Serana didn't know what to do, she stared at the path they went down, by the time the paralysis wore off it was already day and she had no idea where the bandits went with Alrek.
She sat down on the side of the road, crying slightly. She heard the bushes behind her rustle, she didn't care what it was at the moment, it could even be a damn werewolf and she wouldn't care.
"Wait...Your..."
She turned around and spotted a Red head, It was Aela.
"You...You were with Alrek when he came to visit I never caught your name..." She said, Serana sniffed and wiped her face.
"It's Serana..." She said, Aela looked at her crying figure.
"Why are you crying, and wheres Alrek?" She asked, Serana wiped the tears from her face again.
"A group of bandits came and took him...Something about killing millions of their own for the past five years...They mentioned Ysolda..." Serana said, Aela widened her eyes at that last part.
"You...Know about Ysolda?" She said, Serana nodded. "Did...He tell you what happened to her?" Serana nodded again, Aela looked down.
"It was our fault...Alrek had serious anger issues...Combine that with his beast form, and he was unstoppable...But he could never tell friend from foe...Gave us a lot of close calls..." Aela sighed. "He never forgave himself, and he never will."
She stood up. "Why did Alrek let himself get taken?" She asked, Serana shrugged. "I don't know where to find him" She said.
"I may be able to help with that..."
Aela and Serana turned towards a raspy voice to see an Argonian approaching them.
Aela drew her dagger. "And you are...?"
The argonian raised his hands. "I had thought I smelled a vampire and a werewolf, but I do not recall Alrek being a female" He said, Serana gently smiled and Iskar returned it.
"Seems we have a habit of running into each other" He said
"You can help us Iskar?" She said, The argonian nodded. Aela looked between them.
"Do you two know each other?" She asked. They both nodded.
"Iskar helped me and Alrek out once" Serana turned towards Iskar.
"How can we find him?" She asked.
"Its simple, while they are a very organized bandit group, they are still bandits. And they are sloppy. I can follow their tracks and the scent of them." Iskar said, Aela spoke up.
"I can help too." She said, Iskar glanced at her.
"You have the same scent as Alrek, are you a beast of the night as well?" He asked, Aela nodded.
"Part of the Companions as well." She boasted, Iskar nodded "The Companions? A very honorable group. You have my respects" He said. Aela smiled and thanked him.
Serana was eager to go after Alrek.
"Pathetic"
He spat on Alrek.
"Hard to believe you killed so many of my people when your sitting here not even fighting back."
Alrek didn't respond
"I KNOW you can break those chains, So why don't you!?"
He kicked him. But Alrek didn't budge.
"Oh thats right! That little necklace we cooked up for you limits your powers! Now isn't that convient..."
Alrek still didn't respond. The man sighed and stood up.
"No response? Sucks, I hate people who beg for their life..." The man left the room.
He didn't know where he was, and he didn't care...He just wanted this all to end...
Maybe the Divine's will take mercy on his soul.
"This place?"
Iskar nodded "This is where they took him..."
"I see an execution block through the gates..." Aela said scanning the fort. She noticed several guards on top of the wall and guards standing by the gate.
"How are we gonna get in?" Serana asked, Iskar scanned the area and pointed towards a rock that seemed to hang over the fort
"I'll take out the the guards on the wall. Aela, you and Serena can take out the guards by the gate. If we're lucky, we can get in before they bring Alrek up..." He said. Both of the girls nodded.
Iskar looked at the sun.
"Its probably best to wait until night..." He said, the girls agreed and they did just that
She was woken up by Aela shaking her awake, she looked up at her.
"Lets go, Alreks waiting for you..." She said smiling, Serana nodded and stood up, Iskar was already scanning the area, there were more people then during the day, but they all seemed to be to focused on the chopping block.
Iskar quietly and quickly made his way to his position on top of the rock over looking the fort, Aela and Serana silently approached the two guards and slit their throats, they made their way along the wall and found a hole that lead underground, Aela sniffed the air.
"He's in there, I can smell him...His scent hasn't changed much over the years..." She said.
Serana tilted her head at Aela "What does he smell like?" She asked, Aela smiled.
"Blood, steel, and a little bit of mead." She said with a smile, as if reminiscing on past events. She shook her head.
"Lets get in there, we're running out of time." She said, Serana nodded and they went down into the hole.
There were several jail cells, many with skeletons and some were empty. Aela quickly rushed to a jail cell and grabbed the bars.
"Alrek!" She called out, Serana ran up behind her, there was shirtless figure in tattered pants, sitting against a wall, the dimly lit room showed several scars along the figures body, his hands were chained above his head. It was no doubt Alrek.
Aela grabbed the cell door and tore it off, thanks to her werewolf strength. She turned to Serana. "Go in there and get him, I'll stand guard." She said, Serana nodded and rushed towards Alrek.
"Alrek! We're here to get you out, lets go!" She started to unchain him but he growled. She looked at him
"Alrek?" She approached him, he was staring at the ground barely breathing. "Alrek lets go, we don't have much time."
He turned to look at her. "Why...So I can run away from my past even more?" He looked back down at the ground. "Its useless...I've been running from my problems long enough..."
Serana didn't know what he was talking about, was he talking about Ysolda? But they had already fixed that issue...
"If your still upset at yourself for killing Ysolda...Don't..." She said.
"Its not that!" He said, Serana backed away, scared. He had that murderous look in his eyes he only gave to those he intended to kill. The dimly lit room made him look all more menacing.
"For those five years I've been gone I went and killed everyone that was apart of this bandit clan, not just men, women and children. NO ONE was safe from me" He returned to his previous sitting position, huddled in the corner. "I can remember their screams...And the worst part? I enjoyed it...I enjoyed every second of ending their lives..."
"Only now do I realize my mistakes...I can't keep running away from this...I must pay...With my life..." He turned his head towards her again, that same look in his eyes. "I told you to go back to the Dawnguard fortress...Yet you came here looking for me..." He looked back down at the ground "Leave while you still can...And let me die in peace"
Serana was stunned, not just at his change of personality, but to what he did.
"I can see it in your eyes...You think I'm a monster too...Your scared of me..."
Serana didn't want to be scared of him, in fact she wasn't.
"Why are you still here!?" He yelled "Leave me to die!"
Serana was tired of hearing this
SLAP!
Alrek growled loudly, his cheek turning red from the slap Serana dealt.
"I won't let you die!" She said, Alrek gritted his teeth. "And why not?" He said "Because you care about me? Don't! Your wasting you're time caring about me!"
"I CARE BECAUSE I LOVE YOU!"
Alrek looked at her, his eyes widened in surprise
"I care because you were the best thing to happen to me! I care because we've had so much experiences together! I care because you mean so much to me! Did you ever stop to think about what would happen if you died?! What would I do without you by my side!?" Serana was in tears now, leaning against his chest.
"Serana I..." He was interrupted by clapping, he looked up to see the same man from earlier...He growled, several bandits ran in and grabbed Serana and held her arms behind her back, He could see Aela in the back in the same position.
"I'm sorry...They snuck up on me..." She said.
"Wow! That was just beautiful, I've never seen such an amazing confession, only in books do you see those kind of things..." He laughed and approached Alrek.
"But this is good! Because now we can go back to our original plan to kill your friends! And then let you wander all of Skyrim haunted by your past. Its silly I know...But effective..." He turned towards the bandits
"Bring them to the chopping block, we owe our people an execution." He said, they all started to walk out of the cell.
Alrek couldn't let this happen, not after what Serana just said to him, not after finding out someone cares for him, not after finding out that there's someone who can help him.
He was going to finish the job.
He was going to kill.
All of them.
He yanked both of his hands forward, the iron bar that was stuck to the wall came off, his hands were still chained and attached to the iron bar. The man and the Bandits turned towards him.
"How did you?! The necklace..." He said. Alrek charged forwards and used to the iron bar to whack one of the bandits upside the head, one of the charged at him with a mace, he held up the bar and the mace broke it in two, he headbutted the bandit wielding the mace and grabbed it, he spun around and used the mace to cave in one of the bandits head, he parried a bandit with a sword and broke his arm, grabbing the sword. He was now duel wielding a mace and a sword, he made quick work of the rest of the bandits, freeing Serana and Aela.
Alrek walked towards the man. Who was backing away.
"How did you...That necklace should have surpressed your powers... " He said, Alrek tossed away the two weapons and grabbed the mans head.
"Please! Don't!" But his cries were in vain, as Alrek tore the mans head off and threw it against a wall. He collapsed to the ground.
Serana approached him, Aela followed behind her, Alrek's armor and weapons in her hands.
"You...Ready to go now?" Serana asked. Alrek nodded.
"You found him...Good...I sense everything went well?" Iskar said, they were faraway from the fort now, Iskar was behind the rock he hid behind.
"Not exactly...But I think it all turned out...Okay..." Serana said. Iskar approached Alrek.
"You seem troubled..." He said, Alrek looked at him and gave a slight smile.
"I'll be fine...Thank you for helping Serana and Aela find me." Alrek said, Iskar nodded and turned towards all of them.
"This is where I take my leave, I'm glad we met each other and may our paths cross again." Iskar said, they all bid their farewells and Iskar walked into the forest.
Aela turned towards Alrek and smiled, she hugged him.
"I'm glad your safe..." She backed up and leaned in and whispered into Serana's ear.
"Take good care of him, ya here?" She said, Serana blushed but nodded.
"I'm gonna head back to the companions, If you need anything don't be afraid to stop by. You're always welcome Serana." They both nodded and Aela turned and walked into the forest as well.
It was just them two now...Serana glanced at Alrek, he was staring at her.
"I suppose we should head back to Fort Dawnguard and tell them we have the bow." He said, Serana nodded and together they made their way back to Fort Dawnguard.
Iskar chuckled as he walked along the path, it was clear something had happened between those two in the cells.
He wondered would will become of those two love birds now.
Indeed, what will become of them
