Samantha woke up with her face planted in a dented cream collared pillow. Upon further investigation she opened her eyes wider and noticed that her left leg was hanging off the side of her bed wrapped in her green sheets which exposed her sloppily worn dark blue pajamas. She gently lifted her neck so as to only raise her head. Looking behind her she saw that Taz was curled up on her back leaning against her bare foot. Then turning her head she let her eyes gaze around the room. Samantha quickly regretted it as she noticed a black tail hanging from the ceiling. Squeezing her eyes shut she moaned and relaxed the muscles holding her head allowing herself to once again face plant into the pillow. Slowly moving her arms up she opened her fingers and pressed her hands to the mattress in an effort to lift herself out of bed. Succeeding she opened her arms and stretched while briskly walking to her desk to properly hide her Kitty clothes. Once done she hopped off her desk only to have her leg just give up on trying to land and buckled as it made contact with the floor. Thinking fast Samantha tightened her right knee and landed kneeling on one knee. Eyes as wide as saucers she looked up to see Taz starring at her with equally wide golden eyes. Breathing heavily Samantha announced "Well Good morning Taz! I'm awake now, I am most definably awake!"
Pausing a moment before standing Samantha slowly raised herself to her feet mentally scolding her leg for just giving up and letting her fall. She went her wardrobe. Opening it she noticed that Maven did the laundry and she suddenly had clothes. Grateful she chose a red long sleeved sports shirt, dark skinny jeans and knee high black boots. Grabbing her black jacket she tided the sleeves around her waist and looked in the mirror as she brushed her hair. Glancing at Taz she waited for approval before placing a dark brown headband in her hair. Taz looked her over and nodded. Without warning her door swiftly opened to reveal a smiling Maven. Startled Samantha and Taz jumped before realizing who it was. "Geese Maven you scared me. Would you please knock next time?"
Maven gave an apologetic smile "Sorry but if you're done here we have two guests that would like to meet you."
Samantha cocked her head to the side "This is the second time I've woken up with visitors I didn't know about, I'm starting to recognize a pattern. O' Well?"
Maven left the room and Samantha looked down at Taz. Hazel green eyes met with golden ones and they silently nodded. Reaching for the door handle Samantha opened her door and calmly strode over to the living room.
As Samantha rounded the corner she noticed two figures sitting on Selina's couch. "Ah, you're up." Selina stated and strode over to her. "I'd like you to meet a good friend of mine Bruce-"
"Wayne" Selina was cut off by Samantha's alert voice as she finished the billionaire's name. "And Dick Grayson, good to see you again." Samantha finished.
"Bruce smiled "Yeah, it has, I didn't know that you where the girl Selina was sponsoring."
"Yeah." Selina looked between the two confused. Samantha catching on explained "We met before at the orphanage before you got me during a fundraiser."
Selina made a sound of understanding and smiled "Well in that case this should go smoothly then." They all sat down and Bruce and Selina engaged in small talk.
Dick looked over at Samantha and smiled "So how do you like Gotham?"
Samantha looked back at him "It's never boring here, everything and everyone is so busy, it's very different from where I'm from, but I'm getting along fine."
Dick nodded and they turned back to the adults who had just gotten to a point. "So you said you needed my help with funding for Florida panthers?" Bruce inquired.
"Yes, Samantha asked me to help because the poor creatures almost extinct." Salina replies.
All eyes turned to Samantha. 'Oh crap now there all looking at me, I guess I should elaborate'. "The Florida panther is one of the few native big cats in Florida. It is a beautiful cat that controls the coyote population, deer population, and the wild boar population in Florida. This cat is a big contributor to the environment in Florida. Now because of poaching and human expansion they're endangered and almost extinct. We're already losing many of the other big cat spices, one of the more noticeable the tigers, I don't want to live in a world without tigers, lions, leopards, lynx, and panthers." Her tiny rant completed she continued to stare into the eyes of the people around her.
"I see you share Selina's love of cats." Bruce stated looking around at the clowder of cats within the house.
Taz rubbed against her legs. Samantha leaned down to scratch her head "Yeah, I guess I do."
Bruce noticed Taz and questioned "It that your cat?"
"Yes."
"What's its name?"
"Her name is Taz."
Bruce nodded and reached down to pet Taz. Taz stared at his bare hand then gave a hesitant sniff, perking up slightly she rubbed the side of her face against his fingers. He gently petted her before returning to his conversation. "From what I've heard I see no reason to refuse your request for a donation how much do they need?"
Samantha's eyes went wide. She didn't actually think he would jump at it so easily, most people either don't care about them or think of them as pests, and his question surprised her. "All they can get." She muttered under her breath.
"What was that?"
Samantha mentally freaked 'oh crap I said that out loud!' "Um, any amount really, they don't get a lot of funding. But any little amount counts."
Dick decided to ask something "How much funding do they get?"
"Not enough."
Bruce thought for a moment "How about $15,000?"
Samantha's jaw dropped into a smile "I-I mean that's, that would be great!" Now smiling from ear to ear.
A pager on Bruce suddenly went off. Reaching for it he read his watch "Oh wow, Dick we're gonna be late. I'm sorry Selina but we have to go."
Selina chuckle "No problem Bruce, it was nice seeing you again."
"You too." Bruce smiled warmly.
"Samantha would you show them to the door, I have to take care of something." Samantha stood up along with Bruce and Dick "Sure." Going their separate ways Samantha strode over to the door with the two behind her.
"How's it going staying at Selina's?" Bruce asked her.
"Its fine, her lifestyles different from what I'm used to that's for sure."
Bruce chuckled. "Um, Samantha, has Selina told you about her past in anyway?" He asked cautiously.
"Yeah, she said that she used to support animal rights." Samantha prided herself on being honest, though she could lie pretty darn good, as such if someone asked her something and she needed to be truthful to avoid suspicion and such she would tell the truth, but not all of it. And in this situation it was no exception, yes Selina had told her all about her past, and yes that included her role as an animal rights activists, so content with truthful reply she smiled brightly.
"Well okay then." Bruce said off in thought.
Samantha placed her hand on the cold knob and turned gently
"It was nice seeing you again Samantha and I hope that we'll see more of each other in the future." Dick said kindly.
She nodded as they left the household and she closed the door. Shutting her eyes tight she smiled and fist bumped the air 'YES!' content she wondered back to the kitchen with Taz at her heels for what she felt was a well-earned breakfast.
That night Catwoman and Kitty were camped outside of security guard/hired thug Sid Hornberg's house. Through a simple process of knowing his first name, what he looked like, and where he was employed, the two were able to found out his last name and where he lived. Now they were patiently waiting for the hempy man to go his car outside of his house. The plan was simple and followed common sense. He was one of the people to load the truck therefore he would probably be one of the people unloading the truck. That said he would eventually have to go to the truck in order to unload it. So they would camp out here until he came and follow him as he led them to the boxes. See Simple. Currently Catwoman and Isis were keeping watch while Kitty was talking to Taz, giving her Catwoman's tracking device. Taking it in her mouth Taz departed down the rain pipe. Unfortunately once she reached the bottom, Sid exited his house and was walking towards his car. Remaining unseen Taz trotted over to his car and disappeared under it as he was stepping in. A moment passed before Taz darted out from under his car a just before his engine was turned on and back fried exhaust. Scurrying up the pipe Taz rejoined the group. Kitty watched Catwoman's screen as a blinking dot appeared. Smiling she turned to Taz and put out her index finger to with Taz touched with her paw in an adorable fist/paw bump. Two dark figures watched them from afar. Catwoman looked at Kitty and Taz and gave a silent nod before they disappeared into the shadows.
A pair of binoculars watched from above as a car pulled up to the Gotham Shipping yard.
"He's parked, finally. He's chosen warehouse 23." Kitty spoke clearly to the larger cat cosplayed beside her.
"Finally I was starting to think he was lost." Turning her head to check the perimeter Kitty saw a tall bat and a colorful boy. "Uh oh here comes the dynamic duo."
Catwoman's eyes narrowed. And took the binoculars from Kitty's hand. Her green eyes gazed through the lenses at the two vigilantes. Taking them away from her eyes she stared at their small dark figures. Kitty stared at her, waiting for her to speak. She seemed deep in thought before she shared her voice "Just this once we'll team up, we might need their help." She placed the binoculars down and leapt off the warehouse using her whip to get her down to the ground and then ran off in the direction of Batman and Robin. Kitty followed and ran after her. They weaved their way through the countless warehouses to get to them finally coming up behind them as they sneaked around the yard.
Sticking to the shadows Batman and Robin made their way towards the warehouse that the truck went to. Currently Batman was looking for any thugs that may have been keeping watch from behind a corner "Any sign of them Batman?" Robin asked.
"Any sign of who?" A feminine voice asked from behind them. Startled they turned around quickly to see Catwoman leaning against the side of the warehouse with kitty at her side.
"What are you doing here?" batman asked calmly.
Catwoman smiled "We're investigating the truck that entered warehouse 23."
"So are we."
"So if you're here to investigate then who were you looking for?"
Robin answered this time "Guards."
"You were planning on going in there to bust whoever is in there weren't you?" "Weren't you?" Batman replied.
Catwoman nodded. "So, you wanna help?" Kitty asked keeping in character.
Batman's eyes widened ever so slightly and paused. Robin looked towards his mentor waiting for an answer. Batman's face searched Catwoman's, looking for any sign that this was a trick, and his brain worked weighing the options and thinking of outcomes. Eventually he deadpanned a reply "Alright. But if we're going to work together you do as I say."
"I make no promises." Kitty mumbled under her breath.
Taz hid a smirk while Catwoman half rolled her eyes "Alright dark night what's the plan?"
Batman gave an annoyed look while Robin tried to hide the tiniest hints of a smile. "Robin and I will enter in through the west, you and Kitty enter through the east. Just observe, don't engage unless necessary." They nodded and went their separate ways.
As Catwoman and Kitty moved around to the east side of the building, Kitty quietly took her small camera out of her belt 'This might come in handy'. They reached the east side of the warehouse and stood gazing at the wall. "Soooooo, how we gonna get in?" Kitty asked when she saw no doors.
"Look for anything that you can squeeze through." Catwoman replied. Isis looked up and gave a soft "Meow." Following her gaze Catwoman spotted a small window two stories above them that was ajar. Scratching Isis between her ears Catwoman congratulated her. "Good job Isis…." Isis purred as Catwoman pointed to the window "….There. Isis and Taz can get up there and secure one of these hooks." Catwoman held up two small grappling hooks.
Kitty looked confused "Um Catwoman, I know cats can jump 9ft straight in the air easy but, they can't jump two stories."
Catwoman nodded "Then we'll have to give them a boost." Catwoman handed Kitty one of the hooks.
Kitty nodded still a little worried but picked Taz off her shoulders and gave her the end of the grappling hook. Then getting herself and Taz ready she prepared to push Taz upward. "Okay Taz, we do this on three." Taz meowed in skeptical agreement, obviously having as much faith in this plan as Kitty did, she would have to jump at the right time in order to get the boost and not lose balance. "One…" Taz crouched in Kitty's hands. "Two…" Her back legs tensed along with Kitty's muscles anticipating the jump. It seemed as though an eternity passed before Kitty uttered the final number. "Three." Using all the strength she could muster Kitty pushed up on Taz propelling her into the air at the same moment Taz pushed off with her hind legs and leaped through the air. Kitty's eyes twisted in horror she wasn't going to make it, she was short just 3ft. Taz noticed too and eyes wide with determination she hit the wall with her paws and used the momentum to run four steps up the wall to jump to the window just barley grabbing ahold of edge before pulling herself up and into the building. Kitty let lose the breath she had been keeping in with a sigh. And watched Catwoman did the same with Isis, only because of their greater strength and height Isis made it to the window with much less troubles. A moment later black ropes were tossed down from the window. Kitty grabbed one and pulled on it, testing its strength. Looking to the side at Catwoman who had already started climbing her rope Kitty grasped hold of hers and pulled herself up. Placing her feet on the building she started to walk up the side of the warehouse. Once there she had to pull herself forward through the small window which caused her some trouble on the other side since she went in head first. Once inside she noticed that the window was right above a platform on the second floor. Around her she saw the open spaced warehouse and joined with Catwoman looking over the edge of the platform. As she surveyed the area below she noticed the truck they had seen with crates was now being loaded with gas tanks. 'Joe and Sid are still loading the last of the tanks, that'll give us some time'. Moving her attention to the center of the warehouse floor she saw two people in strange costumes. 'Okay Sam, let's see if all that studying about the psyco's in this town's paid off'. The two figures appeared to be males. One of the figures was wearing a patched shirt, a straw hat, and a scarecrows mask. 'That looks like scarecrow'. The other man was wearing a large blue coat, a large black top hat, and an extremely large black bow tie. On his hat he had a car that said 10/6 on it. 'That must be the Mad Hatter'. She smiled at herself happy that she remembered the names and could identify them. Then taking notice of their surrounding she noticed that they each had a little lab set up for them and that they were finishing up the last of their products mumbling to themselves and each other. Kitty lifted her camera to her face and snapped a photo. Sid and Joe loaded the last two tanks.
"We need to move now." Catwoman said quickly.
The truck started. Catwoman and Kitty eminently stood up. Before she could react Kitty saw two figures jump down from the ceiling capes flailing. Batman and Robin swooped down and began their attack on Scarecrow and the Mad Hatter. Catwoman and Kitty jumped down too. Catwoman sprinted forward and stopped the truck while Kitty grabbed some gas vials (I don't actually know what to call it) and moved to the back of the van. Grabbing the handle she slipped inside. Placing the tube on the top of the tank she turned the handle and took some samples. Placing the samples on her belt and slipped out of the truck locking the door. She bolted around the truck in time to see Catwoman be blindsided by Scarecrow. Falling to the ground and yelping in pain Scarecrow ran past her and hopped in the truck driving it away. Still fighting the Mad Hatter Batman and robin surrounded him as Kitty ran to Catwoman's side. Silently thanking her father for teaching her about the medical field she discovered that the fall caused Catwoman to burse her arm bone. Helping her up Kitty looked over to see Batman and Robin begin to corner the Mad Hatter. Thinking fast she grabbed a discarded rope and ran forward. Too distracted by the pair of male heroes in front of him he didn't notice a small female in the shadows flip over him landing nimbly behind his back before she swept his legs out from under him and tied him up quickly stepping back to admire her work.
"Sorry, nothing personal, it's just…..um….well….my job?" She said whole heartedly. She didn't really know what to call this hero/villain/rogue thing so she went with that. Catwoman walked up to them slowly holding her arm. Batman picked the Mad Hatter up by the lapels of his jacket and started the interrogation. Catwoman looked at Kitty and signaled to go, she needed her arm checked out properly to see if she had hurt anything else. Catwoman jogged towards the exit while Kitty stood their torn. Should she stay with Batman and Robin, turn the Mad Hatter over and get information? Or should she leave and help Catwoman, the woman to which she owed so much. Conflicted she turned to follow Catwoman staying only long enough to hear the Mad Hatter say "Victor Freeze."
