elder folks started telling the legends and they also said that we should close the resort before bad things happen, but everyone else do not believe the stories and we thought that they might have just been Shiori and her friends doing some pranks."

The girls were shocked with what they were hearing, Mai though had a nagging feeling and she just thought nothing of it. Keiko couldn't believe what she was hearing, she then asked her cousin wanting to get some clarifications, "Shiori, but why?"

"Uncle has been trying to tell her to break up with her boyfriend and said that he was no good. Shiori defended him and continued to stay with him and instead chose to ignore the whole family. We all thought Shiori and her friends might have started using cigarettes and the lot." Kaori shrugged and had a grim look on her face.

Everyone was in a somber mood, but Kaori decided to lift the girls' moods and commented, "Cheer up girls, aside from those incidents, everything else is alright. Just enjoy your vacation and let us handle things and if you continue looking like that you're going to starts having wrinkles." The girls finally smiled and the mood finally lightened, the bad news being forgotten the excitement finally caught up to them.

They finally arrived at the resort house. The girls were quite in awe, but before everything else Kaori turned to them with a serious look on her face and said, "Please don't tell anyone I told you those stories, as much as possible we want to keep everything under wraps."

The girls nodded to show they understood and soon enough they were heading towards Kaori's family house to greet Keiko and Kaori's relatives. As they were walking, Mai shivered when she felt something dark and dangerous. She was about to just play it off as her imagination, when something in the back of her mind told her not to take her abilities lightly and to believe in them.

Kaori and the two noticed Mai was lagging behind, Keiko then asked, "Mai are you alright?"

Mai snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the others and realized she was about to be left behind, she answered, "I'm alright. I guess I'm just tired from the travel."

Kaori took Mai's explanation as it was, but Keiko and Michiru were not taking the bait. Mai signaled to them that she will tell them later. The both conceded realizing that they cannot speak out loud while Keiko's cousin was with them. They will wait until the three of them were alone.

After greeting Keiko's relatives and thanking them for letting them stay at the resort, Kaori then showed them the cottage they will be staying in. Kaori then said, "Alright, I'll be leaving the three of you. If you girls need anything, the cottage has a phone connected to the main house."

The girls nodded and thanked Kaori for her help. Once Kaori had left and was out of hearing distance, both Keiko and Michiru looked at Mai waiting for an explanation. But before they could start asking questions, Mai summoned her familiars and had them scan the cottage and its vicinity. While her familiars were scanning the cottage, Mai started unpacking her incense, warding papers and charm necklaces. She lit the incense and started to go around the house and chanting under her breath. Once she was finished, she started to place the warding papers around the cottage where they won't be easily seen.

Keiko and Michiru were just standing at the side lines, with a mixture of confusion and amazement on their faces, as they watched Mai go about the house. When they saw Mai finally finish, they immediately felt the air become lighter and started to relax. Only now did they even realize they had been feeling quite tense from the moment they reached the resort. Mai then went to them and handed the charm bracelet, the two immediately took them from Mai and wore them without bothering to ask questions.

Keiko then commented, "Is the reason why you were acting quite strange a while back the same one as to why we feel much more relaxed now than when we were outside?"

Mai sighed and with a grim look answered, "Yeah, since we were in the station I've been sensing something. I kept on thinking that it was just my imagination but somehow when we arrived something within me is telling me to believe in what I'm sensing."

Michiru then said, "If you say that there is something here then I would believe you, you've never steered as wrong."

Keiko then said, "Yup, will follow whatever you say Mai, whenever you tell us you feel strange you were always right."

Mai smiled at the two and said, "Thanks you two and sorry if it seems our vacation plan went down the drain."

"It's just fine Mai, this made our vacation much more exciting." Michiru said with a grin on her face.

Keiko added, "Just like those horror films we like to watch, we could be the ghost busters to fix the day." They all laughed at that, and soon enough they started to chat with each other until they heard the phone ring.

Keiko stood up and went to answer the phone, "Hello."

Kaori's voice was then heard from the other line, "Hey, Keiko you and the girls should come here to the main house for dinner."

"Alright, we'll head there now." Keiko answered. She then turned towards the two and said, "Kaori-nee wants us to head to the main house for dinner."

The two girls nodded and the three of them made their way towards the main house. While they were eating and chatting around with Keiko' family, a figure materialized in the middle of the living room of their cottage, saying, "Soon little one, we will finally meet."
