Piper was almost afraid to look into the doctor's office. She didn't want to see her friend, who sounded to be even more medicated than Percy was, and she most definitely did not want to see the doctor that had caused this whole ordeal in the first place. Despite what she wanted, though, Piper had a job to do, so without a moment of hesitation, she followed Percy into the office, Hazel shortly behind her.

The doctor was a plain, plump woman, with a kind, caring face that Piper almost wanted to slap for causing them so much trouble. Unfortunately, Piper's mind soon turned to Annabeth, who was seated across from the doctor's desk, and Piper had to suppress a gasp. The daughter of Athena's skin had an unhealthy pallor, and there were deep, dark circles beneath her eyes, which were simultaneously foggy and unfocused while still seeming as whip-sharp as she remembered her friend. The effect was somewhat creepy. The worst part, though, was the tiny, swollen red dots that peppered the demigod's arms, both of which were swollen.

Annabeth was watching them with a completely blank expression, nothing to betray her except the subtle gleam of interest in her eyes, and the daughter Aphrodite was really starting to be freaked out. Percy was the first to react to the scene.

"What did you do to her?" his voice was a strangled croak.

"What are you doing here?" the doctor finally blinked away her confusion, "You're not supposed to be here, and you two aren't nurses."

Piper glanced at Hazel, whose brow was slowly furrowing as she concentrated.

"Don't bother," Percy commented, almost robotically and startling them, "She can see through the Mist."

The daughter of Aphrodite turned to the doctor, lacing her words with charmspeak, "You probably don't know us yet, we were just hired. We'll just take Annabeth back to her room."

They moved towards the demigod, but the doctor stopped them.

She wore a puzzled expression, "I- No. I oversee all hires here. You don't work here."

Piper resisted the urge to swear as the doctor fought off the magic, and she nearly did swear aloud when an alarm started going off. She glanced over at Hazel, who was miles away, as she tried to keep the entirety of the facility from cracking down on them.

"Annabeth," Piper pleaded, "We're here to take you back to New York, back to Camp."

The demigod watched her impassively, and Piper huffed, "Fine."

She pulled her emergency ambrosia from a pocket, shoving it at the demigod, who promptly popped it in her mouth. Immediately, though her physical state didn't exactly change, the demigod keeled over, arching her back as her hands shot with laser precision towards her temples.

"Annabeth," Percy cried out.

"Percy," she gasped, prying her hands away from her head and gritting her teeth, "I'm fine, we need to go."

They turned towards the door, which was being blocked by the doctor, who sounded genuinely sorry, "I apologize, but I cannot let you leave. The police will be here shortly and you two still need help."

Piper swore, "How long until the police get here?"

"Approximately seven minutes, I'd say, maybe sooner," Annabeth, of all people, responded, "They wouldn't build a medical facility like this too far from a station."

"Look," she turned to the doctor, "We need to go. I'm sorry you won't accept the mythological world as real despite it being right in front of your eyes, but we don't have time for this."

With that, Piper punched the doctor, who crumpled to the floor clutching her nose. They stepped past her into the hall, which was swarming with facility workers, and Piper could see the strain on Hazel's face as she attempted to keep them veiled as best she could. Percy and Annabeth were supporting each other, clearly, despite being in their right minds, not completely free from the effect of their extended stay, and it was obvious that this probably wasn't going to be an easy escape, but they had to be out of there before the police arrived. Once the police were there, there's no way any of them could get away from the hospital.

"This way!" Piper called as she took off running, the others following behind her as best they could.

Hazel stumbled but kept going. Percy and Annabeth were both following fairly well, but it was clear the drug hadn't completely been eradicated from Annabeth's system by how she winced with every step she took. None of the demigods complained, though, knowing how desperately they needed to get out.

They made it to the lobby, and Piper allowed herself a moment to celebrate, which was a moment too long as hospital workers flooded the room, blocking off the exits. There was a siren outside, growing steadily louder.

"Stop!" someone called, "You have no chance of escape, the police are here. Please come peacefully!"

"Hazel," Piper said softly, "Any time now would be nice."

"I'm trying," the daughter of Pluto forced out, before promptly collapsing.

Piper rushed to catch her, feeling the clammy feverishness of her skin.

The doors were thrown open, and police officers swarmed the room, tasers at the ready, a hand at their hips by their guns.

"Surrender," a woman, who seemed to be the chief, called.

"No," Piper whispered absently, still supporting Hazel's limp form as she searched desperately for a means of escape.

But they really were surrounded, she wasn't sure what they could do to escape. Glancing at Percy and Annabeth's grim expressions, she knew they had reached the same conclusion.

She sighed, turning slowly to face the officers, "Alright, we surrender."

Suddenly, there was a cold hand gripping her arm so hard she felt like she'd lost circulation, and she found herself engulfed in a darkness deeper than the night. A sensation of cold washed over her, distant screams and wails echoing in her ears. Then, as quickly as it came, the sensation vanished, her feet landing with a heavy stomp on solid ground as her knees gave out below her.
