Shocking revelation

Waking up to the sun over her eyes, Mercy rolled to her side, and groaned. She didn't remember her room ever having this much light, in fact she didn't remember going home the night before. The bed didn't feel like her bed, but she still knew it, she just wasn't sure from where. When the smell of coffee, also known as sunshine in a cup, reached her nose, she couldn't help but drag herself out of bed.

The moment she saw the room from an upright position, she knew exactly where she was. Izaya's house, she thought breathing a sigh. The lurch in her stomach launched her out of bed, and into the main bathroom. A miserable groan exited her lips when she flushed the toilet, at the moment she was light headed and tired from the ordeal. Without another thought, she opened Izaya's medicine cabinet, and grabbed the spare tooth brush he kept in it. Having her teeth clean and her breath fresh made her feel much better. A chuckle echoed through the quiet room, forcing Mercedes to look to the bathroom door.

"Good morning sunshine." Izaya smirked, as he leaned against the door jam. "How are you feeling"?

"Tired, sick, hot, but that's been a normal occurrence." She sighed. "So why am I here?"

"You didn't want to go home, so I offered for you to stay here."

"Well, wasn't that nice of you?" Mercy's voice weakened as she rolled her eyes. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it," he muttered, "Mercy, why didn't you tell me about your dad?'

"Would it have changed anything?" Mercy sighed, leaning against the sink.

"It would have changed the timing maybe, I'm not sure, but we will never know."

Their eyes met, after a moment, giving them both a blaze of heat, Mercy glanced to the floor. They both wanted each other for sure, but there were issues standing between them. Izaya sighed, before walking out of the room. Not wanting to move off of impulse, Izaya sat on the edge of his bed. Of course Mercy couldn't stay in the other room, she followed him, but she continued to walk into the living room.

He cursed under his breath, already knowing he was losing the battle of will. Instantly he launched himself off the bed, and followed the young silver haired girl. Before she knew what was happening, he grabbed her wrist harshly and pulled her into his arms. Yes, he was going to regret doing this, but he couldn't wait for the immediate satisfaction of kissing her. The moment their lips met, he groaned, missing the feeling of her soft lips against his. He could feel her hesitation, but he smiled when her body pressed tightly against his. When they pulled away, Izaya once again, couldn't help but further push his future regret.

"Mercy, be mine again." He said burying his face into her neck.

"No,"

Her words sent his heart instantly into his stomach. That wasn't the answer he was expecting, but it made sense. His timing was terrible and he did hurt her. Maybe her friends were right; maybe he needed to let Shizuo pick up the pieces. The very thought made him retch. When Mercy pulled away from him, he allowed her to leave his arms.

"Why not," He was sure he already knew the answer, but the questioned already left his lips.

"Izaya do you even know what you did to me, or are you really that blind?" She questioned, with a deep sigh.

"I know, I hurt you, but-"

"Hurt, Izaya, that's what you think you did?" Mercy's voice rose and wavered angrily. "You did more than hurt me. Izaya I was in love with you. I completely gave myself to you, and you chose the worse time to break my heart. To be fair, I know you didn't know what was going on, but what you said was like a burning pain shooting through me, in itself."

"I know, and you have no idea how sorry I am about that, or how much I am in love with you." Izaya paused, realizing what he just said, as did his female companion. "But I promise, if you give me another chance, I won't let anything hurt you ever again."

The front door opened, revealing the uncomfortable scene to Celty.

"Izaya, I can't go back to you, not now."

"Give me one reason you're not willing to fix this?"

"I'm pregnant Izaya!" Mercy yelled, "And I am not going to subject our child to this."

Tears poured down her face, as she displayed her heart on a silver platter. Both Celty and Izaya stared at her in complete shock, though Celty dropped the bag of clothes she held. When Mercy finished, she breathed in strained bursts. Everything made her tired now, and it was starting to get on her nerves.

"How long have you known," Izaya questioned, after a moment.

"About three months." Mercy sighed, "I wasn't sure whether or not I should tell you, because of our

situation."

There was silence after that. Neither of them knew what to say, but something had to be said, whether it was good or bad. Both Izaya and Mercedes looked deeply into each other's eyes, before Celty called attention to herself. The air thick with anxiety, Mercy found herself running out of the house.

"Go get her Celty." Izaya muttered, as he looked through the wall sized window. "Make sure she gets home safely."

Celty hesitated, unsure what she just "saw," but also unsure whether or not she wanted it explained. It wasn't until the black-haired informant waved her in dismissal, that she ran off behind Mercy. Instead of waiting for the elevator, Celty thought it better to hop out of the window, since she had already wasted enough time. Landing gracefully on her bike, she rode off to find her friend.

Mercy had made it half way down Izaya's street when Celty pulled up beside her. This morning was abnormally chilly, probably because they were nearing winter. The chilly air forced Mercy's arms around her body and for her to tuck head against the cool air. The two girls didn't say anything. Celty didn't want to ask, and Mercy didn't want to answer.

Hop on the bike, I'll take you home.

"Thanks Celty," Mercy stopped, before glancing at the headless rider. "Could we keep all of this between us? I'm not sure how the others are going to react."

Yeah, of course, your secret is safe with me. Would you like a jacket…or a blanket?

"No thanks, we'll be home before I know it." I paused awkwardly. "Um, since adding weight, I've lost some of my balance. Would you mind helping me onto the bike?"

Celty reached her hand out, as she tipped to bike more towards Mercy. With Celty's help, it wasn't too hard for Mercy to keep her balance as she got on. Again Mercy wrapped her arms around Celty's waist, but this time Celty noticed a small bump against her back. Bracing for takeoff, Mercy closed her eyes.

You don't show at all. Would you like Shinra to take a look at you?

Celty questioned, once they arrived to Mercy's house.

"That would be lovely, but does he do pregnancies?"

He has delivered a baby before. I'll ask him and text you about what he said. Do you want me to walk you inside?

"No I am fine, go home and spend time with Shinra." Mercy smiled.

Celty hesitated, until she knew Mercedes had entered the small apartment, before leaving. Everything that she had witness buzzed around in her, "head", as she drove home. By the time she walked through the door, she had thought up a headache that overwhelmed her.

"What's wrong Celty?" Shinra questioned, already feeling her anxiety.

Can you do prenatal?

She questioned, before thinking about how her questioned sounds.

"Are you…no we've never-"

NO, IT'S NOT ME! It's Mercy, she's pregnant.

"O, ok…I don't specialize in prenatal, but I have a friend who does. I can ask her to take a look at Mercy." Shinra paused. "Wait who's the father?"

You're not allowed to tell anyone, you can't even tell anyone she's pregnant.

Celty wasn't sure why she was hesitating, after all, Mercy must have expected him to ask, but she wasn't sure if Mercy wanted to tell him herself or not.

"I promise not to say a word."

It's Izaya's. I just found this out today, and in an interesting way. Apparently she got pregnant just before

they broke up.

"Wow, I never thought Izaya would be the father…" Shinra muttered, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "But that does make sense."

Mercedes breathed in the old book and dust smell, as sat in her living room. The nurse took the proper steps to getting rid of Mercy's mother's body, the night before, leaving a disturbed apartment. In a way Mercy was grateful she didn't have to deal with that, at the moment, all she needed to do was sit there and wait for Celty's text message. Yes, eventually Mercy was going to have to call the funeral home, and doing all the arraignments, but right now, she refused to deal with that.

Hey Mercy, It's Celty. I talked to Shinra, and he says his friend does prenatal; do you want him to contact her?

Mercy managed to send of a "Yes thank you, does he know everything," before he door was forced open. Naturally the youthful girl jumped to her feet, but it was all in vain, standing before her, were her two worried friends. Both girls were on the edge of tears, when they saw Mercy standing there, look back at them.

"Did that rat bastard hurt you?" Shyanne questioned, already beside her friend. "I told you we shouldn't have left her alone with him."

"I'm fine; I need to talk to you guys…." Mercy hesitation forced both girls to look at her with worry. "It's something important, so it would be better if Shizuo were here also."

"Ok, I'll call him over," Chan muttered slowly, unsure if she really wanted to hear the news.

Once everyone was there and comfortable, Mercy found herself pacing the floor. This was big news, and she knew how the others would react, which didn't help. Her friends watched her as she paced the ground, patiently waiting to know what the hell she was so worked up about. When Mercy stopped in front of them, she opened her mouth then closed it again. There was no good way to put this.

"Mercy, honey, you're wearing a path into your hard wood floors." Chan chuckled, "Maybe if you say the information really fast, it'll just come out."

Mercy locked eyes with Chandasea, who sat between Shizuo and Shyanne.

"I'm pregnant, and it's Izaya's."

The words came out in a rush of vowels and consonants. Everyone stared at her in complete shock, though two of the three faces showed a little anger. Chan looked blankly at her friend, before standing up, and hugging her.

"Congratulations honey." She muttered. "I know, it's not what we originally planned, but I'm here if you need anything."

Mercy's eyes naturally swelled with tears, as she hugged her friend tightly. To be honest, she we extremely excited with her news, even though it wasn't what she planned.

"How long have you known?" Chan asked.

"About 3 months."

"And you waited till now to tell us?" Shyanne raged. "What are you going to do? You can't travel when you're pregnant, and we still need to do so much at your parents." Shyanne muttered once she was calm again.

"Well, that's the thing." Mercy sighed. "I was thinking, Wolf-man and Heart already placed me in charge of the new building being built over there, and I do have a lot to do over there. So I'm going to move down there permanently." Mercy chewed at the skin on the side of her lip, as she spoke. "Once the baby is born, I'll visit, and you know my doors are always open to you. All of you."

"So when are you leaving?" Shizuo questioned, still unmoved from the couch.

"Well, Shinra's friend is going to give me a look over, and I still need to pack, so maybe a week or two."

"Does Izaya know about the baby?" Chan asked.

"Yes, he found out this morning."

"And," Everyone held their breath, waiting in anticipation.

"Well, I blurted it out when he asked me to come back to him. He was shocked, and I waddled out of the house. I waddled as fast as I could."

"Did he follow you?" Shizuo sighed.

"No, well Celty came after me, and drove me home." Mercy sighed.

"I'm sorry; I can't help but want to see your baby bump." Chan cheered. "Lift your shirt."

Taking in a deep breath, Mercy lifted her loose fitting black undershirt, so everyone could see the small bump she had been nurturing. Instantly their hands moved to the soft skin and rubbed it tenderly. Both girls cooed, as Shizuo smiled at the silver haired mother to be.

"Are we telling Mr. Boss-Man, or let it be a surprise?" Shyanne questioned.

"Well, our office is being built now. So what I was thinking, is that the building will probably take six to eight months to build. I'm due in about six months, so I won't need to use too much leave, hopefully." Mercy paused. "Though I'm sure you're going to tell him anyways."

"Yes, yes I am."

"God, we're going to have a baby in the family." Channy cheered, already starting to rub away tears.

"Wait, we are supposed to have children together, so they can be best friend like us." Shyanne whined.

"Well, you need to hurry up and find the love of your life." Mercy smiled, touching her tummy absentmindedly.

"Actually," Shyanne bit her bottom lip. "I was going to call a meeting today, Kosuke purposed to me last night, just before I found out about mom."

"O my God!" Both Mercy and Chan cried, hugging the young blond, "Congratulations friend."

"Thank you."

"When's the wedding" Chan asked.

"Well, I was thinking maybe five years, because my fiancé is going to be traveling for three years, and now I want Mercy's baby to be my flower girl or ring bearer."

"Aw, "Mercy momentarily distracted by her phone excused herself from the group hug.

Shinra called his friend, she wondered if she could see you in tomorrow, at three? Also, I did tell him everything, is that ok? Would you mind if I drive her over there, for the check up?

Of course, I don't mind if he knows. I just told the others. That would be great, thank you so much Celty.

*Ballad of Mona Lisa*

"What's up?" Shizuo questioned, appearing next to Mercy.

"Shinra's friend is coming here tomorrow at ten to check up on my baby." Mercy smiled, watching as her friends talk happily. "It's funny, because this year was so bad, but I'm finding amazing things to make it all worth living through."

"Good, it would be a shame if the world lost such an amazing person."

"Shizu-chan, would you mind being with me, for my check up? Normally, I would ask the girls, but I don't want to bother them."

"I would be honored," he muttered hugging her small shoulders. "I don't think they'd think you were bothering them though."

"Thank you," Mercy started, but was interrupted by Shizuo's phone.

"Sorry," he sighed, before walking outside.

"So, I'm assuming I get to buy a frilly pink brides maid dress?" Mercy sighed, sitting next to her friends.

"Yes, of course friend." Shyanne frowned. "I'm going to need a lot of help with planning this wedding. It's going to be hard if you're going to be a whole city away. "

"You can always text or email me, and when I've had the baby I shall visit often. I promise."

When Shizuo walked back into the room, all the girls looked at him with teary eyes. He paused, unsure if he wanted to deal with three teary eyed females.

"I have to go, did I miss something?" he questioned.

"N-no, just some girl stuff." Mercy sighed, starting to cry again. "Be safe okay."

"I'll see you tomorrow." He sighed, but still smirking from her worry.

Waking up to the sound of the doorbell, echoing through the house, Mercy groaned quietly, but launched her-self from the bed. Last night her friend stayed until the wee hours of the morning, talking about the baby and wedding. This left Mercedes exhausted, but she has been taking naps during the days anyways.

"Good morning," Shizuo's voice echoed in the living room.

"O, good morning," Mercy yawned, as she walked into the room. "Sorry, I had a late night."

Shizuo smiled, as he put down two plates and cups. "It's ok. Celty says she'll be here in an hour."

"Yay, time to get dressed and ready," Mercy paused. "Did you make breakfast?"

"Yeah, well, I bought food." He paused. "Come sit down, you need to eat."

"But-,"

"No buts" Shizuo interjected, ignoring her protest. "Sit down, I got your favorite."

"Muffins, yum…."Mercy paused, glancing at the thermos in Shizuo's hand. "Is there coffee with this breakfast?"

"No, orange juice, with extra pulp, isn't caffeine bad for the baby?"

"In my mother's journal, it says, caffeine in moderation." Mercy rolled her eyes. "Before this pregnancy I had at least seven cups of coffee a day, now I've been avoiding caffeine like the plague. I've been terrified of messing with the baby, but it's killing me."

Again, Shizuo found himself smiling at the mischievous girl sitting across from him. Her sorrowful sighs ringing through his ears, as she leaned her head against the back of her couch, something told him she needed rest. He brought her attention back to the food, before pouring orange juice into the glasses.

As they munched their food, Shizuo took the time to look around the house. In the handful of times he has been here, he never took the time to study the room. Mercedes had an entire wall dedicated to books, video games, and DVD's. His eyes locked onto a small device in the far corner of the room. It pointed right at him, making him assume it was there to watch the door behind him.

"Do those cameras still work?" He questioned, eyeing the camera in the corner of the room.

"Huh," Mercy questioned, as she took the time to look at the small device "O, yes," She paused looking to Shizuo. "I'm not sure if they still work, but Izaya put them up when two men broke into my house." Mercy rolled her eyes playfully, before a sorrowful mask captured her face. "Anyways, I need to call him to take them down. Maybe I'll do that before I leave town."

Shizuo sighed, knowing that Mercy still hurt when it came to Izaya. Before he could say anything, to buffer the situation, Mercy stood.

"I'm going to shower, please make yourself comfortable." She yawned. "If they arrive while I'm showering."

"I'll make them comfortable, so don't worry."

Mercedes smiled, before disappearing into her room. Usually she would rush through the shower, since she knew people were coming over, but today her body throbbed under the hot water. After a while, Mercedes turned off the water, and dried off. She was unsure what to wear, due to the fact; she had never done this before. It took some time, which Mercy pulled her hair into a bun, but she decided on a loose fitting orange sun dress.

"Good morning Celty." Mercy smiled, when she walked back into the living room. "Hi, you must be Shinra's friend, my names Mercedes Sado."

"You have a beautiful smile." The honey haired woman smiled, taking Mercy's hand gently into hers. "People call me Doctor Sakura Moto, but my friends call me Sai. The way Shinra speaks of you, I feel as though I've known you for years. Please call me Sai." She paused to glance at Shizuo. "Ok, why don't we get started, please remove your underwear, and lay down. I find bed rooms work best, but you lead and I shall follow."

Mercy blushed, before walking the small group into her bed room. Internally she thanked god for giving her the sense to make her bed, and clean her room. Sai sat on the chest, at the bottom of her bed, and patted the area in front of her. Mercy played with the bottom of her dress, before sitting across from Sai.

"Celty, Shizuo," Sai questioned, "Could you put her pillows behind her, while I examine her?"

Once they were finished, both Celty and Shizuo sat on either side of Mercy.

"So do you have any questions?" Sai questioned, as she took off her gloves and pulled Mercy's dress back down.

"Caffeine's bad for the baby right?" Shizuo blurted out.

"Um, yes, too much caffeine does cause problems for the baby. I would rather if Mercy avoided caffeine as much as possible, but some caffeine every once in a while should be fine." Sai said, looking between Shizuo and I. "Actually, since we are on the topic of the baby's health. Mercy, I can tell you were a petite girl, but the baby needs you to gain at least six more pounds a.s.a.p." Sais muttered, stressing the word needs.

"Okay, that's good to know." Mercy muttered quietly. "I'll work on that."

"I hear some hesitation in your voice." Sai glanced at me questioningly. "Is it because you don't want to ruin your figure, or because of the back pain?"

"The back pain, I was chunky in high school, so the weight issue isn't too much of an issue, but the back pain is a killer."

"To ease the pressure, sit up straight and use a chair that provides good back support. Having your spouse here, give you a back rub helps, or there are massage parlors that specialize in pregnancies you can go to. Avoid picking up or carrying anything heavy. Wear low-heeled, comfortable shoes with good arch support. You can also sleep sideways with a pillow in between your legs." Sai smiled, as she started to stand up. "O, do the two of you want to know the sex of the baby?" Sai smirked mischievously.

"Tell Shizuo, so he can tell my friend, but I don't want to know."

Sai nodded, before clapping her hands together. "Whelp, if you need anything I'll be leaving my card on your table. Shizuo you're going to make a wonderful father."

"O, I'm not the father." Shizuo half smiled. "But thank you."

"I'm sorry," Sai chuckled. "Anyways, take as many naps as you can, you'll need them. Feel free to call me at any time, my phones always on. I'd like to check up on you every few weeks, just to make sure you gain that weight."

"Actually, I'm moving back to my parent's home." Mercy sighed.

"You really shouldn't be traveling," Sai glanced to Celty. "How about, I'll visit you, and as it gets closer to your date, I'll move in with you."

"Wouldn't that disrupt your life; I wouldn't feel comfortable if I ruined your schedule."

"Don't be silly, it'll be like a mini vacation. As for traveling call me before you take off, and when you arrive."

"Okay, thank you so much for everything." Mercy smiled.

"Anytime, now why don't you sleep for now?" Sai paused, before hugging Mercy tightly.
