Chapter 3: A Day With Just You

Sasuke's P.O.V.

I'm falling and falling, falling for an eternity. Then suddenly, I hit the ground. I open my eyes, frightened, and then huff as I realize that I fell out of bed. I get up and get dressed, ready to hang around town. Anything but staying alone in my empty apartment.

I eat breakfast from a food stand and walk around some more, bored. Someone giggles behind me. I glance back and see a group of girls following me. I walk a little faster and take a few turns, hoping to lose them. They barely keep up so I start sprinting and rounding more corners, confident I will lose them now. I round a corner and suddenly, I'm on the ground. Looking over to see my attacker, I realize it's Naruto. "Watch where you're going, Dobe," I say as I stand up and brush myself off, embarrassed.

Naruto gasps. "You're the one who ran into me!"

I smirk. "Sure..."

He jumps up from the ground and gets in my face. "Do you wanna fight?"

It'd be too easy to just close the gap between our faces. "It wouldn't be much of a fight when it's obvious that I'll win."

Naruto growls. "Oh yeah! Well why don't we find out!"

Don't kiss him. Don't kiss him. "Sure."

We walk to the training grounds, Naruto jabbering about his power and how he'll win and whatnot. It doesn't take long before we take our stances. We stare at each other, daring the other to make the first move. Naruto throws two kunai, which I dodge easily. It has begun.

There are kunai soaring through the air, trees breaking, a hit to the head, a jab to the knee, until finally we have to stop for breath. Naruto runs at me and I try to dodge, but I don't move fast enough with my tired limbs. I accidently trip Naruto and as he falls to the ground, he grabs the ankle that tripped him, making me fall on top of him. My body is lying across Naruto's. We lie there for a few minutes to rest, his breathing making my body move up and down.

Naruto finally catches his breath and pushes me of of him. I blush a little. He sits up, his legs crossed. I lean up against the nearest tree. Naruto hums, "Well, does that mean we tie?"

I look at Naruto, remembering how warm he was, then look up at the sky to hide my red face. The sky is dark now. How long have we been sparring? "I guess it does."

We sit in comfortable silence, trying to recover from the intense spar session. Snow starts to fall from the sky and I shiver a little, hugging my jacket to me. I look to Naruto to see how he is coping without a jacket and notice his whole body is shivering. I stand up and walk over to him, slipping the jacket off and placing it on his shoulders. Naruto is about to object, but he sneezes instead. I pull him up with his arm. It's too warm for being outside in the snow. Damn, he must have a fever. I help Naruto slip his arms through the sleeves and put my arm around Naruto's waist, trying not to blush, to walk him. His shivering is so intense, it becomes difficult for him to walk. I sigh and look around with a red face. No one is around now that it started snowing again. I crouch down and let Naruto fall onto my back. He snuggles into my back as I hold his legs and carry him to my apartment, the closest of our two homes. I try to think of anything other than the warmth soaking in through my back.

After struggling to open the door and taking off our shoes, I drop Naruto on the couch a little roughly. Oops. Naruto looks at me and smiles shakily, still shivering. "Th-th-thank y-you, S-s-s-s-Sasuke."

I huff. "Don't talk, Dobe. Take off that jacket."

Naruto hurriedly shakes his head. "N-no!"

I go to the hallway closet and pull out a blanket. "How about we trade?"

He throws the jacket at me and takes the blanket from my hands. I shake my head and watch him snuggle himself into a cacoon. I go to the kitchen and start a pot of peppermint tea, wondering what I should do. I've never had to nurse anyone back to health. The tea finishes and I take a cup to the living room. Naruto is sitting quietly on the couch, his eyes starting to droop closed. He looks up when he hears me enter and smiles. "What's that?"

"Peppermint tea," I answer, handing it to him. "It'll help your fever."

Naruto looks into the cup and says, "You're nice. Thank you," before gulping down the tea, then yelling at how hot it is.

I roll my eyes. "I'm going to bed, Dobe. Don't break anything."

He nods and lies down on the couch, falling asleep instantly. I smile as I turn off the lights and go to my room when I start to worry. Would he be alright in the living room by himself? Is the couch comfortable enough? I shake me head to clear it. Just go to sleep, Sasuke.

The next morning, the first thing I see when I open my eyes is thin white smoke trails coming from under the door. I jump out of bed and run out of the room. I cautiously follow the smoke to the kitchen, where the smoke is the thickest. I fight through the smoke and find the problem quickly. I turn off the stove and start trying to wave some of the smoke away when Naruto bumps into me and we both fall to the ground. I jump up and open the kitchen window, letting the smoke out. Once the air in the kitchen has cleared up, I look at Naruto, staring at the ground, still sitting where he fell.

"Dobe, what the hell were you doing to my kitchen!"

Naruto looks up and pouts. I have to restrain myself from jumping the boy. "I was just trying to cook you breakfast since you helped me yesterday. And since I know you don't eat a lot of ramen, which by the way I think is weird..." Naruto sighs in defeat. "I don't know how to cook anything but ramen."

I look away from him to hide my red cheeks and small smile. "Go sit at the table. I'll fix us something."

"But-"

"Just do it, Naruto," I say, giving him a stern look.

He shuts his mouth and sits down. I dump the burnt black things that I think were supposed to be eggs into the trash and start cooking. Naruto will be the first person I have cooked for besides myself. I start feeling nervous as he watches me. When I turn off the stove, Naruto cheers and rubs his hands together. "Oh, this is going to be good. I'm starving!"

I set our plates on the table and Naruto starts digging in immediately. I sit down across from him at the dining table. I look up at Naruto every now and then. He looks better than he did last night. Maybe whatever heals him so fast got rid of the fever? Anyway, he seems to be enjoying the food. Maybe it's not bad. Naruto finishes his plate when someone knocks on the front door. I stand up and push my plate to the blond. "Thanks Sasuke!"

Looking through the peephole, I sigh then open the door to a smiling pink-haired girl.

"Hey Sasuke! Team 7 was called to the Hokage's office for another mission."

"Okay."

I stare, waiting for Sakura to leave. She shifts from one leg to the other, nervous. Sakura's face pinkens and I grunt.

"What?"

"Um. Do you happen to know where Naruto is? Since his apartment was close to mine, I went there first, but he wasn't there."

I stare at the girl. Should I ignore her and shut the door in her face or should I be nicer? Hmm. Tough choice.

"You're right! Why would you know where that idiot is?" she says quickly.

Naruto chooses that time to yell from the kitchen. "Yo Teme! Who's at the door?"

Sakura tiptoes to look over my shoulder into the apartment and then looks at me, curious. I glare at the pinkette, daring her to voice her question. Sakura gulps, turns around, and walks away, not saying a word. Just what I thought.

I close the door and turn around, only to bump into Naruto. He barely catches himself from falling. "Damn it! What was that for?"

"How was I supposed to know you were behind me? You were just in the kitchen," I say, holding my hand out to him.

Once on his feet, Naruto rubs his butt, probably sore from hitting the floor. I have to swallow. The damn blond doesn't know what he's doing to me. "I finished and came to see who you were talking to. I can't imagine anyone actually visiting you."

"I can say the same for you."

Naruto huffs and crosses his arms. "Well. Whatever."

I walk past Naruto as I reluctantly tell him, "It was Sakura. She was telling me that Team 7 was called to the Hokage's office for a mission."

The blond gasps. "Aw! I could've said hi! Why didn't you tell me she was at the door? You know how much I like her."

I ignore the comment and walk to my room to get away from Naruto. My chest constricts at the words. "Stupid Naruto..." I mumble.
