I apologize for the lateness of this update. For the past several weeks I have been fighting a nasty viral bronchitis, which led to me being diagnosed with costochondritis. The medications that I have been taking are some of the strongest out there, and as a result I was too tired to work on much of anything. Now that I am done with taking the medication, I can fully work on getting this rewrite done.
Disclaimer: Don't own Doctor Who...
On an unknown planet…
Winds are howling across the vast and empty landscape of a cold, dark planet. From space, one would dismiss this planet's black surface as being devoid of life. However, if one was to scan beneath the surface of this black planet, they would see the massive cavern structures. The inhabitants of this planet had been left in solitude for many centuries, until a visitor from another world made contact with them. And since the visitor's arrival, the inhabitants have benefited from his knowledge.
In one of the underground caverns, is a medical center that has a mixture of the best equipment in the universe and old-fashioned, original medical equipment of the inhabitants. It is in one of the rooms, in the medical center, that a blond-haired human female is lying a table made of rock and metal. Above her body is an image of the inside of her body, that is made out of a living, liquid-like material.
One of the inhabitants, a female with the pale, white skin and large black eyes, walks around the table. In her hands is a thin, see-through tablet which she is tapping away on with her extra-long fingers. The liquid image above the human female changes to show the growing child within. The alien female moves closer to the image; fascination is what the she feels as seeing this tiny body, which is growing in the human. Her own species do not bear their young in this manner, and seeing this difference has the alien female wanting to observe the process of this human female's bearing of her young.
"How is our prisoner, Khaless?"
The alien, Khaless, turns abruptly and bows to the new comer in her lab. "My lord. Her vital are stable from what I can tell with the information you gave me about humans. It is remarkable that humans are able to bear their offspring inside the females' bodies."
"Yes, but it is so barbaric." The new comer sneers in revolt of the idea. His people were more refined than this, using looms to create their offspring.
"So this is the female companion to the Doctor, Morbius?" Another voice says from the arched entryway to the room. The man is an older gentleman with black hair that is in a mohawk style on his head. His black robes and large gold collar swish as he walks in a circle around the table in the room.
"From what I can tell, she is. However, it looks to me as though that she is more than just a companion to the Doctor." Morbius replies without revealing himself from under his cloak and hood.
"So the Doctor found someone with whom he can breed with. He should have taken better care to keep her and their child safe." The man in black says as his eyes roam over the woman on the table.
"My lords." Khaless says softly. She is afraid to interrupt their conversation, but the readings on her tablet is starting to fluctuate. "Something is happening."
The three of them watch with great interest as the human female's body begins to glow. The gold color intensifies and causes all of the medical equipment in the room to explode. As sparks and small flames destroy the equipment, the eyes of everyone in the room focus on the human, who is now awake and standing next to the table.
"Where am I?" An ethereal and strong voice says from the human. The white, long gown that she is wearing flaps around her limbs as the golden glow wraps itself around her.
"So you are awake my dear?" Morbius says to the woman.
"Where am I? Where is my Doctor? What have you done to him?" The voice shouts and a gust of wind shoots out in warning.
"Calm down, child. The stress isn't good for an unborn child you carry." Khaless calmly says as she approaches the glowing woman.
The woman, however, has all of time and space flowing through her and knows what the female alien plans to do. She raises a hand at Khaless and in an instant the female alien is surrounded by wind and gold. Then, in a move of self-preservation, the power that the woman holds begins to tear the alien female into tiny particles.
"By Rassilon. I never thought it was possible." Morbius whispers out in fear and fascination by what is happening.
"Oh it is possible." The man in the black robes says with a morbid smile on his face. "A Goddess of Time itself; yet she still doesn't know of her full potential."
With Khaless gone, the woman glares at the two who are left in the room with her. With all of time and space flowing through her, Rose's consciousness is afraid that she will not survive this. Though for some strange reason, her anxiety about her death is eased away by another consciousness.
'You have nothing to fear, Rose Tyler. I will protect you and the child.' A strong and powerful whispers through the energy that is flowing in Rose's body.
'Who are you?' Rose asks. 'Are you Bad Wolf?'
'I am you and you are me, Rose Tyler. We are one and fate keeps us together. Though if you wish to call me Bad Wolf, you may.'
'Where am I, and where is the Doctor?' Rose asks her Bad Wolf persona.
'He is not here to help us. We must help ourselves. Our Doctor has many enemies, and the strongest of them all has us.'
'So what do we do?'
'We fight.'
'How?'
'We merge together, completely. Become one. Then they die.'
Before Bad Wolf can follow through with its plan, both Rose and Bad Wolf's consciousness scream out in agony. For while the two of them had their internal discussion, someone took advantage of their lack of attention on the outside world. Bad Wolf lets out a howl, that echoes through the vortex, until everything goes dark.
In the time vortex…
In the two days since Rose's disappearance, the Doctor still cannot figure out how Rose was taken. He had searched through all of the footage that the hospital's camera had captured. Yet there was no sign of Rose or anyone taking Rose from any of the cameras. Finding no evidence of tampering, the Doctor had sent the Tardis into the time vortex after contacting Jack Harkness about the situation.
The Doctor is sitting on the jump seat, head in his hands, trying to use his bond with Rose to find her. But just like when she was taken to the parallel world, the Doctor can't feel anything from Rose. He can feel his two kids, but not her.
With enough force to startle her family, the Tardis shutters violently in the time vortex as a massive shockwave hits the Tardis shields. The force of the initial hit has caused the occupants of the Tardis to land on the floor. The Tardis recognizes what the shockwave is, but not from where in time or space it came from. Yet the Tardis tries to take readings from the shockwave for the Doctor to be able to analyze.
The Doctor, is laid out on the floor, slowly moves to his hands and knees once the shaking is over with.
"What was that?" He asks while looking up at the console.
Not missing a beat, he gets up on his feet, and in two long strides reaches the console. Looking over the data that the Tardis was able to get from the shockwave, the Doctor begins running every test he knows on it. Never before has the Doctor felt a shockwave that he wasn't at the epicenter of.
"Daddy?" A small, scared voice calls out from the hallway.
The Doctor leans to the left, so that he can see past the console, and sees his son coming into the console room. He is still in his navy blue, with yellow stars all over, pajamas and an 8 inch stuffed replica of the Tardis is being clutched against his chest. His little left cheek is sporting a dark red mark, just under his eye.
"You alright, Jack?" The Doctor asks his son, rushing over to the boy so that he can scan him with the sonic screwdriver.
"I'm ok. Was tossed out of bed. What did it?" Jack watches as the Doctor begins to scan him for any other injury.
"There was a shockwave in the time vortex." The Doctor explains to his son, while continuing on with the scan.
"How is that possible?"
"It isn't supposed to be possible, but something caused it and this time it wasn't me." The Doctor says, not really caring if he has just ousted himself as having caused on himself.
"Oh. Have you found mommy?" Jack asks with hope shining in his eyes.
"I haven't." The Doctor sadly replies and pulls Jack into a hug. "But we are going to visit someone who just might be able to help us find her."
Jack giggles a bit as he feels the Tardis's displeasure on just who the Doctor is referring to. Burying his face into his father's shoulder, Jack takes a deep breath and instantly begins to feel calmer than he did before going to bed.
Torchwood Hub…
The lights are low in the underground hub that houses the last remains of what was once a Torchwood facility. Yet two of the three people who work in the hub are awake during the late night hours. One of them is reviewing camera footage, while the other is trying to use an old blood sample to pinpoint where on Earth Rose could be.
Gwen is typing away like a mad woman on the keyboard in front of her. She had used her former status of policewoman to gain access to the footage from the hospital, with help from her former coworker Andy.
"Damn!" Gwen curses out loud while slamming the mouse hard onto the surface of her work space.
"Careful there, Gwen. Don't need you breaking another mouse or keyboard." Jack Harkness shouts from his place on the other side of the room.
He watches as the brunette haired woman lets out a sigh of frustration. Moving away from his workplace, Harkness walks over to where Gwen is and peers over her shoulder to have a look the computer screen.
"I don't get it." Gwen growls out in frustration before clicking the mouse so that the footage plays again.
On the computer screen, in black and white, is Rose as she walks down the hallway of the hospital. Then she turns to enter the ladies loo. This is when Gwen freezes the camera recording.
"You can see her go in, but she never leaves. I even used the CCTV cameras from the street and still nothing. Not even a recording of her entering the building."
Jack places a hand on Gwen's shoulder and gives it a comforting squeeze. He knows that Gwen has always been one to care about people, and that this disappearance has her frustrated.
"Rosie didn't enter the hospital the old fashioned way. The Doctor parked the Tardis in the hospital, so there isn't any footage of their entrance." He tells Gwen while letting out a frustrated sigh of his own.
Gwen looks at Jack and gives him a sad smile. "She is your friend, Jack, and I want to help you find her. But you told me that here on Earth is recorded as being among the dead from the Canary Wharf incident. So trying to find a paper trail is useless."
"I know, and trying to do a search on the Doctor would be too extensive. Plus, I really don't want UNIT to become aware of this. It's bad enough that the man in charge still hasn't forgiven me about a certain incident back in the sixties." Jack rambles on, not realizing he just told Gwen something about his past.
Before Gwen can ask Jack about it a familiar sound begins to echo in the Torchwood cavern. Then there is a soft wind that begins blowing as faint outlines from the infamous blue box begin to appear and become more defined. Both occupants watch as the blue police box finishes materializing in the center of the room, and one of the doors opens up.
Stepping out of the Tardis, with his son in his arms, is the Doctor. Following closely behind him is Jenny and Luke.
"Doc." Harkness calls out as he hurries over to where the Doctor and his family are. "We haven't been able to find anything different from when you called us."
"I need to speak with you Harkness, alone." The Doctor says to the Captain with a stern voice before looking over at Jenny and Luke. "You two stay here and see if you can help Gwen with the computers."
Harkness, not missing a beat, nods his head. He walks away, knowing that the Doctor is following him. Deciding to use his office, Jack Harkness makes his way there. Once he reaches his office, Harkness turns on the lights, and discovers that he has rudely woken up a sleeping Ianto.
"Sir?' Ianto mumbles out groggily as he nearly flies off of the couch.
"We need the room, and maybe some tea." Harkness says to Ianto as he gives Ianto a charming smile.
"Right away." Ianto answers back as he quickly pulls on his suit jacket and scurries out of the room.
During this exchange the Doctor not paying any attention to the two lovers, but feels his son's laughter over it through their bond. This causes the Doctor to roll his eyes and wonder if his son understood why Jack Harkness felt wrong. But then again, his son was young and might understand the seriousness of a fixed point in time.
"So Doc, what is it that you need to talk to me about in private?" Harkness asks as he gives a smile at Rosie and the Doctor's son.
"There was a powerful ripple that went through the time vortex, and I wondered if you had any readings of it from the rift here."
"Not that I was aware of, but I could have Ianto look into it. Just how powerful was the ripple?"
"Enough to cause damage to the Tardis." The Doctor says before pulling out a data cube from one of his pockets. He hands it over to his former companion before speaking again. "All the information that the Tardis was able to collect I copied into that cube. Might I suggest that you destroy it once you are done reviewing it. Wouldn't want anyone getting their hands on it."
"Agreed." Harkness says as he takes the data cube from the Doctor. Then he gives the small boy a smile and a wink. "How's be doing with Rosie's disappearance?"
"He's still shaken up. His connection to Rose has been broken, like mine has. Without his bond to Rose, Jack's bond to his other parent will become stronger. It's a defense mechanism that Time Tots have, and one that I am all too familiar with myself. Yet I will not begrudge my son's need to feel safe and protected. Though I will always try to keep him safe."
Jack lifts his head from the Doctor's shoulder and looks into his father's face before placing a kiss on his cheek.
Harkness lets out a chuckle at the interaction between father and son. Deep inside, Jack Harkness make a silent vow to always be there for the Doctor, Rosie, and their kids. To protect them, to keep them safe. Yet there is a cold spot within this immortal man that reminds him of his already broken vows to keep his team members safe. Shaking off the cold shiver that ran down his spine, Harkness looks at boy who shares his name.
"How about a banana split?" Harkness asks the boy in the Doctor's arms.
The boy's face lights up and bobs his head up and down. "Can we daddy, please?"
The Doctor gets a grin on his face. "Of course we can. Extra bananas too."
Both the Doctor and Harkness laugh as Jack lets out a squeal of delight at having more bananas than ice cream.
Back on the unknown planet…
Lying strapped down on table made of rock, Rose's prone body is covered not just by a small gown, but by a golden glow as well.
"So the Doctor has a wife, who is with child." A woman with an eye patch states from behind a glass window that looks into the room.
"It would appear so." Morbius replies to the woman. "Though if the rumors are correct, the Doctor already has a son with this woman."
"Shame that we could not get our hands on his son." The woman says as she keeps watching Rose's glowing form. "Why does she glow like that? Is she like the Doctor?"
"It is unknown as to why the human female is surrounded by time energy." Morbius answers while leaving out other important details.
Ever since the woman was brought here, Morbius has begun to question the motives of the one who is the mastermind behind it all. His trust in his partner has started to fall apart after learning of this woman being added to their plans. He especially doesn't like those creatures that she brought with her.
"It is a pity that your people were reduced to this. The Doctor procreating with a human for your race to continue. It is said that he destroyed his own world, your world, in an effort to end the Time War. Yet he failed to end the war, but began to spread it to others instead. That is why I accepted the invitation to join forces with you both. To stop the destruction that the Doctor leaves in his wake." The woman says before walking away.
Morbius doesn't watch the woman leave, knowing that if he did he wouldn't remember their conversation thanks to the creature that follows the woman around. He agrees that the Doctor needs to be stopped, but at what cost? Then there is the Doctor's wife to bring into the equation. If she truly is a goddess of time, she would be even more of a threat than her husband. Especially if she were to learn to use that power as a weapon.
Walking away from the window, Morbius is too lost in his thoughts to notice that something is off. Turning the corner, Morbius does not see a figure step out of the shadows and into Rose's room. Its black cloak stays close the body underneath, and the hood is deep so that it blocks any light from touching the face. The figure walks up to where Rose is lying, but doesn't reach out to touch her.
Turning slightly to see if anything was by the window, the figure's arms push past the long opening of the cloak. Reaching up, the figure pushes the hood of the cloak back, revealing their face. It is a man with dirty blonde colored hair and blue eyes. He looks back at Rose before pulling out a sonic screwdriver with a green light at the end. Quickly turning the sonic screwdriver on, the man sweeps the instrument over Rose's body a few times till it shuts off on its own. Stashing the sonic screwdriver back underneath the black cloak, the man leans towards Rose's ear and whispers to her.
"They won't take your child like they did mine. The Oncoming Storm is coming for his Bad Wolf."
The man backs away from Rose as the golden light around her brightens before dimming down again in response to the words. Then the man pulls the hood back up over his head and exits the room, where another figure wearing a black cloak is waiting for him.
"Hard to believe that the woman in there is our Doctor's Rose." A female voice with a Scottish accent says to the man. "Were able to scan her like he asked?"
"I did." The man replies as they move quickly through the rock made hallways. "I still don't understand why he can't just pick her up and take her back to his other self."
"You know why he can't." the woman replies as she keeps her eyes open for any sign of trouble.
"Ah yes. The infamous paradox of the same two people being in the same space at the same time." The man replies as they turn a corner and continue walking towards the Tardis.
So there it is folks, another rewritten chapter with some new additions to it. I am having so much fun with this rewrite that it should be illegal. Also to clarify for some of you, the additions that are being added in this rewrite will be explained in the third story of this series, which the first three chapters are already up.
Reviews are cherished and loved.
