Here is The Boy on The Ground. Take two!

Disclaimer: I don't own Percy Jackson, Avatar: The Last Airbender

Chapter 13

As Percy raised his sword, the blade glinting in the morning light as he started closing the gap between the two groups, it occurred to Aang that Percy was going to kill.

He wasn't just going to scare them off, or run them away, he was going to kill them. He was going to kill them with a sword.

Aang didn't have time to think about it anymore as the two groups met.

With a blast of airbending, Aang launched himself over the group of monsters and landed lightly on the ground. He pushed the winds towards the backs of the snake women, causing them to fall forwards right onto Percy's sword.

Aang almost cried out at the violence but stopped when instead of falling dead, the snake women turned into yellow dust that blew away in the wind.

He didn't have time to dwell on why or how it happened because he was soon ducking in between the remaining monsters as they swung their makeshift clubs and weapons at him, hissing and cursing.

Most of them wanted Percy, Aang could tell, but they didn't overlook the Avatar, either.

"Fool, boy!" One of them hissed at Aang. "Thiss issssn't your fights!" She bared her teeth and swung her club.

Aang used earth bending to knock her down and then air bending to throw her backwards.

"As soon as someone is in danger, it becomes my fight, lady." Aang told her.

There was only three of the monsters left. Two on Percy, one for Aang. The scaly, green face of the ugly monster bared down on Aang, he hadn't killed one yet, only shoving them towards Percy at convenient times.

She swung her spear at Aang and without thinking, her drew a large bolder from the ground behind her, and dropped it on her head. Some of the yellow dust floated up from the ground before it disappeared.

Aang turned to look at Percy. His face was flushed an angry red and his eyes were shooting sparks at the last standing monster.

"You little monster." Percy seethed. "If I ever hear you say that again, not only will I send you back to Tartarus, but I will go down there myself to make sure your regeneration is slow and painful."

And with that he drove the tip of the sword into her ice cold heart. Aang looked away but it didn't block out the scream that escaped her lips before she died.

Percy was still breathing heavily and muttering to himself. "That little… can't believe the nerve…. I've never… killed her myself."

"Uh, Percy?" Aang asked, carefully. "You okay?"

"Hhm?" Percy looked up. "Oh, yeah, fine… She just said some very rude things about my girlfriend… It amazes me how much those monsters gossip, something."

"Percy, did they die?" Aang asked. His conscience was screaming at him.

Percy shrugged. "Sort of. You can't really kill a monster, just send them to Tartarus where they have to restore their bodies and stuff. Long, painful, business that is, too." He added. "I hope they don't come back for a long time. They had a couple of nasty tongues."

"Right…" Aang thought it over. "But that isn't murder?"

"Nope, your conscience is clear." Percy smiled. "They'll come back and they hold grudges, too."

"Aang!" Katara called out from above.

Appa was floating just above them, Katara waved quickly. "C'mon! We should go."

Aang grabbed Percy by the arm and launched them both into the air and landed lightly in the middle of the saddle.

Percy immediately dropped to his knees. "Jeez, give me a warning, will you?" He said as they took off into the clouds.

"What happened?" Sokka asked, leaning over the edge of the saddle, looking at the rapidly disappearing land. "Did you fight them all?"

"Are you hurt?" Katara asked. She started checking over Aang and Percy, looking for injuries.

"I'm fine." Percy insisted. "They were… slow…" He looked thoughtful. "They probably just crossed over and were still weak and tired, hopefully."

He rolled his shoulder. "I still managed to get clubbed pretty good on the back though."

"Here." Katara pulled her hip flask over and pulled the cork. She pulled the water out and incased it on her hand.

Percy looked skeptical but allowed her to pull his shirt back and rub her hand over the already bruising mark on his back.

He relaxed the second she touched him.

"Ah, that feels good." He told her.

Everyone else nodded. They had all had Katara's healing powers used on them at some point and they were all grateful for it. Nothing felt quite as good as being healed by the magic, glowing, blue water.

"Percy!" A voice called out.

They all jumped and looked around. Annabeth was standing in the frame of a wall of rainbow mist.

"Annabeth." Percy pulled away from Katara and moved close to her.

"Percy," Annabeth repeated. Her face was flushed and her eyes were too bright. She look rather feverish. "We've just discovered crucial information for the quest- Wait, are you guys flying?"

"Yeah, we're floating on a giant, flying bison with an arrow tattoo." Percy moved closer so he could hear over the rushing wind. "What's this crucial information?"

"Well, you see. There are two walls."

There was an uneasy silence as everyone took it in. Worried glanced were subtly exchanged between the group. Each trying to mass the small seed of panic in their own stomachs.

"What do you mean two?" Zuko was the first to speak. His voice was slow and unsure as if he may have heard wrong.

"I mean two." Annabeth repeated. "Two walls that are breaking…" She chewed her lower lip and Aang got the feeling that the worst was yet to come.

"One of them is a physical wall, and you were right, by the way." She looked at Zuko. "All my resources point to the volcano on the edge of the Fire Nation."

"But the other wall?" Percy prompted her to keep going.

"The other wall…" Annabeth sighed and cracked her knuckles, a bad habit she had picked up a while ago. "I have no idea how we're going to fix it… It's a kind of spiritual wall, I guess."

"A spirit wall…" Aang mulled it over. He couldn't decide if that was good news or bad news, for him. "Well, how are we supposed to find or fix that? I can't get into the Spirit World anymore." Only another reason why he should feel guilty about this whole mess.

"It's not your fault, Aang." Katara laid a hand on his shoulder.

"Whatever." Aang jerked away from her touch and refused to look her in the eye. No matter what anyone said, this was still going to be his fault.

"So, where's Nico?" Percy asked, trying to ignore the awkward silence.

Annabeth pressed her lips and shuffled some papers before answering. "On a quest."

When Percy didn't answer she sighed and looked right in his eyes. "It's important, Percy!" She said. "The walls need to be tendered to on both sides. I know you want to protect him from everything but we need his help."

"Whose quest is it?" Percy asked, tight lipped. "Is Nico leading it?"

Annabeth nodded. "Yep, he was chosen to lead, and he picked Michael, my brother, to go and that really big kid from the Hephaestus cabin to go."

"All the kids from the Hephaestus cabin are big." Percy deadpanned.

"Hey, Annabeth." Aang moved in view of the Iris message. This talk meant nothing to him and he was anxious to get all of his questions asked. "Do you have any idea on how to fix the either of the walls, yet?"

Annabeth shook her head and opened her mouth to say something when the IM flickered dangerously.

Everyone held their breath as the waited for it to settle down. The message went transparent for a few moments, the sun shining through the mist, before it went solid again.

"Unfortunately, no." Annabeth continued as if nothing had happened. "All I know is that it's in a volcano, I don't even know if it's a legitimate wall."

"Hey, Annabeth." Percy's eye glinted mischievously. "Remember the last time we were in a volcano?" He made a kissing noise.

Annabeth was unamused, obviously, as her face went emotionless and still. "Yeah, and then you blew it up, went missing for two weeks and had hundreds of people evacuated from their homes and possibly woke Typhon, who would have destroyed the whole world if you hadn't convinced your dad to sacrifice his city in order to fix it."

Percy barely missed a beat. "Yeah, but you kissed me."

Annabeth rolled her eyes, blushing slightly.

"You guys kissed in a live volcano?" Sokka asked.

Annabeth and Percy both blushed furiously when they remembered that they had an audience. They both had forgotten that they were in different worlds and not together.

"I wasn't sure if he was going to live, okay?" Annabeth defended herself.

Katara had a sudden flashback to when Aang kissed her before the invasion on the Day of Black Sun and felt her own cheeks burning hot.

Annabeth flicked her yellow head back, the whole gang loved her hair. In their world, all of the hair was brown, black, grey or white. None of it was golden like hers.

"It's not that big of a deal." She said.

"Anyways, the wall." Percy brought the subject back.

"Yeah, yours is in a volcano and ours is in the bottom of the ocean."

"Awe! For real?" Percy whined. "I should be there."

"I know." Annabeth replied. "But we have the gods finally doing something. Your dad blessed the quest."

"That's good." Percy nodded, but he didn't feel good. He only blessed the quest? How about he tells him how to complete the quest? Or give him any guidance… that would be nice.

"Isn't it weird that they're only just helping now?" Zuko asked. "Aren't they gods? Shouldn't they care about every form of life? Isn't that their job?"

"They're old…" Annabeth said sadly. "It's exhausting watching all of your children die horrible deaths - no matter what you, an Olympian god, try to do… They've sort of given up on a lot of things."

"If the gods are getting involved, it must be bad." Percy said. "How much does camp know?"

Annabeth shrugged. "They know all that we do. We kind of had to explain Nico's quest and your disappearance."

The IM flickered again and Momo trembled on Sokka's shoulders. He wanted to jump into the moving bright colours that made noise. It was infuriating not being able to touch it.

"Also, your mom knows, but we decided not to tell Paul for a while, you know he's still really new to all of this stuff." Percy smiled softly to himself, remembering his parents.

"I should go." Annabeth said, finally. "Let me know how fixing the wall goes! And also, if any more monsters get through." She smiled. "I love you, Seaweed Brain."

"I love you, too, Wise Girl." Percy smiled back.

Just as Annabeth reached out to swipe the IM away, Momo decided that it was his last chance to get the moving colours and he jumped right through the IM, disconnecting it.

"Momo!" Katara scolded. "You're going to kill us all, one day."

Aang reached over and scratched Momo's ears. "I think he's likely to save us." He said. "A brave lemur might come in handy someday." It almost offended Aang when Katara said that, Momo was his brave little lemur; the last of his kind, too, just like him.

Percy held back a sigh and turned away from the group. There was a hole in his chest the size of Annabeth and it made him feel pretty bad inside.

Also, he had hardly thought about his mom since this certain adventure had started. That made him feel guilty. The way he treated his own mother sometimes disgusted him. She was so amazing and proud of him when he did something right, and understanding when it went wrong. She really should be a queen.

Now that guilt settled in his chest, right beside the Annabeth-shaped pain. The pain doubled and seemed to weigh him down.

Percy laid down and stared at the clouds above and beside the floating Appa. He tried to distract himself with trying to move them around and shape them. It was really hard but he managed to make one slightly resemble his Pegasus back home, Blackjack.

A large bird flew through the cloud, scattering Blackjack's rear end. He squawked and dove out of the way as Momo flew at him and started a chase.

Percy let a groan escape his lips and rolled over to stuff his face in the blue, furry, sleeping bag by his head.

Katara came and flopped down beside his head. She wrapped her arms around her knees and smiled at the back of Percy's hair.

"Hey, you okay?" She asked.

"Mm-hm." Came Percy's muffled reply from the sleeping bag.

"Alright, look, I know you said guys don't like to talk about stuff like this, but it really does help getting it off your chest. Nobody said that anyone has to carry their burdens by themselves, you know."

Percy sighed as loudly and as exasperated as he could through the sleeping bag and put both hands over his head, as if he could push himself further into the bag and disappear.

Katara narrowed her eyes at him.

"Aang talks to me." She said. "And Zuko sometimes, too. I've even had a few good chats with Toph, and she's the toughest guy I know."

Percy couldn't help grinning into the sleeping bag. Man, she was persistent.

"All that bottled up anger or worry is unhealthy, trust me, I know." She added.

He rolled over and peeked at her through his half-closed eyes. He put and arm behind his head and settled into a comfortable position, half sitting half laying down.

"You're not going to leave me alone until I spill my guts to you, are you?" He asked.

She shrugged her shoulders and smiled slightly, amusement danced on her face. Her long, dark hair fell into her eyes and she played with it, looking as innocent as possible.

"Well, I guess I'm just feeling a little bit guilty." He started. He kept his eyes closed so that he wouldn't have to look at her. "For being sucked away, I'm always getting into trouble and when I do, it effects a lot of people close to me. I'm kind of like a bomb, I keep going off and hurting the people around me, who I want nothing more than to just protect them."

Katara nodded sadly, understanding.

The wind was blowing softly in the late afternoon. The black mess of hair on Percy's head waved gently in the wind and Katara couldn't help but to gaze at it – at him. She didn't think she was in love with him, and even if she was, there was no competing with Annabeth. But still, there was something incredibly fascinating about Percy; the way he carried himself, fought, talked and cared. He was so full of flaws and yet he seemed so perfectly content with them.

"You can't blame yourself." Katara forced out of her lips. "It's not like you planned this and wanted it to happen."

"Yeah… I know."

There was a few minutes of comfortable silence between the two.

"Who do you feel the most guilty for leaving?" Katara asked.

Percy peeked out at her through his eyelashes. "I dunno… Probably my mom." He said.

Katara's hand went to her necklace and she fingered it sadly.

"You're lucky to have such a good mom." She said softly.

"Like I said, I know."
