Chapter 7: Bye

The room was engulfed in darkness, the sun rising over the city as everyone began their early morning routines. The brunette rolled on to her stomach, stretching her legs as she moaned quietly and opened her eyes. Staring into the darkness, she seen light beginning to stream through the curtains. Looking over, she seen Damon in a deep sleep and smiled softly. Pushing herself up, she took a deep breath and stretched as she got up from the bed and tip-toed to the bathroom. Looking into the mirror, she tied her hair into a messy bun and ran the taps as she began brushing her teeth. Hearing her phone, she quickly rinsed her mouth out and ran into the room, grabbing her phone as she answered it.

"Hello?" Elena whispered.
"Hey honey." Miranda called down the phone.
"Mom," She smiled softly, stepping into the living room, "Are you okay?"
"I just wanted to check on my daughter."
"Momma..."
"I know you're growing up, but you're still young and you're my little girl."
"I've been fine, I promise."

Smiling, she walked around, pulling open the curtains as she light began flooding in. Going into the kitchen, she looked through the fridge and bit her lip. She could make Damon some poached eggs, maybe pancakes or even waffles? What would he like? Maybe waffles with strawberries and a glass of juice.

"Honey, is there anything you wanna tell me?" Miranda questioned.
"What do you mean?" Elena replied, trying not to sound nervous.
"Elena, I know when you're hiding something."
"Mom, I-"
"Someone's at the door, I have to go. I will talk to you later, alright?"
"Bye mom, I love you."

The line went dead as Elena bit her lip and put the phone down on the counter. She was going to have to tell her mom sometime, but not anytime soon. Would she be able to make homemade waffles? Hmm, tricky business. Walking into the living room, she lifted the phone off the wall, calling down to reception.

"Hello, may I have room service please? Waffles please? Thank you."

Hanging up, she smiled. She would be able to handle the rest. Going back into the kitchen, she got the strawberries out of the fridge and began slicing them as she poured a glass of orange juice. Chewing her lip, she walked back into the living room and fell onto the couch as she stretched. Just waiting for the room service and then she could give Damon a morning wake up call. Hearing a knock, she looked up and raised an eyebrow. Well, that was surprisingly quick. Getting up, she moved over to the door and pulled it open, smiling as she seen her standing with a trolley.

"Thank you." Elena lifted her purse off the side, giving her over a tip.

Pulling the trolley inside, she closed the door and took the plate with waffles as she went into the kitchen. Placing the photo down, she covered the waffles in the sliced strawberries and moved the plate onto a tray with the glass of orange juice. Going back into the bedroom, she turned the bedside lamp on and sat on the edge of the bed, placing the tray on the bedside table.

"Damon?" Elena smiled, leaning down as she kissed his shoulder.
"Mmhm?"
"Wake up." She moved up, kissing his shoulder-blade as he moaned sleepily.
"Lena?" He rolled over, looking up at her.
"I made you breakfast." She grinned, tilting her head.
"You made me breakfast?" Damon grinned in surprise.
"Well yeah, I thought I co-"

Elena was cut off as Damon tugged her and rolled her over, so that she was underneath him. Laughing, she stared up at him as he leaned down, kissing her as he tickled her sides lightly, causing her to shuffle and try to get away from him.

"Damon!" She shrieked with laughter.
"Yes miss?" He smiled, his blue eyes dazzling and bright.
"Don't be mean." The brunette pouted.
"Your wish is my command." He leaned down, kissing her as she smiled and kissed him back.

The brunette stared into the mirror as she pulled her hair into a neat ponytail. Brushing herself down, she knelt down by her case as she pressed her hands down on the clothes, creating more room. She was all dressed and ready to go. Putting the last of her things into the chase, she closed it over and zipped it shut. Hearing the bathroom door open, she glanced up to see Damon showered and dressed. His cologne hit her senses as she smiled softly, standing up from the floor.

"Everything is packed I take it?" Damon smiled, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I'm ready to go...tonight." She replied, smiling softly.
"Hmm, you feel like going put? I got the day planned."
"What about-"
"I got it covered, don't worry so much." He kissed her head, lifting her case from the floor.
"I believe you." Smiling, she followed him out in the corridor as he pulled the door over behind them.

Looking around the corridor, she took a deep breath and watched as Damon made his way down and to the elevator. Taking a step, she watched Damon as she chewed her lip. She was going to miss him when she left tonight. Hopefully he wouldn't be here in New York much long. Walking after him, she got into the elevator and watched as he hit the button for the underground car park. Biting her lip, she leaned up and kissed his cheek.

"I'm glad that I came." Elena smiled up at him.
"Me too, it was good to see you Lena."
"When will you be back in L.A?" She bit her lip, tilting her head.
"A week at most, not too long."
"Were odd, aren't we?" The brunette inhaled.
"How do you mean?" He reached out, taking her hand as he stroked his thumb along her knuckles.
"Us as a couple." She laced her fingers with his.
"Odd is one word for it."

The elevator's doors opened as they stepped out and seen Damon's bodyguard standing and waiting by the car. The opened the door for them and took Elena's suitcase, placing it into the trunk. Damon helped Elena into the car as he got in after her and pulled the door shut.

"Where's Alaric? I haven't seen him around."
"He's found a girl to occupy his time it seems."
"Really?" She gasped with a grin.
"Yeah, seems me and him are being tricked by women."
"Oi!" She gave him a look, flicking him.
"You know I'm kidding." Damon laughed, kissing her head.

The car pulled out of the car park, going up the ramp as paparazzi took pictures, trying to see who was in the car,/ Elena leaned into Damon as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, squeezing her gently. Smiling, she looked up at him and raised an eyebrow.

"Where are we going?"
"Sightseeing."

The view was beautiful, it was like the world was at your feet. The brunette was full of excitement as she looked around. They had the top of the Empire State Building to themselves, which game them some privacy and time alone. Closing her eyes, the brunette smiled as she felt the breeze against her face.

"Some view huh?" Damon smiled, circling his arms around her waist from behind.
"It's beautiful. No wonder why people own penthouses. It has to be for the view, no doubt."
"Mmhm, that's why I have one."
"I've never been around yours, we always stay at hotels." She turned to look at him.
"I didn't know how serious we were."
"So, do you know now?" Elena bit her lip.
"I'm starting to get a better knowledge." He smiled, kissing her cheek, "I wanted to give you something."

Reaching into his back pocket, he pulled out a square velvet box and opened it, showing a necklace with the letters DxE. Wide-eyed, she smiled and bit her lip as she held her hand to her chest and tilted her head. Biting his lip, he dangled it on his finger taking a deep breath.

"Yeah, this is REALLY not me, but I know things are difficult at the moment with our relationship, were keeping it on the low, a secret. But I had this made as annoying CHEESY as it is. I want you to wear it and remember that were in a relationship, especially at moments when it won't feel like it. When were in public, I know were going to be different and if you don't want too, I understand."

Grinning, she leaned up and pressed her lips against his as he closed his eyes in response, inhaling as she pulled back and slowly took the necklace, clipping it around her neck. She looked up at him as he slowly opened his eyes, smiling himself.

"I love it, thank you. It's sweet." He took her hand, kissing her knuckles.
"My pleasure."

The brunette looked around the VIP lounge in the airport that Damon had brought her into as he checked in her details. Biting her lip, she took a deep breath as she looked out the window at the plane that was waiting to take her back to L.A. It would be okay, it was only for a while and then she would see him again. Licking her lips, she looked up as Damon walked over, smiling softly.

"Everything is ready for you to go." Damon told her, cupping her face in his hands.
"Damon, thank you for this."
"No, thank you. Without you, I'd be suffering from work stress."
"Anytime." She smiled slightly, staring up at him as he leaned down, kissing her forehead.
"Will you call me when you land?" He raised an eyebrow.
"I promise."

Leaning up, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him as he placed his hands on her lower back and lifted her against him, holding her close. Grinning, she leaned her forehead against his as he slowly placed her back down and tucked the loose curl hanging behind her ear. Sighing in content, she kissed the corner of his lips.

"Bye Damon." Walking to the exit door that was held open for her, she waved to him as he smiled.
"Bye."
