Taz view (Flash Back)
Taz lay peacefully on the bed sleeping. Suddenly she heard the faint sound on someone stepping on the window sill. She opened her eyes ever so slightly just in time to see her 'Pet' or 'Companion' dressed in her giant cat 'Kitty' costume jump out the window. Getting up immediately Taz trotted to the window and watched as her pet ran into a building. "Meeeoooowwww" she said in annoyance and looked around the street for an easier way to get to Samantha. She spotted a building that had a metal bar stretching from one side of the street to the other and decided on that. Taz walked to the door of her room and opened it by jumping and twisting the handle with the pad of her paw. Once open she went through and pulled it closed. Taz silently trotted through the hall until she came to the main room. Selina was talking on the phone and Maven had walked in the direction of her room. Taz waited patiently unseen by the door. Selina got off the phone and Maven came back.
"She's becoming more and more like you every day." Maven said.
"Indeed she is." Replied Salina.
"Well shouldn't we look for her?" Maven asked heading towards the door and opening it.
Taz moved through the door with blinding speed. "No she'll be fine. Besides I've got my own plans tonight." Selina's voice faded as Taz ran along the hallway to the elevator.
Once there she jumped and pressed the button to the elevator. The doors slide open to revel an elevator man with a very confused expression. The man looked around the hall but saw no one. Taz walked in and stood behind him. She looked at the buttons and then jumped to press the roof. She hit it with perfect precision and landed behind the elevator man who had been staring at the doors. When he heard a thump he looked around but never saw Taz. The elevator dinged and the doors opened. Taz trotted out leaving the elevator man scratching his head and quickly ran over to the building next to hers. She jumped the distance easily, after all cats can jump 9ft easy. Once there she ran across the metal bar that connected the two buildings.
Taz saw Samantha talking to the man dressed like a bat, Batman he was called, and his very colorful side kick, Robin was his name. Taz's sensitive ears picked up the conversation and was starting to get worried about all their questions. Suddenly Samantha ran and Taz broke off in a sprint following Samantha by way of high places and shadows. Twice Taz lost sight of her and had to use her skills as a huntress to find her. She eventual found Samantha resting against a wall. Taz watched from above as a white calico came out of the alley and approached her. Her paws gripped the edge of the rooftop she was on as her protectiveness of Samantha started to show. Samantha was kind and loved all cats, it was one of the man things Taz liked about her, but she still couldn't help but feel protective of her 'pet'. Out of the night Taz's ears picked up the sound of a moving vehicle. The calico picked it up too and he warned Samantha.
"I need you to show me the fastest way out of here." Samantha told him. The calico trotted into the building and Samantha followed. Taz did the same, except, she jumped across to the building next to her. She watched as the calico lead Samantha across three wooden beams and to her horror the beams fell!
"Meeeeeeooooooooowwwwwwww!" Taz cried out for Samantha. Taz watched unable to look away as she saw Robin appear just in time on the roof and lunged for Samantha's paw. Batman also lunged, but for robin. Her heart beating faster than it ever had before Taz feared the worst, she looked away, if cats could cry tears she would be now. Why wasn't she over there to save her? Why couldn't she warn Samantha? She could have stopped this but she just chose to watch helpless. The death of her pet her companion was on her… Nothing could compare to the sorrow in her heart. She was consumed by grief until her ears heard an almost angelic voice say "Thanks".
Taz turned around and stared in relief and disbelief that Samantha was alive. Taz wanted to run to her and announce her presence but Batman and Robin were there so she would have to wait. As she listened to the conversation she slowly started to get agitated with Samantha. I mean first she left without her and then almost got herself killed! They were going to have a talk later but for now Taz was just happy that she would get to see her 'pet' again. Taz watched batman and Robins backs as they began to question Samantha. To Taz their questions went on forever and she noticed that Samantha was getting uneasy. She would have to cause a distraction and soon. If she timed it right she could jump across and possibly bite Batman's ankle before….BOOM! Taz looked in the direction of the explosion and smiled "Meow" (that'll work). Taz watched Samantha run past Batman and Robin into the alley below. Following she ended up at the very back of the alley just in time to see Samantha hide behind trash. Apparently she would have to make her pet take a bath as well. Robin unfortunately followed her and began to search. Holding a small grey sphere in his hand he had turned towards the pile of trash behind which Samantha was hiding. She had to act fast, if she didn't do something Samantha would be found. Silently Taz ran forward and jumped in front of his gloved hand stopping it in its tracks, then as graceful as a….well….cat, leaped forward and grabbed the grey sphere right out of his hand.
"Hey?!" Robin shouted, but Taz wasn't done. She then sprinted as far away from Samantha as possible, determined to keep her location a secret. She looked behind her to see Robin following, he was at top speed. Fortunate a human's top speed is around 7 miles per hour while a cat's top speed is 30. This was a piece of fish. Determined to put distance between Robin and Samantha, Taz kept running for seven minutes strait before finally turning around and setting the sphere down at her paws. Robin slowed to a stop panting. Taz tilted her head to the side and said a sweet innocent "meow" before running off after Samantha.
Luckily for Taz she knew every way home. And chose to hitchhike on the roof of a taxi. Taz walked to the side of the road and waited for a taxi. Out of the alley came a white calico, the same calico that tried to help Samantha. Walking up to Taz the calico introduced its self, his given name was Felix. Taz did her best to ignore him considering. Felix however thought that Taz was the most beautiful feline he had ever seen. With her beautiful glossy black fur, her wide golden eyes, and her graceful movements how could he not. The only problem was that the most beautiful cat in the world was pissed that he almost killed her Samantha. Taz gave him a who what for and a play-by-play on what she would do to him if he ever put her in danger again, which was something along the lines of taxidermy. In an attempt to gain better feelings Felix told her how after that he had helped her. Taz had to admit he was a little helpful but still was livid. She showed her gratitude by rubbing her face against his shoulder before jumping onto the roof of a cab and leaving with a quick "meow". The 'ride' home was not pleasant she almost fell off repeatedly and actually did at a stop sign where he slammed his breaks sending her flying. She finally reached the alley next to her home and waited for Samantha.
Present (Kitty view)
Kitty's heart beat inside her chest wildly as she ran towards the exit, she could see freedom, the dark night outside that would mask her presence if she could only get there….WHAM! Her face collided full force with something hard and rough. The force of the collision knocked her back as she raised her right hand and fell to her back clutching the right side of her face, which took most of the blunt. She landed on a small pile of splinterd wood and could feel warm liguid begin to spread on her right soulder. She shifted her weight and turned her head to see what she ran into. Three feet away from her stood Jim holding a broken plank that he had used to smack her face with. The plank was intact but had a noticeable red liquid on its surface. Kitty felt an odd draining sensation in her right nostril. Her eyes darkened ever so slightly as she used her fist to wipe away the blood. "That bastard!" she silently cursed him.
Jim stood there with a sadistically satisfied grin as Joe and Sid slowly advanced toward her. Taz, who had survived the fall with minimal damage, quickly climbed to Kitty's shoulders and gripped hard. Kitty swiftly got up ignoring the growing pain in her side and the intense pain in her face. She gave them her look of utter anger and determination, a look her family came to be known as the Death Glare. Despite her size compared to Sid, Joe, and Jim, and the uneven odds, that look caused a glimmer of fear to dance across their eyes.
Sid spoke up as he attempted to hide this with a bluff "Well looky here, the little kitty cat has been hurt, oh and she's angry too."
Getting 'into character' Kitty unsheathed her claws and put her arms up into fighting stance. Now it was Joe's turn to taunt as he circled around to her back side "Here kitty, kitty, kitty."
Kitty took note of his position in contrast to where the others were. She brought back her tongue and hissed, Taz joined in as well. Sid laughed "I guess we'll have to welcome her to obedience school!" he stepped forward and threw a careless punch. Kitty ducked and scratched open his right arm leaving five shallow claw marks. He called out in pain but Kitty grabbed his shoulder pulling him down and bringing her leg forward with as much force as her tired legs could muster and slammed her knee into his groin. Sid collapsed on the floor yelling in pain not sure whether to cradle his arm or protect his chestnuts.
"Why you little!" Joe spoke just before he lunged forward and grabbed Kitty's arms to pin them behind her back. Acting on instinct alone she used both of her feet to stomp on his, bringing her head forward and forcing it back so as to head but him strait in the nose earning a cry of shock and pain. He loosened his grip on her. Turning quick she elbowed him in the jaw causing him to take a step back. Kitty whipped her head around to see Sid standing with Jim and Mr. Kane standing opposite Joe. She turned her attention towards them but suddenly heard a large battle cry erupt from Joe as he bounded forward. Fueled by anger alone he charged strait at her like a rhino full force. Caught by surprise Kitty did the only logical thing she could think of, duck. Just as his hulking mass was about to reach her she dropped onto the ground and stuck out her leg. The scared Joe tripped and issued a loud cry as he flew into his fellow attackers who had no time to react before colliding with him and falling to the ground leaving the exit free. Thinking fast kitty checked to see if Taz was around her shoulders and made her escape. She leaped and slide across the hood of the truck and ran through the open garage door. Once through she ran for it.
Kitty ran through the darkened streets of Gotham not caring what was happening, what time it was, or even where she was going. All she was thinking about was putting distance between herself, Taz, and that zoo. As she ran she took detours, running over trashcans, through the litter piled up on the empty streets, and through holes in broken fences. Once sure that she had put a reasonable distance between them she darted through the open window of an old abandoned house. Once inside she flattened herself against the wall and peered through the window. Working hard to control her erratic breathing she saw no cars, lights, or people. Her shoulders relaxed and she sighed as she slide down the wall finally giving her legs a chance to rest. She let her eyelids drop and shut out the world.
A bright light was turned on at that exact moment and her eyes shot open. In the doorway next to the switch was a fair woman with dark skin in an old pink blouse and a gray skirt holding a hard metal frying pan poised to strike. Beside her was a little girl whose raven black hair was pulled back in pig tales and worn blue dress was contrasting with the toddler sized wooden baseball bat held over her head. "Don't move!" the mother said sternly. Kitty stood up abruptly, after all she thought this place was abandoned. She tightened her grip on the deadly frying pan and warned "DON'T MOVE! I mean it!" Kitty ceased all movement. The woman hesitated after seeing Kitty's height, an obvious indicator of her young age "Look I don't know who you are but you need to go!" She said her dark eyes never wavering from Kitty's hazel green ones.
Kitty slowly raised her arms in defeat "I mean you no harm, and trust me I am no threat to your family in this condition, please put the frying pan down." She pleaded.
The frying pan stayed were it was as did the bat "Why should we trust you?" the little girl asked in a high pitched voice.
"Because I don't hurt little girls or their mommy's." she smiled "and I'm just using this place to rest a minute and treat my wounds." Kitty said.
Noticing the large cut on Kitty's shoulder, the woman faltered and her maternal instinct took over. She looked Kitty over taking notice of her bruises, the dried blood on her nose and the thin gash on her right arm. "Dee Dee, get the first aid kit." The girl left the room. Kitty's eyes widened as the woman put her weapon down.
"I'm sorry about that, usually we get bad people who come in like that."
Kitty finally relaxed herself "Is this sort of thing normal here?"
"It's a part of everyday life."
Kitty's jaw dropped some "That's horrible."
The woman smiled "That's just how people live in crime ally."
Dee Dee came back with a small box of medical supplies and set it on the table. Her mother walked forward and gestured to a chair "Here, sit down and well see about those wounds."
Kitty obliged and took a seat. Taking part of her costume off she revealed her right shoulder, it was a small cut not even a centimeter deep but it was 3 ½ inches long. She wetted two towels and gave one to Kitty "Wash your face." Kitty eagerly took it and wiped the dried blood from under her nose. "My name's Carol by the way, what should I call you Cat girl?"
Kitty chuckled at the joke "Just call me 'Kitty'."
Carol nodded and went back to cleaning the wound. "So miss 'Kitty' how'd ya get all scratched up?"
Kitty playfully smirked "I fell into a circle of greedy goons during a trip to the zoo."
"The zoo?"
"Yes."
"That so…" Carol said while searching for a large enough Band-Aid.
"I'm sorry I broke into your house by the way, I thought it looked abandoned." Kitty shamefully put her head down at her last comment about the way her house looked.
"All the buildings on crime alley look like that." Carol explained.
Kitty looked up confused "Why do they all look abandoned and why do you call this place crime alley?"
Carol sighed "Thirty years ago this place used to be known as Park Ro. And was a good town, but lately it's been filled with poverty, crime, and trash. A few years ago Roland Dagget tried to take this place down and turn it into a mini mall but he didn't get far." Carol opened up the wound to see how deep it was and then took out some butterfly strips to place over the wound.
"Why do you wear a funny costume?" Dee Dee said suddenly.
Kitty turned a surprised face towards the little girl as her mother scolded "Dee Dee! Don't ask her rude questions!" Dee Dee looked at her feet.
"It's okay I don't mind…" Kitty reassured her "…I wear the costume and the mask so no one will know who I am."
"Why don't you want people to know?"
"Because the people I usually come in contact with will do bad things to me and my family if they knew who I really was." Kitty lightly smiled at the little girl. She's so cute.
"Ohhhhh, you must really like your outfit then huh."
"Yes I do. But…" Samantha put on a worried expression "…Does it really look that funny?"
Dee Dee laughed and Kitty laughed with her. She smoothed out the tan bandage on her arm announcing that her work was done. "It's not that deep but you should take be careful not to get it infected."
Kitty thanked her and put her sleeve back on. She moved towards the window "I should probably go before anyone starts looking for me." She waved goodbye and jumped out the window. Once out she noticed that there house was on a street corner. She read the name on the sign Park Ave S, she looked back at the house. Its paint was chipped, most of the windows had wood nailed to them, and the roof had countless holes. Kitty looked on sadly as she took out her camera and snapped a picture if the address. She smiled to herself as Taz gave her an approving look. Then disappeared into the night.
Authors Note: Hi! So what did you think? I wanted to try a Taz perspective this time and see how that went. But anyway Kitty is steadily learning more and more about Gotham and its history I wonder what she'll do with it? Oh' well, oh the link for my deviantart account is check it out once in a while I might have something. So please review, all criticism welcome, and I'll see you next chapter. Figuratively that is.
